Anyone come across any fixes for the fact that (a) there is no LED indicator telling you that you have a message; and (b) there is no pointer/curser/trackball?
I tried NOLED app from the market, but thought it was useless.
NOLED is probably the only "fix" you are going to find for notifications. Android is a touch screen OS, why on earth would you need a pointer?
The trackball on the N1, for instance, is super helpful when typing.

So you didn't notice your phone didn't have a pointing device when you bought it?

Haha maybe he thought it it had some weird gesture area like the crappy Pre or something.

ON topic, mate a lot of keyboard apps for android include a d-pad option which will let you accurately simulate a cursor/trackball.
No LED notifications is a bummer. Strange how people with iphones are not annoyed by that! Something like sms popup can be set to periodically vibrate to remind you etc. No real solution there Im afraid!
There was some dev work on getting the backlight touch buttons to blink but work seems to have hit a dead end.
Ozy: thanks for the helpful reply!!

No worries. For now, look for updates to these two links (I appreciate youve already tried NOLED but it can only get better )

Thanks! It's weird. I can't get NOLED to work on the Captivate. In any event, the backlight option is brilliant!

Meh. I was always irritated by the notification LED on my MT3G. I love that my Vibrant doesn't have any blinkenlites.

There is a dpad on the Samsung and swype keyboards. Hole the 123 key on S. And drag between the two bottom left keys in swype.

This second link is exactly what ive been looking,
I think the LEDs at the bottom would make perfect notification lights,
Is there any more news on this?

Heh, its the ideal solution, except theres not really a solution at the moment. Drivers have now been made public (or so Im led to believe). so Im hoping to see it come along side Cyanogen Mod.
Theres an online petiotion that can be signed regarding some dev work for this. At the moment, theres like 350+ signatories....now if everyone chipped in $5 ......
for the D-pad just slide from the "S" sybmbol in the lowwer left of the keyboard to the "sym" key directly next to it (using swype, not the samsung keyboard). a directional pad pops up and it has backspace, backspace by full word, delete, cut, copy, paste, select all, page up, page down, home and end, and a "tab" key, though i don't know if it works like tab of if it is just a large space for starting paragraphs.
samsungs keyboard also has something similar if you hold the key to the numbers/symbols for three seconds.

Wow. Thanks! Dolphin HD, LiveJournal, and text entry don't get along so well for some reason; it never puts the cursor where I tap when I want to go back and edit text. So I'm extremely happy to hear there are arrows on the Swype keyboard! The trackpad and GPS were the only two things I was still missing from my Aria, and you just remedied the former.
Though now I feel silly for not figuring it out myself!
Too be honest I only knew about it from a review I read but they didn't explain how to do it, after a few days of messing with it I found it in the swype tutorials

I don't know what I did, but now, every time I get a text my phone says "So-and-so sent you a text, say "listen" to read aloud". How the heck do I disable this? It's driving me crazy because interrupts my music and I don't need it - this is what text notifications are for.

There's a bug in Moto Assist that enables driving mode sometimes while not driving. If you don't use it while driving, you'd be better off just disabling the driving assist module altogether.
Funny, I can't get mine to read texts and I have it enabled.

Same, so I just disabled all the active stuff on the phone.
It would say "text fro" and cut off, never saying who. I'd say Listen and the device would recognize it, then it wouldn't actually play the msg out loud.

1. Open the Moto Assist app
2. Click the card for "Driving", it expands the card to show you two checkbox options
3. Uncheck "talk to me" to disable completely. Or click the gray arrow next to the text to open more settings for talk-back.
I love that you can open apps using the "OK Google" feature but the one I probably want to do this with most is Waze while I am driving. I just can't get the right wording to get it to open.
Showing how I pronounce it and what I get
Wayss - Way's
WayZee - Way Z
Wazeee - Waze z
Waaaass - whats
Any suggestions.
Try "open app waze." That works for me.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I can't find where I saw this, but I read of someone using a program that made shortcuts and such into actual custom apps. They gave that a unique name, and opening that "app" was ultimately just a redirect into opening Waze.
I know that's very little to go on, but this is XDA, someone else might be able to fill in the blanks

Is there a possibility of stopping Moto Voice to say "opening google.." every time it passes the command to ggl search?
It didn't do that before i updated moto voice. And is really annoying
sent from XT1092 using Tapatalk
It is. I'm also finding out that the "what's up?" command is very hit or miss. Sometimes it reads my notifications and others it just looks up "what's up" in Google.
I am also looking for the answer for shutting down "opening google"...can someone tell us how, please! Thanks!
This is from the update right? Id uninstall the updates. Revert back to the old version
But the old version is really bugy and missing many commands like "good morning" "talk to me" "good night" etc.
All in all the update is very good! Only "opening google.." disturbs me

The command is supposed to be "what's new?" I think. The video tutorial says what's up, but the command list says what's new.

I think it depends on your system language.
For me in English(US) it is "what's up?" and in German it is "Was gibt's Neues?"
So i would say "What's new?" Is for English(UK) may be..

None of those commands work for me. Good morning, good night, talk to me, they all just come back with opening Google followed by a Google search result in those words.
Hating that opening Google part.

Well, Google is grabbing just about everything that Motorola developed and adding it into lollipop.

Gotta take advantage of all that intellectual property while you still can.
I get it and they probably developed it all while owning Motorola, but it will likely unlock "me" to buying outside of Motorola again if they can simulate active notifications, assist, and voice well enough. First time I've bought the same manufacturer back to back in the past four years and 8-10 phones.

Google keeps the intellectual property. That's all they wanted with the purchase, and they aren't giving it up with the sale.

I bought this for the voice command instead of my beautifull Nexus 5. I paied 499€ to have a nexus 5.2 with wood back? No thank's.
Opening google !!!
Yeah, this last update to Voice addressed the latency issues, but created a whole new set of problems as "set alarm" now just gets passed to Google instead of actually setting the alarm. If I have to actually click "Set Alarm" on the resulting Google search page, it kind of defeats the point of having it be a voice command. I'm hoping that their "solution" for the high latency of the original version wasn't simply punting and handing everything over to Google.
Motorola needs to get a third rev of this out, hopefully without regression bugs. And from their forums, it looks like they're on the case.

According to a bunch of android tech blogs, it seems the issue with setting alarms and timers is with Google's search update. Though, it would be nice if moto voice could set alarms and timers went without Google now's help.
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/10/google-search-experiencing-timer-alarm-setting-problems.html
I used to gave problems with "good morning" & "Good night" but figured out the trick recently
Do not give a break between good and morning/night. Say it in one word like goodmorning or goodnight and it works everytime(atleast for me)
and for time being, we can avoid the opening google sound by creating a tasker profile which will set the media volume to 0 for 2 seconds whenever google search is opening
Can somebody please tell me if there is a way to have my Moto X (2014) vibrate or play a sound to notify me of a text message while I am in a call. I can't for the life of me figure this out. I am using the Messenger app from Google and the default phone dialer. Many times I get messages while I am in a call, but there is no audible or vibrating notification that I have one so I never know about it. Is this even possible?
Thanks in advance.
I don't get them either. I would like to know how to be notified.

Where did you find that menu? I've searched everywhere but all I can find is stuff about Do Not Disturb. I'm on stock 6.0 and I have the same problem. It drives me nuts! I'm even more annoyed how the stock messaging app doesn't give notification sounds while the app is open, so while I'm typing in landscape mode I have no idea if the person I'm typing to has said something new which could make what I'm typing completely irrelevant.
