I use gmail and ChompSMS, since we are all about debloating the system, is it possible to disable the stock apps for email and text or do 3rd party apps use them as a source?
You can "turn off" messaging from settings-application manager-all apps
But not email. Given root is not achieved on this device.

Is there a way i could put the vanilla messaging app on here not the samsung messaging app?? I'm rooted and i was just wondering if i can get the default mesaging app instead of samsung because i like the default better
Have you tried handcent? Its pretty cool once you get it all set up the way you like it. Look for it in the market

I've tried that already... I like it but i dont like how you get 2 notifications...How do u cut off the notification for the original message app??
In the setting of the Messaging app hot menu then click setting scroll down to the notifications section. Uncheck the checkbox that says Notifications. I did it when I tried Handcent.

How do I make Handcent the default messaging app again? Auto retrieve is unchecked in Serendipity native messaging, but it is still receiving messages. Thanks.

...sigh... Did you turn off the notifications on the native app also?
Notifications are off. Not getting double notifications. Just seems very inefficient to have messages loaded by both apps. Gotta be a way to shut down native app without messing around with scripts.

If you have the paid version of titanium backup, you can select the native messaging app and freeze it and see if your messaging still works, if it does still work, use root explorer and make a copy of the native app, save it to the sd card and delete the original. Just throwing out trial and error options, so I'm not responsible if it doesn't work lol. If deleting the native messaging apk caused fc's, just copy and paste the original and you should be back to where you started though.

Do you mean that the preinstalled messenger is the default SMS application?
Have you gone to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All Tab -> Messenger -> Clear defaults?
Yes. Cleared messages and handcent cache. Next message comes in...choose handcent ad default. Go to messages app and same message is there. Not a biggie, but seems inefficient. Thanks

I'm fairly certain that SMS are stored somewhere different and the apps just access that single location; you don't have the same message in multiple locations. If you downloaded a third messenger app later, you should be able to access all the previous conversations as well.
Ok. That makes me feel better then, lol. Thanks

Well, i have the stock messaging app, and using TW launcher 4.. so its literally stuck on the home screen. That being said, ive decided to use that app because i like the TW launcher. My problem is, because that app doesnt have the popup notification, i downloaded SMS popup, and now whenever i reply to an sms using SMS popup, it doesnt mark the message as read. And it also shows a little blip with (#) of unread messages right there on the home screen.
How can i fix this?
Thanks
probably something the app maker needs to fix. I would email them. I use go sms right now and when I read it through the pop ups it kills the notification.

lol, the app maker is samsung i dont see them fixing it anytime soon. I would use go SMS but i like the stock tw launcher... And i dont think its possible to replace the message icon (already in the launcher) with go sms. If this is possible, please let me know.
Thanks
I think for sms popup you have to disable notifications on the stock app and then use it...

Sorry, u do disable it in the stock sms app. I knew 5 minutes after I typed but I had a busy day and never got back to relieve myself of the stupidity I typed.

SMS Popup does not have any options to disable stock messaging app notifications.

That's only half of it. That only takes out the notification in the notification bar and the ringtone/vibration. In the TW4 launcher, the messaging app gets a little blip, like IOS about unread message. That is what i want to erase. I set the notification on the stock messaging app completely off, but that blip still comes here .
Its literally a circle with the number of unread messages in it at the top right side of the application shortcut. ie. (2)
So I'm trying out blocking mode (picked up the S5 on an extra line I'm not using to try it out). I have notifications, calls, alarms all set to be blocked. The time is checked as "always", but I'm still receiving emails, as well as when I text from another phone, it comes right on through. The allowed contacts is "none". Anyone else tried this? Did I miss a setting?

Ah ha. I get it. Thanks. I guess I was assuming like an "airplane mode that allows wifi" lol

Switch to hangouts as your default SMS service in your settings. The messaging app is what wakes your phone. If you use hangouts it won't wake your screen.
