Can't flash stock ROM, phone show only S/W Upgrade - LG Optimus 4X HD

A month ago I've upgraded to V20B using KDZ with this excellent tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723, and everything worked fine till yesterday, when suddenly all mobile connectivity lost, as if there was no sim card installed.
I tried various solutions from the web before flashing my phone to CM-10.1.3-p880, which was great for me, but alas, still no mobile networks and data. I then tried to flash back to Stock ROM, again using KDZ update, and I don't know what went wrong, the outcome was that now the device shows only "S/W Upgrade" screen and no more. I tried to flash several times using also Lg Flash tool, but every time it fails after 10% of the download process. I also tried everything on a different computer.
Plz help..
Thanx

You can try recover your phone with LGMobile support tool, without kdz flashing. In LG program in options you have entry update recovery, click it and follow instruction. I hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply.
It didn't fix it either.
Failed at 10% of the upgrading proccess.

i've seen like 3-4 people in the past month on the forum have this same problem (its like imei gets wiped), and all have issues reflashing. quite strange indeed. i don't have any tips for you other than to try reflashing via kdz flasher/another tool again and hope for the best

Try on another computer, this might helps. Do it on PC not on laptop on rear usb port.

Happened to me something similar today, but with the difference that I still have my IMEI and that I still can surf the web using 3G. Also my baseband version shows LGP880AT-00-V20a-234-XXX-MAR-26-2013 and right now I'm on latest CM11.
My problem is that I can't make calls, when I try to do so, I get "Mobile network not available". Also people can't call me and I can't send or receive SMS (haven't tried MMS btw).
I've also gone under "Settings -> Mobile networks -> Network Operators" and when I choose my network operator or select "Choose Automatically" I get "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later".
Strange enough, in the quicksettings tiles I can see my network operator's name and the bars are full.
I was on Vanir 4.4.2 when this first happened. I have flashed already a few ROMs (like cm10.1.3, Zaiben, CM11) trying to solve this problem and all of this happens in all of them (clean flashed every single one of them). Also tried to restore with CWM some nandroid backups that were working previously and all of them are giving me this same error.
In "About phone -> Status"
I do have a signal strenght, which makes me think the antennas and the sim card are working correctly
Mobile network type: UMTS (I'm in Portugal)
Service state
Voice: Out of service (I believe the problem is somewhere hidden here)
Data: In service
Mobile network state: disconnected (this seems weird to me too, regarding the fact that I have data connection)
And like I said before, my IMEI and all the rest are correct.
I haven't tried flashing a KDZ due to all these reports of "soft bricking" their devices.... Don't know what to do... Any ideas?
Don't know If I shall provide a logcat or a dmesg... If so, when shall I take it?
Thanks in advance and sorry for crashing this thread...

what you described seems like ril crash issue, and ril doesn't connect you to network properly after that. the link in my sig may help you
edit:
just re-read your post, you are 100% sure it also happened on stock-based rom (zaiben)? if so, it may be that something different is wrong. try toggling airplane mode on and off when your issue happens and tell me what happens then

Optimus 2x No Network

Hi.
I recently purchased a used Optimus 2x with a cracked screen.
The first thing I did, was to start it up with my sim card, to see if the phone was operator locked.
When I turned the phone on, it started up just fine and I entered my pin number just fine, but after that I didn't get any network on the phone.
There were only greyed out bars on top of the screen, with a red " x " next to it and next to that, there was a picture of a sim card with a red " ! " mark on it and also on the "drag down menu" there was a message saying "No network".
I tried reseting the phone to factory settings but that didn't help.
I think the phone is originally from another country, because after I started the phone after reseting it, the language was changed to spanish.
If anyone could help me figure out what the problem with this phone is, I would really apreciate it.
No network is odd, try flashing a different baseband, then root it, install rom manager and start fresh with a new operating system.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there a tutorial on how to flash a different baseband? Is there a certain baseband version I should get, or can I just install any baseband version?

Thanks shpapy.
I managed to flash a new stock rom, but unfortunately the "No network" problem still persists.
However. When I looked at the back of the phone, I saw that the water indicator had turned red, so I assume that it has been water damaged.
Could this be causing the No network problem?
Or could the phone possibly be barred?

if you paid by credit card get a refund through them, or if ebay dispute the purchase and send PayPal images of the water sensor. Its screwed if it got wet.

Is there some way of fixing it?
I've got a rework station and could possibly replace the broken component if I knew which one to replace.
I've reballed a few xboxes before and normally I just work on gaming consoles.
But I bought this phone to give to my brother for christmas. The guy in the advertisement only said that the screen on the phone was cracked, but otherwise worked ok, so I figured it was an easy fix.
But now the f****r won't answer the phone anymore, so I guess he's long gone.
I paid in cash, so theres no chance for a refund.
I'll dissassemble the phone tomorrow and rinse the pcb with isopropyl, but this isn't really necessary as the component that is causing the issue is broken anyway right? But still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a little rinse.
Just flash a new baseband+ ril i recommend starting with .218 bb+ ril and work up from there. Also use CM7 as a rom. I had the same problem your describing when i flashed the wrong baseband on mine. And if all else fails nvflash usually works in the end.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Well I think I bricked the phone.
I flashed the 0405 baseband and 0405 ril and after that, the phone didn't even ask for a pin number anymore and also the Imei number was deleted in the proccess
Guess I should have read more about how to flash the phone properly before I started flashing.
Ah well. S**t happends, lol.
By the way if there is a way to fix this phone, I would gladly pay someone to fix it for me.
Just send me a pm if it's fixable and we'll work something out.
You ticked 'erase cp' didn't you?
Luckily you can write your IMEI back though.
Heh, use nvflash, then flash new baseband. I use .725 myself after flashing baseband > root> install cwm> flash rom.
@rusty i did that wrong once

Hehe. To be honest, I'm not even sure I flashed the ril file the correct way.
I placed the RIL zip file on the internal sd card and booted the phone into bootloader "the thing that was installed after I rooted it with nvflash", and installed the ril file from there.
I chose install zip from internal sd and chose the ril file and after that, no more Imei, lol.
But, like I said earlier, I'll gladly pay someone if they could have this phone fixed for me.
I really wanted to give this phone to my brother and it'ss really a shame it won't work, because I've already ordered a new replacement screen and everything.
My brother's really into android phones and I know he's been drooling about this phone and the samsung galaxy s2, so I really wanted to suprise him with this phone.
If anyone believe that they could fix this phone and get it up and working, please send just send me a pm.
Nvflash = flashing rom from low lvl, last resort, so no basebands etc.
There is tons of documentation on this, read it. It will actually make it simple to do and understand its in the development section: nvflash, smartflash(bb), getril, roms.. etc
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Yes! I managed to fix it.
I flashed a stock rom back to the phone, using Smartflash and that fixed it.
When I turned the phone on, the Imei was back and I could make and receive phone calls.
The Rom file I used to flash the phone with was: BIN_LGP990AT-00-V10b-NEU-XXX-APR-05-2011+0
Thanks to everyone that halped
However, now I've got a different problem. I disassembled the phone and while disassemling it, I managed to snap the "antenna/ coax" cable that runs between the main Pcb down to where the microphone is located.
I tried searchin on ebay for a replacement cable, but couldn't find anything. Maybe I didn't search for the correct part.
Does anyone have one of these cables that they'd be willing to sell, or does anyone know where I might buy one?

[GUIDE] How to Install Ice Cream Sandwich on your Rogers P925 (Or fix baseband issue)

Well, after a TON of work, and unsuccessful attempts at getting this, I finally was able to get signal and working data on my phone. I know some people had had trouble with the process, so I'm going to post my guide here to help you all out.
There are two parts to this tutorial. Only one is needed, however, to get ICS to properly work, so find the one that fits your current predicament AND ONLY USE THAT PART OF THE TUTORIAL.
If this is your first time installing the ICS rom...
Follow the LG flashing tool guide that XBSall has linked in his ICS Rom post. You can also find it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490 . However, when you install the ROM, DO NOT USE THE .FLS FILE HE PROVIDES. Instead, download the v18A baseband and install that one with the .BIN file he provides. You can find the v18A baseband here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338383 I believe. After you flash the entire thing, you should have ICS! Easy!
If you have the ICS Rom installed now, but have no signal...
This is a bit more complicated, but still very easy. After I flashed ICS, I was not able to flash things using LGFlashTool like I could in GB. This is how I ended up flashing the baseband to fix my issues.
We need to set up your phone to connect with LGFlashTool first. To do this, use XBSall's restore to GB method, located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942836 . You will need the OMAP4BOOT files, but you will need nothing else.
Follow his tutorial up until step 6. When he tells you to insert the battery, insert it AS FAST as you can. I messed up on the timing the first few times. Once I saw a greyscale LG logo, and a few other times it just booted normally. Just try again if this happens. Eventually you will get the screenshot in step 9. DO NOT remove the cable when OMAP4BOOT tells you to, as well.
Follow step 10 and 11 of XBSalls restore tutorial, and then follow step 12. When you set up LGFlashTool for the reflashing, simply select the v18A baseband to flash and then start the process. If done correctly, Port 1 should state READY. Repeat steps 3-9 in his tutorial. It will start the flashing process. Once you get an error, close the program, and remove your phones battery and disconnect it from your computer.
Turn on your phone, and receive signal. PROFIT.
Hope this helps you guys out a bit, and remember to hit thanks if this helped you.
you beat me to it lol I was just about to post steps just like this

Baseband Version: XMM6260
Software Version: LGSU760-V30b-OCT-18-2012
Can anyone help? The guide dosent show you how to install the OMAP4430 drivers, but i found out myself how to do it so whatever. Problem is, now "OMAP4430 USB Device" is dissappearing and reappearing over and over again when i boot with volume up. Can anyone shed some light as to how to fix this?
And my phone isnt bricked, i can turn it on right now and everything.
EDIT: Found the problem, you need to hold VolUp after OMAP4430 pops up. Funny, it says in the guide to let go when it pops up. Fixed my mistake though.

Hello everyone,
I'm currently trying to get ICS installer on my rogers P925. I tried many times on two computers (both windows 7 one is 32bits other is 62bits) to flash the bin and fls files you are recommanding but it seems like even if my OMAP 4430 device driver is correctly installed via the program files texas instuments dll it seems it wont stay connected at all and just pop open and closed sometimes when it seems to want, and it makes the flashing procedure impossible to me any ideas?

Now, I can't get it to boot in fastboot even using OMAP4boot I don't really understand when I need to insert fast the battery... OMAP4boot doesn't seem to get my phone...
You will always get errors as these are not full kdz files. If you are stuck at lg logo..try pull batt replace then hold vol- and power button til you see a factory reset screen do reset and boot..that made mine boot.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough, but my phone boots now, it's only I had to flash it with the O3D fls file and not the .fls I was supposed to use so I get a working ICS without any network.
Now that i'm trying to complete step 2 to get te right baseband, i can't get the phone to boot in download mode even using OMAP fasboot flash. the software just don't say anything appart from "waiting for phone".
So I was wondering if I was doing anything wrong

it's almost the 10th time I follow the guide step by step by step... I think or i'm always doing wrong something or it's something else with my phone... I may have misconfigured one port but i do NEVER NEVER at all in the process see OMAP4430 device in my device manager.. so the little windows tool is not doing anything... maybe if someone wanna teamviewer they can see for themselves what it gives.
Wahoo, ICS + network
finally found that there was the correct driver for my computer in the omap4boot folder and not in everyother one I was installing, flashed with the guide after i found this driver and everything works fine
only thing i'm struggling is to set apns to get 3G any tricks?
Do a Google search for AT&T 4G APN (or whoever our carrier is). You can also create an APN with the word "phone" in the first two blanks, name and APN (I think), and it should give you access to 3G and HSPA. I hit 6.7mbps on Speed Test.

[Q] Big problem!

Okay so I was using EPRJ CM10.1 rom with kholk's 3.4 kernel. It was all good until yesterday, when suddenly mobile data stopped working totally (I did not try anything funny btw). Usually a reboot does the trick, but this time, the problem persisted through numerous reboots and it never recovered. So I decided to do a factory reset, no change. Do a reflash of kernel, no change. Do a reflash of ROM, no change. At the setup wizard after I keyed in my google account, it showed
"Couldn't sign in
Can't establish a reliable connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care." no matter with mobile data or wifi.
I have tried flashing other ROMs and kernels but this problem persisted. I'm afraid I might need to follow their instructions and call customer care.. Does anyone have a possible solution? I tried flashing firmware, but it just won't flash as the application hangs after 'launch software upgrade' is clicked.

Every Linux system (which the android is based on) has a kernel ,, every kernel has its own modules (A loadable parts that is loaded every reboot ,, located in /system/lib/modules ,, with extend of *.ko) .
One of these modules is the WiFi module . and this MUST be compatible with the kernel . So your problem is related with that module .
You can try flash a custom ROM ,, Then the kernel .
Because the ROM.zip contains the modules while the kernel.zip contains the kernel with its modules . the kernel.zip will replace your current modules with its own modules .
Or you can simply reflash your phone

Flashed in all sequence possible, still same problem. One thing is, when I bypassed the setup, wifi was able to work to connect to the internet, but mobile data still doesn't work.

Like I've stated I'm unable to flash firmware. The program stops responding after unpacking KDZ. Tried reinstalling everything, drivers and all but no change.

Try LGFlash Tool (I'm getting tired of repeat myself...).
But the .kdz flash program can stop for several reasons not related with the phone.
Read the tutorial again, maybe you miss some step. Happends sometimes...
All of that I did

For me, LG flash tool doesn't have action mode, so I can't use it. I've already memorized the procedures... googolchecked the tutorials... nothing was missed. It's really weird.

Listen, if you can't make LGFlash Tool works, it will be a little hard to rollback...
Sometimes the tool don't work because something is missing on the computer. Last issue that I know was because
the user didn't have Visual C++ installed... (at least that was reported...).
I don't know if its really needed cause I have it because of Nero Burning... but, having LG PC Suite installed should be
enough.
You tried other computer?
Or you can try LG PC Suite in "mergency & recovery" mode, if it stops before finish the process, start "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" and
flash with .kdz ( I made it once like that...).
Good luck on that.

I tried it on another machine and flashing KDZ worked. Then a factory reset did the trick. Thanks for your suggestion!

[Q] SIM stopped working in my LG Optimus 4X HD

I'm new to this.
A totally random event. I restarted my phone one evening last week and it show no sim. Using the LG support tool I had multiple failed attempts to update the software. Then as sudden a the sim registration had disappeared it came back to life. All fine until again the phone just stopped registering the sim.
Phone is secondhand. And I have tried numerous times removing, cleaning and replacing the SIM. Tried another active SIM on the same network with no luck.
I've never had a 'bricked' phone so don't know what to expect but I imagine the phone wouldn't even boot up!
I have now rooted the phone and installed CWM recovery, still no joy and have in desperation performed a hard reset. Nada!
Software is V10h. I read something about EFS folder to backup but all I could find is a text file. The IMEI is not registering on the phone. It could be a very simple answer but currently I'm stumped. I have requested a replacement SIM but have little hope this will resolve the issue.
I hope someone has an answer...

re-flash 10h or 20a kdz. look for various tutorials on the forum. (btw, your phone isnt registring on network cuz your imei isnt being read, probably due to failed upgrade process
(or some other bug). it should be fixable though)
also, replacement sim wont help. its your cell phone that's faulty, either hardware or software, not the SIM itself
also, i'm not sure how it goes if your IMEI is blacklisted by your cell phone company - is it possible the phone was stolen? perhaps the original owner reported it stolen to his carrier and they blocked the IMEI?

If the IMEI is blacklisted, the phone will still show it correctly in the settings and the carrier will just block based on this. This is why changing an IMEI is illegal in most countries and why discussions on how to change it aren't allowed on XDA as it can get the site in serious trouble.

check if ur gapps are fine. reinstall all gapps. maybe u deleted some app that u shouldnt. happened to me too 2 weeks ago and i had no sim so signal , i couldnt see my imei, etc. if that doesnt help , then reinstall ur rom or install a custom one. I mean maybe u must be sure to check if u deleted some system app that u shouldnt. Since u have double checked with other sim , if its not from an app , then the above thread is right, the owner could have reported the phone stolen

Okay, strange happenings with this phone. I've not hd the opportunity to re-flash as suggested but by the by I put my SIM back in and it worked fine. IMEI registered in the phone settings and all was as it should be. Until again first the signal disappeared and when I restarted the SIM did not register. Has anyone experienced this before?

There have been some problems with this, but normally due the the RIL on CyanogenMod-based ROMs. I would suggest that you find the time to either reflash v10h or upgrade to v20A/B/C (as appropriate for your region) and see if that fixes it for you.
you still havent mentioned anything about gapps. this means you checked and you are sure that they are fine ??
So I have tried flashing software V20A using the LG software updater and now all I get is the phone booting into 'S/W Upgrade please wait while upgrading'
I can get into any other screen, despite pressing all combination of buttons together.
I have attempted reflashing back to V10H and try and get it back to how I had the phone. No luck there
And also tried again with V20A. No joy.
Is there anything else I could try?

Yes, Follow the instructions to flash a v20x KDZ EXACTLY and look at your drivers.

Which version of instructions is definitive? I've tried multiple methods with battery in and out. Are you referring to the LG drivers?
Thanks for responding.

I have always found this thread [TUTORIAL]Update firmware through flashing the kdz files( With Picture )Step by Step works perfectly every time.
Got the same problem here, running cm for a month with no probs, restarted phone and sim not recognized. Installed a backup of the original rom and everything ok. Reflashed kdz's and did a fresh install of cm and still no sim. Am now on Zaiben which is ok but takes about 15 mins to recognize sim?

[Q] moto x1058 wifi problems

Hello, I have searched for a solution and found some that worked, My WIFI on my moto x will not connect to any network.
it just started a few weeks ago, But going to in to recovery mode and wiping the cache was working it would connect again.
Thing is it's not only on my home network if i go to any place with WIFI it shows the network, I try to connect and it disappears.
I had the kitkat update I tried to factory reset that did not work also reflashed to jelly bean to see if that would fix the problem. I did not restore any back ups of my device since it could have been a corrupt setting or file that was messing it up. Still no luck I tried some of the router options found on the web about changing the channels. Just to be clear it will not connect to any WIFI not just the one at my house.
I spoke with Fido tech support and after explaining everything i tried they said i was out of options and since I bought the phone right out, I would have to call Motorola and see if they can fix it, thing is i unlocked the bootloader when I rooted it when i first had it with it's stock jelly bean.
I know this is a on going issue for many other moto x, could it just be a hardware issue now my phone has been in a otter box defender since the day i bought it, it has no damage or ever been dropped in water.
it's frustrating, my data works perfect and every thing else on phone works great. I really like the phone but since the bootloader is unlocked the warranty is now void and I only had the phone since dec 2013.
does any one have any last options I could possibly try thanks in advance.

Hi,
I suggest you do a full SBF restore. Don't confuse this with a factory reset....SBFing can actually repair a corrupted filesystem, while a factory reset does not.
You can find a great guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
There are 2 methods. RSD Lite and manual method. Either will work, but pay very close attention to the instructions.
You will find the SBF file for your particular carrier/version here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
Good Luck
P.S. I too was having strange WIFI issues. The SBF back to stock fixed it 100%. Hope it works for you.
no luck

I followed the guide step by step, Still no luck.
shows the wifi connections, saves them and shows that it is connecting and just goes back to saved, or disabled. Sometimes even just disappears took it in to have it looked at and the guys at the fido store had the same issue trying to connect to their network.
They keep saying it is a software issue but i'm starting to think it might be hardware. I even tried some fixes with Root to get access to the persist folder to change a file. Tried booting in safe mode to see if it would connect and just does the same thing, I might just be buying a new device just got one of those unlucky ones thanks again tho.

I would suspect a hardware issue since you have doctored your persist partition, and you have restored the others via SBF. Bummer :/ Maybe someone else will have another suggestion for you.
Good Luck
Thank you
Thank you Very Much
Working again!
I did not give up and it's working again thanks to samwathegreat, I dont mean to bump my old post but I just want to share with other xt 1058 users that may have been having this issue.
I had mentioned before I used some one else's persist files to try and fix mine and thought it was a hardware problem, Well turns out it was not.
I used the files samwathegreat posted in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54089540&postcount=7
I also made a back up of mine, the files in that folder are for a xt 1060 but corrected my problem now I can connect every where again including my house and any other place that offer WIFI.
I was not able to send it to Motorala since I had unlocked the boot loader and warranty was void. All I could do was wait, I even flashed a tmobile 4.4.3 to see if that would fix it with no luck. Any ways just want to say thanks again samwathegreat!!! :good::good:

Congrats bud!!! Don't worry about the files being from an XT1060 - they are the same on all Moto X variants.
Glad to hear it is all sorted out!!! Enjoy.
