Sixaxis/mogu gamepad - Nexus 7 Accessories

Anyone using sixaxis/dualshock ps3 controller, on nexus 7 which are not rooted? I have my 2nd gen and planning to buy sixaxis/ps3 dual shock controller in playing emulated games. Does it work without rooting? Thru bluetooth?
Any input is appreciated.

I think a USB OTG wire and a mini USB cable can help you if you do not have root... But I am using the Sixaxis controller app and a ps3 controller with root. Makes it all easier and wireless. Yeah I believe it uses bluetooth but does not require you to turn it on manually. The app does it for you and it has been a wonderful app especially with the touchscreen mapping.

Best bluetooth game controller without rooting ?

Who's using a bluetooth controller on their stock N7? Any suggestions on a particular brand ? I've got an older gamestop bluetooth controller that I used on my Prime tablet but I'm not sure it will work with Jelly Bean .
It's not out yet, but the Nyko PlayPads are going to be the best.
my post about them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28821776&postcount=16
whole topic about gamepads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751822&page=2
At present I would say the Phonejoy or Datel Retro Wireless controller. Both can be made to be recognised by the system as native devices via Bluez IME and Gamepad Enabler, which means they will work with all the games that work with native controllers, as well as emulators. Won't be able to use touch emulation for games that don't support gamepads natively, that is Root required. If the Nyko ones can do that without Root that makes them pretty attractive, but they aren't out yet so depends on whether you want to wait.
EDIT: Ah, I missed the Tegra-exclusivity on those Nyko ones - likely makes these a waste of time for many (definitely me).

It is designed and compatable with all Tegra3 games but it does NOT require the tegra.
It's requirements are only any android device running 3.0+ and bluetooth. It does NOT require the Tegra3 but it is built and designed to instantly work with Tegra3 games, other games and other hardware may require manual setup (you can also download setups through their app)

I read those posts but thanks for trying to enlighten me anyways. I've tested the steel series ion at a convention last week ... just too darn small for me. I'm hoping there's a good controller available now that is confortable like the six axis but requires no rooting ...

if your looking for something big than the playpad pro may be good for you. same specs and abilities as the smaller one but on a larger scale. http://nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=PlayPad+Pro
Thats a good controller for sure... but it will not be available until the FALL .- I need something now.
dude i hear ya. i've wanted something like that for my transformer for a long time.
i do want something now too, but i rather just deal with touch or wait until that comes out instead of spending my money now and later.
OnLive Universal Controller
Does that controller have lag still ? I've tried it before on my other tablet and the lag was horrendous....:crying:
Have you tried PS3 controllers?
I have always used PS3 controllers for my android tablets. I just purchased a chinese knock off bluetooth PS3 controller on eBay for under 18 bucks with shipping.

Does the ps3 controller work for the nexus 7?
yeah you just need the sixaxxis app from the play store to sync it up
I use sixaxis as well. I have heard great things about phonejoy as well.

PS3 controllers will work via USB OTG as well as wirelessly via Sixaxis controller. Wired use does not require Root, but is more limited (lacks touch emulation available via Sixaxis).
I have two iControlPads and they work great! I can connect both at once and get some SNES Street Fighter 2 Turbo action. Small enough to be really portable and can also be used to charge the tablet if need be. Battery lasts forever! Kind if expensive with shipping but worth it.

Let's Talk Game Controllers

Alright. I'm looking for a good deal on a controller. For the most part I enjoy on screen controls, but I find it very difficult with emulators. It's almost impossible to play Super Mario World or Tecmo Bowl with on screen controls.
So these are my questions:
1. Do I need to be rooted no matter what? If so, no problem. I'll do it.
2. Is the PS3 controller the only way to go or are there cheaper options?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Moga bluetooth controller. Certainly not the cheapest but it works well. Its also one of the only controllers made that gets official game dev support.
Thanks. That looks pretty good. Looks like I can get it for about $30 on ebay.

The Moga is cool but pricey and the software causes input lag.
I haven't used my moga in a few weeks from being busy. Honestly, the PS3 sixaxis controller is the only one that just works.
I also use my 360 controller but that requires a USB wireless dongle on top of the controller price. It works good but I don't like the big wireless dongle.
Each has their advantages. PS3 works the best and the cheapest option. The 360 wireless dongle runs off USB which works if Bluetooth sucks or doesn't have good Bluetooth Sixaxis support. I got my Moga for free during their Christmas promo and glad I didn't pay for it.
I haven't really been able to fully enjoy my moga from their bad software support creating bad lag. The only option is to use the Moga driver app which is 3rd party and doesn't enable the second stick. I tested this on several devices. I would be pissed if I paid $50 for this.
Controller is uncomfortable for long periods and the joysticks suck... they get slippery and hard to keep them extended using your thumb for extended periods (like moving right).
The moga is cool paired with the phone for quick plays but the Sixaxis would be the better buy for a tablet.

I must be looking in the wrong places for a ps3 controller. Everywhere I look they're like $50.

For it to work wirelessly, yes you need to be rooted for the sexaxis app to work correctly. The other option is to connect the controller via the OTG cable to the tablet, and it will work as a normal gamepad.
The PS3 is the best controller I have found to use for it. Just make sure to get a real PS3 controller; the fakes are either rubbish or don't work with SixAxis correctly.

The real ones are that price, true. There are a lot of fake PS3 controllers out there, I've run into a few myself. If you see one for below $40, it's fake. Just go with the real thing from a good retailer or get it directly from a Sony store, as the fakes are getting more and more difficult to spot.
Thanks guys. Yeah, I might consider getting an OTG cable and trying out my XBOX360 controller first, and if that doesn't work out, then I'll dish out some cash for a wired PS3 controller.
I was rooted but I'm really trying to keep it unrooted at this point.
I went the 360 wired route for awhile, but got really tired of the wires. Got the PS3 controller off Amazon Prime for $40 shipped new. Worth it with the Sixasis Controller app. No cables, recognized as a native controller in alot of games, and you can program it for any game. And it is so much nicer to be wireless

Did the XBOX 360 controller work well with game emulators? That's still my biggest concern.

Not on all. Some emulators don't even look for a controller or other input method when they start. The bonus of the Sixasis Controller app is that you can take a screenshot of any game and load that up in the Sixaxis Controller app. You can then map out the entire controller to physical locations on your screen. So when you tap "X" on the controller, it thinks you tapped on the screen wherever you assigned the "X" button.
All you have to do once you make a map is save it with a name, and before you open that game in your emulator, select that map from the Sixaxis app. BOOM, your own controller scheme.
Hurry!
SixAxis DualShock 3
I have the moga gamepad and am not a fan. I was really expecting button presses like the PS3 controller and it's not even close. The moga buttons are super clicky. I like the PS3 controller, but it's not as portable as I'd like. There is another company that's making an android gamepad called evolution controllers that I think I will give a try when there product drops
edit: Just checked evolutions site and they are up for order it guess. $80 bucks though which is completely over priced IMHO
I bought two of these

Alright, so I'm breaking down and getting an official Sony PS3 controller today. Is there a good tutorial that you would recommend on pairing it to the N7? I heard that you have to take screenshots and configure buttons in accordance with them or something like that?
I wish someone would make a case with a d-pad and some buttons integrated. It's like my dream product. *sigh*
I've got a Retrolink NES controller -> USB adapter that works great on Android (used on my Thrive and now on my Nexus 7).
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PDOTXG/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and a Mayflash dual-SNES one that doesn't work on Android:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IXZ5DE/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I recommend the official PS3 controller + rooted + Sixaxis app + some sort of mount.
nyko playpad mini
I own a nyko playpad mini. It's a paperweight.
The software has never been updated and it's completely not working for touch controls.
Basically a lemon.

Does it need to be connect over usb or later it is connect by Bluetooth?
My previous phone was Xperia Play and in some games I miss touchpads and separate buttons.
Thanks

You can do it using your PC and a ps3 controller usb cable (a bit hard to set up bluetooth adresses and you need to have the app) or you can just buy for a few dollars an OTG cable like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-OTG-Connect-Kit-Adapter-Converter-USB-Female-Cable-For-Samsung-Phones-Black-/130798950371?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1e743997e3
and pair the controller to your device!

Thanks for reply but I rather looking for more information what controller actually do. I connected Wii remote and can use in emulators when map keys but no luck when using games like NOVA 3, MC 4 etc.
I wonder if it done by Sony so maybe it will be recognise by those games and allow me play without touch the screen.
I have Usb OTG adapter but as I said I don't have PS3 pad and thinking to buy one but wonder if is it worth to do that.
PS3 cost around £30 for that money I can buy something like that: http://www.mogaanywhere.com/

[Q] Moto X OTG controller support

Hey everyone,
I got my Moto X last week and so far i love it but i can't seem to get OTG to work. I bought a cheap OTG cable from amazon and i'm trying to use my PS3 controller with this phone. The PS3 controller does light up for a second but the phone never seems to see any inputs from the controller. My Nexus 7 running (rooted) 4.2 can do this just fine. What am I doing wrong? My phone is stock, not rooted

I would guess that the ps3 driver is not built in to the stock kernel. Gonna have to wait for unlocked bootloaders and custom kernels.

game pad for lg g2

Is there anyone knows a compatible game pad for lg g2? Please confirm if there is ..
Please confirm the price .. Thanks
Any bluetooth gamepad will work with the G2.
I like using the PS4 controller. Pairs up nicely and works great.
The Red Samauri at Gamestop is $7 and is a PS3 Clone. It works good. The Ouya Controller is a 360 Clone.
I could go on and on but any Bluetooth Gamepad will work. Read up on reviews and pick one you like.

I can't speak for the aforementioned controllers, but the PS3 controller works great. It does require SixAxis though.
Xbox one pad for LG G2 plausible?
I recently bought an Ipega dual analog Bluetooth controller and it works perfect! Price is right around $25 US dollars, works great with racing games, FPS type games, and emulators. Highly recommend checking it out. It also has a mouse mode which you can use for games or apps. I find the mouse mode especially helpful with Photoshop Touch.
