Depends on what you did during that period.. If the processor was running at MAX frequency the entire time, yes thus might be normal.. Also as I notice from the screenshot, the screen is always in in that time frame.. So you deduce from this

No. It's broken. You should send it to me.
Hi,
Thats an abnormal drain. Try restarting your phone and seeing if the problem persists. Also note that the ROM you are using is still under testing and not a finished product so might experience some difficulties. Consider shifting to a more stable ROM if problem persists.
Having said that, battery drain will depend quite a lot on what apps you have running in the background and your settings.
Best way to analyse the situation is by installing an app called 'Better battery stats'. Its by a XDA member and if i'm not mistaken he offers it on XDA as free download. Try to see what is causing partial wakelocks and kernel wakelocks (your phone should be on deep sleep mode for the majority of time). Try to see what MHz is your processor running at (it shouldnt be in the 1400 range for too long unless you are playing some heavy duty games)
Also try to search for threads on 'wakelocks' on XDA to get more details on this subject.
I have experienced close to 10% drop in 1.5 hr in stock ROMs and around 15% in five hours on CleanNote ROM in idle states with lots of background apps disabled.
Whilst I have been having the screen on, it shouldn't be burning this fast and it certainly didn't use to. 23 minutes on battery and 20% burned?
Did you install a new rom or new kernel? You can install an app like BetterBatteryStats to check out what might be causing this battery drain.

Stock ROM 4.0.4 and have never rooted or flashed anything on before. It is completely stock and unaltered in every way. All I've done is install apps. It just seems to have been a little bad recently. I have BetterBatteryStats on, but the it isn't wakelocks. As I said, I've got the screen on consistently so the phone will always be awake. It is just that 20% in that amount of time seems really high, even for constant use, and I swear it didn't use to be that bad. I've installed Juice Defender because it tends to be good in how it managers network and WiFi. So far, things seem to be stabilising. But, I still want to know what can cause such sharp drainage...
Do you have a lot of apps running in the background? This is most likely the cause. Brightness is a big issue also. Flash a kernal!

Check that you have Auto-brightness enabled. Also, I found that certain apps can drain battery big time. I agree with checking via a battery stats program. Maybe an APP is running in the background causing the cpu to stay at max speed?

Totally agree. Before I root my Note to delete some unuse apps from stock 4.0.4, the battery drains very fast. The most reason is some apps running in the background.
Did you change your sim recently? Sometimes the culprit is sim card.

Not fixes, but suggestions:
- An app like Green Power will stop data usage when screen off
- As others said, look into your display. My favourite app is Display Brightness as it adds an invisible slider on your screen
- For some reason, Chrome in the last week began to EAT my phone. I uninstalled it and I'm back to a blessed 1% an hour drain

Thanks for your link, really helpful for me:good:
You may have to check your battery. Will it be hot when you are using it? Look at your battery, does it look "fat"? It happened once to me before, after changing a new battery. It's fine now. It was caused by overcharging it during the night.
I experienced it on my previous phone, now im going to prove it again in my note because i changed my sim recently and now i cannot achieved the 5 hrs i had before that my original sim card, best phone can do now is 3.5 hrs. I try to contact my provider if they can restore my previous sim card and see what will happen, its just a suspect.

how can it be over charging. Doesnt it has built in function that cut-off power when charging complete. all modern chargers have that..
really would like to know cause i always charge the phone before going to sleep..

So, dont worry..put your charger for charging & u can confidently go to sleep :good:
If you have network location checked and or GPS in /setting/location and security.
that's your suck battery problem.
Network location awake the phone constantly in accord with weather widget and lot apps in background that use this feature.

Hey folks! I have recently started observing that my phone is consumimg excessive battery. I really cant seem to understand the cause, but for sure, I know there is an issue unknown to me. As I can see and observe, the situations I've faced are as follows:
1. When fully charged and unplugged, usage on wi-fi, screen on and some music leads to empty battery in almost 2 hours sharp.
2. When fully charged and unplugged, wi-fi off, sync off, GPS off, data off and literally everything off including the screen, then from 100% charge to 25% charge in 8 hours.
3. When I use the phone, as mentioned in point 1, suppose the phone discharges from 100% to say 60% in 40 minutes, the thing I do is turn the screen off. Then as soon as I do this, the battery level rises up until I turn the screen on again. Funny! :/ xD
4. Now the final case is this. When I turn of the phone at suppose 20%( probably unreal charge stats), connect it to a charger, and then while connected, switch on the phone, the phone gets charged up to like 50% or so. Epic fail!
5. Oh I almost forgot, battery usage charts show Android OS consuming 40-85% of the charge at all times in which the wakelock stats are an alarming 3-4 hours as per the 2nd point. Screen consumes 30% of the charge and Android System follows
I am posting my battery usage screenshots here.
1. The first screenshot was the one before I rebooted at 20% charge. Look at the roller coaster battery stats. XD
2. The second screenshot is the one showing all the stupid processes consuming excess battery.
3. Observe the difference towards the extreme right of the third screenshot and the first one. The third screenshot was the one after I rebooted. There is a long white line at the right end of the third one which shows the rise of battery charge from 20% to 56% precisely. Bloody hell!!
:/
Kindly, anyone who feel that they can help, look into this matter and suggest me good options to follow.

My Xperia V was draining much battery while sleeping, so yesterday I flashed cm-10.1.3-RC2 hoping it could get better.
But it's still draining almost 30% in a period of 8 hours, while I'm sleeping.
I can notice a huge drain caused by Google Services and have already greenified some apps.
It can't be normal, right?! Could someone help me?
Despite this problem, now I have a really better smartphone... So, thank FXP and, please, keep supporting Xperia V.

Not sure if this question belongs to be an own thread...but ok. here we go.
from my experience with Cm i can tell you, if you want better battery life, then you maybe should use a stock firmware!
I used CM and AOKP some weeks before, but the battery drain wasnt normal, not to say horrible.
But this is my experience. You should ask in your CM-Rom Thread, or CM Q/A Thread i think.
I'm a new member and I couldn't ask this in CM thread
I understood what you've said, but even using stock rom I was having that percentage of draining at night...
Do you have a Xperia V?
Could you (or someone else) tell me how much draining is considered normal in the period I've mentioned before?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
30% in 8 hours means that on average your battery will last a day.
That is perfectly normal.
Also, if you keep flashing stuff and installing apps then it drains battery quicker. Leave it alone for a week and see if it settles down.
Sorry, i have a Xperia T.
in the xperia T thread of tilals unofficial CM build (development section) someone mentions also such problems:

Omg, my Galaxy s3 loses only 2% in the same period while sleeping, it's a BIG difference
I had been facing this problem since I bought this phone (2 months ago), that's why I tried to flash CM yesterday... So, I think that nothing will change if I just wait...
Anyway, thank you guys...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
apologies, I didn't see that it was 8 hours while you were asleep. That is not right. But it may be because its working hard after a flash. Please leave it for a while and it should settle, or install better battery stats app (Free on xda) and see whats keeping the phone awake.
Also check what your cpu is set at and the governor, if its on performance it will be maxing out all the time..

Some screenshots.
The graphs show another problem: it is like the phone just know that lost some battery when I turn on the screen.
For example: if I leave the phone with 95%, it pass the hole night "thinking" it has this value, but when I turn on the screen the battery instantly loses around 15%, this "fast drain" stabilizes when it reaches the "real percentage".
Could it be a hardware problem? The battery itself...
Has already someone noticed something similar?

Yes I did. All from the scratch. I just red that one htc one owner had similar issue and his fast boot option was off he enabled it and things got way better. so was mine off just enabled it.
Why is everyone so surprised at Android System being at the top of the new battery stats?
It makes sense really. If you don't use your phone a lot, and nothing else is running taking up power, the system is going to be at the top...
As far as an actual drop in battery life, I'd download GSM battery monitor or Better Battery Stats and check for wakelocks.

Yeah I agree, especially if you reset your battery monitoring often, it can be highly confusing and misleading to read battery usage stats. I use Du Battery Monitor which I've been happy with.
I have wakelock detector installed. And also noticed android system wakelocks on cpu wakelocks are high on the high. Higher than anything else. And this happend in the first half an hour I am on the phone. First screenshot is cpu wakelock and second is wakelock triggers.
What would you guys advice to monitor for battery usage : over what time period and what to pay attention most. My wake lock detector is on now and I will do more screenshots tonight.

Well at least your phone is going into deep sleep and doesn't look like any rogue app. You may want to Greenify facebook though.
Also look here for a battery "calibration", some say it worked for them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43579577&postcount=36105
And don't forget you need to let your battery "settle" which takes a couple of days.

I...don't think 16 hours is terrible considering that you seem to have been doing some Youtube and PDF-reading. The percentage on that PDF viewer seems pretty high but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Facebook is obviously the biggest culprit remaining.
I would try to use Facebook in your browser instead of the app. I'm not a heavy Facebook user and don't need the notifications. It gave me a big battery boost after deinstalling the app. Facebook is constantly syncing and tracking your location, it's very batterie unfriendly
