[Q] How to play muted video and mp3 simultaneously - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I develop WP8 App with C# silverlight
I need to play short looped video (mp4) without sound and mp3-file simultaneously.
I tried to create 2 MediaElements: for audio and video, but WindowsPhone can play only one MediaElement in one time.
Do you know any tricks how to play video and audio simultaneously?
Maybe there are other ways to play mp3 or video (no MediaElement)?
Thanks in advance.

You can always try using the XNA framework and SoundEffect class in order to pull this off. If i'm not mistaken, you can only play .wav files through it (Someone feel free to correct me).

SoundEffect can play only WAV and I need play MP3 files
If i'm not mistaken there is just one way to do id: MediaStreanSource
Maybe someone know how to merge mp3 (audio channel) and mp4 (video channel) ?

MediaStreamSource uses the MediaElement in order to play, so it would definitely interfere. Also, it's part of the certification requirement to check if XNA is playing and to stop it before using anything that derives from the MediaElement.

Tilt Video questions

Took some video at a club last night. It's saved on my device as an MP4.
Even though I have it set to record audio as well, I can't seem to get audio to play when I watch the video in windows media player.
Is it possible the audio was recorded, but I just don't have the correct program for it to play properly?
When I copy to my PC via activesync, what program can I use for an MP4 file? Winamp and windows media player will not play the file.
thanks, I realize these are kind of newb questions.
I use Nero Showtime ... for some reason, quicktime will not play these MP4 files ... they may be formated differently.
Thanks. Are there any freeware options for playing these videos?
I wonder if this is related to the video driver issue.
download Videolan or also called VLC. Its an excellent standalone program that does not require any codecs. Its free too.

Playing the .mp4 recorded on my phone..?

What is everyone using to play the video recordings they've made with their phones on their Windows machines?
The format is .mp4 and doesn't play nice on my box...
TW,
Everyone is using Google... seach for mp4 player and you'll find the answer.
However, I use VLC, which opens everything except for doors.
It seems odd that a phone that runs MS software can't play it's own recordings...?
Google, what's that?
I have the opposite problem. I can't replay video on my phone, but it plays fine on the PC.
To play stuff you need codecs. VLC doesn't need codecs. Just google codecs for your PC. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (I think that's what it's called). I use WMP to play everything. It works better than VLC now. And as for the poster above, same thing except you need codecs for your phone. I suggest you download TCPMP. What file type are you trying to run?

so the phone that takes video in mp4 can't play it without another program?
cause I'm having the same problem.
I take video with my camera, can I watch the video on my phone after that?
nope. (I'll search the forums but it's just strange since WM6 was fine; I could take video and play it on my phone fine, I think, I can't remember anymore)
I find that if I rename them with a .3gp extension they play fine in quicktime and in WMP (after setting the association or using "open with"). The same files with the original .MP4 extension choke in both (different issues, but neither play them correctly).

they are already named .3gp, which may be the problem since my phone doesn't play .3gp files.
I can't change the extension to mp4 either.
not only that but i can't play them on my computer; this is crazy since my computer can play anything.
I just convert mine: http://media-convert.com/convert/index.php
works well and it's pretty quick. I usually move the video to my PC first but I bet I could upload it using Skyfire.

[Q] How to play .mp4 audio files (iTunes)

I have converted from an iPhone to the HTC Fuze. I still have some audio files that are .mp4. I am interesting in playing audio more than video. Can I get the stock player to play these?
If not, what is the best player to download (for free) for playing audio .mp4 files?
Thanks
If they are DRMed, you'll have to search on how to un-DRM them (I wouldn't ask about that here though). If they are not DRMed, you can play them in Windows Media Player.
I know about the DRM thing, but last time I checked, Windows Media does not play mp4. Am I wrong?
With regard to audio files from iTunes (m4a/AAC/mp4 or whatever you want to call them), they will play just fine via the music player interface in Touch Flo 3d. The only problem I've encountered is that for some reason the audio manager will not sort songs in track order. As yet I have not found a fix for this (and no one else seems to be asking about it either). Still, at least I didn't have to convert my iTunes library into MP3 files ; )
Purchased tracks will not play (in fact they will not even be visible).
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a coding/decoding algorithm mainly used by iTunes to protect the artist and to ensure that the artist gets money for his work since you as a consumer ay have purchased a song or album online. All your own CD's which you may have read-in (ripped) through iTunes will play without any problems.
DRM files, though they appear as MP4 files, cannot be played without the appropriate decoder (iTunes for example).
Ways and methods HOW to bypass this mechanism MUST NOT be discussed here in the forum, do a google research if you interested in.
BTW same issues may happen if you go from iPhone to iPhone or transfer files from PC to PC even if you backed up your iTunes license.
You may bear an Apple store a visit or call Apples cust. support they can provide you with a special key that you do not have to purchase all your songs again.

Track sorting seems to be a general problem of the TF3D player. If you for example have an album which contains two CDs the TF3D player is not able to sort it correctly. It's stupidly sorting:
Track 1 CD1
Track 1 CD2
Track 2 CD1
Track 2 CD2
[...]
Therefore I'm using Pocket Player instead.

Is there a way to launch Pocket Player from TF3D in place of the in-unit player?? I have been searching for an answer for a week here and found not a clue. Any help with this would be appreciated, otherwise I will just launch from programs as I am now doing, but it seems a waste to have a nice tab wasted!

No, I don't think so. Unfortunately the only think you can do is completely disabling the TF3D player by removing it with AdvancedConfig.
I wonder if it's possible to at least get the Audio Manager to play tracks according to file name. At least that way if tracks were numbered 01, 02 etc that would get around the problem of it not seeing the track number in the tag.
Trouble is I can't work out how to do this.... I've been rumaging in the registry under HKLM\software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng but there doesn't seem anything obvious to me. Maybe a key could be added? Anyone got any ideas?
How about mp4 video?
It took 20 minutes to load a video mp4 file onto my microsd card, but it's there. Windows Media Player won't recognize it. The video player app portion of the camera will actually play the file, but it takes several seconds to launch and is generally choppy after that. It's a shame, too, because the video quality is great ... it's just very choppy.
Is there Windows Mobile player out there somewhere that plays these mp4 files SMOOTHLY? I knew the Tilt had issues with the driver not playing video smoothly, but I didn't think it was a problem with the Fuze. Sure would like to watch some quality video in mp4 mode on my Fuze rather than my video ipod.
I love this forum, alot of smart people here (usually).
To talk of disabling software or this drm would be wrong. But Itunes itself posesses a way for you to back up your music. Its totally legit, and a common problem out there. (itunes not playing on winmo or other devices).
So if its a totally legit way of using the itunes program itself, to simply create a backup of your songs... why is it so horrible to discuss?
No one is suggesting hacking or disabling the drm, simply getting the music they paid for to work.

Quick question about video/ audio

Hi,
Whenever I play a video (on my pc) I shot with my n1 it wont play any sound. if i watch the vid on the n1 itself it does play sound. How can I solve this?
forgive my bluntness
You need to download the correct codecs for PC.

And where can we find those?
Don't say install Apple Quicktime
/E
Try Shark007 codecs or just install VLC.
quick time indeed works, but vlc will not play sound. Any 3gp converter will probably work as well

No sound with .mov files when downloaded or imported

I'm trying to upload (to Instagram) some videos I took using a digital camera and the sound isn't working within the Android system. I have tried downloading from Google Photos (where the sound works when streaming), and uploading via USB, neither have produced sound.
The sound will not work in any apps I've tried including Google Photos and Instagram. Remuxing into .mp4 or .mkv doesn't help the situation, there is still no audio in the android system. I'm trying to avoid having to demux and convert the audio to another format.
Has anyone had this issue before? Searching around isn't giving me any results. Using videos from this digital camera has worked for me up until fairly recently, within the last year IIRC. I can't change the camera settings to encode audio in another format, it currently captures it in "PCM S16 LE (sowt)."
Running stock 7.1.1 (N6F27H), Magisk 12, elementalX, TWRP. Digital Camera is a Fujifilm Finepix F750exr.
.mov files are difficult on many devices. Have you tried playing in in VLC for android? If that app won't play it, it isn't going to be played on android ?
Converting the container (.mov to .mp4) won't help unless the audio format is converted as well.

Interestingly enough, the audio plays in VLC, but it is very laggy/stuttery. I don't suppose there's a way to (excuse me if this is stupid) add/update codecs in Android? I swear this used to work fine but something must have updated/changed.
VLC may use Android libraries for the most common video formats, but it contains the rest within the app. MOV files I believe aren't common enough to have built-in Android support, so you might want to look into beta versions of VLC, as they may fix your issues. At the same time, see if another app is interfering with playback.

How can I determine if another app is interfering with playback?
If you're rooted, install a logcat reader like Logcat Extreme and run it at the same time you run the movie. After the movie has played, check the Logcat.
I don't know if you're running Windows or not, but I would look for a version of the video that is more compatible with both the PC and the device. I had a problem with a few of my old MOV files on my PC not having sound in Media Player Classic HomeCinema. I ended up replacing those files with AVI versions that I found online.
Cool, I'll set up the log in a bit and look around.
This is unfortunately the format that my old digital camera outputs into. It might just be time to look for a new one.

Look for a converter. But, you have a new camera. The N6 can do video.
