Hey Guys,
so I've decided to sell my Nook HD+ and wanna make sure I deleted it properly.
I installed the CM 10.2 from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500
Is there anything else I need to do except using the standard Factory-Reset-wiping from the settings? (I also deleted the SD card and removed it ofc.)
As far as I remember I did use the Nook original software for a short time before I installed CM10... Is that gonna be an issue?
Thanks for your help!

It depends on what you want running on it when you sell it.
If you want to keep CM10.1 on it, go to CWM and factory reset and to clear your media files go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'.
If you want it back to stock, do the same wiping with CWM followed by flashing the plain stock zip from item 6 in my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.
And having run stock for a while makes no difference.

Hello leapinlar, thanks for your response.
I want CM10.2 running on it, and thats also the one thats currently on it. (I typed in wrong before)
Uhm, as far as I remember I only got into CWM with the SD card, I created with your guide. Is there a combination boot into CWM the Nook? Or do I have to make a SD card again?
I didnt wanted to try it out because last time I tried to boot into it and I ended up restoring Stock Nook and had to start over... (Its been a while though)
/edit: so I found this, from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364
When you need to get into recovery, you can either do "reboot to recovery" in reboot menu (need to enable that in settings) or reboot the nook, and when you see original nook boot logo, press and hold power + home buttons for about 4 seconds.

but I cant find any reboot into CWM option and if i do the reboot + Nook+Power Button then I get a small window that asks me whether I want to factory reset or not..
I created a new SD card now and got into CWM and reinstalled CWM into eMMC and could boot into it afterwards. Then I factory reset and formatted "/data and /data/media (/sdcard)"
Thanks
Looks like its good to go! Man I'm sad to part my ways with it. ;_;

Hello,
Kudos to all the nice folks here for the CM mod and updates.
My Nook HD+ has battery issues and was told to send it back to B&N. I took a backup of the stock ROM before installing CM but I'm unable to find it :crying:
I've searched a lot for this and would really really appreciate a link to download the ROM and copy to the microSD card.
I believe I just need the "clockworkmod" folder on the microSD card, right? If not, it would be great to have quick steps.
Thanks again for your time..
You can get the plain stock zip that is flashable with CWM from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. Item 6. That will take you back to pure stock so you can deal with B&N.

Thanks a lot for your prompt response, leapinlar.
I downloaded "NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).zip" and extracted it to get "NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(05.15.13).img" which I burned to the microSD card using "Win32DiskImager"
And then, I copied "NookHDplus-factory-2.1.1-plain-stock.zip" file to the card. I tried inserting this card to the Nook HD+ device but it just boots to CM instead of showing options to restore.
I believe I'm missing something. I'm so sorry to bother you but would greatly appreciate if you could spare a few moments to point me in the right direction. It would be immensely helpful.
Thanks so much again for responding.
You can try using my alternate procedure in item 1a in my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.

Thanks again, leapinlar.
I tried the alternate procedure and did the following:
1. Used "SDFormatter" to format the card and used "EaseUS Partition Master" to make the single partition on the microSD card "active"
2. Copied files making sure to copy "MLO" file first before copying the rest. (Please refer to attachment for the files that were in the card)
I was able to complete the "install from SD card" option and it finished with the following message:
Code:
Random Offset: 0xcb
Boot Files...
Boot Files...
Install Complete.
When I tried rebooting the device, Nook HD+ seems to load stock but gets stuck at 99% forever. Not sure how to proceed now. Can I just go ahead and return the device or should I bring it to working condition?
Thanks again for sparing your time, leapinlar.. Greatly appreciate it.
Did you do a factory reset with CWM before rebooting after flashing the plain stock? You need to.

Hi. I am selling my nook hd+ and would like to restore the B&N stock rom. I am running CM 10.1 stable. Based on this thread and leapinlar's advice in his CWM thread, I have the following steps:
1. Place the backed-up nook rom zip in the CWM folder.
2. Reboot into CWM recovery
3. Wipe data and rom
4. Flash the stock zip file
Based on leapinlar's advice in his CWM thread, it is my understanding that flashing the zip will fully restore the unit to stock rom, including stock recovery. Is that correct?
EDIT: Sorry, but perhaps I was mistaken. The stock rom zip has to be loaded on the bootable CWM sd card?
Appreciate all input. Thank you.

Restoring the backup will only do the ROM and not recovery. You must flash the plain stock zip if you want both replaced. And yes, you copy the zip to the SD. And just do the factory reset, no other wiping.

When you refer to factory reset, you are referring to factory reset of the current rom on the unit (i.e. in my case, CM 10.1)?

Hello guys, I would just like to add to this- I actually wanted to restore to stock rom as well.
I remember using the img burn method as outlined before to get to cwm recovery. I actually tried the new method involving just formatting and copying the 5 boot files and copying the zips as well. However, with the sd card in the slot, the device just boots to the stock rom.
From reading leapinlar's guide, I remember saying that it will take about 10 boots to boot into cwm recovery- however, I did over 15 times now and with no success- is there any other way to get to recovery mode quicker?
I actually ended up running into TWRP recovery and there did the flashing of stock rom, but it didn't get rid of the cyanoboot screen- I think I need to go through one more factory reset in order to get rid of the boot screen, and therefore will need to access the cwm recovery.
Any help will be appreciated. thanks

You flashed my plain stock 2.1.1 zip from my HD/HD+ CWM thread with TWRP? That should have taken it completely back to stock without the cyanoboot logo showing. Factory reseting will not remove it. Are you sure it completed properly?

Actually I did do that- and sure enough the nook logos are showing now- but the cyanoboot logo still shows in the beginning. I think the solution is to try these steps again in cwm recovery instead of twrp- not sure how to get there though- can you offer me any advice in booting into cwm recovery mode ? Doing the recovery multiple times haven't really worked out so far.

yes! I actually flashed the rooted stock. So then the next question I have is- is it possible to have no cyanoboot logo yet have the device rooted?
also, I am still wondering as to why the cwm recovery is not showing up when I use my sd. is the method using img recovery still valid?
thanks for your help, as always.

Yes, my root methods before rev3 used the old way of rooting, without the revised boot.img. But those versions did not have the /system file protection removed. But I removed it from my site when I published rev3.
And yes the CWM SD is still valid using both methods. But sometimes the img method is harder to achieve.

can you please explain removed system file protection? do you mean the root is not complete? some app can not get su access?

That is correct, there is no cyanoboot logo with rev2. And rev2 works perfectly as root.
What I mean by no removed file protection is that with rev2 you cannot change any files in /system without it being detected and on the next boot it resetting itself to pure stock with no root. With rev3 that file protection for /system is removed, but it shows the cyanoboot logo. It is a trade off.
If you want rev2 I can repost the link.

So, I have used every trick you have posted to recover or install a new rom. After I install the rom and GAPPS with the bootable SD card, I restart and it just sits on the NOOK screen. I did notice I get a this: INSTALLING UPDATE / Random OFFSET: 0x26d / Boot Files...Boot Files...
The Random Offset number changes each time I try to install the rom.......any ideas?
I was trying to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2097731
because my tablet kept having soft reboots. I updated everything it told me to and now I have cyanoboot. I forgot to download the updated rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2063968
to my NookHD and I'm stuck at the bootloader like an idiot. I tried to adb-push the rom but no luck. I tried a tutorial but it wanted me to adb push to sdcard which I'm very sure it doesn't have enough space. I tried removing the micro sdcard to and see if it'll boot me back to stock but instead it tries to boot to cm which is not on the tablet anymore. Help me please.

Got to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item 1a (make sure to make a new one, don't use the one you had for the hybrid). Then use it to flash a plain stock 2.1.1 zip from item 6. Then do a factory reset with CWM. You should be fixed then and can start over.

I mistakenly tried the OTA update from 10.2 to 11 (EMMC) with TWRP 2.5 I think. It failed and would not boot. I then tried doing a factory reset and reinstalling a 10.2 ROM I found on the internal SD card and it completed (no red FAILED) but would not go beyond the offset circular boot screen. I now tried flashing the cwm-recovery-ovation-6.zip which was successful but when I try to load any new ROM from an SD card I get E: Can't mount /external_sd.
I presume I'm missing something. I don't think I formatted the bootdata folder I see mentioned a lot.

Do you still have the original backup or one from just after you install CM10.2? It might be worth just restoring that using the SD CWM you backedup with.
If the above doesn't work restore to stock grab both stock recovery and ROM from lepinar and get back to a known working state and try again.
what do you mean?
Is there a reason why the CWM is not good? Isn't this a ROM issue, like trying to flash CM 11 with an outdated recovery? and if so, don't I just need to understand how to install a clean 10.2 again?

The CWM for CM11 (6045 or 6046) is not compatible with older versions of zips and older CWMs are not compatible with CM11.
If you have an older version of CWM you can use it to flash CM10.2, but you will need to do a factory reset with the CWM before rebooting after flashing to clear out the mess the bad CM11 install created.

can you point me to the sets of files that work together?
So I see I have CWM 6.0.4.6 on the device. I can do a factory reset and then install CM11 directly or I have to go back to an old CWM and 10.2 first?
How about the issue where 6.0.4.6 does not read the SD card? I tried 2 and 16 gig cards, both EXFat and FAT32. Is that get resolved by the factory reset, or am I formatting the card wrong, or what? Unless there's a general impression that CM11 is not ready, I'd rather go to 11 unless it's necessary to go back first. Do I need to use the internal SD card and if so, how to I mount it to the PC when it's broken like this? Is there a button combination that makes it accessible through Odin or similar?
In the mess I got myself in, I'm to understand that the OTA is always fatal because the recovery does not accompany the flash, and the two are mutualy exclusive? In other words, I need to download the new recovery, the ROM and GAPPS and do all three at the same time to go from 10.2 to 11? But after that, OTAs are OK?

The sdcard issue is just with that version of CWM. Once you get CM11 installed the SD works. I don't know the answer on how to get the rom zip on internal. There is a thread for how to install kitkat (CM11). Maybe that tells you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602796
And whether to go to CM11 is your choice. I have not tried it because I don't think it is ready, but lots of folks like it.
Once you have 6046 on internal memory it is ok to use the OTA for CM11 updates. And you can update now directly without going back to CM10.2.

Is there a TWRP which works on both CM 10.2 and 11?
The port you refer to seems to require that the nook be operational to move the files from the external to Internal card so there are many extra steps to go from a dead machine to CM11. Unless there is a working TWRP. I know lots of people think TWRP is bad news: is it a possible solution for me or more problems?
I gather that you'd go back to 10.2 if this was yours? Is it the simpler solution? I'm not set on the bleeding edge.

And like the other user said, the best solution is to go back to stock and start over. Once on stock you can put all the files on internal and install anything you want. If it were mine I would go back to CM10.1.3 stable, which is what I use now.

I'm not sure what you mean by the permanent sd card method. Do you mean using an sd card to install CM permanently to internal memory? If that is what you meant and you did not install CWM to internal memory, then it is possible that she did something to make it fail on boot and keep trying and the 8 failed boot procedure would kick in and reset the device to stock. The 8 failed boot reset fails if you have CWM on internal memory.

didnt know about the 8 failed boot method , the nook was the wrong way round in the case and everytime it booted the power button was shutting it off
so it looks like its gone back to stock that way
ah i understand now , re reading the guide the cwm doesnt get installed to the internal memory only stays on the sd card
pretty handy for people wanting to get back to stock easily

If you read the guide carefully you will see that CWM does get installed on internal memory. It says to download and install three files and one of those three is CWM for internal.

Hello,
i am new here and have a big problem ..
i have a nook hd+ with cyanogenmod cm11.
the update worked great and everything was fine. i used some nightly updates.
after one the boot sequence was really slow and android was nearly unusable.
i updated the cwm recovery to v6.0.4.5 and nothing where flashable anymore.
can not change the cwm update or downgrade
can not flash the android
bootloop
with a bootable cwm 28 (to stock) it was also impossible to flash the factory rom .
it showed a random offset and installation failed. (see image)
what can i do ? i tried it so often and nothing help.

Download the newer plain stock 2.2.0 and try to flash that one. But before you flash go to mounts and storage and format /system.

Try flashing the stock recovery from item 5 and then try doing the 8 failed boot procedule. Just interrupt the boot by holding the power key for several seconds until it powers off. Do this 8 times in a row and on the next boot it should try to reset itself to pure stock.

thanx.. the problem is that i cant flash any recovery.
after install from .zip, cwm 6.0.4.5 tell me "done". but when i boot into recover it is still the same.
so the 8 times boot technique didnt worked for me.
i am going mad a little... :cyclops:
close to throw that nice thing out of the window. damn.

Sounds like it is bricked. You might as well throw it out the window.

Did you try flashing recovery from SD-based (rather than your current internal emmc) recovery?

Sounds like a nightmare...
So, I've had my nook hd+ for over a year and I'm finally considering rooting and installing cyanogen... but this post has left me fearful of bricking my nook, while it's a little old now, I still need it for school, work, etc... Is there anything in particular that the poster did wrong that I myself should avoid? I want to know that I can safely restore to stock if necessary and I've read the materials and watched videos to feel relatively comfortable... but then I read this lol. Also, I've been wondering how you create a duel boot disc so I could maintain stock unscathed internally and be able to have all the advantages of cyanogen and android when I have a sd card inserted? I've seen that some pay for sd cards out there do this but haven't had any luck finding a tutorial for that itself? Thanks for any info, I really appreciate it.
P.S. to the original poster, I'm super sorry about your nook, that sounds like it sucks.

I would say his mistake was choosing CM11. Many CM11 users have reported bricking. Even some users running CM11 on SD have reported emmc bricking since even SD installs use a little of emmc (/cache). I recommend CM10.1.3 stable. I can't think of anyone bricking with that. Go to the dummies guide linked in my signature for instructions.
