[Q] Have any former Note 3 owners who JUMPed to the Note 4 regretted doing so?

Hey everyone (particularly those I previously interacted with in the - now much less active - Note 3 forum )
My fist post in this forum signifies... pretty much a complete 180 wrt my interest in the Note 4, altering it from "ehh, no thanks" to "I wonder if the Tmo store down the street has any in stock?"
First, my current Note 3: I freaking love it, easily my #1 fav out of the many phones I've owned. It's running Tweaked 3.9, leanKernel 3.11.3 and themed with @cbucz24's B&W Tweaked theme and a sick themed stock Samsung keyboard that he made. Run's like a dream (Antutu benchmarks always in the mid 40k's with an all time high of about 47.5K), Nova Prime, any otherwise heavily customized software-wise (most significant example: I've basically totally altered the stock S pen function via GMD S-pen / no auto Air Command, but launch-able via GMD and significant progress towards my goal of doing literally anything (access obscure settings / direct dial, etc.) just by scribbling a path on the screen. Also, froze flashbar service, replaced with sidebar launchers of Flppr - access pre-configured widgets, divided into categories, from ANY screen via swipe gestures (awesome in general, but particularly useful for "remotes" such as Smart Remote, Yatse, Ultimate Remote...), OmniSnitch (grabbed from the ROM flashed on my "week or so NEW" Note 10.1 2014, T-mo lte variant (p607t, which is actually just a carrier branded P605 - international lte variant, thus completely compatible with p605 ROMs :good, and PIE. Last example (maybe most significant) example, replaced Pen Window, which is rather slow, clunky, and functionally limited AND split window with the far superior XHalo module. Really the only "native" function that I use is handwriting recognition, which IMO works amazingly well). Also, I'm pretty good storage-wise, with the 32GB internal, a 64GB external (must have root app: FolderMount!) AND a few of those tiny USB / USB OTG drives - two of them being USB 3 / 64 GB (but the first Corsair one I got was "misplaced" (read: very likely lost forever) - replaced it with the equivalent Patriot drive which has the fastest transfer speeds I've EVER seen on a flash drive, but via PC USB 3 and phone micro usb 2! Oh, last thing, tons of accessories, most of which incompatible with the Note 4 (ex. cases... so many cases! and a micro USB 3 4 port hub).
So while, having the 'old' JUMP program and not yet using it, it makes more "sense" to trade my Note 3 for a 4, then do the same when this period of "transitional" phone releases passes, and the 64-bit "phone of my dreams" (yes, to confirm, phone ownership CAN affect sleep ) becomes available. However, given my exceptional "fondness" for my N3 & it's extensively customized tweaks, I am somewhat concerned about ditching it for its (currently, at least) less customizable successor.
Keeping my N3 AND getting an N4 really is not an option - I don't really have the cash to buy it straight up, and wouldn't be particularly compelled to if I did. However, having the 'old' JUMP, which I haven't yet used, I feel like, logically, I should go for upgrade 1 of 2 / year, and swap the N3 for a 4, which would be sort of a "transitional" device, until something that I NEED to have released.
SO Note 4 owners (JUMPers... first and last time I'll ever be using that adjective ), where any of you in a similar situation, but decided to go for it anyways? Are you happy to have done so? Any regrets?
Last (any peripheral) question: is anyone aware of the current availability of the N4? Is it typically available in stores yet (particularly in Chicago - the store near me is in Lincoln Park on Clark, if I have any neighbors around here )? Or is the best (fastest) way to JUMP via ordering online (if so, would it be a pre-order and if so, how long of a delay should be expected?) I do know a really cool / helpful guy at the T-mo store (who I talked EXTENSIVELY about root etc., explicitly making sure the new tablet wasn't locked down before buying it, and even straight up asking him if he thought that it would be cool to flash alternative firmware on my new deposit-less AC1900 if I flashed it back to stock before returning it, to which he surprisingly responded "yeah, I'm pretty sure that's fine"!) so he could possibly help me out if availability is still an issue (he also ordered a LTE booster, sent to my house, since I told him I wanted both but was told I could only have one or the other shipped. Paid the deposit for that one, but just got tracking info: delivery date = tomorrow )
So I can / plan to roll by the store to check it out, but just wondering if anyone has bought / ordered one recently and has any info re: current availability.
Really looking forward to discussing / exploring the mod potential for this device with you all! Thanks in advance - mostly hoping to resolve the matters that are making me hesitant to JUMP over to this device and it's MUCH more active discussion :good:

For me, the Note 4 is everything I've ever wanted in a phone (minus dual front facing speakers, but oh well)
I LOVED my Note 3. LOVED it. It was hands down the best device I've ever owned. Until now. I didn't use my JUMP (even though I have JUMP 1.0) kept the Note 3 so I could give it to my friend who would never be able to afford a beastly phone like that.
The Note 4 is the best phone money can buy right now (IMHO). No regrets, and I got it on release day. I baby it and it already has a couple of minor scratches on the aluminum bezel but I could care less. I never dropped it, ever, and I'm ultra careful with my phones (the Note 3 is still flawless, I mean literally looks brand new). So keep that in mind, you will get scratches on the bezel, but honestly even with that, still THE best phone in the world.

That tweaked 3.9 is a GREAT rom, but the note4 is an all around better device. Battery life, camera focus speed, processor speed (once tweaked a little), and the s-pen does function better.
And that fast charger makes anything else obsolete. Charging to 75-90% in 1hr is just crazy.
Screen is pretty nice too :wink:
I was pretty bummed about the rear speaker, and the non wolfson dac, but I guess only a few media people even care about sound quality lol.
If it's a stretch money wise, just skip this iteration, it's improved but not mind blowing

Hey thanks a lot man! Just called the store, and the guy made it pretty clear that online order was the way to go (specifically, they had one white one at 6PM Thurs., and he said it'd likely be gone within 10 mins!) Additionally, with the online JUMP, I have 30 days to give my N3 a :crying: proper goodbye :laugh: )
I'm going to go ahead and find + order a case (slim but protective w/ built in port covers / tempered glass saver. Would welcome recommendations on that :highfive:

Ah yes, the speaker; meant to address that. Placement / quality of a device's speaker(s) is probably the lowest priority criteria for device selection. By that I mean, if I'm doing anything on the phone where I care about sound quality (media, gaming (occasionally, but not usually), pretty much anything aside from ring / notification tones) I'm going to be connecting either headphones, APTX BT speaker, or even my 7.1 AVR. Any of those is going to produce better sound than even the best built in speakers on any mobile device, for which I would do the same. The lack of the Wolfson DAC is a drag or rather a "wtf sammy".
Situation seems to be that N4 is unquestionably "better" overall than the N3, and I basically have the choice of walking around with one or the other in my pocket, or burning 1/2 JUMP upgrades. Now that development for this phone has picked up, it seems to me that grabbing an N4 vs. holding onto my N3 would be an "emotional rather than logical" decision.

When you get your phone, you will love it. I switched from an AT&T S3 to this T-Mobile N4. A tad pricey, but oooh so worth it. I've wanted a Note phone for years and I finally have one. I'm tempted to root and tweak but worried about tripping Knox and any unforseen warranty hassles.
Anyway, glad you love your N3. Hope the N4 is everything you want it to be.

I thought i was the only one,
The UI feels a bit clunkier And the battery life isnt nearly as good for me as a heavy user i could get almost a full day and a half, on the note 4 i might get barely a day same use.
If i couldve taken the note 3 software multi window UI and put it in the note 4 body it would be the perfect phone.

I have to agree. Turned my note 3 on last night to play with it and it's smooth. Still on stock rooted and animation is smoother with less lag.
Battery on my note 4 i would say lasts 15% less. I've only disconnected my phone for 5 hours with 2:15 screen time and I'm already at 55%. I'm losing about an hour total screen time compared to my note 3.

Yes, Note 4 is worth the JUMP....
I loved my Note 3, but I love my Note 4 more.
There are only two things that I miss about my Note 3.
Temperature sensor
Humidity sensor
If none of these matter to you, the Note 4 is a no brainer. Even if those things mattered to you (like it matters to me ) the Note 4 is still a no brainer.
Those are great AnTuTu benchmakrs for the Note 3, but the SD800 in the N3 is no comparison to the N4 SD805. If you look in my sig, I've hit 50K+ on stock kernel running FireKatv2.

[Q] Nexus 6 vs Oneplus One

Hey guys,
So today was preorder day for the Oneplus one. I have an order in for both the Nexus 6 and a One Plus. I have not really decided which one I will keep. If I keep the Nexus, I will probably give the One plus to my little sister for her birthday (because she is still rocking an iPhone 4s).
I know all the specs of the two phones and there are certain details about the N6 I like over the OPO. For instance I like the curved screen on the N6 (like on the MotoX) and the wireless charging and the better camera. Both my brothers have OPO's and they love them.
But the price difference is HUGE! 350 vs 700. (Though to be fair I still like that I bought both of them for about the same price as a 128gig iPhone 6+.
Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has gotten their N6 and also has a OPO that has any opinions on the matter.

I owned the OnePlus One. Price is awesome for the specs, but CM11S (At least 38R, the last verison I had before I sold it) is so buggy it's a deal breaker for me.

I also owned a OnePlus One. I was not impressed with the screen on it and the bugginess of CM11s. I tried swapping ROMs but overall the phone just didn't feel as solid as my Nexus 5. I ended up selling it and going back to my Nexus 5 until the Nexus 6 came out. After playing with a display Nexus 6 at T-Mobile yesterday, I think I'm going to pick one up. Keep in mind that it feels SIGNIFICANTLY bigger in hand than the OnePlus One, don't let anyone try and tell you otherwise. But if you think you can deal with the size, the Nexus 6 is a much better phone, in my opinion.

I hope to find out by 12\2 when my Cloud White 32gb is set to arrive From Motorola. I have been using a OnePlus One since July and to be honest it has been a great phone. Maybe I got lucky but I have bought and sold a Nexus 5, Note 3, Moto X 2013, Sony Z3 Compact and most recently a G3. Oneplus is just a great overall package. I have no reason to switch to the Nexus 6 but I just couldn't resist and my only hope is that battery life is better than the Nexus 5 as that really was the only downside of owning it.

Awesome, please let me know when you get the Nexus. Mine has not come yet, and my One plus wont be here for another four weeks, so If I like the N6 I think ill just cancel my OPO pre order.

Have both phones. 44S is solid stable. Oneplus has better battery life. The 6 is a great phone, just different. Still getting used to the size. I'm having a wifi issue with the nexus that is ticking me off. The phone shows connected, but there is major lag on the device navigating to pages. Turning it off and the pages come up as fast as you can click them on LTE. Don't have issues with any other device in the house. Toggling WiFi can help, bit the issue returns...

I have all three(including the Note 4) and if you want the best purchase for your money then go with the OnePlus One. It has the best battery life, the best performance at the moment since it's still on KitKat, and I feel I don't get significantly better experience on the Note 4 and Nexus 6 than the One. CM11 is a little buggy every update fixes bugs and Cyanogen Mod is dedicated to bringing Lollipop to the One in three months. Personally, I think the OnePlus One is the best phone you can get in 2014 at a very affordable price.

The screen on the N6 is NOT curved, just the back. Common misconception.

That doesnt even apply to people on sprint or verizon.

Sold my OnePlus and note 3 for Nexus 6 and not looking back. Both were great phones with great batteries but I like having the latest greatest phone.

OnePlus wins hands down but I have one caution, if you're on T-Mobile there is no band 2 or 12 support. If the OnePlus had that I wouldn't have even considered a new phone. Other than that the on plus is a awesome phone.

I feel that the OPO has a better battery life as well. But Turbo Charging... can't live without that now. It just charges so fast and impressive.

Well if you like the One + camera this has the same sensor with OIS which is good. The IMX214 is a good sensor so hopefully we can get devs to have the software follow.

Yeah but if you don't need to charge then the turbo charger isn't as important. Of I find myself needing a little boost for good measure on the one plus a charge while I shower before going out for the night always gets me enough juice and then some.
Man itd be nice if the one plus had those bands I need.

Nexus 6 VS One Plus One
Hey Guys,
So here goes my story...
I ordered my One Plus (during the preorder with no Invite) maybe a week after I ordered my Nexus 6 and got the OPO two days before my Nexus arrived. However, at that time I refrained from opening the OPO because I didn't want to lose the resale value of the OPO. In the end the chrome N on the back of the Nexus fell of and I decided to open the OPO to compare the two. I decided to keep the OPO and return the Nexus, below are some of the reasons I made that choice.
I opened the Nexus 6 and was stunned by the phone. Watching the videos and reading reviews you get a sense of the size of the phone, but never having held it before this I was not really sure what to expect. This phone is HUGE. I was stunned by the build quality and the size. I loved the curved edges of the screen and the resolution was amazing. I was okay with the size because it could still fit in my (skinny) jeans pockets, but I was not in love with it. I was originally gunning for the Cloud white, but couldn't get my hands on it. Got the Midnight Blue in 64 gig and ended up loving the color. I loved the color until I touched the back of the phone and realized that my fingerprints got everywhere. Seriously, this phone is a smudge magnet. However, since I am not a fan of cases, this was something I could live with.
Similarly opening the box of the One Plus One I was very impressed. The packaging was very nicely done. I know it does not have any impact on how the phone is used, but it is a very nice presentation that I appreciated none the less. The phone itself has very nice build quality. It does not have as many curves and subtleties as the Nexus, but I like the way it feels in my hand and equals the 6 in quality, even if it is a simpler design.
I used the Nexus 6 for three weeks and am on my sixth day with the One Plus. Here are my impressions of the devices after that period mainly focusing on what stands out during MY use of them.
Ergonomics:
As far as the feel of the Nexus 6 is concerned at first I was worried about how big it was. I was coming from a 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5 and was a bit scared about how it was going to work. After three weeks I was no longer worried about it. I have gotten used to it. However, I was not sold on the 6 inch screen. It was never 100 percent comfortable for me to use and I always had to use two hands. I have hands on the smaller size, but not freakishly small, however I was always scared to use it one handed, even just opening up my twitter feed and scrolling through gave pause because I was afraid to drop it and crack that beautiful screen. One thing that I found particularly difficult was texting. If I were in bed with the phone above my head, it was so hard to text because the screen was so wide. My fingers did not have enough range of motion to hold the phone in a secure way and also reach the outer edges of the screen to reach letters such as A or L, O and P. It was a weird experience that I remedied by installing the Swype keyboard app and condensed the keyboard to one side of the screen.
Using the One Plus One immediately felt more comfortable. It seems to fit my hand better and I am a huge fan of the “sandstone” texture of the back. I can use it more easily with one hand and am able to text using one hand as well.
Screen and Media Viewing Experience:
As for that Nexus 6 screen. What can I say. It is beautiful. The colors are great and its sharp as a tack. I loved watching videos on it and reading kindle books on it. It was noticeably sharper than the OPO's 1080p screen. It's not a day and night difference, and if the two weren't sitting next to each other on the table, I probably would not have noticed anything. But when the two phones are next to each other you can tell which one has a higher resolution display. I used the Nexus to watch a lot of youtube videos and loved the experience. With the front firing speakers, this was a great media consumption device. I loved being able to use this instead of my computer or tablet to watch videos and read books or news articles. Six inches was a great size to view everything on.
The One Plus One also has a great screen. The colors are accurate and it is very pleasing to look at. I can watch youtube videos here also, however the overall experience is not as nice because the speakers are not forward firing. Though they have great volume, the speakers are not as good to use as the Nexus simply because of their orientation. With this phone I am more predisposed to watch videos on my tablet or TV. Reading is a very similar experience and I have no problem reading for more than an hour on either device.
Usability:
This section is where the One Plus really starts to pull away. For those who don’t remember the specs (lets be real though, I’m just putting them here so we can all revel at the fact that both of these phones have more power than my current work computer) the Nexus 6 sports the new quad-core Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7 GHz with 3 gigs of ram while the One Plus One has the one generation older quad-core 801 chip clocked at 2.5 GHz with the same amount of ram. For reference my “vintage” 2012 Macbook Air has a 2GHz i5 intel chip with 4 gigs of ram.
I don’t know if I had a bad Nexus (or a spectacularly good One Plus), but it always felt like the Nexus was taking a tenth of a second more to think about the things it wanted to do. The One Plus, on the other hand feels zippier in everything I do. I don’t do crazy things on the phones. I twitter and Facebook and tinder a lot, but just opening these apps seemed to take a fraction of a second longer on the Nexus 6. If that were the only issue, then it would be less of a deal breaker than an annoyance, but I felt (at least on my particular phone) that the Nexus – and maybe Lollipop - had stability issues. Every now and then – maybe three times a week – the phone would do something weird which would require a restart to remedy. For instance on the last day I had the phone I was trying to open the phone app which is in my Dock on the very bottom of the screen. However, every time I pressed the app it would open something else that was in my dock instead. So instead of opening the phone, it would open up the messaging app or the email app. It happened like ten times in a row after I would get into the wrong app and press the home button. It required a complete reboot, then it would function normally. It was a weird thing that happened intermittently. However, It required a reboot a few times a week (this is what leads me to believe that maybe I had a defective unit?)
The One Plus, so far, has not had any stability issues (maybe because Kit Kat is much more mature than Lollipop). It is great and feels significantly faster than the Nexus. Everything I want it to do it does on command without hesitation. I think this more than anything else is the reason I decided to keep the One Plus instead of the Nexus, it just feels better to use.
One thing that I did like better about the Nexus (and even my old iphone) was the scrolling ability. The One Plus one just does not have as good scrolling in apps such as facebook or twitter. The Nexus has great sensitivity and response. The One Plus feels like it’s a generation behind with its scrolling capabilities.
I also liked Lollipop over Cyanogen Mod Kit Kat because 5.0 has beautiful themes. Material Design is something that I already miss going to the One Plus and I cant wait for the 5.0 Cyanogen Mod update. The one feature I really miss is lock screen notifications. I had that on my iPhone and on the Nexus, but will have to wait for 5.0 on the One Plus.
Camera:
Another area that was very important to me was the Camera. I am not a professional photographer, but I love taking nice pictures. I am a DSLR guy and used to try to tote mine around whenever I could. However, now that camera phones have gotten so good I have been doing so less and less, just using my phone camera for the majority of my day to day shooting. The iPhone 5 camera was great for me. I used it all the time (for snapchat and Instagram) and loved the low light shooting characteristics.
The Nexus 6 camera was great. It was sharp and I loved that it shot video in 4k, making for great impromptu jam session with my brother. When the light was good the camera produced sharp and vibrant images. It was great for anything I wanted to snapchat or Instagram. and even candid’s that I wanted for later, which I what I usually use my phone camera for. However, lowlight shooting was awful. I couldn’t get lowlight images at all. Living in NYC there are streetlights everywhere, but even in that environment I was not able to get any good nighttime shots that are even useable for snapchat (for which I have very low critera). Even compared to my two year old iPhone, it was awful. The front facing camera was doubly bad. Everything that I took with the front facing 2mp camera was poorly exposed and very soft. There was no definition to the shots and it was very splotchy.
Having the same sensor (but without optical image stabilization) I was not holding out much hope for the One Plus One. However I was pleasantly surprised with its low light shooting capabilities. In places where the Nexus was just unable to get any kind of image (often producing just a black shot with different intensities of light) I was able to get useable shots with the One Plus. The front facing camera is ten times better than the Nexus 6 camera.
Battery Life:
Here is another place that the One Plus pulls away from the Nexus. The battery life on the One Plus is phenomenal. One reason I got rid of my old iphone was that the battery life was down to four hours. I was literally carrying around a charger with me wherever I went because it wouldn’t last half a day. Now the OPO will last me 1.5 days of regular use. For me regular use is about 3.5 hours of screen on time. I will last from 7 am until about noon the next day. This is amazing battery life. I never have to worry about it. With the Nexus I would get about 2.75 hours of screen on time. This translated to a day of use. If I unplugged my phone at 7 am, I would be at 5 percent battery around 10:30 pm. Normally this would be okay, unless I was going out with my friends at night and had to stay out past midnight (which I normally do on weekends). With turbo-charging this was largely a non-issue. However, psychologically I don’t really like plugging in my phone for fifteen minutes and then unplugging when the batter is not full. I hate the feeling that I am ruining the battery (even if that’s not how batteries work anymore…). Personally having a great battery like the One Plus One is a huge win and is one thing I don’t have to worry about. It makes my life less stressful (I understand that this is a side affect of being too dependent on technology and am working to fix this in myself, haha).
Conclusion:
All in all I liked the Nexus 6. It was a good “pocket internet device” however as something that I want to use every day, I was not in love with it. And thus, comes the OPO trump card. Its price. If I was in love with the Nexus I would have had no problem spending $771 on the phone. However, I was not in love with it, so paying that much for a phone I didn’t love was out of the question. Futhremore, the thought of paying more than double the price of the One Plus One ($361) which I liked better was Ludacris. So in the end it was an easy choice.
I tried to like the Nexus 6. I did love the screen and the experience I had while I was watching youtube. I love material design and lock screen notifications. I loved being able to talk to the phone (“OK Google”) when the screen was off. In the end, however, it fell short. The One Plus One is a great phone and I am smitten with it. It offers everything I want for a very low price and that is why I am keeping it.

I was stunned by the build quality and the size. I loved the curved edges of the screen and the resolution was amazing. I was okay with the size because it could still fit in my (skinny) jeans pockets, but I was not in love with it. I was originally gunning for the Cloud white, but couldn't get my hands on it. Got the Midnight Blue in 64 gig and ended up loving the color. I loved the color until I touched the back of the phone and realized that my fingerprints got everywhere. Seriously, this phone is a smudge magnet. However, since I am not a fan of cases, this was something I could live with.
Similarly opening the box of the One Plus One I was very impressed. The packaging was very nicely done. I know it does not have any impact on how the phone is used, but it is a very nice presentation that I appreciated none the less. The phone itself has very nice build quality. It does not have as many curves and subtleties as the Nexus, but I like the way it feels in my hand and equals the 6 in quality, even if it is a simpler design.
I used the Nexus 6 for three weeks and am on my sixth day with the One Plus. Here are my impressions of the devices after that period mainly focusing on what stands out during MY use of them.
Ergonomics:
As far as the feel of the Nexus 6 is concerned at first I was worried about how big it was. I was coming from a 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5 and was a bit scared about how it was going to work. After three weeks I was no longer worried about it. I have gotten used to it. However, I was not sold on the 6 inch screen. It was never 100 percent comfortable for me to use and I always had to use two hands. I have hands on the smaller size, but not freakishly small, however I was always scared to use it one handed, even just opening up my twitter feed and scrolling through gave pause because I was afraid to drop it and crack that beautiful screen. One thing that I found particularly difficult was texting. If I were in bed with the phone above my head, it was so hard to text because the screen was so wide. My fingers did not have enough range of motion to hold the phone in a secure way and also reach the outer edges of the screen to reach letters such as A or L, O and P. It was a weird experience that I remedied by installing the Swype keyboard app and condensed the keyboard to one side of the screen.
Using the One Plus One immediately felt more comfortable. It seems to fit my hand better and I am a huge fan of the “sandstone” texture of the back. I can use it more easily with one hand and am able to text using one hand as well.
Screen and Media Viewing Experience:
As for that Nexus 6 screen. What can I say. It is beautiful. The colors are great and its sharp as a tack. I loved watching videos on it and reading kindle books on it. It was noticeably sharper than the OPO's 1080p screen. It's not a day and night difference, and if the two weren't sitting next to each other on the table, I probably would not have noticed anything. But when the two phones are next to each other you can tell which one has a higher resolution display. I used the Nexus to watch a lot of youtube videos and loved the experience. With the front firing speakers, this was a great media consumption device. I loved being able to use this instead of my computer or tablet to watch videos and read books or news articles. Six inches was a great size to view everything on.
The One Plus One also has a great screen. The colors are accurate and it is very pleasing to look at. I can watch youtube videos here also, however the overall experience is not as nice because the speakers are not forward firing. Though they have great volume, the speakers are not as good to use as the Nexus simply because of their orientation. With this phone I am more predisposed to watch videos on my tablet or TV. Reading is a very similar experience and I have no problem reading for more than an hour on either device.
Usability:
This section is where the One Plus really starts to pull away. I have both the Note 4 and just received the S6 Edge this morning. The Note 4 is being sold. No regrets. After using the Edge since this morning the Note 4 feels very cheap. Also the Note 4 (Verizon) feels so sluggish and laggy versus the zippy S6.

Please report if the cellular standby battery drain issue is present in the verizon edge. Also does the phone properly deep sleep?

Totally agree with the zippy part of this post. I just can't seem to deal with the smaller screen I guess.

I had the Note 4, Note Edge and now o have the S6 Edge. They are all great phones but the S6 Edge feels so much superior in every way. Speed, overall quality of the phone and the camera is just killer. When you compare the displays of all these phones the S6 Edge display it's just om another level.

After playing with it since charging it this afternoon, cell standby is my biggest battery user at 15% :/

You probably need to close all the useless apps and disable them before getting a better indication of battery. Unless you have already done so, and I'm just tripping. It's really a shame that Samsung shoved more bloatware into the device than stuffing into a Thanksgiving turkey.

having a Note 3 with a Note 4 based ROM on it i was sure about the Edge for about the first 24 hours then it just hit me that there is no way i will go back and that "maybe" my big screen philosophy was wrong.
i was not a pen user so that didnt really matter to me. i did have concerns about storage but not battery as i have external packs i rarely ever need.
i also have not used a case for years but i did order THIS Spigen case and thats when it all came together. that case was exactly the security in holding it and ease of picking it up that i was looking for and now i am VERY satisfied with it.
yesterday i needed to fire up my Note 3 (same size as 4) and it felt huge. i knew i could go back and get used to it but now i like the smaller form factor better again.
there are some issue like cell standby that i hope get addressed but the fact that many of the main reasons i root like rows and columns and themes have been addressed i am as happy with this purchase as about any phone before it.

I don't have my Galaxy S6 Edge yet, but I do have a Note Edge right now. I went from the Note 2, to the Note 3, to the Note Edge to be exact so I have had the larger screen, S-Pen, and huge battery for a long time now. In that time, I have really grown to enjoy these phones. When I agreed to upgrade to the Galaxy S6 Edge, I was hesitant at first. I have a friend who works for Verizon business who let me play with his phone for about 40 minutes and I was hooked. This thing was simply awesome. You are right, the S6 Edge doesn't have an S-Pen, the screen is smaller, and the battery life isn't as good. On the plus side, you have superior construction, a faster processor, better camera, wireless charging, and so on.
I am not saying that the S6 Edge is better in every way. What I am saying is that there are pluses and minuses and you have to decide which way you want to go. There is no right or wrong answer here. The only opinion that matters is what you think and if you want to go with a Note 4, then go for it. I can tell you right now that I believe I am going to miss some of the Note features such as the bigger battery and screen when I get my S6 Edge. At the same time though, after having large phablets for the last few years, I am eager to try something new and smaller.

There's a lot of new going on under the hood for both models. UFS 2 is huge. HUGE! I don't know why this isn't getting more hype, especially since so many are grumbling about the lack of a micro SD card slot. What an easy way to get people to shut up about it... explain the science of UFS 2, and have a video demonstration on how it improves everything day to day. DDR4 is also awesome, but will likely be on every model next year. I really think/see the edge as just better. I really like how video looks on it (floating effect) and how text scrolls up and down when in horizontal orientation. Swiping also feels great. It's just physically better. I could care less about that physicality bringing new useless features.
The S6 Edge to me, is nearly perfect for our current world. We are plateauing a bit in terms of cell phone functionality... now it's time to introduce new design elements, and Samsung nailed it.

Im of a similar mind I think ill return my edge and get the regular s6 Id take the storage over the screen which aesthetically pleasing it really has no value to "me"

I think I was leaning very heavy to do the regular s6 vs the s6 Edge, especially for the storage. But the one thing that made me go for the S6 Edge was that every other Samsung I have owned (which is a lot, Note 2/3/4 & S2/S3) have all looked like the S6 Edge. Sure the material is nicer, but it's a marginal upgrade from the Note 4.
I think the S6 Edge was so bold and it looks awesome. Will it provide functional use? No, probably not. But it doesn't hurt that I got $100 off from trading in a device and it ended up being the same price as the S6. Even without the trade in, I'm happy with the choice. It looks and feels nice in the hand, aside from being a spec monster, I'll pay a premium for looks.... within reason.

OnePlus 5 Appreciation Thread

With all this hate around OnePlus 5 (jelly-gate (mine has none altough jelly-boys say I am scrolling it wrong ->here's my video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdmDZm-8K8E&t=1s), wifi drops, faked benchmarks, iphone clone, no ois..) I wanted to post my own thoughts and findings regarding OnePlus 5 and why I find it currently to be best phone for the money. I have been a “phone-whore”* ever since Galaxy S6 and I have finally found the one I like the most, taking into account that every phone, OS has its flaws and there’s no perfect phone.
I certainly qualify as a phone whore since in last 3-4 years I’ve had 8 different phones – Nexus 6P, Sony Xperia Z3, Galaxy S6, Xiaomi Mi5, Iphone 7 plus, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, Galaxy S8 (2-3 week testing period, therefore I don’t count it as part of “8”) and now OnePlus 5. Here's the list of things I find to be the most crucial for me when deciding on a new phone/ or whether I should stay on the one I have -> 1. Fluid performance, which includes bloatware free OS with actually useful features like Gestures, which the OOS has), 2. Lightweight with screen size of ~5.5", 3. DT2W, 4. Dedicated Capacitive buttons (back and recents), 5. Above avg battery life, 6. Support.
So here are my main takeaways considering its price and place in the market:
1. Cheapest Snapdragon 835 equipped phone in the market;
2. Decent camera which has its flaws but is still very capable of taking awesome shots;
3. Equipped with probably lightest android based OS – OOS, which is full of neat features such as DT2W, DT2S, gestures, button customizations and so on;
4. Great support with timely updates – I haven’t had a android phone which is updated almost as fast as google based phones (Pixel, Nexus);
5. Dash charging is best in the market;
6. Great fluid performance throughout with no lag;
7. Very comfortable for 5.5" phone (only flaw that its super-slippery!) and although the back cover is copy-pasted iPhone 7 plus, I find it much more comfortable to hold and operate in one hand. iPhone 7 plus is a bulky as hell and impossible to operate in one hand even if you have MKBHD type of hands;
8. Lightest 5.5 inch phone in the market at just 153gramms <- this one is actually very crucial for me, since I wear a suit 5/7 days a week and larger phones like iPhone 7 plus, because of its bulk and weight, changes the complexion of the suit jacket and how it sits on you, so to say .. it might sound funny, but its true With OP5 I don’t feel like I am carrying ½ ipad in my jackets pocket;
9. Great battery life for 5.5” screen (~5-6hours of SOT on stock kernel in mixed usage (whatsapp, youtube, chrome, Spotify, bt and sync always ON and location ON with waze), mainly because they are sticking to 1080p, which is more than enough for such screen size.
10. True Premium feel - its a rare feature. I would say that of all phone I have had only few that actually had premium feel - problably all iphones, xperia z3 and none of the galaxies which all feel plastic to me.
With all that said, in my honest opinion, I find OP5 to be the best phone to spend 499 EUR – 559 EUR on, but it ain't perfect.

Agreed with most of it, but not sure of 'smooth' performance. While it seems smooth in almost all tasks, turning on GPU profiling from Developer options do show lots of frame drops all over. Check my other thread on this issue.

The Xiaomi Mi6 is probably the cheapest Snapdragon 835 phone on the market. For the rest I agree with you

For me, its the cheapest sd 835 based phone, since I cant get mi6 for the retail price because of local VAT being added when imported into LV + custom tax is being applied. Cant comment on the gpu/frame drop issue..
Addded one more point that I find crucial..
10. True Premium feel - its a rare feature. I would say that of all phones I have had only few actually had premium feel - problably all iphones (especially before No 6), xperia z3, 6P and none of the galaxies which all feel plastic to me.

Hi, if you are from Latvia you can find stock of Mi 6 in Europe without customs, the VAT being inside Europe doesn't matter. Look at https://www.kimovil.com Search for Mi 6, 418 € 64 Gb, 487 € 128 Gb continental stock. For example the unlocked S8 dual sim now cost 570 € in Europe continental stock in global central, etc.

To be honest I am ever going to buy xiaomi phone. When I bought mi5 (with all taxes and shipping I paid about 500eur for it) I was quitte dissapointed when I actually got it - i felt a bit cheated since the build quality was one of the worse I have expierienced (maybe the ceramic one was better) - very plastic and easy to get scratches all over the place. Actually I thought this would be my last true china phone, but oneplus 3 made me a believer again - i was stunned actually that a phone (op3) so cheap felt so premium in hand build quality wise and OP5 continues in the same direction and although its super-slippery I have decided to use it without a case just because I love how it feels in hand and I dont want to hide this beast in a case. IMO, they shaved, if i can say so, OP3T design and made it rounder/slimmer although in mm the difference is not that huge.
And so what if its an iphone clone..iphone is in a league of its own in respect of design and if someone like OP takes their design and improves on it (takes away the bulk, the weight and makes it (5.5" size phone) very usable in one hand) I say take my money my chinese brothaaas

The oneplus 5 is my 24th or 25th phone in the past 3 years and I have to agree with the OP on this one. All things considered bang for buck. It doesn't get any better on this side of the pond. ?

Only thing i didn't like is that I can't use any 3d party camera app to take raw pictures as they all comes back with a pink tint.
Other then this, I'm pretty happy with the phone.

what i was feeling to share about 1+5 is beautifully shared by you my friend...i purchased first one plus mobile just waiting for dual camera launch by one plus earlier i was fan of Mi product whatever launched in INDIA but recently they decided for mid and lower price launch in indian market so i said bye to them but still i am fan of MIUI interface....

Lol. I usually have 2 phones simultaneously and I have a phew repeats. The s7 edge (thanks to the note 7) the pixel and pixel xl, the iPhone 6s/plus, 7 /+, the note 5 {32gb/64gb) the note 7 while we're at it. My iron man is my 2nd s7 edge for four months and my minute man is the LG G6 which lasted two days. Coming up next are the essential, the note 8,the iPhone 8 and the Pixel 2. Yeah man I'm a phone junky for real. ?

Same here. I am always eager to test out new phones, so if I stick with something its gotta be close to perfect and it started with OP3T (the "max 3 month and the get a newever one" spell was broken . :laugh. I don't think I'll ever go back to an iphone though unless its something uber-revolutionary, since no matter what they do I find iOS to be very limiting and only good on iPads where all you do is watch movies and browse mail/internet. I need those dedicated capacitive buttons for recents and back, I need that freedom with customisation, attachments, transfers and so on, and that one button thing no matter the overall somewhat smooth operation seems like a slowed down expierence no matter how used to it I eventually get. I quite easily ditched my iPhone 7 plus because of its weight and bulk..

You're preaching to the quire brother. My longest stint with the iPhone since I left iOS and my iPhone 4 behind, was 10 days with the iPhone 7 plus and shortest was 2 days with the iPhone 7, the LG G6 beat it out by like half a day. Lol. I just buy whatever is new and premium regardless of iOS and Android. I don't particularly like iOS but I'm not one to talk out the side of my mouth so I have to be able to tell the fan boys/girls at work why their iPhone sucks ??

To stay on topic though, I love the one plus. It made me notice the subtle lag in my s8 plus as I go back and forth. Oneplus 5 is my week phone paired with my Huawei watch and I rock my s8+ and gear s3 on the weekend. When I take more pictures. Which is just about the only thing that the s8 has got on the OP5.

You keep your phone pristine, and you save some money & so when your sell your phone & your 200 saved and your upgrading. You can save 200 in 6 months right?

Ok, so after a couple of weeks of using OP5 not much has changed. I stand by the points I have made and have grown accustomed using this phone even without a case. I simply like its design and premium feel too much for it to be cased although my back-ordered Karbon protective case came 1 week after I got the phone. I will cope with the consequences if it do falls, but as I said already – IMO, the copy paste design (back) is made so awesomely (thinner and lighter) that it simply must be displayed around Although sometimes camera shots need to be retaken to get that perfect shot, I find portrait mode to be at better state than it was on my iPhone 7 plus at the launch. There's room to improve but I already like what I get out of the camera a lot.
My OP5 has been running great on FreedomOS 1.X [7.1.1][OOS][[STABLE][SAFETYNET ✓] with default kernel (avg. SOT 6h-8h more hours is in those sessions where there’s a lot of youtube playback..usage pattern -> chrome, whatsapp, gmail, bt audio (spotify through bt to bt headphones), waze with Sync, BT Always ON and Location only when using Waze)). I find FreedomOS to be the best custom rom as it’s the closest to stock, but then again it (1) allows you debloat as much as you wish, (2) it has built in Viper4Arise and (3) AdAway. Must have for me is also [v4.1] Ozone - A substratum module for OOS for center clock and other neat visual details.

I purchased a OnePlus 5 on swappa. Almost didn't because of what some were saying about it. Glad I did. But still have a Galaxy S8. Have to sell one, but can't decide which one. The op5 has better Bluetooth, WiFi, and cellular, signal. But I work outside, and the S8 gets brighter, and has water resistant. Didn't expect the decision to be so hard. There are things that I really like about both. Maybe list them both, and see which sells 1st. ?

Complex devices with multiple feature sets (phone, camera, computer, GPS, physical, low cost, etc.) necessarily have inherent compromises. Add to that the diverse set of needs and priorities from a potentially massive customer base. The result is a product that can't possibly be perfect for all users and all uses, no matter the price point. I'm quite happy with the choices, tradeoffs and compromises that OnePlus made.
About the only feature I miss on the OP5 is the rubbery back surface on the Nexus 5 that it's replacing. The OP5's back, while it may look nice, is almost as slippery as an eel. If I believed in conspiracy theories I'd speculate that they did it intentionally to maximize the number of new OP5 phones they can sell to replace dropped ones

Yes this is great phone i already using it great company

So far I have to say this phone is on its way to becoming the New GOAT. Build quality is stellar, i don't mind the camera bump, small sacrifice for a better shooter. Plus I always rest my finger against it. But that being said, it's pretty much the perfect phone IMO.
The display, the smoothness, the cameras. If I can get 6h + SOT on top of that it'll definitely become my GOAT Samsung phone. Dethroning the Note 7 who dethroned the Galaxy S4 Google play edition but I digress.
I don't see myself moving to another phone any time soon.

Initial thoughts after final setup:
Going from a A20 ultra to a Note 20 ultra, I think this phone just looks and might even perform better. The feel in the hand, the fingerprint reader, everything seems to run smoother. I'm loving it so far.
My main concern is the battery life with heavy use. I've tweaked the settings a bit, so I guess I will have a better idea after a few days of use. But so far so good! :good:

I just received and configured my Note 20 Ultra. It's so similiar to Note 10+ but faster. Software looks almost the same. I already have 1 software update with security patch from 1st of August
edit: what is annoying is that pen is from the other side it's inconviniet if you are using right hand to operate and hold your phon in your left hand

It's an incredible phone. So much smaller than my first mobile phone 35 years ago. How far we have come since Palm first put a PDA and mobile into the same unit. Luv, Luv, Luv.
PS. The Beans are wonderful. So nice to not have a bud sticking into my ear canal.
PPS. Now I have to wait all over again for my Tab S7+.

Lol, I remember those. My first phone was a brick phone with a battery that lasted an hour if you were lucky, and a hand calculator sized screen. Times have changed indeed. It's amazing.

I have waited on the Note series for a while. What finally took my commitment was finding out the s pen is on the left. As a lefty, this is the most convenient placement I can imagine.
Anticipate that the placement will change back to the right in the next iteration after feedback from rightys.

If the s-pen was on the right, it would be perfect. Fingerprint scanner is brilliant now, screen is unreal, battery life is phenomenal, speed is beyond belief... Perfection. Good luck topping this, Samsung

Love this phone! It's definitely my favorite phone ever. It just barely beats my love for the OnePlus 8 Pro. I like the form factor of this phone better with less display curves. Plus all the tons of software features. However the colors and brightness on the OnePlus 8 Pro are better.

Can you elaborate further on the brightness? Everything I've read says the Note 20 Ultra has a brighter screen than the OnePlus 8 Pro, and the rated nits value is quite a bit higher. It might only go up to highest brightness in adaptive mode and being outside? IDK, but you're the first person I've seen say this.

This is the best way I have of describing my N20U screen brightness.
On a no cloud sunny day, I can take my phone out and see the screen perfectly. No more having to turn to use my body for shade and my hand to see the screen.
I am 69 with mild Adult onset Macular Degeneration. This phone is fantastic for me with auto brightness enabled.

Couldn't agree more. After owning note 2,3,4,7,8, and 9 with the pen on the right it will take some getting used to.
Battery life is also a bit meh coming from a Poco F2 Pro but it's good enough to get me to the end of the day so I can live with it.
Apart from those two factors I love this thing. Even at 60hz the screen is very bright and vibrant. It's very responsive, plenty quick enough for day to day tasks, and I've got the inferior Exynos model since that's all my country gets.
Camera is also beast. Low light isn't quite as good as my P30 Pro but it's still pretty impressive compared to a lot of smart phones out there. One thing it does have over the p30 is that it's much faster to grab focus so much better for quick snaps.

I've had Note 1, Note 3, S7, S10+ and now N20U from HK with Snapdragon. I've only had it two days, but I'm very happy with the phone. Big £ savings vs UK Exynos are icing and a cherry on top of the cake.

Having pre ordered the phone and having used Notes 3,4,7, 8 and now the 20 Utra 5G with 512gb internal storage; I wanted to wait to make a judgement call but I can say while there are things I like about the phone, I don't think it is what I expected and I am done with Samsung products.
I mean they have tried un-successfully to get rid of the micro sd card slot so then they go after the head phone jack. They skimp on the 120Hz display at full resolution. I mean there are a number of things for a flag ship $1549 phone that just say crap. I was interested in a watch and a tab s7 also. but that isn't going to happen.

I've owned a number of Samsung devices in the past, including Notes 8 and 9 as well as an S10e provided by my company. The Note 9 is, to me, an icon and the last no holds barred, everything but the kitchen sink, no compromises, Note. I do a lot of mobile photography and have always gravitated toward devices that had impressive camera/audio/video capabilities as well as feature-filled in other areas. I wanted to get my hands on the Note 20 Ultra but wasn't willing to relinquish my still pristine Note 9 for the pre-order trade in discount. So I waited for the software problems to get sorted out and the prices to come down. I regularly scanned the Offer Up and Swappa websites until I was able to a factory unlocked 512GB model from a good seller at a great price. This device is a juggernaut of power, form, function, features and fun. I found it not to be too much larger than my Note 9 which fits oh so nicely in hand in its Caseoloy Paraxell case. The camera and video set up is a mobile photographer's dream. I've utilized Google Pixel software apks (GCam) on all of my devices going back to my LG V20 and the stock cameras work so well that I have found no need to port one this time out. This is just overall a top notch piece of tech that does so many things and does them well. It is a quality, powerful, feature-filled piece of technology that will fulfill your needs, whether it's mobile photography, work productivity or content consumption/creation and everything in between. I'm glad I added it to my lineup.

Hardware is great ! With a few greed related exceptions, ( Like Non-Removable Battery, No Audio Port,etc... ) Scamsung's Locked Bluetooth codec really burns my ars !
It could Do/Be so much more/better if they would just fix the Hardware/Firmware lockdown BS.
Coming from a Rooted Note3, this is a really bad experience trying to do anything with this thing, Nothing works without agreeing to some sort of sketchy user agreement. No one is making any usable apps any more, Most of the Best Developers have quit bothering with Android. Even simple widgets don't even work anymore
I DO NOT OWN this over priced phone, They Do ! And they do/steal what ever they want to/from it !
They forced Assdroid 11 in the middle of the night with a corrupt image, I was forced to send it back to them to get it re-flashed. Now None of the apps I was using on version 10 will work on ver. 11.
I will NEVER buy another assdroid, scamsung again. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.
Sad that almost all the hardware/software makers are using these creepy/greedy tactics to spy,steal & dictate what you should do. No other choices out there any more ...
