I cannot and will not be held responsible for anything that may happen due to you following this guide. You are directly
responsible for anything that you instruct your device to do. By following this guide, you accept full and complete
responsibility for whatever the outcome is.
After much trial and error, this guide should help those of you stuck on stock ML2 get to running ROMs through SafeStrap 3.71
Before anything, a thanks goes to spegelius and Devo7v for helping with the much needed files. Without them, I would not
have gotten this far.
Requirements:
* You need to be on 4.3 ML2 as your stock firmware
* You need to be rooted. If you are not, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690133
* You will need to have SafeStrap 3.71 installed. Check here: http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jflteatt-active/safestrap
**Verify that you are using the SHG-i537 BEFORE installing anything**
Once you have that done, boot into recovery and create a new ROM slot.
It will take a few minutes for the slot to create and setup.
Once it has setup, grab your favorite TW ROM and flash 'er to the slot. (I used HyperDrive)
Now, flash the ML2 modules, followed by the MF5 camera prop archive.
Now flash the GPIO keys archive.
Clear the dalvik and cache, and reboot.
This should give you hardware keys, wifi, bluetooth, NFC, and Camera.
I know this is not the most comprehensive guide out there, but it should be enough to get you up and running.
is necessary to flash the compatibility pack on hyperdroid ? , is the stock camera working with any rom?
thanks for the guide im new here and i was a little bit lost with the rom flashing

If you plan on using the device with AT&T, the compat pack is a must. And as far as I have tested, no the stock camera does not work.

If you want it so bad then why don't you try to make it happen?
Since there is root, it shouldn't be impossible to start by dumping partitions and share them to make it available for whoever want's to take a look at it.

I have a G730A and I want CyanogenMod 10.2. I am willing to help develop and test. I have very basic programming skills, and some Linux skills (currently do not have Linux installed though). If I am told what to do I can research how to do it and get it done. I just need instructions.
And if having linux is going to make it way easier, I can install it. I prefer Ubuntu but I can work with Fedora.
Ok guys. I have come up with a method to install 4.4.2 international and T-Mobile ROMs without ADB.
I am using some stuff from @drakeymcmb and @Hashcode
I however need some help.
I will not be doing a tutorial yet because this is not complete.
I used EchoeROM from the International section. It boots and runs fine for the most part.
Bugs I can't figure out how to fix but have ideas for based on fixes from the AT&T S4.
Wi-Fi will not turn on. (I will need @Hashcode to help with that.)
Using the ATT PTA apns works, but is shoddy with LTE.
I ran into one random reboot when opening messaging. Didn't happen after it booted up again.
If you guys could give me a hand. I and the community would love you.
THIS IS NOT AND MAY NEVER BE A FINAL METHOD. DO NOT ASK FOR ETA's. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THIS IS ONLY A PROOF OF CONCEPT.

It involves a combo of Odin and safe strap. Basically the exact process for XRom and Knoxraid. I have not seen any posts or topics about it.so I am fairly confident that we can work together to get more ROMs on our device.

OK guys. Waking up first then gathering all the files/links together for this install method for my one and only tester. I need more testers though. If you are willing to put this install method to the test, please PM me.
This is a warning. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE. If you choose to be a tester, that is all on you. Make sure you have a full backup of both your internal and external SD cards somewhere on your computer. I again am not responsible if you lose important data. Make sure that you do this now while I prepare to put this out for testers and testers only.
Right now, you should also download an International 4.4.2 ROM that does not use Aroma for install. I used the EchoeRom for my test.
I would like anyone that wants to test for me to be ready so that we can speed up this process.
Sent from my Nexus 7 2013 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Files are almost ready for distro. I ran into a problem while testing so I need to extract some stuff from KnoxRaid and build a flashable zip file to be used in SS and package it with the files I will have the testers download. I also realized that you will wipe the internal SD card so MAKE A BACKUP. Any files to be flashed via Safestrap need to be on the External SD.

I just cannot get Wifi or NFC to turn on... I have tried building an update package to flash with SS, but it doesn't help... I am going to try a few more things and test some more. I know you guys want this, but I want it working on my end before I start sending it out.
Did you get it to work?
I can only get the ROM to boot...
NFC and wifi will not turn on. I have tried multiple different routes to get them functional, but to no avail. I'm gonna take a break for a bit. Clear my mind and try again. I need a package to fix those and to help save time with setup a package to flash the correct LTE APNs to the phone so users don't have to input them manually.

In order to root the firmware version you are on (NH3), you have to use this method. Please make sure that you download the files for US (AT&T) Galaxy S4 Active (SGH-I537).

Install SuperSU from chainfire on the play store, open it once it's installed run it and follow the prompts, try to select the option to install the binaries or whatever while the phone is running and select the option that you are NOT on any sort of custom recovery. You can use SafeStrap to make nandroid backups which is what I believe you were asking, but as far as ClockWorkMod, I think it bears repeating:
You have a locked bootloader. There is no way around this, no ifs ands or buts. You simply cannot flash custom ROMs or recoveries. That's it, end of story as far as CM, CWM, AOSP and such things are concerned. That being said there is a sort of recovery called SafeStrap which you can use to make nandroid backups, flash mods and STOCK-BASED roms, but it's not a true custom recovery in the sense that we had been used to, because of this locked bootloader nightmare.
Was hesitant on several other methods I've read over the past day after Towelroot V3 didn't work initially. I followed this step by step and it worked flawless for me on my SGH-I537 KK 4.4.2 NH3. Took about 20 mins being carefull.
Does anyone know what's the latest and simplest method to unroot the device so OTA updates can be downloaded? If odining back to stock firmware can be avoided that'd be great. I'm trying to get rid of some annoying issues on my current build. Thanks.

Also i hear it is not wise, possible to flash with a previous version than my current phone which is G925AUCU2AOF4 - i hope i and others don't have to wait too long.

I've never had any hiccups rooting any galaxy always choosing chainfire method .
Just picked up s6 and updated to 5.1.1
As I'm looking around posts it's not telling me a lot about root options without any issues ..I see more about issues on 5.1.1 camera issues etc...after root and having to flash boot.bin ?
What is the current safest method to root the 5.1.1 update ,Is it still using chainfire 5.0.2 root
Last thing I want is problems .
A link and quick rundown would be awesome
Like i mentioned I've never felt the need ever to ask about rooting any galaxy s4 S5 etc.... except this time seems necessary

I thought that method only gives you a temp root as it causes issues with calling and/or wifi, so you use it just to unlock then revert back to gain functionality?

The first method jeffrelyn_ posted is what you need if you don't care about Knox. Issues with calling were only when the method was first created, but has been patched for a while now so no issues, and it is a permanent root
The engineering bootloader is the only method that has a problem because the fingerprint reader does not function

Alright, if you don't care about KNOX:
Get the correct version of TWRP for your device. Flash using ODIN. Might as well flash the latest bootloader and modem if you haven't done so already (flash entire firmware package if you can't find the modem/bootloader only).
Now, grab the latest Unikernel from the Unified Development forum. Flash using ODIN/TWRP, your choice (pick the right one!).
Download SuperSU from the Play Store. ??? Profit!
