[Q] Problem with usb connection - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I also post it in p600 Q&A if there isn't a problem.I'm trying to connect a tablet(note 10.1 2014) to pc but nothing happens.I tried reinstall the usb drivers from Samsung but can't do this either.I get a message "The mobile phone is in use. To install normally, you need to remove the device and restart the computer. Please run the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones installer again after restarting.".I had a gt9000i installed long time ago so my guess is the problem start from there(now i run it with custom rom).I tried uninstall the drivers and do a fresh install with a newer version but i get the message again.I delete all Samsung files from computer manually, also the registry keys with regedit(maybe i miss some files) and run a registry clean with tuneup but nothing...i want to mention that in my girlfriend's laptop everything is ok.I google the problem and try everything other people suggest doing.Do you have an idea how i solve this without reinstalling windows as this is a no so easy choise for me?...And last in devices i saw the gt9000i.How can i remove this like it was never ever pluged in this computer?Thanx in advance...
PS.I use windows 7 64 bit ultimate

Samsung Captivate Driver Issues (64-bit Win7)

I used to be able to put my Captivate in USB debugging mode and enable usb storage and move files perfectly. Now that I think about it the last time I did this was before I upgraded the Captivate to Android 2.2. So, I think something happened after upgrading now when I plug my Captivate I get a driver error and it says Code 43. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, but don't think it helped I even tried installing from Kies Mini. I am not really sure what to do here. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I really need to transfer some files from Captivate to PC and vice versa asap.
Thanks,
Mo
You should be able to transfer files without drivers installed.

When I plug it in it says Driver Device Software was not successfully installed. and Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
then USB Device not recognized pops up.
When I go to my computer there is nothing showing my device so how would I begin to transfer files via USB??
Sorry but am still somewhat new to driver issues and android
Not sure, sounds like your computer. Updating the rom won't cause usb errors.
Do you have wireless connection? If so, download FileZilla or some other ftp client to your computer. Then go to the market and download OnAir or some file server. Then you can use the wireless to ftp files back and forth.
That is until you figure out you computer usb troubles.
Yea I'm in the processs of transferring the files via bluetooth, but any advice or at least a place to start for fixing the usb problems. I honestly have had no problems since updating to 2.2 and cannot think of any changes I have made to the computer either
bump can anyone help?
I wish someone would step in here as I am having the exact problem - Win 7 - 64 Pro. All of a sudden the desktop PC has stopped recognizing the Samsung Captivate. It wasn't always this way and I cannot figure what may have changed on the desktop to cause this (except for MSFT updates of course).
win7
BUMP. I just used my home computer (windows xp) and reset my captivate, then rooted and flashed Andromeda. this is the first time i flashed a rom and everything, but everything went smoothly and I would like to try out other roms, but I am only home for 4 months out of the year
I USUALLY have my 64 bit Win 7 laptop, but it is still not recognizing my Captivate. I still cannot even mount it. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated. I tried reinstalling captivate x64 drivers and tried samsung kies mini but no luck. can someone troubleshoot me or send me a step by step walkthrough. I am getting the same errors I have had earlier and like BillMc it wasn't always this way.
BUMP. I got the same issue and it is driving me nuts. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Open Device Manager, plug in your phone, and see what new devices pop up when you plug it in. Then uninstall all "devices" related to the Captivate.
Then unplug your phone and reinstall the captivate drivers pack. Then plug your phone back in and see if your computer sorts out the drivers correctly.
This fixed my issues. Try it.

Well, my problem is that my phone won't recognize any computer as a computer, but only as a source for battery charging. when i plug it into a computer the battery starts charging but i don't get the USB sign.
the thing is that it used to work. i usually just pluged the phone in and it would work, and suddenly out of the blue it stopped working and i have no idea why. i've done nothing on the computer between the last time it worked and the time it stopped working, i wasn't even using the computer during that time, so it must be something on the phone settings, but i checked it a little and found nothing that looks like the problem, but i rly don't understand much about it..
any ideas?
It sounds like a driver issue.
If you're using a Samsung firmware, reinstall the drivers. This can be done by finding them online, or by installing Kies. If you're using CM7/Miui, Samsung drivers won't work. You'll need to uninstall Kies (or kill the process to make sure it's not running in Task Manager) and then install the Nexus S drivers. Again, a simple search will provide the files you need.
If it's not a driver issue, I really don't know what it could be. But I would definitely try reinstalling the appropriate drivers first.
Go to Settings>Applications>Development and if USB debbugging is flagged, deflag it!

Try to reinstall Kies or one of the steps that I've read here:
http://www.androidgalaxys.net/suite...problemi-connessione-collegamento-usb-galaxy/
Translated:
Make sure you have installed the latest version of Kies (currently 2.0.1).
For owners of Windows Vista / Seven Kies launch in admin mode
Connect your phone to your PC using the default launcher from Samsung (TouchWiz). Alternative launcher may not be recognized by Kies. Close any programs in the background on your phone and PC.
Make sure that in Settings> Wireless and Networking> USB Settings is selected Samsung Kies or Ask the connection.
If you already selected, try to choose any item and then set one of the two mentioned.
Try using another USB port on PC. Not all USB ports may be able to deliver the power needed to power the device.
Restart both the phone and your PC.
Try reinstalling the drivers of the Galaxy. To do this open Kies, go to the Tools menu and then install drivers.
Try using another USB cable.
ok, I tried everything but switching cable coz i know it works...
here's the weird thing: I tried connecting my phone to 3 different computers, 1 worked and the other 2 (including mine) didn't work.
the thing is that the other computer that didn't work and the computer that did work never touched a Samsung before, so basicaly i have no idea what would make one of them work and the other not to work.
I'm really confused.
Try going into device manager and see if there are any devices flagged with '!'
If not, find your samsung device from device manager, and uninstall it and delete all drivers, then reinstall them.
Try that. It may just be a windows issue, I've had similar problems before but not even with a phone, but a flash drive.
well, tonight the computer restarted itself because of some updates, now it seems to magicaly work, even though i restarted it before.
i have no idea y it suddenly started working, but i can only hope it wouldn't happen again.
thank you all, you guys are great!

I857 copy to/from PC is broken

Hi Guys,
can someone please help
All of a sudden, I connect the tab to the PC and it makes the connection.
But I can't copy files back and forth, it just acts like it's going to copy but nothing happens.
I tried myphoneexplorer and that works fine, but over wifi.
I've naturally rebooted both PC and tablet.
Any ideas? I'm just running the stock ROM but it's rooted.
Thanks
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
of course it's a driver problem, goddam these drivers, it never ends with this crap.
OK so I installed the samsung drivers on another computer and tried with the tab, it works fine.
Can you please jog my memory, I have a nexus s and a i957, do they use the same driver? can I just uninstall this driver and reinstall it? the last thing I want is for my nexus s's connection to the pc to break.
thanks

[Q] Issues instaling drivers in USB debug mode (winxp), can anyone help?

This is partially a Windows support issue, but hopefully someone here has had a similar experience or at least got some good ideas how i can troubleshoot this...
When i plug my Note on my machine if i got USB debugging enabled, Windows starts installing the drivers, but then the device installation thingy freezes (i've tried both just letting it do it's thing automaticly and the add hardware thingy from the control panel, same results), i can't even start the add hardware thingy afterwards (it complains some hardware is still being installed and it can't install more than one at once), Windows won't shutdown afterwards; and if it is plugged with the computer off or remains plugged when rebooting Windows won't finish booting, even if i try to boot in safe mode (but if it isn't plugged while Windows loads the boot goes just fine).
The pc is running WinXP 32bits SP3 (in brazilian portuguese if that matters), and the Note still got the factory's Gingerbread UBKK3 (not rooted yet). Feel free to ask for any additional information you believe i can provide that could help you help me figure this out.
Any ideas how i can figure out what is going wrong here?
ps:before anyone suggests it, no, reformatting the PC is not somthing i'd be willing to consider at the moment; and unless there is no drivers avaiable for WinXP i definitly don't wanna downgrade to 7, much less Vista.
1. have u installed samsung kies. if not try it
or
2. Check this http://liamcrayden.blogspot.in/2012/03/galaxy-note-adb-drivers-without-samsung.html?m=1link

Kies is installed and works just fine; do i need to install that stuff from that blog? Can i even trust that site to not sneak malwares inside the drivers or the executable? (no offense intended, i'm just not used to installing thirdparty drivers from sites that don't appear that big)

If Kies is installed and up to date then you don't need any further drivers.
Might be worth un installing Kies and samsung usb drivers, reboot, download Kies again and install, reboot. Make sure you're connecting the phone in the rear (motherboard) usb ports and see how it works from there.
Is it just the phone that causes this issue, or other usb devices also?

I already tried uninstalling and reinstaling Kies as well as the "devices" that get installed when i plug the note; things still go screwy if i try plugging my Note with USB debugging mode activated.
Perhaps i'm not explaining this right. What i call "installing drivers" is what windows does when you plug a new device; i'm not talking about just having the files avaiable, but actually setting things up to use the device.
Btw, it seems Windows doesn't recognize the Note as the same device with and without the USB debug mode, it installs more than one of some of the "virtual" devices; i noticed it 'cause it installs a "Samsung Mobile USB Modem #2" after i try to plug the device both with the USB debug mode disabled, and with it enabled (had to do that trick to show unplugged devices to actually see both the plain USB Modem and the USB Modem #2 at the same time, but the fact there was a #2 being installed clued me it had another one it still counted as being present)
A small update: I might've found a lead on what is going on; according to Wikipedia
Noting that the latest (as of 2012/09/02) driver version Samsung Android ADB driver 2.9.503.726 is broken (blue screen), and once installed fails to recognise Samsung devices ('Manufacturer Hardware ID missing'). This is supplied as part of Kies.

I don't get BSOD's, but that is precisely the version of the ADB driver that gets installed for me.
Nope, that wasn't it
I tried the drivers from that blog, and even though they are a different version things still go bad if i plug the Note in USB debug mode

I can't say exactly what the problem is, but had you seen that Gingerbread has USB options in 3 different places in the Settings menus?
- Location and Security, Disable USB debugging mode;
- Applications , USB Debugging;
- Wireless and network, USB utilities, Connect storage to PC (button).
I found you have to play around with those to get the connection working properly. I also found it's not a good idea to try to use Kies and Samsung drivers together on one PC. There's quite a lot about these issues on this thread and links therefrom. Hope this helps.
i got an issue regarding Usb mode too @@
recently i upgrade Note to blackCNA v2.1 and i can't "turn on usb" neither "turn off usb". when i stick Note to the computer, it's showed as "portable media player".
i've tried installing and uninstalling then reinstalling everything, from Kies to samsung usb driver, then reboot, then do it in another laptops, but it doesn't work @@
what can i do to fix it now @@

Do i need to uninstall Kies, or just kill all Kies* processes before plugging it in? (i think i already tried both, i'm not gonna try again unnecessarily 'cause when it freezes the driver installation thingy, Windows won't shutdown (it freezes after a while before finishing the process) and i'm forced to go for the physical power switch; i already had some bad experiences with HDDs developing an increased amount of bad blocks during similar circumstances in the past so i don't feel quite comfortable having to cut the power before the OS says it is ok if i have a choice)
Whether you use Kies or Samsung drivers really depends on what you want to do with your device. Kies lets you synchronise your contacts, agenda, etc. with Outlook on your computer. On the other hand if you are going to work on your device's software (rooting, flashing, modifying, (de-)odexing or even just transferring files) then you're better off with Samsung drivers. See this post for a download link. If you read the posts around this one, you will see how Chasmodo stresses the importance of completely getting rid of Kies before installing the Samsung drivers.
I would recommend you completely clean your PC of all drivers, Kies or Samsung drivers (software and registry) with your Note completely disconnected from it. There should be no yellow-triangle devices or anything like that in your PC device list, and your PC should be rebooting normally again. Next install either Samsung drivers or Kies, depending on what you want to do, with the Note still not connected and only when they're comfortably installed and your PC is still working and rebooting properly, reconnect your Note and let the PC detect and finish the installation.
Kies in particular is quite temperamental so it may take a bit of playing around before everything is set up for a sync if that's what you want to do.

solved: Drivers problem

Hello everybody, I have a problem with my i9000 and my laptop, I today i dicided to format my laptop and install win 7, it's not the first time I've done it, but this time I haven't been able to successfully install the drivers to connect the laptop and the phone.
I believe that I try it all, download keys, download samsung driver for mobile phones x86, x64, windows update, tried to find the driver using the system32 folder from another pc where the i9000 is properly detected, and noting seems to work.
The only thing i haven't tried is to change the rom, but if the phone was correctly recognised by the laptop yesterday, this shouldn't be the problem, but currently i'm using SuperNexus 2.0 rom.
If any one have any ideia of what to do next i'm willing to try it out.
Best regards to everyone
Solved, i don't know why, but when i enable the usb tethering, it instaled all the drivers correctly.
