For those with AOSP Camera issues - Verizon LG G2

I'm not sure if this is only a problem for the VS980 or if it's a problem for every G2 variant, but whenever I'm using a CM11 ROM the camera is ridiculously bad. The framerate is slow as hell, as is the shutter speed. No matter what app I used, I could never get a satisfactory experience. However, I found a great solution and I STRONGLY urge you to try it out if you have the same issues as I do.
Go to this thread and follow the instructions to install this camera app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2752440
Works so well. The shutter speed is almost instant and the framerate is a little better than every other app I've tried. Your experience may vary but this was like a godsend for me since I love AOSP so much and don't want to go back to stock just for the camera. The only issue I still have is that the overall photo quality isn't that good, but I guess that's a problem I'll face for as long as I'm using an AOSP ROM.
I don't know if the app works so well because it's made for a 13MP camera or what, but it's awesome.

[Q] Camera blurry after 2.2 ROM (serendipity 6.3)

HI All,
I realize there are some other threads on this topic but not for captivate running 2.2...
I just installed the new Serendipity rom (6.3) which i'm pretty sure uses the 'hacked stock camera' with power button mod.
Unfortunately, the camera images are all noticeably blurry! no matter how still i hold it. Also, the exposure is often way off.
The old camera app from 2.1 worked great. Really nice sharp, good exposure.
What happened to the 2.2 camera, and is it possible to fix, or revert back to 2.1 camera app??
I'm a bit new to this so sorry if noob question. I did check the other threads and nothing was similar/answered.
Thanks in advance.
Having the sane problem myself. Almost as if the camera is only taking 2 or even 3MP quality shots.

are you guys tapping on the screen to focus the picture? and wipe the lens on the back?
yes.
yes, i've carefully wiped screen and focused as precisely as possible.
Download SGS Tools,v4.7.3 its the one you need. Under upgrade stock apps, select GizmoDroids camera. See if that helps out any.

thanks for this info!
I installed the GizmoDroids camera and it seems like a slight improvement. it also seems much faster to load. have yet to test the video. Still, some bothersome issues with the GD camera app... the exposure compensation is 'greyed out'? Here's a big problem: the sharpness and contrast settings don't 'stick'. They are reset every time app is run. This is huge problem to me because i find that +1 contrast and sharpness really improves image, but i cant have to set it every time i run the app...
also, i've tried out camera360 and it looks much better too. i'm wondering if the blurriness in the stock camera has to do with the autofocus being 'off', or the compression method has changed.
Is this a problem with Serendipity only, or have you experienced out with other roms?

I noticed this too; but the image quality is fine when transferred to another device such as a computer...
You guys might want to post this in the Serendipity Q&A mikey and chance are usually pretty quick to reply, maybe you should try and re-flash
I have been on Serendipity since 5.8 and have not had any issues with the camera or anything else- ROM runs perfectly for me of course as with most things on the captivate may just be device specific.... But a re-flash has helped others with issues so it might be worth a try
BTW I have not installed any camera apps either and camera is fine
My camera works great!!

Slow Camera, Ugly Pictures

I kept reading about people who are complaining about the bad quality with the camera so I just want to tell you guys... just don't take 2D pictures with the stock camera.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262720
I created a thread which had a few camera apps I recommend for the Optimus 3D. For those who don't want to click the link, the one I recommend the most is Camera360. Absolutely beautiful pictures. Faster than stock too.
Are the photos really that bad using the Stock camera app? I wonder how that's even possible, coming from SGS II. Getting the phone on Tuesday latest Wednesday.

well, I've read a lot of posts on these forums that talks about the bad quality images from the stock camera and also how long it takes to load up and take pictures.
Personal experience is... stock camera takes a while to load up. I'm unsure why its like that. However its only like a sec or two longer than most camera apps so its perfectly fine. Taking pictures is fine, I find the speed normal, however the image quality is what I'm unhappy about. Mostly, its because of the colors. Looks very watered down. Also, you couldn't see details as well as with some other pictures I've taken with other phones. Was a bit embarassed to take pictures with the stock camera, but that did change after I downloaded some new camera apps.
Maybe its just personal preference since quality is only as good as how you feel, but since I did see quite a lot of posts talking about the phone having a bad camera, I've decided to recommend a good one to maybe help get rid of some complaints.
For those who haven't tried it yet, try out some of the camera apps I've recommended, they're all free so giving it a try isn't a bad thing.
I've noticed that taking pictures inside a dim room using the flash is where the camera is bad. In well lite areas the pictures are nice. Especially outside.

[Q] Which custom-rom has a 100%-working camera?

I know, there are always problems with the cam in 4.4.2 - unfortunely.
But meanwhile I need a full working cam, so which custom-roms are highly recommend?
Thanx in advance.
PS: I'm well aware that I have to install a version lower than 4.4.2
I have 6 different cameras that work great on rooted 4.4.2 but it is still locked AT&T I-537 so not a complete custom ROM
Including: Stock Android camera, S4 GPe camera, Cymera, Focal and Google Camera. All are free. What doesn't work on yours?
Often the pictures are very overexposed. I can see it in the cam-modus. If I restart the camapp, it is normal exposed.

Would be glad to hear answer to this. Or is it just that every custom ROM (4.4.2) has this problem?
I'm really waiting forward to have KitKat in my S4 Active (nordic countries), as now I can't use for example Polar's sport applications with my official 4.2.*
You can't expect too much from this camera. It will do decent pics, but not more. Which is just fine by my standards.
Stock 4.2.2 camera works best overall, both with photos and videos. For other ROMs (4.3 and 4.4), photos are ok, but the video side has always been poor, regardless of the app or ROM used. Especially the sound volume, which is way too low, really frustrating.
Maybe things will improve with official 4.4.2 and hopefully ROM developers will manage to catch up with Touchwiz when it comes to the camera.
It shouldn't be long now.

I'm now testing unofficial CM11 for SGS4A. I agree - doing decent pics would be just fine, IF camera wouldn't freeze after changing the settings Well, waiting...

I use @spegelius's CM11 build from 03.05 and it's all I need. The only freeze/crash events occur when trying to shoot the first pic after switching to and from HDR. After that it works smooth, although HDR is not really important to me. The other thing is the first film you try to record when switching from 1080p to 720p, which comes out unviewable. I couldn't find any other flaw with the rest of the functions.
The 03.05 is the build you need, if you don't use it already.

snapchat performance

just wondering does snapchat work well on your devices, thinking of buying this phone but use snapchat a lot. on my current android phone performance of snapchat is abysmal. is it acceptable on the op3t or unusable?
thanks
Much better than what I got on the Nexus 6, which pretty much forced me to downgrade so the features don't slow down my phone. It's been really smooth for me so far.

Hi. Can you post a few photos taken with sc and with stock camera app?
Also, if you're willing to do so, can u take the pictures in both good and bad lightning conditions?
Wanna compare op3t snapchat performance with my iph6
So the non marked ones are stock camera app and the Snapchat ones are saved via Snapchat. I would take this with a pinch of salt as I'm 110% Snapchat compresses the pictures. Also there is no lo light assist via snap while the stock camera has HQ mode for low light. The last plant shot is a Selfie camera pic which BTW is really good.
Hope this helps!

snapchat will never be good on android until the actual developers work on a better code. All it does at this moment is take a screenshot of your display and thats why for us it looks so bad but I will say with owning a 3T that its the best performance of any android phone I have used the app on
I bought a 3T in the end, and there's no lag using it.. Snapchat performance is good, I think it's only been slow once or twice on me. Definitely not something to worry about .
Unfortunately Snapchat is crappy on Android in general. Laggy, poor performance and leads to battery drain sometimes.

3t still relevant

Been offered a 3t at a good price, £150
Just wondered it can still cope with everyday life
Is the development still good
And any improvements to the camera ,I remember last time I had one the camera sucked at night with oil colours like effects
yes, even with stock +/- root, runs very smoothly and quick. I just reformatted with a clean install, it runs very well. I have a few minor bugs which may be due to root with the dialer on bluetooth but overall i still enjoy using my phone! gonna upgrade to op6t or pixel 3 later this year though.
150£ for this phone is stealing.
Probably this device has some hardware problems or something else fishy is going on.
I would be extra careful before buying it.

Like (presumably) many other folks in this forum section, I'm still using the 3T as my daily device. I don't use the device for anything intensive like gaming. But for activities like email, web browsing, streaming video, the device still works great for me. I'm sure a newer device will feel snappier. But I don't notice any lag or delay due to the processor on the 3T.
In the past, I often have updated my smartphone every 2 years or so. But honesty, right now I don't think I really need or want to change from the 3T. Or even what device I would upgrade to. I'm still perfectly satisfied with what I have.
The native camera app hasn't improved much over time. OnePlus included in a few/several update changelogs, that the camera performance was improved. But we're talking pretty minor incremental differences, nothing too significant. I've found I get much better low-light performance using the Google camera mod/app, which also has portrait mode which works pretty well. When I say "low light" I mean indoors, with artificial lighting, where the native camera app tends to more frequently result in blurry subject due to slow shutter speed or auto focus. Not sure if that is the "oily" issue you mention. In good lighting, such as outdoors in sunlight, the native camera app works quite well.
Yes, you can get much better camera performance from a device that is newer and more expensive. But for the price you are talking, the 3T is a great device (assuming the one offered does not have some hardware issue like another mentioned).
