You probably should test and see what version best suits you. And you know that you do not need to use Overclock to use newest kernel.

So those who are not willing to go OC need not update to 9.8

I was telling you that you can use 9.8 withoud OC. I am using 6.8 now, just to see how it it. I recently got back to stock, and it is fine to me.

I am raising this discussion because my experience of CoCore E9.8 with Harsh Jelly 5.1 could be far better. I have gone back to version 8 for my own observation and planning for going as much back as to 6.8 and observe.

I think 6.8 and 8.6 versions are the best if you don't need overclock.
9.8 defaults to 1000 mhz, you don't have to OC if you don't want to/can't.
Of course you can try versions that didn't include OC capabilities.

That's not the point.
Run your device on 9.8 for 2 days and then on 6.8 or 8.2 or 8.6 for two days.
Then share your experiences.
Your point being...? Just curious since I don't remember, was 8.6 the last release without OC capabilities? Because if so I think I know what you mean with all this.
Then, 9.8 is old (march-april). Cocafe is on exams and not developing... go check TC's github, the CM kernel part. It's had tens, maybe a hundred or so commits that cocore doesn't have from that point, and that kernel is probably more advanced/tuned than how 9.8 is, right now. We'll have to wait a little more.
9.8 if you dont want to oc. But I will suggest that try other versions also and see which 1 suits u best

Hi guys! This thread is created just for fun,no need to get serious! I figured this way everyone can have some time to relax!
So,if you have the ability to create whatever type of ROMs you want, what type of ROM would you create?
Ok. Me first. For me,I will create a ROM that can play all games without fail. No lags at all while playing Asphalt 6... haha,it's almost hard to imagine. Now,your turn.
Reply and show your opinions!!
No need THANKS here,seriously...
Fast, stable and reliable. Of course!
And a bit more seriously - I'd aim to have as stable ROM as possible, even when I'd have to trade a bit of performance for it. I'm just too tired reflashing new ROM every 2 weeks.
GingerBread
Ultra Flast, Ultra Stable and most of all, everything working completely fine. And Android v4.0.1

OK OK, sorry dude, I really didnt read the first post carefully.
I need a ROM which will work flawlessly and without a minimum lag or hang. I dont want to play heavy games or heavy applications. Just Gmail, Map/Navigation, Facebook, Quick office, Music player etc. I wish this will run with me. Hahaha no custom are capable to fulfill my need.

Normal stock 2.1 is the best.
I just want ICS on our X8 ...
With everythings working ....
Thats still faraway ... =_=
I would create a ROM that is Ultra Fast, Ultra Stable, Bug-free, can play XPeria Play Games without lagging, an Android ICS version perhaps, using X8 with stock kernel.

As for me, I would love to port android to my LG viewty smart. 8mp camera, 800x400 screen, 1.5mb internal memory, wifi and gps. But wait for the best bit....... Its got a cpu that would struggle in a calculator. LG, you fools, why have you ruined such a great phone?

It's not that I'm not satisfied with the kernel I run, it's just that I'm certain there's some better one out there.
EDIT: What do you think of the kernel labeled Tiamat_N1-v4.1.0? From here: http://tiamat-dev.com/mahimahi/
the kernel you mentioned is what i am currently using as testing so far its working good with MIUI 2.3.23 and it offers up to 1.2GHZ overclocking which is not stable on my nexus at least

Any overclock beyond 1113 Mhz is unstable.

sry for my noob question. but is the kernel jus for oc purpose or for overall performance(battery life, call audio quality, smoothness etc)?
cos i am happy with stock kernel. no issues at all
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
the stock kernel was good for me to it did not give me any trouble but i like to mess around with my devices the change log for the kernel can be found here
Code:
http://tiamat-dev.com/8x50-changes/
as you can see there are a few improvements to the kernel with each update
I have been having 3G mobile network issue with CM7 base ROM. On certain location, I cannot download and make or receive calls. my 3G icon arrows show upload activities but no download happening. My ISP name (Maxis Malaysia) showing as normal. I upgraded to CM7.2, tried Kang ROM, preshoot kernel and change new SIM card but doesn't help. Anyone has any ideas on this problem? ROM or Kernel issue? Thank you.

there are no kernels that support overclocking yet. have to wait for someone to release a kernel that supports overclocking.

Hi.
I use JellyBam in my N7000 wich come with basic governors. I would like use smartass or interactive governors... but,
where I can get it?
Its works in two core processor?
Its is dependent of kernel? Mine is CM10.1 compatible for JellyBan.
Sorry for my english... I am noob yet... and, yes, I do 3 hours of search (with made me confuse).
Thank you in advance.]
I'm not the smartest one on here but I think it's part of the kernel.

You're completely right. Governers are baked into the kernel. You can't just download them.
@op give it some time, job is still young. Once Sammy release kernel sources I'm sure kernel devs will start implementing stuff like that. Also, questions go in the q&a section.

The guy who took over gavins work has managed to get it working on jb. It works but is say it's not ready to be used as a daily driver. You can oc, change governors etc, but it seems laggy & buggy-the homme button won't work for me, had to use back
If you want to try it its under "hydracore"

Semaphore kernel is compatible and fast
however, you have to play with the governors and scheduler to change speed without overclocking (also in stock kernel)
look your best configuration
