[q] Google Now and Google based roms - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I really enjoy stock, and am on Pacman ROM right now, I've tried CyanogenMod and a few others and feel like I missing out on something.
My question is, is there anyway to make it so I don't have to use the Google now launcher to see the google now swipe left screen, or use The "OK Google" voice search function?

[Q] Kit kat update broke Google now hotword detection on moto x

I updated my Moto X to kit kat yesterday and now my hotword detection doesn't work on the home screen or within Google now. I have the nexus 5 home launcher installed and fear it could be part of the issue, but it worked fine in jelly bean so I don't know why it wouldn't work here.
Anyone else having this issue?

I can safely say it's not the new home launcher. I've been running that for awhile now and both the motorola detection and the google detection work fine (i.e., I can say "okay google now" at any time, or say "okay google" when the device is already woken.)
I haven't done the kit kat upgrade though

I'm having the same problem.
"Ok google now" works as it should.
But when in google now, saying "ok google" does not activate voice control...very strange.

It seems that Moto may have deactivated this on purpose to prevent it from interfering with the Touchless Control feature.
Same thing, it was working shortly after the update I believe.

seems unlikely. i can't seem to get mine to work either, even though Google Now settings say to listen for "Google".
Select the Auto-Update tab from the top and choose one of the auto-update options (we recommend leaving it on “over WiFi-only”). After that, scoot over to the All tab and find English (US). You’ll notice it already says “pre-installed”. Don’t listen to it. Select English (US) anyway. From there, jump to the Installed tab and press “English (US)” where you’ll be asked to download the latest version (version 28 at the time of writing). Hit “Download” and the updated version will be downloaded and installed.
After it’s finished downloading, press the home button where you’ll notice “Ok Google” will now be displayed inside the Google Search widget. Simply speak that phrase whenever you’re on your homescreen to perform a Google Search or voice actions. That’s it. Was relatively painless, ri

Something is definitely broken. The image I included shows Android 4.4 and Android 4.2.2 differences. 4.4 is missing the "Ok" and maybe that is why it doesn't work? It worked fine before and now doesn't. English is my set language and that doesn't fix the problem.
just my 2 cents.

KidCuda,
Orsini has left out some steps. Where is his selecting Auto-Update tab (play store?)? I don't see anything that says "pre-installed". Where are you even looking for 28? I would like to confirm what number I am on.
Thanks.
Even you had 28 Download English language.

He's talking about in Google Now, go to the "Manage downloaded languages" section in settings. I tried this (on my Moto X, even though I'm typing this on a Nexus 7) and it didn't work.
My Nexus 7 just updated to KitKat tonight and doesn't have this problem.

Okay. I was able to update to version 28 and it still does NOT work, but something changed in the settings. See attachment.
I uninstalled the english language pack and reinstalled it to no avail...

[Q] google search hotword differences

So I have a HTC One, and my girlfriend has a HTC One X. Our google search hotwords are different. Mine says "Say Okay Google" and hers says "Say Google". On top of that, mine allows for continuous searching (ie. say "okay google", search something, and repeat), whereas hers only can search once (ie. say "google", search something, then you have to press the voice button to search again. Is there supposed to be a difference ? Do certain devices contain different versions of Google Search ? If possible, can the continuous searching be activated somehow ?

That Google Now feature ''Ok Google'' is new in android 4.4 (on your HTC One). The HTC one X is still on android 4.3 and doesn't support this feature yet.

Are you sure ? I'm more talking about in the actual google search app. Not the homescreen stuff. Also, my One is running 4.3 with sense 5.5, and the One X is running 4.2.2 with sense 5. Both running stock roms. no modding at all.

Android 4.3 under Google Search tab: ''Google''
http://www.android.com/about/jelly-bean/
You can say "Google" to activate Voice Search from within Google Search.
Android 4.4 ''Ok Google''
http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/
Just say “Ok Google”
You don’t need to touch the screen to get things done. When on your home screen* or in Google Now, just say “Ok Google” to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song.
Don't forget your region/language must be set to US to activate ''OK Google''.

yes, i know that. but i'm running 4.3 on my One and i can say ok google to activate it.
so..
HTC One: Android 4.3 + Sense 5.5, able to say OK Google to activate, able to continue searching after each search
HTC One X: Android 4.2.2 + Sense 5, only able to say google to activate, cant say OK Google, only able to do once, not after a search
also..
Transformer Infinity: CM 10.2 (Android 4.3.1), only able to say google to activate, cant say OK Google, only able to do once, not after a search
so with the range of devices i have access to, i'm only able to use OK Google hotword for one of the devices. And with that device, i'm able to use the hotword again to search again while in the results of another search. the other two devices can only use the hotword from the initial google search screen.
what i really want to know is why i cant do continuous searches like i can from my HTC One.
Because they don't support it...yet

[Q] Disable Moto Voice in favor of Google Now

Does anyone know of a way to disable Moto Voice and simply use the voice wake to activate Google Now? Perhaps via an Xposed module?
Moto Voice, in it's current iteration is too slow and not value added enough for me to prefer it over Google Now. Plus, if I hear "Opening Google" one more time, I'm going to go crazy.

it's pretty simple: open the Moto App, tap the Settings button on top right, tap the Voice button/icon and uncheck the Launch phrase. you might have to setup up voice activation on Google Now. like you i prefer Google Now for the time being. hope this was helpful.:good:

That will disable the voice wake. I'm looking for a way to jump straight into Google Now anytime I say my Moto Voice launch phrase.
OK, yeah that's different. Interpreted that you wanted to just go to Google Now. With my suggestion, saying "OK Google" takes you to Google Now (vs your moto launch phase).

Do you have the pure edition or carrier? Pure if you root there is a way to do it, if its carrier and locked you can't, sorry. Hopefully Lollipop will make it possible too, Nexus 6 has ambient display to rip off active display, and will use the always listening chip it has to act like moto voice, but built into google now.

Thanks! Now I need to figure out if I want to root my phone now or wait for L and Xposed to run on ART.
Lollipop is supposed to be able to do ok google from screen off with phones using the always listening chips. The nexus 6 and 9 are supposed to use it with theirs. I'm still hoping that our moto's well be able to use it as part of stock android so i don't have to use moto voice at all. Only i don't know if they intend to add custom phrase support, which i could stand losing. Though i concur about ART xposed, that i can't wait for.

Google hotword only works on home screen

I recently flashed my XT1096 with CM13, and replaced the stock launcher with Nova Prime as I usually do. However after enabling the "OK Google" hotword in Nova Launcher, and enabling the "OK Google" hotword in the Google Now app, I still can't seem to trigger it with the hotword outside of the home screen. I haven't been able to find anything about why this isn't working, so hopefully someone can shed some light...
Same thing for me on stock unrooted 5.0 and 6.0.
Don't know when or why it stopped working, but it led me to turn Moto Voice back on.

That's great and all but if I do that then cyanogen mod will stop giving support on issues. Besides, this is an option built into the Google app and nova launcher. It works with the launcher when on the desktop but not on any screen like the Google app says it should do.
It doesn't work on stock either. The phone is expecting you to use Moto Voice and for some reason that causes the Google Now voice recognition to take a back seat.

'Ok Google' detection

Using CM 13 (28/04 build). One thing that is bugging me out for sometime, which is 'Ok google' detection from any screen is missing in Google Now settings.
On stock 6.0, Moto Voice serves as a back-end to Google Now search. So it kinda works from any screen and even if the screen is off.
So yeah, if anyone has any work around for it to act like 'always listening' , do tell. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.
No reply? ?
same here, ok google not working on NX ROM and RR ROM...i've tried in both, it does not works from any screen or with screen off....it only works from the google app itself
I'm on RR rom
i guess it has something to do with the google apps....which gapps you're using ? i'm using nano gapps
I have the same problem too. I am on NX Rom, NX Gapps.

Tried the Stock Nexus Gapps. Sadly, no it didn't work out. I heard a lot of devices are missing 'ok google from anywhere' option in google now launcher settings ,including the famous Nexus 5X. Recently the update to google app broke it. I hope it works in the future though.
Some also say, Google disabled 'always on' feature to save up battery and people were accusing Google of spying on users through that function.
I gave up, may be I will return to Stock 6.0 (Moto Voice FTW! ?) , may be not. [emoji4]

Google is blocking this app. now.
All the search commands and queries go through a separate server which appears to me a lot shady, not to mention all those permissions one has to provide after installing the app.
Last but not the least it's a battery hog. It eats up battery like hell cause of triggering so many wake locks so many times.

yes that's the problem, google has disabled this maybe in the future updates it will be there again like it was and that's why i'm using open mic+ without any issues, you can set custom phrase like moto voice and also works on lockscreen or even if the screen is off and its really fast, but don't use open mic+ with google now launcher, it won't be accurate or it won't response that well, if you are rooted and have Google Now Launcher installed i suggest you to delete GNL and use nova launcher instead
here's the apk of open mic+ and use it with nova launcher and delete google now launcher
