I have been doing network admin for about 10 years. The company I work for is a Ag company (been there almost 2 years) and doesnt appreciate IT work. I have found out through the grapevine that they are trying to cut costs. One of those ways is to hire consulting company and lay me off. They scheduled for a IT consulting company to come out to our office along with a pervious IT Admin from our company (5 yrs ago, but still has the knowledge of all admin passwords and such), he has been doing software consulting for one of our depts for 5 yrs since he left. They scheduled it on my day off so I won't be here. My best guess is they will together share knowledge of software and proceedures to get the consulting company up to speed to be in place to lay me off. I am wondering is it out of my scope to change network creditials (local and domain) before they come out so they won't be able to gain access to anything.
Just wondering what everyone thinks and what you would do in my position. I already applied for 50 to 60 jobs in last week or 2, but most definately i will take a pay cut where ever I go.
you have to remember than doing anything untoward to this company as you are getting laid off will give the wrong impression to a perspective employer
what you need to do is to cooperate fully with what they ask. end of the day it may be there reference that will get you the new job
and you don't want anything bad written on a reference to jeopardise your chances with any possibly company who may hire you

You shouldn't have to take a reduction in wages when moving to another company. Simply take time to assess all of the duties that you currently perform at this company as well as any accomplishments.
Position your resume to such that it emphasizes the accomplishments versus duties. Most potential employers look for what a person has done over and above their duties.
I would confront the management (if you haven't already) regarding their approach as it is unprofessional and somewhat underhanded.
Lastly, outsourcing IT is a "bad idea" in any company that has 25+ workstations and 1+ server. The last company I worked for who outsourced ended with a stock drop from $50 > $5 > de-list > to company closure.

Also, do don't anything stupid to the company's network, it's really not worth it. My coworker told me a story from his previous company that the admin got laid off and then came back to cut off the underground fibre optic cable. End up in jail.

I think the first question we should be asking is why you have the same passwords that you did five years ago? That should be against policy and changed immediately.
While I agree with the others that this recommendation is important, I would immediately email whoever is above you and tell them that the passwords are going to be changed, as per policy. Then I would question what the contract with this contractor is and if he is able to have connections with other companies which might have interests which are damaging to the company's and if he might benefit from selling those passwords that he still knows from five years ago.

So I recently cancelled my preorder with sprint because of wirefly's and neweggs low costs. However I called HTC about the fan promo getting $100 for turning in your old phone and mines an HTC Evo 3D so I'm not sure It's worth much if I sell. Just asking for some Opinions here from people who are used to getting the best deals. Should I order from Newegg for 129.99 and sell mine or would it be better to get the $100 from HTC and preorder from them. I never sold a phone before so I'm not sure what I would need to do to mine but it's fully rooted as well as the other two lines I have and I am upgrading all lines so the best deal I can get is what I want to do.

Yeah, I was under the impression that you didn't need to order from HTC's online store (through Letstalk) to qualify for the $100 trade-in offer. At least I didn't read it under their terms.
As for the EVO 3D, I think it really depends what kind of condition your phone is in. I think mint EVO 3Ds can probably sell for around $150 on eBay (although you will have to factor in fees to that as well), but you're looking at around $100 for one in "used" condition. So you'd probably be better off just mailing in the device and getting the guaranteed $100 on a visa prepaid rather than going through the hassle of trying to sell it and maybe not getting what you want for it.
If you pre-order, you will have a good amount of time to decide what you want to do with your old phone though, so if you want to possibly get a bit of extra cash, you could attempt to sell it and if it doesn't work out and you don't get the price you want, just trade it in instead.

I just sold(Traded it) my EVO 3D in craigslist for an Xbox 360 slim 250GB halo reach edition with 2 controllers, batteries and charger. The guy was selling the xbox for $250 and I'm selling it to my friend for $200. My 3D was in almost perfect condition( I got it on launch day) except that I had one of those with the easy to scratch the paint bezel and I had 2 small scuffs. I was selling the phone with a ballistic case, extra battery( extended slim) with charger, charging cable and a cat 2 16GB sd card for $200. Right now I'm using my friend's EVO 3D with a bad digitizer and the bezel is coming off.... I can't wait for the 19...
Like you said depending on the condition of the phone will make a huge difference on how much you can sell it for. Me and my friend got our EVO's at lunch day and he had to put an insurance claim last July and his replacement phone is falling apart because he keeps taking the phone of the case and he keeps dropping it.

Yeah, I have no personal experience selling an Evo 3D; just looked at the going rates on some of them that have sold on eBay lately, so that's where I got the prices from.
I submitted for the HTC. $100 but used very old BlackBerry Curve in good condition to qualify. Was not about to take $100 for LTE or 3d.

I wan't to take advantage of this offer by sending an iPhone 3G that my dauther was using until I upgrade her to Note II for her birthday in november, becuse I already sold my EVO 3D for $200 and we have no use for the Iphone. But I was reading the terms to qualify for this offer and I notice this:
7. ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM:
7.2 Program Requirements. In order to participate in the HTC One Upgrade Program you must have an eligible used device as defined by the on-line Tool. You can identify if the used device is eligible by utilizing the drop down menus to pick the make, model, and carrier for the used device. If you cannot find the make or model and believe this is in error, you can contact the program administrator at Clover Wireless. The Program is only valid within the United States. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age to participate. The Program is not valid on stolen property. There is a maximum of one (1) trade-in utilizing HTC One Upgrade promotion per registrant. A valid proof of purchase is a) an original invoice with the IMEI number printed on it or b) a copy of the UPC code with the IMEI code printed on it. A copy of a UPC code is only permitted once as a valid Proof of Purchases. Clover Wireless has the right to reject any trade-ins for promotional trade-in submissions where 1) the used device is submitted by anyone other than the user of the used device and 2) when the used device was not active at the time of the new device purchase and 3) the trade-in voucher was not agreed to by you and 4) there is an invalid proof of purchase or 5) we believe there to be fraudulent intentions. Without a valid Proof of Purchase, you will not be paid the promotional trade-up amount.
I wonder how can they verify what device I have active at the time of purchase? I'm currently I'm using my friend's EVO 3D with a broken digitizer....

Most probably just covering their asses.
I have a retailer business here in Singapore. We sell mobile phone accessories along with our retails of the latest mobile phones. The Peterson Group was introduced to me by a friend of mine when my distributor failed to meet my needs. At first, it was a good deal. They have the latest model of almost all accessories in the market. They showed us samples and made great deals for us. Since we are new partners, they even threw some free accessories in the package as well.
They have nice staff, very accommodating. My business clicked and many people came to us since the products that we have are fresh from the market and we are on the lead compared to our competitors. While their product is still being shipped, ours are already nearly out of stock. I was even dreaming of expanding our business, renting stalls in big malls or even bring my business to Jakarta, Indonesia where my wife’s family resides. However though, the reality became a nightmare when about 3 months after I signed contract with The Peterson Group, the complaints on our products’ defect came frequently. We dealt with angry and frustrated customers. We know this is normal in this kind of business and we dealt each complaint with patience.
There were times that I was even the one who defended TPG and thought that maybe some of the customers break their chargers in purpose to get a refund. When one customer threatened to sue of having fraud products, it is when I became alarmed. The test and sample products seemed to be working but why is it that the deliveries are not working when they should be? I tried contacting TPG about this. After hundreds of connecting calls to so many people and telling my story a few thousand more, I was finally promised that they would conduct an investigation on this. I decided to give them a chance to redeem themselves. After two weeks, no one came and when I called, I get connected to voicemail and no one called me back. I now know that I have been deceived. I don’t want others to lose thousands of dollars like me. I am now working with my attorney on legal actions that I can take against them.

You have to sue them, dude. It is against the law to sell defected products.
Reply to The Peterson Group Fraud Company Failed Promises
Heard of this issue a year ago but wasn’t sure the details behind it.
Every business has its own flaws. It may be that they just made a huge miscalculation at that time.
How do these scammers even get away from bad things they do? As I know it, The Peterson Group is one of the leading wholesalers of mobile accessories in Asia. Is this account true?
Is The Peterson Group still operating until now? How far will they be able to fool everyone?
There are a lot of fraud people especially in these kinds of business. With a lot of available products around offering the same brand, you would not know which one is legit.
I don’t think The Peterson Group can do this kind of thing. I have been with them for a few years now and nothing like this happened.

Same issue for me. But I wasn’t able to realize it before hand since the communication was constant. First, they were not able to deliver my products on time which caused me precious business time and kept me from reaching my monthly goal quota. The representative I talked to said that they were having big update on their shipping lines which halted some of their operations but I was promised that they are to deliver in one week’s time. I relented. They delivered after a week and a day. I let it pass. One time, when my staff was showing the functionality of one of the accessories to a potential customer, it suddenly burst into flames. The shame that I have felt in front of that shocked customer was really to the core. It also caused us a lot of money and I even suspended my staff, thinking that he has demonstrated wrong while we do the investigations. Our electrics engineer checked and it showed that there are defects on the product itself. We also checked the other deliveries and it confirmed that the products have been created from different parts of dismantled brands. I immediately contacted The Peterson Group regarding this. To make the matters worse, complaints started pouring out as well from emails, calls and personal means. I decided to end it when they weren’t able to give me anymore excuses. I am now with a different distributor.
I am actually wondering how they get away with it? They even hire people around to get involved. I hear they are a big company. How do they manage to fool even the government?
