[Q] Smoothest browser for Moto X? - Moto X Q&A

What are some of the fastest, most fluid browsers for the Moto X on 4.4.2? Looking for extremely smooth, stutter-free vertical scrolling mostly.
Chrome stutters. AOSP runs no smoother than Chrome due to Google changing something in 4.4.2.
Thanks
I really don't care about features. I just need perfectly fluid vertical scrolling and half-decent text reflow on double tap.
Also battery drain is an automatic disqualification for me. I remember back in the day Dolphin caused standby drain and Maxthon caused high drain while using it.

Have you tried Opera?

Boat browser seems to fulfill your requirements. It has text reflow and smooth vertical scrolling. Also has some nifty features like a floating browser
The vertical scrolling was completly smooth on my GS3 running 4/20 CarbonROM with KT 5/09 kernel on Interactive with the go_hispeed_load set to 50.
On the non-rooted Moto X, it stutters every so slightly, similar to the amount of stutter scrolling through Google Now. But it's more or less acceptable.

I tried this tweak on Chrome and never again will you see a frame drop. Ever.

Maxthon HD smoother than AOSP.
see my signature.

I tried the Chrome fix where I set Max Flags to 512MB, still stutters though.
I tried:
Opera
Opera Mini
Firefox
UC Browser
UC Browser mini
Maxthon
Boat Browser
Lightning Browser+
Vertical scrolling is undoubtedly smoothest on Firefox (flawless), hands down. Second place would be Lightning Browser (very slight barely noticeable Microlags while scrolling during image rendering) and third is a tossup between Maxthon and Boat browser. I have to mention that Maxthon has a very inconsistent input lag for example if you scroll fast, stop the scroll and scroll again slow, it feels VERY unresponsive to me.
The Mini versions are very smooth but make scrolling through long lists (i.e Facebook newsfeed) annoying as I keep having to click on show more, and wait for the loading time every time I scroll to the bottom where as in the full versions it pre renders before I reach the bottom, making the loading time minimal.
Thanks for the help guys.

What site are you using to test out scrolling smoothness? Facebook?
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk

Yes. Out of the websites I frequent, that is the most demanding, media heavy site. I'm trying to get away from using the official app as it's way to laggy. I'm embarrassed to use it in public LOL
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk

Note on Maxthon: the regular & HD are like night & day. HD is way smoother. Also you cannot compare Firefox page/font size rendering to the famous Miren prodigy.

Damn fast indeed!!!!
Even faster than Chrome
yeah I love it
UNITE is great as well..
Looks good...will have to take it for a spin!
I've been using Opera for about a year now and opera 10 is great, and 10.50 is REALLY fast. The only issues I have is it freezes and crashes sometimes when browsing Java intense sites (such as Facebook), but I'm sure that's just a beta issue that will (hopefully) be fixed in the final release. Also, Opera Turbo is great when i tether my phone to my computer for internet. Opera Link is also a great feature so i can sync all my favorites and speed dial from my desktop to Opera Mini and Mobile on my phone.
Overall, I love opera. I just wish it had a wider java support as some features dont work on some sites (ie, the @ tagging on Facebook statuses doesnt work in opera). I would still suggest opera over all other browsers.

Yes, unbeleievable. Thanks for the link
Thanks Orb for pointing out have to say impressed not used Opera for along time on desktop due to adverts, have they only just incorporated ad block?
Running fast and smooth will give it a while to know if can switch as straight away i'm missing some plugins i use on regular occasions.

That sounds like JavaScript and not Java.
How does the @ tagging on Facebook work? What isn't working in Opera?

I'm not fussed about the features so much as the experience. How does it compare in speed/smoothness and support for things like flash content etc.

It depends on what how good is your processor.
So far I am using this and the stock,
this is much much more better in terms of support for flash contect, history, bookmarking, and much more add on.
However, it uses 2-3x more battery than the stock broswer

I'm using it on my Nexus One..it's so smooth and fluid compared to stock, I'm positive I'll be using it on my Nexus S when I'm back from overseas. Closest thing to Chrome for our phones, which is ironic considering Google built the damn stock browser!

Anything except IE. Right now I'm sharing time between Chrome and Firefox 5 beta.
Used firefox for a long time, but beta5 crashes way too often for me.
trying opera and chrome atm.

Chrome. Added a poll for you
I use Firefox. I use them all and FF is the best. It does more that the others and is more convenient. I never have any crashes or bugs either. Chrome is suppose to be good, and it may well be perfectly fine for most. But I do have browsing issues with it and it doesn't provide me the convenience I get with FF.

And this morning, I had my first crash since... months ago.
FF due to the extensions
Every so often when using Chrome i use the option to open all my bookmarks at once in seperate tabs. Watching 50 websites load simultaneously and instantly gets me hard

Y u people whine so much? ¬¬

I can't be the only one...I hope

OK..since my first note I always loves the stock browser for the auto fit webpage option! I never like chrome because it does the weird thing with text. Some will be tiny other large. Well note 3 browser doesn't have the auto fit webpage option but has the weird text option!!!!! I hope I'm overlooking it somewhere. If not is there a browser that supports this option? Pics included for better understanding. These are from note 2.

To be honest I don't even bother with the stock browser. Chrome has all my bookmarks and settings and syncs so well. Try it for a bit. I have a feeling that the stock browser is slowly just becoming a skinned chrome browser though. I need to look into that a bit more though.

I don't use the stock browser, but I took a look at the settings and found these.
I'm guessing text booster is what's making your text all wonky.
And force zoom probably has something to do with autofit.
Also, double tap on any page in every smartphone browser I've ever used auto fits the page. I'd five that a try.

I saw those settings. Force zoom just let's you zoom if a website doesn't let you. And the text booster IS the reason for wonky text! Even double tapping the screen doesn't auto fit the pages! If you notice the pic I have zoomed way in (and that zoom is a double tap zoom) and it auto fit. New phone no dice. I tried chrome but it automatically does the wonky text thing which makes 0 sense to me. Ah well it must be forever gone!
