Plex on Sale at Amazon 99Cents - Google Chromecast

For those who wanted to try Plex but didn't want to spend the $5 it costs for the Non-PlexPass app...
Amazon has it on sale for 99 Cents plus they will give you 30 Amazon coins...
I should point out however that Amazon is notoriously behind on the latest version of Apps compared to the Play Store and it's not uncommon for it to be two or three releases behind.
But if the cost was keeping you from checking out Plex (the Server itself is free) You might want to spend a $1 to check it out.
Bubble does a few things better than Plex does but Plex is still one of the best transcoding Media Servers available for Android...And the server works quite well with the Bubble media aggregation system.

Actually you can get it for free. There are 5 apps that gives you 200 coins each. So if you download these 5 apps you'll have 1000 coins (=$10). Then you can use 99 coins (=$0.99) to "buy" plex. Then you can buy Avia and other apps.

thanks...
Me myself made the decision awhile ago to only install apps from the Play store for the reasons I cited regarding timely updates...
That and the fact that when using Amazon you have to login to the store every now and then to check license before yo can use it...
But for those who are cost conscious and stayed away from Plex I though I would let them know...
Free is even better provided you do not have to install the crapware needed to get the coins.

You get the coins on purchase, so you don't have to install the apps.
That's why I usually do these from computer so they stay on the cloud side.
You can also remove purchases from your account if there's something that you're sure you don't want.

Yeah I just decided to stay away from Amazon's store entirely....
You have to open it to update apps and manually select update...
Some apps won't open unless you open and log into the Amazon App to verify License...
Amazon Apps are usually two versions behind on Apps that get updated often...
Just a personal preference of mine and I sure don't mean to discourage anyone from using it because they do have a lot of value at a better price...
To me it's just worth the extra money to know I don't have to worry about updates and such, it all is done automatically whenever I'm in range of a WiFi.

How do you do that? I couldn't see any way to purchase Android apps on PC without going through the Amazon app store on Android.

Just search for any app name like searching for a physical product and it will show it.

But I don't get a "Buy" link, just a link to the Amazon App Store, which I can't run on my PC.

Do you have an Amazon account set up? You need to be logged in I believe and have 1 click buy set up...

Ok, it works now. I don't know why it wasn't working before, logged in to the same account. Maybe because I hadn't yet bought any Android apps or registered an Android device on that account? Now I have two Android devices registered for some reason, but it's the same device registered twice.

You definitely need to have Amazon Appstore installed and logged in from at least one Android device.
I wouldn't worry too much about the duplicate device, it can happen if you change ROM or even upon reinstall sometimes. You can remove the duplicate in your Amazon settings under my digital devices.

LOL the Play store also used to think I had 4 different Phones which were really all the same phone with different roms installed on them!
And you are right you have to have the Amazon App installed and that will register the device to the account once you have logged in with it...

That's life. $ always wins.
Dunno how old you are, but you remember a certain President saying "No new (or raising existing) taxes". What happened later?. Yeah, raised taxes! yay Just because someone says something doesn't mean they will keep their word.
@OP:
If you have the App already downloaded [i.e. have the .apk file on the phone] you have nothing to worry about.
Which makes me wonder... If you can send someone an .apk file (for instance, an application that is now "paid"), you could give it to them for free, no?
That'd be pretty interesting, considering many of the apps I have are now paid or removed and transfered to paid only.
free -> pay transition
I had all my apps backed up(via astro) on a black g1 I bought on day 1.
I wanted white but but on the first day all they had was black and a few bronze, the wifey wanted 1 in black so I got a white one then swapped my sd card to the white one and downloaded astro to the new phone (after rc33->29 downgrade->JF RC33 upgrade) and installed them all 1 by 1[OT](hey astro dev cant we get a check all on the restore like on the backup)[/OT]
I went to check out the new stuff at the market and all I could see is PRICES, all the good apps got a slight name change and a price tag, how is it protected, my wife would never use most of the geek apps I had on it(i wiped it for her) so would those apps be locked to her imei and I would have to rebuy all the aps I'd want for my white one?
just a tip, to whomever controls this "IF you screw this part up, piracy will be rampant, it has to be fair to the end user and the devs"

I beleive that if an app was free, but now dev is charging for it, we should be allowed to share app since it was not cracked if you have original apk. My opinion.

I think we should be allowed to share the version before it went premium considering that version was released for free and thus there's no basis for claiming losses with the DMCA regardless of a lack of proper DRM protection.
Honestly stuff like this is making me backup a lot of my apps. I have no problem paying for an app that is worth the money, but when there is little or no changes from the original free version it feels like I'm being back stabbed for my support when I see a $4.99+ price tag on some apps. Its also not helping the situation where Google banned dev phones and anyone not on the T-Mobile network from purchasing premium apps. Between Google and this, some people are just setting themselves up to be targeted by pirates.

A little adb pull/install will allow you to get the "protected" apks and reinstall them when/where ever you want.

Sharing the free apk isn't a problem. The one posted is not the paid apk file -- so this should be fine. The problem is, the free one will most likely not be updated if he introduces new features.
As of now they are the same, other than the "will always be free" has been removed.

Is there a way to get angry birds full version on a samsung captivate that has not been changed since the box has been opened?

Yes you download full Angry birds from Getjar then you can use Side loading app .
Or you could just download it from the Market...

Lots of people, including myself, are getting the "Not found in Market" error.
But do what the first reply said. Download it from Getjar or even from this thread which also says ANGRY BIRDS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809431
Then install using the Sideload Wonder Machine found here: http://images.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/files/downloads/AC-SWM-v1.0.zip
Edit: Just wondering how you didn't see this before

Install app brain, thats where i found it
airplane mode and turn on wifi. this still works for me.
if you do the ota update it should show up.
I have JH7 installed from an earlier cognition version. I just now installed the full version for free from the android market. Anyone else able to do so?
If you do not have the ota update you will not be able to find it.... Do the OTA.
I check that post before i posted mine and the main issue i had is that getjar would not let me download the app (phone not supported) when i download the app to my phone i am not "allowed" to sideload apps, and i have checked the market both in airplane mode with wifi on and in regular 3g mode... still can't get it sometimes simple things can be very annoying to complete...
There was another download link in the thread if you actually read it. You then could have put it on the phone with Sideload Wonder Machine. It's not that hard if you actually read. I promise you all the resources are there and available to you.
Thank you for your help now I have successfully installed angry birds

I had the same problem with the new Angry Birds (V1.5.1). Appbrain, Android Marketplace, from phone, from PC on web, etc, none will allow me to upgrade or fresh install AB anymore (tho they did allow me to install the newest AB Seasons w/ valentine levels).
Got the APK from site listed on previous page, tried to use the "Wonderful" sideloader app also listed therein (tho it doesn't support upgrading sideloading--upsideloading?--) and finally loaded the apk directly from my phone's internal microSD (I'm rooted).
why is it some apps are blocked in teh market for my ATT Captivate? Did I screw something up, or is ATT just screwing with us?
AT&T likes to think they know better then us and censor our market app. Custom ROMs ftw with uncensored markets.

CNN Mobile
Hello everyone, I am looking for feedback on my apps I created. Here is my first app. Please comment here and if you enjoy it please leave feedback on the actual review for the marketplace. Price is .99 however I offer an fully function ad supported version as a trial. It only nags the first launch it ever does. The ads are removed after purchase. Please let me know. Also this app is under attack on the marketplace by competition you will notice the first 4 posts are all 1 and are by competition (I have verified this with microsoft however they will not remove them).

just downloaded your app. it looks pretty neat. will leave a good review!
no problem
I will put feed back
Hey,
I just checked out your app. It's nice and quick way to view the CNN mobile webpage. I do have one question, what's the real advantage of using your app compared to just pinning the CNN Mobile homepage to the startscreen?
Btw, I used this website to check on your reviews: ttp://wp7reviews.tomverhoeff.com/AppReviews.aspx?id=cfe3f2e2-db08-e011-9264-00237de2db9e
Looks like the positive reviews are coming through. I won't review you, although i like the concept of the app i agree with some of the review that paying for just a webbrowsercontrol is kind of silly. If you offered it for free it would be 5 stars.
Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. Well the advantage to using my website is not alot of people actually know the mobile site by heart, and my app shows more of the screen than the internet explorer. Also my app shows an icon that goes a little more with the overall design element of the windows phone 7. That's why I'm offering it at .99C plus if you want to just continue using the trial for free it can be the update does have an ad that will support me and there will be no nag screen except during the very first launch if people just want to use the trial. In all honesty i prefer my NewsPaper 7 app. It's got about 14 websites in it and the ability to add two of your own.
Hey,
Just checked your NewsPaper 7 app, to be honest i think that's what should be called your first app since it really ads functionality. It's a really quick way of accessing the mobile webpages.
Btw, just wondering. Are you using ads from MS Ads SDK? How are the results, do you see any good eCPM?

Well, CNN Mobile was what I wanted when I first got it so thats what i started with. NewsPaper 7 is what ended up being kind of a mix of ideas and I did not want to flood the market w/ 1.29 or .99 apps. So I created one I could price at 2.99 then drop to 1.99..1.29...then .99 once my sales went up. The NewsPaper7 app started as an idea one morning and was done that night, the results are very pleasing and what I'm actually using on my phone. I am considering cross platforming this app into the blackberry tablet however I need to look more into that SDK prior to launch.
Yes the ads are from the MS SDK, if you do financial ads like I have the eCPM is averaging between 60-200$ per 1000. It seems the more ads you display the more it goes down. So I am still trying to tweak the right combination.
My CNN App is suppose to have the bug fixes and the back hardware button work correctly, the update is accepted its just Microsoft has declined every version # in between. And since the two apps were developed side by side the version number once it hits the marketplace jumps from 1.0 to 1.4.
NewsPaper 7? I can't find it using the Zune software on my PC... Is that the actual name?
zune looks to not be finding it under that tag for some reason try news paper 7, or just follow this direct link http://bit.ly/dR5L7B I have also now added direct links to zune on both apps.
I left a good review for you since I quite like it. I'm from Canada, and I'm the first to leave a rating, so hopefully this helps out.
Thank you. I honestly hate how the market is segregated by nationality. It should be segregated by language instead. If you haven't purchased it you should try NewsPaper 7. It does more websites than the CNN Mobile. The trial version will run for ever on the NewsPaper 7.

Bestbuy has Moga Power A Bluetooth Controller for $23.99.

I believe this is an in-store price because it is more online. This is supposed to be an excellent controller for use with the GVR. It's normally $59.99. Not all stores carry this so check online before venturing out. Here's the SKU: 1883244.

They usually have a small hook of them by the phone cases and an end display between console games and computer accessories, depending on store layout. Your best bet would be to go for the Power Pro (same generation, but "premium") on Amazon or somewhere that has it discounted. It is far more comfortable and still fits into the Gear VR bag by propping it in the area meant for the Sammy one.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/power-a...ices/1883244.p?id=1219066387956&skuId=1883244 <- That is what comes up for the SKU. They are $36.99 and it is the Moga Hero, so chances are they will not price match based on a rumor. Usually discontinued items are marked or regular price on the site, not on sale.
The Hero line is known for being problematic. They do some interesting things with the buttons, such as sending out buffer codes. It is not something you may see as an end user, so long as the apps you use it with have accounted for use with the Hero.
If the controller didn't work for you, that may work to your advantage. Before returning it, it is a good idea to contact Moga. Moga doesn't do recalls, they discontinue the controller and then do warranty replacements for a similar item. They have done the same thing with their console controllers and you can buy a $30 PS3 controller and with one phone call a week or so of waiting, come out with a $60 Xbox controller.
My thoughts on the Hero are not based on experience with the Gear VR specifically, they are based on experience with designing the controller interface for an emulator. Moga releases a general plug-in for Unity, so chances are using it with the Gear VR exclusively will never present the issues. The plugin for Android as a whole requires you design a separate interface just for the Hero, which unless you use their SDK, is when you begin to notice the eccentricities.

You're better off waiting for a sale on the Power Pro or praying it's broken out of the box. Moga tends to cut all ties to discontinued hardware, but their warranty repair is to replace it with a current model.

What?!
Mine works fine and for $24 is a steal. I really can't be worried about "continued support". I mean, it's a controller - how much support does it need? You turn it on, you press the buttons, boom boom. Don't think I'll be calling support for a walk-through. *SMH*
My BestBuy had 3 flavors, the Pro, an iPhone model and this one. They sold them in the mobile section. The Pro version was very expensive and not on sale. The online inventory thing did show they had these in 3 stores in my region.
The problem with "waiting on a Pro version sale" is waiting on a Pro version sale. Are you willing to wait months (if ever) just to save a few bucks on a controller? Kind of ridiculous plan assuming you actually want a controller anytime soon.

I prefer not to run out and buy something because I saw one thread about it on xda. That is how you end up with $200 in hardware that you have to post all over xda bashing. It is better to be absolutely sure it is the device you want, not just the one that was on sale. Whether or not you want to be impatient is your discretion. I am only providing the info I found through a lot of research before I bought the Moga Power Pro that has stuck with me through three devices.
Other cheap but extremely well-rated controllers that do not require special software:

Thanks for links. Those are all significantly more expensive than the model discussed in the OP and the last one isn't even a controller at all, it's a clip.

Minimize Distraction My Butt!

I'm a big fan of Android, but sometimes I just have to throw my hands in the air and....

So I get in my truck, plug in my phone and head down the road... and then I see something like "Could not connect to Android Auto, please look at your phone when it is safe to do so". I pull over and grab my phone and the Android Auto app is showing me an ad for Play Music All Access. It did this twice today.
Google, sometimes you suck!
Google ads at its finest. Soon it will be like "I'm pulling you over for breakfast, please prepare password to access google wallet", or "It seems that this nearby store has item you've been searching for today with google, I have already ordered and paid for one". And peoples will be like - "thank you master google". Work, sh!t, sleep, consume.
I'm sorry, but this is what we get for demanding everything for free. No one's willing to pay a dime for software, and expect billions of dollars in development to just be...charity?

I'm sorry too, but it is the developers that have set this expectation with consumers. Look at Google Play... practically everything there is free with either ads or in app purchases (which, fortunately, now have to be disclosed in the listing). Hell, if your app is worth a damn, put a price on it! But no, they want users instead (or their app is garbage and people won't pay for it anyway).

It's tough though. If you make a great app and charge even a dollar for it, WAY more people are going to get the mediocre app for free rather than pay EVEN A DOLLAR, let alone real money. It forces developers to push the free options or just go out of business.

Possibly... but what came first the chicken or the egg? I look at apps like Tasker and Pocket Casts and they seem to be doing alright. Many others as well. Let's face it, most of what is in the Play Store is junk. I'd like to think the average Android user is becoming more sophisticated, and would prefer to spend a few bucks rather than to load their device up with a lot of junk.
But I don't profess to totally understand the market. There are still a lot of mysteries; like really well executed and supported apps that seem to have no revenue stream, i.e. ES File Explorer. So go figure. (c;

Yes !!
Blaming developers for the fact that most people don't want to pay for apps seems counter-intuitive to me.
That said, the situation is complex; Devs do not move together as a group and neither do users. We can say the same things about politicians vs the people who vote for them; each group of nations, nations, and the various levels of more local governrnents all have their own peculiarities.
Google has a major role here too. IMO Google has long benefited from free apps (and piracy) and I feel it's effectively a FEATURE of Android. Google makes 90% of their money from advertising, and a sizable chunk is from advertising within free apps. Google doesn't really seem to care if app devs make money; they care about GOOGLE making money.
That said, there ARE many mediocre devs out there and I don't think ALL devs DESERVE to be able to make a livable income from their apps.

The challenge for devs is to find an app niche that's easy enough to do, while at the same time being hard enough to copy.
I've picked some niches (FM on AOSP & Android Auto HU) that are hard to do and require difficult reverse engineering. The result is that I have almost no competition, which is nice. But the tasks are VERY hard and take a lot of time to do reasonably well.
Then there's piracy, which is a "fact of life" for devs. It's VERY easy to find almost any app with a quick Google search. The best solution I have for that is to support people well technically and make them WANT to help support me financially.
Some devs complain that "they stole my idea" and feel they can't protect their ideas. My response is that ideas are "a dime a dozen" and this is to be expected if your idea is good and easy to copy. IMO other devs are welcome to "steal my ideas" if they have the ability to make them work. So many ideas are pretty self evident/obvious; hard part is following through and making them work.
AdAway FTW.
