Hello today i tried charging my phone using a 5 V 2Amp rail on a pcb from a monitor!.
I connected the usb and shorted the ground and Data + pins on the usb connector to start the charging. The phone was charging but the battery dropped form 70 to 69 % after this i disconected the phone and rebooted it the battery was 93%.
Then i pluged the phone to a 1.2 A charger that i was originally using (Not the charger that came with it! this was a Nokia charger) and the phone would not charge.
After a reboot i saw a meesage that one app got uninstalled.
I downloaded and flashed Carbon Rom 4.4 the one i use for about 2 months now.And tried again (i thought that would replace the uninstalled app the probably messed up the charging.).
Nothing
Then i hooked it up on the pc and it will not recognize the phone normally in fastboot or flashmode.
The plus is the phone works fine and when plug in the charger when its powered down it boots.
Thus i dont think i blew the charge controller on the device.
But it wont go into recovery after the flashing of the rom
I run Carbon Rom KK (4.4.2) Nyan kernel UBL And i haveo nly about 60% of battery left to save it.
Thank you.
News (good or bad i dont know you tell)
It seems to understand a usb stick when connected by otg but only when the usb stick is connected halfway in the otg cable.... something wrong with the connector maybe.

When I first got the phone earlier this week, I could plug it into the charger in the wall just fine with no issues, it would just charge. Now suddenly it started telling me USB connected and goes to the MTP screen and of course locks up the phone.
I can of course bypass this by switching the phone to mass storage mode, but since I have Kies and use it occasionally, it would be nice to not have to switch that setting each time depending on my charging/syncing situation.
Why would it have not locked it up with the MTP screen originally when charging from the wall but now it does? The results are the same whether its plugged into the wall or the USB port on the computer. I have two Captivates bought brand new on a family plan, both do this now with any combination of chargers and USB cables, wall USB port, or car charger. Neither one has a common application installed since the other is my girlfriends who hasnt done much to it yet, so Im blaming the phone itself for now...

Interesting. I just checked with my BB charger and they dont do it using that charger, but they do it as soon as I connect the stock charger again.
Im wondering if its a voltage sensing circuit thats tripping due to the different voltages which should be applied - either wall charger or USB port. Maybe for some reason my wall chargers arent putting out enough voltage and its thinking its a USB port, but the BB charger is putting the right amount of voltage out?
Am I on base as to how it differentiates between wall or USB port? The number of pins obviously doesnt matter as all the cables have all the pins in them, unlike some charger cables which only have the power and ground. The only thing I can think of is that it uses the amount of voltage/current to tell the difference and create its reaction.

Sounds like a problem with the stock charger, maybe usb cable alignment. My iphone wall adapter does this with the samsung cable but the samsung wall adapter doesn't, same with my car charger from att. Also I have a $5 walmart car charger that has a cable that splits into both a mini usb and a micro usb that isn't a real usb cable, it's charge only. That cable has no problem on any wall or car adapter. I believe the phone detects if its connected by checking voltage on a data pin (just a guess really) so if a nonstock charger is used it assumes that it is a computer. But it may also be a data signal that is given off by the charger.

did you try a new charger and if so, did it work? I've had my captivate since Thursday and on Thursday it charged and everything fine, but then yesterday,
a) no computer I connect it to while recognize it, no matter what I have it set too and have latest drivers installed
b) if I charge it, after I unplug it, it locks up to black screen and I have to remove the battery to get it to work
c) I also have an in-dash touchscreen monitor in my car that has a usb port because it works with an ipod. I plugged the usb into to use it as a car charger, unplugged it, same thing
d) it did say usb connected after it was unplugged, but I switched from mass storage to ask on connection and it went away
so is an actual wall charger the solution?

and now I unplug it, and if it locks, it will not unlock, just black screen
I have to take out the battery and then only way to get it to turn back on, is to plug it back in the wall

^^^Ouch that's not right, if you can't figure it out you may need to re-flash or just bring it back under warranty, or insurance

I had Recently received my desktop pc from the repair shop and i plugged it in and wanted to transfer some files..
When i did so my phone's display went off!
I immediately unplugged my phone from the computer and it appeared to be working fine. Afterwards i plugged my phone into the wall charger but there was no light and it did not charge! But once i switched off the phone with the charger plugged in the light next to the port turned on! But it did not charge! I kept it like this for an hour or so but it did not charge! But if i unplug it and put it back in when it is off... It switches on but does not charge! Right now the battery is completely drained and is not accepting any charge..
I believe this is because of some current overload in the front ports of the desktop. I tried to plug in my PSP to it through the same ports and it too shut down but is still functioning...
I am running Ultimate ICS 1.0
If you dare to you could try supplying the voltage directly to the battery contacts.
Grab an old USB Cable - get rid of the plug that doesn't fit in your charger and stuff the red (+) and black (-) wire in between the battery and the connector.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Hi there,
My phone is not charging very well, I knew I had battery issues so I recently purchased a new battery.
I have been using CM 10.2 nightlies.
The troubleshooting done so far:
Wipe data/factory reset
Install stable CM 10.1.3
Cleaned usb port
Changed from MTP to usb mass storage
New battery
Nexus 4 cable and charger
Note 2 cable and charger
SGS4 charge cable on PC usb
My phone is pluged and it discharges instead of charging, NO SERVICES OR PROGRAMS RUNNING
Screen off... it discharges to 1% faster
Should I run stock rom on this big ass boy?
Should I get a new USB port (I thinks this is it)?
Should I try a different kernel?
Or should I run a different radio?
Thanks in advance

How does it work while the Note is turned off ?
Does your Note recongnize if it is charging from USB or AC wall charger (must be on of course) ?
Your new battery is Samsung or OEM battery?

Had the same problem and the problem was due to damaged USB port. Change the USB port. Look up some tutorials and buy it from ebay or else where and do it yourselves. Its easy as pie. :good:

Galaxy Note 2 discharging if used while plugged in
My note 2 is charging very slowly while on (10% per hour), charges about the same pace when plugged in. Only just started happening recently, I suspect from the newest android update. on AC it used to charge while on in 4-6 hrs, depending on whether or not i was using it while plugged in. Did the cleaning battery / reset / clear cache etc and calibrated the device with Battery+ app. Phone still discharges at normal pace when not plugged in but 10 hours is a really effin long time for it to recharge, no?
I used to be able to use it heavily while plugged in and it would just stay level, and still charge on light usage. For it to lose charge while plugged in seems wrong.
So i am having this problem, wonder if anyone else is also. I reported it to samsung.
The problem is when using a car charge my phone will say charging like normal. BUT then it will says "powering connected usb device".
It will say this the whole time it is charging.
Its a 5v 2amp charger i am using a micro usb cable with the included usb c adapter.
I use the this same charger for my s7 edge without problems.
Now the kicker here. Once i unplug the note 7 from the charger it will keep to saying "powering connected usb device"
The battery icon will flip between the power out icon and normal battery.
The first time it did i had to reboot the phone so it would stop.
The next time it went away after a few minutes.
I havent try using a usb c cable, but will later today.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Its probably OS related or have something to do with the adapters.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem
The included micro-usb-to-usbc adapter seems to inhibit the charging speed. I used the adapter with an official Samsung Micro USB cable that came with my Note 5 and plugged it into a Samsung fast charger and the charging takes forever... Maybe you're experiencing a similar symptom?

Its possible. Today i drove for about 20mins and i didnt have this problem. It charged but only went up 3% more. I should of gotten at lest 5-6% with that charger (amount i would of gotten with my s7 edge, same charger in cable)
I will do a test today with the usb c cbale plug right into the usb adapter. I only have the one for the time being
Well the problem is still here.
My wife gotnher phone and the same thing.
She needed to charger her phone.
Plug it up and it says chaning connected usb device. Just stays on the screen for a while then goes away.
Now we got out the car and turn the car off.
Then phone lit up and says powering conntect usb device. Then my rasio started to boot up and ended up in a boot loop as long as the phone was connected.
So thephone was trying to power my car through the usb charger.
This is something samsung should fix asap. There should be an option to turn this off.
Ill have another chat with samsung
I updated my phone through OTA, but once i rebooted it aftet installing update, my USB port started to act strange. The phone takes 6 hours to fully charged ( with the same original power brick and cable) and also the cannot be recognized by any computer. OTG flash drives don't work anymore too.
Anyone else experienced these symptoms?

Bad wire...
You've lost a couple of pins... So you're not getting the turbo charger handshake... Further confirmed by loss of data to your PC...
Get a new wire... Make sure it specifies DATA/SYNC...
Unless you've burned up your turbo charger... Which I have heard of yet... Though I've broken the board in a couple of QC 2.0 compatible wall warts... But they just stop charging all together

Hey, I have the same problem but I bought and changed the cable USB so I solved the "problem".
This is weird but seriously I noticed this problem, Really I don't know.
Nexus 6 USB/charging port are this phones Achilles heel
I have recently resurrected my nexus 6 and found that it no longer gives me the turbo charger notification.

Fast charging notifications are ROM dependant. AFAIK, still not part of the stock ROM.
A way to tell what's happening is to use Ampere and look for ~ 1900 - 2200mA of current on the quick charger. ~ 500mA on a regular wall charger and <200mA on usb (computer) port.
The phone will only fast charge below a preset level. Somewhere around 80% the fast charge starts to slow down and that is reflected in the current measurement. By 85%, my N6 drops to ~1600mA.
If you go to settings -> battery while plugged into a wall (AC) charger and it shows usb charging, then check the cable and charger. Try different ones. If still it shows usb charging, then your phone charging port is messed up. I'd first try cleaning it.
If you can't remember the last time you cleared the caches (clean flashed) a factory reset might get things cleaned up as well.
If you're still using the original battery at this point in time, slow charging might just be a result of an old, expended battery.
