Hi y'all,
I'm currently using a Galaxy Nexus GSM version and I'm having the option to trade it along with 100 euros for an Xperia Z1 with 2 years warranty and no scratches at all. Before I had to buy the Galaxy Nexus (which is from someone else, it's not even new) I was using my beloved Galaxy S3. I loved it, but thanks to the crappy build quality of Samsung the display broke and the screen is black only now.
My question is, is it worth it to trade my Galaxy Nexus with 100 euros for an Xperia Z1 with 2 years warranty and no scratches?
Oh and by the way, isn't it strange? Because the Z1 is worth more than the Nexus and 100 euros..

100 Euros for a practically new Z1 with Warranty?
that would be a bargain in my opinion,
Just make sure the dealer is legitimate, and the phone is not faulty.

Yeah I find it a little bit strange that it's that cheap. There must be something wrong even though he said there's nothing wrong.
Is there anything I should check carefully?

Thank you both. I will check that.
What's weird as well is that we have set a time when I'm going to him to check the phone out, but he wants me to email him when I'm on my way. That's kinda strange huh?

So long as theres nothing wrong with the Z1 i'd say go for it, but if I may add another choice for you.
The oneplus one ! www.oneplus.net
Superb phone and only £269 for the 64GB version, once it's freely available i'll be selling my Z1 for it.
At the moment it's invitation only

That's true but when you consider you're getting a phone which beats anything hands down on the market today and you're paying half price for it, I think it deserves some serious consideration.
I'm already sold and I can't fault it, not to mention that it's customisable out of the box.
350 euros! That a brilliant price for that kind of a phone, how much was the note 3 in europe when it came out?
5.5 inches is too big, ideal size 4.7 inches...

Depends on the hand size really. If you have big hands 5.5 inches might be alright. If you have small hands 4.7 could even be to big. In my case I got relatively small hands but I can handle 4.7 inches. Friday I will get my Xperia Z (not Z1, sorry all of the Z1 forum ) and see whether I can handle 5 inches as well.

May be it is because of the confusion you are asking as you already have what was or is the good phone by Samsung (good coz comparing it with Note 2 & S3). This new phone has tempting and nice specs too. Hope it does not heat up (need to check in Nexus 4 section). i would go for it for sure if i had that much cash (even available on EMI)
There is a fading trend of mobile prices going down after launch of new model in the same series so waiting is not worth either.
Do you use the S-pen much ?
Do you like amoled or LCD ?
Are you okay with a (relatively) fragile glass back ?
Is 16gb of storage enough ?
Can you live with just a 4.7" screen ?
Do you like touchwiz ?
Answer these questions and you will know which phone you want
P.S.: By 26k, you mean the Flipkart pre-order ?

Well then, just buy it already !
BTW, if you're comfortable spending 10k more, I'd advise you to get the Xperia Z. Glass on that is much stronger than that on the N4. Development, of course, is better on the N4.
I'm in the market for an upgrade and am torn between the Xperia Z and the Nexus 4. Obviously the Nexus 4 has the advantages of cost and timely updates from Google. I've read a lot of professional reviews about both phones, but would enjoy the chance to hear from Xperia Z owners about why I should choose this device over the Nexus 4.
The main advantages that I can see are; the screen resolution, the LCD screen being better in direct sunlight, 4G, upgradeable storage, waterproof, arguably stronger to being dropped, better battery life, better looks. Of those the upgradeable storage seems like a large gain, and the waterproofing a nice novelty (unless it one day saves me I guess!)
I'd love to hear from anyone that wants to persuade me to spend a bit more cash and go for the XZ.
I sold my N4 and bought an XZ. The only advantage the N4 has is that it's a Nexus, I run Cyanogenmod though so that's pretty much a non issue for me. Also, the N4 has a much more active dev community. Obviously it's cheaper too. I prefer the XZ in every other way though.
If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
as the upper guy said go for the XperiaZ if u like giving your phone a shower every week
and have you checked ZL cause it is smaller with same 5inch screen
it's lighter also it has a better sound since its not rugged
Thanks for your reply about the ZL. According to the Sony website it's a few grams heavier but a decent bit smaller dimension wise. It's not available over here yet, but I'm going to keep an eye out for it.
I'd be interested to hear opinions about two issues that have come up in the reviews:
1) Software flaws that require the phone to be restarted to resolve
2) How the phone feels against your ear during calls - this sounds a bit of a strange one I admit!
Finally, does anyone have any information about the cost of Sony replacing the battery. Having replaced the battery (quite easily) on my Samsung Galaxy after about a year I'd be interested to know how easy/costly it is on a device such as this. I know Apple replace them on the iPhones for £55.
If it was my decision I would get a n4. Not only does it trounce the XZ in benchmarks but you get the vanilla android experience and you'll always be on the cutting edge when it comes to software updates. If 4G is a must then its the XZ you'll want although the hspa+ on the n4 is more than fast enough. Also, If you need the best shooter you can get then the XZ is also your best bet although again the nexus 4 is still not awful with its 8mp camera. Both phones will require a wipe down every once in a while due to their design (the nexus 4 has a gorilla glass back). I don't own a nexus 4 myself but quite a bit of my friends do and while only one of them has shattered the back cover, I've read many stories of people who absolutely despise the Nexus 4 claiming the back will shatter at the slight impact, however this can easily be worked around with a nice beefy case if you're worried.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I sold my iPhone 5 and brought a nexus 4.
I'm happy with it to a point but I'm really interested in the Z, I'm not sure why but it looks amazing.
I've never really played with a Z apart from a demo handset in phone shop but it looked wicked.
I think the main thing I got the nexus for was the updates, I'm happy with the performance of the phone, battery life could be better but apart from that, the nexus is a really good phone.
But if I had the chance to swap for a xperia Z then I would definitely swap.

I wouldnt make the jump or wouldnt pay extra 200 for XZ over nexus 4, its a good phone but not a lot of dev for it, so far we have 1 kernel developer and maybe 4-5 good roms dev after 3 months coming out. I dint think it was a big jump from S3 to XZ.
CM10.1 is on here but there are a lot of bugs including memory leak. XZ is comparable to N4 but I dont think it can compete with HTC one or S4 and thats coming from someone who own the phone for more than a month.
P.s Dont come on this forum and ask for opinion, youtube and look at your options, most on here are either Fanboy or Sony employee.

Nexus has price and Android Update on its side
on the other hands, XZ is more powerful, absolutely awesome design
that's all rest its bull****, you cant compare point per point every stuff
are you willing to spend over 500/600 euros for such mobile phone?
that's your first question to figure out
personally i m focused much about aesthetic and design, XZ is one of most if not the most beautiful smartphone ever made
it s even prettier than iPhone 5
focus on those things,
XZ = design and powerful
Nexus = quality / cost almost unbeatable, Android Update

That wasn't a memory leak though, it was a gpu scaling issue and has been fixed (for me at least). It was a very minor issue and I wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't pointed out.
Others have pointed out the price difference. This is absolutely right. Having the N4, if the XZ wasn't given to me, I wouldn't have gotten it. Between the 2, the N4 is half the price. If you're looking to spend money on one or other, the N4's definitely a bigger bang for the buck. While I do firmly believe that the XZ is a better all around phone, I can't honestly say that the differences you get warrant the additional 300 bucks.
Well I guess it depends on where you live but I'd only save 40SEK (About 6.50USD) A month on the Nexus 4.
And the salesman was really pushing the nexus4 so I guess it isn't to popular here in Sweden either. So the choice was easy for me.
Aannyyway, I went with the Z, obviously. Mostly for the water resitance as i broke my S2 from water damage and my arc got dropped once to (but it survived)
I love this phone, I don't have any issues with it. Except that you NEED to buy good screen protector, one with lifetime warranty perhaps.
You do not wan't to scratch the Anti-Shatter Filter. ( I actually returned mine because I did and got it replaced)
Thanks for all of your inputs. I feel a lot more informed, but I'm not sure if I'm any closer to making a decision.
The more I think about it though the more interested I am in the 'pure Android' experience. I might try and bide my time and wait and see if the S4 'Nexus' ships internationally, or if there is any noise towards the end of the year about a Nexus 5.

Xperia Z has open AOSP Sources, with time there will be a perfect AOSP rom, and the roms we've got now are perfectly fine, they're great actually, the Carbonrom is almost flaw free. and Cyanogenmod works great as a daily driver, few lag bugs and radio isn't working afaik.
I paid as much for the xperia z then I would for the nexus 4. And I get waterproof and bigger screen. So it was easy to make the call and expendable memory is nice too. Both would cost 300 euros. Defiantly the Xperia Z is the better phone for the same price.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I have a very similar question.
My white 16Gb Galaxy S3 2 years old, near mint for a Xperia Z about 6 months old I think. The Z is my brothers and he wants to sell it as he has got a ****ePhone to replace the Z. This will be a straight swap with no money involved.
I'm liking the Z and as with anything takes a bit of getting used to, but I can't decide if it's a good trade or not. I'm due an upgrade in april so do I hang on to the S3 or swap for Z and use it for 4 months until I can upgrade.
Opinions will be greatly received.
Hey guys
So the title says it all really
I can get both for around the same price, a couple of £'s here and there difference
I love the Xperia Z ultra because of the thinness of the device and how powerful it is, im not to fussed about the camera or that it has no flash. the battery life looks good too, and i must say the screen is the best feature with that X reality engine and Bravia engine, it looks amazing.
Bear in mind im getting either or after xmas, 6 months later im due an upgrade so should i go to a 5" device now and then bigger in June when my contracts up
I love the Xperia Z1 because its still pretty thin and has the same specs, battery life looks to be around the same, and that camera would probably come in handy eventually
what do you guys think?
Ive posted this in both Z1 and Z Ultra thread to get an idea of which to get
Jack
After I got the Z1 I had a feeling of going bigger and nearly swapped. The big one is cheaper to buy sim free but was dearer on contract. Thought I would like the pen writing thing and big screen but after watching a load of youtube videos it's just too big for me and my pocket. I realised when I was at shops and even z1 was stretching my pockets. Got over the idea now. Think I would need both and use z ultra like a tablet in the house. But then I would just get a tablet in the first place lol.

If you're upgrading in 6 months' time anyway, I'd say go for the Z1 now, being the more recent of the two, and see if you can get your hands on the Z Ultra 2 (or whatever the Ultra's successor will be called), which should be coming out roundabout that time.
If you don't care about the camera go now with an ultra. Now is a Google play edition and you'll not die forever like us to get a miserable 4.3. As you know the device is magnificent. If wasn't for the fact that I need a good camera. Ultra will be on close eyes my choice.

Once you go Samsung amoled on tablets you won't want to go back. Additionally, the screen aspect ratio 16:10 makes this the perfect video player. Points lost for horrible speakers. Minus the bloatware, this thing runs great.
Sony design have too much bezel for my liking. The only thing the z2 has that no other competitor have is water proof technology.
Amoled is nice but I would trade my Tab S for a Nexus 7 in a fast heart beat.

I've chosen Tab S. Sony makes great gadgets (Year ago I had Sony Xperia Z), but I don't like its tablets cause of awful big frames. Tab S has (imho) better display, thinner and has less weight. But as for its hardware... Well - everyone knows that it is not brilliant. But for me - its enough for my tasks.)

Take the tab s for instance; it has close to the perfect screen, but they made sure people would want to upgrade by putting in an already ancient chipset GPU and CPU wise. I love mine but I'm aware and pissed that it won't last as long due to that. Planned obsolescence.
With regards to the z2; if you don't use your tab, just look at the aesthetics or need to use it in the shower get the z2, otherwise it's no contest.

Amoled is nice but I would trade my Tab S for a Nexus 7 in a fast heart beat.

I have been on the AOSP build since the first build and that's the way android should be in my opinion. Thank you for the recommendation

10" tablets are optimized for landscape. They're fine in portrait for reading and browsing but they don't really perform well otherwise. I use my 10" tablet in portrait mode only for reading and using S Note and have never had anything near the lag shown in your videos. Chrome pretty much sucks on Samsung's tablets so what's shown in your first video is nothing new. I was at Best Buy today and wanted to see if their S floor model was as bad was what you showed in your second video. It wasn't. So I don't know what's going on either with your specific device or in your specific scenario.
As for Sony's designs I really don't get them. They make paper thin devices with humongous bezels so the h/w internals are spread out over a wide area rather than being stacked making the device a bit thicker. The Z tablet is bigger than the S which has a 10.5" display and huge compared to a Samsung 10" tablet which has the same size screen. I guess I'm just a form follows function kind of guy.
@BarryH_GEG
I don't have an issue using Chrome at all with my Tab S 8.4
It might have something to do with not running Touchwiz on it anymore. Got to love AOSP baby
