Need help with my phone - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this past weekend I was out camping. Me and my girl got into it so i started knocking down brews. In my state of drinking i put a pattern password on my phone, smoked a cigarette and when I went back to my phone the pattern password I had chosen did not work. I know setting a password while drinking isn't a good idea but i know without a doubt what i set my pattern to because i have used the same pattern since my first android. Anyways i have exhausted all attempts to get the pattern correct and i tried to sign in with my Google email and password, which isn't an issue. But remember I went camping and to save battery what did i do? Did things to save battery i.e. turn off WiFi and turn off mobile data. So i continue to try to get into my phone cause now I'm back home and i really need to get in to use my Square Enix Security Token in order to log into Final Fantasy XI (i know nerd). So I eventually got to the point to where i was ok with wiping the phone, i know my stuff gets backed up at least once a day so i'm not tripping over that. The issue I am now having is this. When i first got the phone on the sprint network everything was good. Later on down the line i had the phone flashed to straight talk. i didn't want to mess up anything to where it gets back on the sprint network but trying to reset what ever it was i was tinkering with just wiped my OS. So now i'm stuck and not knowing much about how to fix it. I want to also add I did not find/steal/jack/rob or come up on this phone, it was purchased from sprint like 2 months after it came out. I would also like to add that any help would be really appreciated and that i will most likely no understand all the lingo yall use. Almost forgot, the "S" is on, not sure what that is but i do know it suppose to be off. And if it makes things easier i think the guy who flashed it used team win project or something like that cause that what comes up on my phone.

U should prolly ask this question in sprint forum and u may just need to ruu ur phone back to stock.

Tilt - Autocomplete Has Stopped Working

Greetings,
I recently updated the stock AT&T ROM, and am a user of KaiserTweak.
Following my update to the new stock Tilt ROM, I no longer get autocomplete either when typing out a message OR (and this is the annoying part) when I want to send an email. Previously, I could enter the first letter and all of the entried beginning with that letter would come up.
Can any kind soul please let me know how I might be able to restore this? My current KaiserTweak autosuggest is set at 6. Of course, I am getting 0.
Thanks!
I recently had this problem with mine using Kaiser Tweak... Turn off XT9 in Kaiser Tweak if you have it enabled and then soft reset and it should work fine. This is what i did and my auto complete came back on no problems. If that doesnt work then I have no idea what it could be. Im still a noob.
SOLVED
That was it. XT9 is a 'advised' setting too ... YIKES.
well i didnt update the new att rom, nor do i use kaiser tweak. i just have stock everything & mysteriously my auto complete stopped working. well its not that it doesnt work, but there is a 15 second lag or something on it. and when it does work it pisses me off bcuz i'll click on the item i wanted to auto complete & it doesnt go away (bcuz the lag) so i'll click it & start typing the next word & it keeps adding the auto complete entry!
i've tried soft reseting, tried, cutting the phone off, and i've noticed i've just got a huge lag on the whole phone w/in the last hour or hour & a half. i cut the phone off & removed my sim & then started it back up & there is no lag whatsoever. could it be something that ATT is doing on their networks or something? pissing me off bad tho...bcuz i've been finding little POS problems day after day w/ this phone and when you spend that damn much money on one, you figure that you wont have to worry about all these little problems...and they add up to amount to one pissed off customer. hell if att had something else w/ wm6 & office & wifi, i'd be using it now instead of feeling like im getting shafted by purchasing this POS.
I understand that your phone is behaving in a way that you do not like. It is either:
1. a bad phone - take it back
2. it is behaving correctly and you do not understand it - in that case indicate here AFTER SEARCHING what your problems are and I am pretty sure that you can get them solved.
3. you have hosed something up - again AFTER SEARCHING ask and you shall receive.
As a newbie myself I have found this a wonderful wealth of knowledge. HOWEVER - if you do not TRY and helpyourself - put on your asbestos suit.
Now - it is entirely possible that you have purchaseda high maintenance phone that has lots of power that you do not need and should not have because it will take more than you want to invest in it.
Your decision.
(BUT - I would quit griping here because you will get VERY LITTLE sympathy.)

yeah i wasnt really looking for sympathy...but thanks for the tip, i'll digress prior to the rant next time. its just getting more & more frustrating. the purpose of my post was to in fact garner some sort of assistance in regards to the auto complete not working on the phone.
the other issues i've had w/ the phone are issues that are seemingly unable to be fixed. ie. the camera lag issues, the utilization of the phone as a 56k modem, or other things like that. i wouldnt say the phone is too much work for me as i dont mind putting forth the effort but it just makes me wonder how a phone can be sold so haphazardly without many of these issues resolved prior to it being released. /end rant
edit: i just wanted to shed more light in regards to the situation that i've found out. this is the only way i can replicate the issue.
i turn the phone on. go into messaging, its defaulted back to keyboard input, i change it to block recognizer. begin to input letters. no auto complete. after about 3 words, auto complete pops up. i click one of the options. it doesnt go away. i wait for the auto complete applet to leave. it does, i begin to type & at this point the lag has commenced. auto complete will not show up again unless i stop adding letters to the sms. when i do so, about 8-10 seconds later the auto complete pops up. i finishe the sms & send or cancel it. now everything is laggy. i cant access apps, if i lock the phone i cant unlock it. everything is frozen w/ an absurd delay, as in i've waited over 5 minutes & the unlock will not remove itself. the only thing that i can do is turn the screen off by clicking the power button. when i resume i get the top today bar and the bottom unlock bar, everything in the middle is blanked out. the only way i have been able to continue passed this point is to pop the sim door forcing it to cut the phone off, then replace the sim door lock. if i dont use the auto complete function on the phone i dont have any issues whatsoever. hopefully the added info helps. thanks.
After reading this I checked and autocomplete was not working! I recently updated Kaiser tweak and remember putting 6 words in. When I checked, it was set to 0 words. I changed it back to 6 words and is working fine again. Not sure how it got set to 0.

Would you be interested?

i was sitting here on XDA and i saw that a user here had his phone stolen from him, and people posted several solutions like GPSTracker and latitude but the user did not have either installed. would anyone be interested in a remote brick? basically it would be like SMS commander, but you send a text that holds a password and the correct brick phrase and the phone will brick. the best(and worst) way i can see to do this would be to have an old radio on the sdcard and have the haykuro SPL on there as well. then when the phone receives the text it flashes the old radio and then the haykuro SPL which we all know would brick the phone. i am still working on possible implementation or another way of doing this(maybe run "wipe all" in terminal), but i was just wondering if anyone would be interested before i really try it out.
maybe in future if app works well our ROM devs could include in their build and then it couldn't be removed(easily). the main reason i would want something like this is so if my phone was stolen i could make it useless to the idiot that stole it.
few minor details that would need to be worked out:
won't work if SIM is changed as number would be different
if i use the terminal command "wipe all" then theif would only need to have a new ROM to install and it would be all better
on the of chance you get the phone back you would want to be able to easily fix the phone
let me know what you think, keep in mind this is a very early stage idea and i haven't put more than 20 minutes thought into it
cant lie the idea is brilliant but execution would be the make or break point, and i have a feelin this will take alot of test g1's to get working lol...and multiple devs as a team to get up off the ground. But im all for it, i have had bad luck in the past especially with sidekicks and etc and this would be a perfect idea to have.
Great idea but don't forget when restoring it (if you manage to retrieve your phone), it should only 'unlock' to a certain pass phrase pre-set by the user. If not anyone could just run the 'unlock' command to start using it again.
On the whole, a great idea.
However, I think flashing an incompatible theme with your current build would be sufficient, seeing as 99% of the people who go around stealing phones would have no idea how to fix a G1 stuck on the T-Mo/Not-Flashing-Android Screen.
Although the Old Radio+New SPL combo ensures that there will be minimal data retrieval, it also seems like overkill for the majority of circumstances, seeing as your phone would become a paperweight.
The terminal command "wipe all" will wipe the data and system partitions and crash the phone, when the person who stole it tries to reboot it it won't boot
Even if you wipe (or remove the SD card) most builds would still boot regardless. A remote kill switch has been around on many platforms for some time, hell even Microsoft have been threatening to use it on Vista for pirated builds but it has never happened.
In this case, perhaps the app would need root access, so it could remotely reboot the G1 and run a script to force a boot loop, if you wanted to go as far as rendering the mobile temp unusable.
However the G1 as it is has plenty of security flaws... I mean many of us managed to get root without issue and I'm sure any google searches will point them to this forum. There is no security for fastboot, nor accessing the recovery image so people can pretty much do as they please - If they know how.
Yeah, I don't know about bricking the phone because it would suck if eventually you did get it back. Then you're stuck with a brick phone maybe theres away around it though which could work not sure how you'd implement this though. I mean the idea is there just going to be abit hard to execute because the problem is with all these theft problems, if they have the phone off when the sms is sent then it doesn't work.
I wouldn't mind having this. If someone snatched my G1 out of my hands and got away, I would just use my friend's cell 1 minute later to make my phone a paper weight, then have peace of mind. lol

i am noting the issues, what i am planning is something similar to SMS commander, when the phone gets a text that says a certain thing it does something. if the phone is off then the text will still arrive when the phone is powered on, hell i could probably even remove the recovery screen and then the person would need to fastboot the phone.
sms commander just "listens" for the text of an incoming message and if it matches a certain phrase it runs a command. obviously i would need root, but at this point if you haven't rooted your phone this(if it works) woulud do it.
with that said, i am researching the APIs to see what would need to be done, i used to have something like this on my old 8525 and i never had to use it, but i'm paranoid about stuff like this
i love this idea, there was this time when i had sold my touch pro on craigslist but the buyer had ripped me off! so that just pissed me off!
(good name ideas)
Cold-Droid
Lock Me
Ban-Droid
Dream Lock
Use me...Not!
Where's My owner
or just a plain app called
"Brick"
This app would be cool if it detected the owners sim card so if it were ever replaced it would say wrong sim card enter passkey (which they will not know)
and if they were to ever put the sim card back in then still it will tell you(sim card has been removed please eneter passkey)
or something like that! just an idea!
kind of like sim lock but instead of sim being locked, the device will be locked!
Why you would want to destroy a phone?
Just remote wipe your data, thats enough. Write that as an app!
Not bricking!
Have you guys used/considered Mobile Defense?
So here is my idea for this application.
Instead of completely bricking the phone, make it so that if the SIM card is removed, or the secret SMS message is sent that it does a complete phone lock and displays a message on-screen stating "This phone is suspected to have been lost/stolen. Please call XXX number to return the property.". All the while sending precise GPS locations updated every x minutes to a preset Email address and/or send a SMS to a preset phone number. This way the real owner may be able to easily recover the phone and none of the information is exposed. The only way to unlock it is to put in a code to unlock it. After x amount of days without being recovered, the program will issue a recoverable brick all the while showing the same message. After x more days after the soft brick, the phone will format all ROM and be unrecoverable. By that time, the real owner would have already gotten his/her replacement G1 if they had insurance, and the thief will have a fancy paperweight.
Great idea
Is this going to get anywhere?
that'd be funny if you could lock the phone at a screen that has a customized text.
Like F**K YOU B*TICH
or maybe
If Found Contact -
ETC. and it just stays at that screen. wonder if thats possible
edit- i shoulda read page 2 haha. same idea as Setnev lol.

[Q] a quick bypass of pattern lock

Recently my BFF thinks that her boyfriend is starting to lose feeling for her and start finding other girls. She wants to break up but her boyfriend won't let her go unless she provides evidence that he is losing feeling/cheating on her. She asked me to help but I'm at a loss except for one idea.
It was recently reported in the newspapers that you could bypass all security by freezing an android phone for an hour, then quickly removing the battery and putting it back on and turning it on while it was still below -10 degrees celcius. Is this really possible?
Secondly, his phone is a Galaxy Mini with whatever is the newest firmware (I'm a galaxy Mini II user so I'm not too sure), stock kernel, stock ROM, non-rooted but bootloader i think by default it's unlocked in SG. (mine came unlocked). It's been in use for quite some time only.
If the freezing is not possible, could we do it by any other method? note: before i can get pass the damn password i can't turn adb, unknown sources or debugging on.
Yeah that's all. Also, we can't wipe the /data since that's what we're gunning for. The method must be accomplish-able within 2 hours.
I might sound like I'm asking for a lot and might be unreasonable but please help.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Please don't talk about the "just break up" or "politely ask him". If that had worked I wouldn't be asking here. He refuses to break up and he refuses to give his phone to me, even to "play". so called ethical hacking through the human link doesn't work anymore. We plan to take his phone for a while, bypass the pattern lock, then sieve through information.

ADB isn't on, well i think somehow exploit might work. Search around XDA there are some tutorials here.

Erm sorry i'm not sure what do you mean by exploits. I'm sorry I'm kinda new to all these stuff.
How do u know that the phone is not "Debugging On"
Most android users are turning on that feature.
Well if the Debugging is ON ... I got the way to unlock the pattern within 1 minute.
Fastest way to bypass: Wipe data. If you can't, there are only harder ways.
Factory reset
You can always do a factory reset to remove the lock but it will wipe /data. You can still do that tho. It's explained here : http://www.hard-reset.com/samsung-gt-s5570-galaxy-mini-hard-reset.html . Also the fastboot mode works with adb swell as download mode.

My Phone Erased Itself?!?

I was minding my own business grilling hamburgers for family and friends this afternoon when I thought, "my phone seems awfully hot in my pocket, what's up?" I took it out to see the dreaded green Android and the word "Erasing". It was already too late to do anything... it took another 20 minutes or so and sure enough it rebooted into the setup screen as though I had just done a factory reset.
Anybody have a similar experience? At this point it's clearly been erased, there's nothing to do but set it up again and back up more regularly, but what happened? No way did I press the boot loader button combo this afternoon. My boot loader is unlocked and I dirty flashed LMY47Z about two weeks ago but no other notable changes recently.

Al kidding aside, never heard or read of a `premature` wipe. You must have a wild and active life to be abe to do that
I'm sure you have heard the expression "butt dial" when you mistakenly dial a number while the phone is in your pocket? Well, you just did a "butt wipe"!

That just gave me a good laugh, thanks!
But seriously, to the OP does anyone have your gmail password? Because you can remote wipe a device using Android Device Manager.
I setup my friends phone for him. We both pull pranks on each other so to get him back for letting all the air out of my tires while my car sat in my garage I remote wiped his phone on his way home.

Nobody has my password and I use two factor Auth for my Google account so I really don't think so. I logged in to the device manager site to see if anything looked suspicious but there's no history of activity or anything like that.
It must have been a "butt wipe" as the other post said! [emoji23] wish I could figure out how it happened though.

Very unsettling. Now you're always going to be paranoid with that phone.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Forums Pro.
Well, our phones can locally wipe back to default state if a security code is incorrectly input 10 times in a row, I believe.
It's possible that you *did* butt wipe, I'm thinking.
- ooofest
Similar Case
This is one of the cases when you have a big string which gets inputted by the emergency call keypad. That screen matches with the butt wipe code of Android making the device in erase mode. I got the reason.
I travel a lot and always have the phone in my pocket so can someone tell how to switch off the emergency keypad.
Turn off ambient display and the phone won't wake in your pocket
I thought I did this once bit it was actually that I had switched user profiles by clicking on the blue figure circle in the notification panel. Check to see if you are signed into your account or more than likely your guest account.
You better hope you mistakenly did it or it could be remote code execution that might have caused the wipe by a third party.
Are you running a custom ROM. If no and you're running some variation they have security features in it now like most other devices that too many incorrect password attempts will wipe the phone more than likely what it happen
I just realized someone revived a dead thread lol. All of us saw the action and tried to help him.

Can't Unlock Samsung S10 - forgot pattern

I'm really hoping someone can help me. I have the Samsung S10 from Verizon, and recently had to change my lock pattern (to unlock the phone to be able to do anything). I did it late at night and honestly can't remember what pattern I set up. I have fingerprint and facial recognition setup, but it doesn't even attempt those, as if it isn't an option at this point. Right now, each time I attempt to unlock my phone, it won't allow me to try again for over an hour, and it adds on more time each time I mess up the pattern. I've called Verizon and Samsung. Verizon told me that I had to call Samsung, and Samsung said they couldn't help me. The closest Verizon store is about 1.5 hours away. I'll probably try to go tomorrow if I don't get anywhere. But so far, it isn't looking good, and this is insane to me. I can't believe no one can help me get into my phone. But then I remembered these forums have been EXTREMELY helpful in the past. I'm wondering if anyone has a solution or can offer some help. I've considered rooting the phone (or whatever people call it these days) but that will void my warranty. I was dumb enough to have never written down passwords, so I pretty much can't access any website (that requires a username and password) because all my info is stored in my phone. I can't even get into my email. If any of you great people think you can help me out, I'm open to all suggestions! Thank you!

I’ve never had a problem like this, so solutions I can only be guessed at.
Try install Stock ROM with Odin. Download last version with Frija. You will lose all settings and Android will be installed at the factory settings. I think you can turn off your phone, enter the Download mode and install Android with Odin. Or if you can enter Recovery mode, go to wipe data / factory reset and restart phone. I don't think you will lose your phone warranty.

Hi Emmie, I have exactly the same problem with my S10+ in the UK. Created my pattern late last night and forgot it too! Samsung here are saying they can't do anything except a factory reset but I have around 15,000 pics/vids saved! I'm happy for it to sit there for years whilst a solution is found as long as I don't lose my data. I don't understand why face recognition stopped working nor why it keeps increasing the time between attempts. I hope nothing worse happens as it doesn't warn how many attempts I have left so I just keep trying every 17 minutes now!
