[Q] Dialer slow to start call - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The last few days my dialer has been ridiculously slow in making a call. Typing in numbers is fine and accessing the call history is also fine but if I touch an entry to start a call it takes anywhere from 10-20 secs for the call to start. Oddly enough this issue is not present when using car dock mode.
Has anyone come across this before and found a solution?
BTW I am on stock 4.4.2
Thanks

I should probably mention what I have tried already
- Deleted call history
- Cleared data and cache from the phone app
- Turned off a tasker profile I had that involved dialing a number
- Uninstalled recently installed apps
- Turned off fast boot and restarted (this actually helped for a short while but it has reverted)
Any other ideas? I am reluctant to do a hard reset but if nothing else works then I might just do that or upgrade my phone since I am due an upgrade soon

No, not yet. I am hoping to avoid that if possible

Anyone else have any ideas? The issue is not with the dialer but quite literally with the phone app although as I mentioned in my OP, if I select a number to be dialled from the dialer in the car dock app, it works fine. Very perplexing!

For anyone who might be experiencing the same issue, whilst I have not fixed it I did find that if my phone is connected to a network (either via wifi or mobile data) the issue disappears. I don't know why that happens but it is a least a bit of a workaround

[Q] Phone kinda reboots with incoming call

I upgraded my Captivate to gingerbread/talon/continuum yesterday.
That went fine and everything was hunky dory.
Phone was working fine the whole day today, incoming/outgoing calls, data.
I came home and installed Skype and thats when all hell broke loose.
Now the phone part is dead (kinda!). I can make calls fine but if I get a incoming call, the call gets disconnected after 1 ring and I get a msg popup (like some error) but I cant really see what the message is.
I also noticed that it disconnects me from ATT network when a call comes in and then after a little bit it reconnects.
I also verified this by going to the About->Status screen and then making a call.
It normally says ATT but for a couple of secs after call drop it says 'Unknown'.
What did I do to screw it up and how can I fix it?
Thanks
Glaring obvious first question -- did you try uninstalling Skype to see if that resolved anything?

Sorry, I should have added that to my first post.
Yes, I did uninstall Skype and reboot the phone, just incase, but no difference.
Still the same.
Update:
After playing around with various things for a couple of hrs, I finally gave up and reflashed Continuum.
Everything started working again.
Applied my Ti backed up config and loaded Netflix. Same problem. Dialer died with an incoming call.
I reflashed Continuum again and everything started working as expected.
I then applied my Ti backup, still everything working.
I am in the process of updating all my apps and then lets see if everything is still working.
The only thing that is missing for now is the Netflix app.
I will keep everyone updated if its the Netflix app causing the issue or its the Skype.
activemind: Keep us posted if you find a cause. I am on a Samsung Vibrant (3g) via TMOB but have been having the same issue today with a completely different rom (simply honey). This is actually about the 6th thread I've found in the past two days having this same issue on Galaxy S phones.
I have had this problem before and what caused it was restoring system data with titanium. Make sure you are only restoring apps.

[Q] Problems with whatsapp on z3c

Hi guys,
Has anyone had any problems with whatsapp on our phone? The app seems to get killed somehow when the phone goes to sleep, so I don't receive any messages until I open it up. I've not got any powersaver modes running and background data is allowed etc etc, it's getting very annoying and i'm sure the phone is killing a background process but can't work out how to fix it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
I had a similar issue with hangouts but I cleared cache and data and it worked again. maybe give this a shot for whatsapp
Sent from my D5803
No problem at all.
I use stamina mode all the time, excluding Gmail, Whatsapp, Timely and Cerberus, and I receive emails and messages.
My firmware version is 23.0.A.2.98
I have stamina mode activated all the time but whatsapp works great
Thanks for your replies, i don't what the problem is. The same thing happens if i am in stamina mode (with the app whitelisted) or not in stamina mode.
I have tried re-installing, clearing cache and data etc but the problem perists. I guess i will have to ask the app developers, presumably they will blame the phone

When you notice it start happening, check the "running apps" in settings. Do most of them show "restarting" etc? I think I have the same issue. It looks like a memory leak on my side.
I've seen similar to this but I think it might also be related to when other people have a connection. My wife has issues with her work wifi and sometimes I only get her messages once she's back on our home network. I see the time stamp in whatsapp as the time she originally wrote the message...
Thanks - will check that next time i see it happening, it doesn't look like it has restarted recently but possibly was "pausing". I've restarted my phone now so all processes are on the same clock so i can spot any breaks easier next time

Cheers but seems not likely as messages from multiple contacts appear at the same time when i open the app, so the problem must be on my end
Quick update, i've had the problem happen again and checked the running apps, there was no pause happening. Even this morning on the train i was looking at the internet, so my phone was connected to data and obviously not asleep and i got no messages. Later on, i opened the app and a message appeared, sent at the time i was looking at the internet. I'm flummoxed. Will raise a support call and update if i have any luck

P20 Pro Vibrates Randomly

So, over the last few weeks I've found that my P20 Pro vibrates for no (known reason), every now and again. Usually multiple times per day.
I've tried turning it off and back on, killing the apps, checking for updates, turning notifications off on most apps.
Has anyone had a similar problem and /or has any way of diagnosing or fixing it?
I have experienced the same thing, so you're not totally alone if that helps. I haven't found the cause yet either. I suspect it might be WiFi+ vibrating when the source switches back and forth so it'll happen in stints for me.
i have the same thing and i think i might found the reason, i have some muted WhatsApp chat groups and it seems like that every now and then when i get messages in these groups my phone vibrates although i muted them . There is no notification but a short vibration.
Another thing that bothers me more is when receiving an whats app message my phone vibrates once short and after that the way i set it up in the settings...
I begin to get it after an update. hope to see a solution soon.
No
I believe I've found the cause and solution to the Huawei mate 20 pro random vibrations.
I installed a notification logger from the play store and found that it was logging notifications of repetitive image downloads completing that lined up with every buzz.
If you go into settings, apps and choose to see system apps in the menu, you can force close the download and download manager apps. If you then clear the data and cache from each, you should find the phantom notifications stop.
I haven't had one in days now, and it was all the time.
I hope this is of help.
This happens to me a lot. Its mainly due to voice recognition thinking I'm am speaking to the phone. It happens randomly when watching TV, at work on even in the train. There's no specific key work that triggers it,. It happens at random. This is my issue with the random vibration but your could be a different reason although

Mine was definitely the download manager continuously redownloading Google photos images. Force stop, clear data, clear cache of the download and download manager system apps and mine has been fine now for a week. Try it!
Had the same issue months ago. Cleaning cache and data of stock download manager app solved it for me.
Mine started doing same yesterday ?
I have the mate 20 pro, and it's just started randomly vibrating with no notification
So my phone is now starting to randomly vibrate like bursts of short vibrations that last a while, but there's no notifications or anything? I don't know how to find the "download manager" to check if it's that. I'm not sure which apps to force stop. It's really annoying though.
Do you use Textra? Happened to my wife's s8 and she just uninstalled then reinstalled Textra to make the problem go away.
I have cleared the download manager and everything else several times, but it only works for few days even hours and starts again. I'm not sure if it activities itself again after I download something, but nevertheless, this just shouldn't happen. How can I disable download manager permanently (or preferably just the vibrations, as I assume DM is there for a reason)
Had the same issue. No problem from textra, for me it was google drive. I uninstalled it, cleared cahe and data and I am now using OneDrive. I haven't experienced any random vibrations since then.
Mate 20 X had similar issue after EMUI 9.1 upgrade and turned out to be contacts sync system app constantly trying to sync contacts. Force stop and cleared data and all good now.
I have the same issue on regular mate 20 since the last software update to EMUI 9.1.0. All the suggested solutions here did not resolve the issue. If someone has more suggestions please share
I fixed it. It's a system application called "Contacts Sync" disabling it solved the issue for me.
Settings > apps > show system processes > search for Contacts Sync > disable and force close it

This didnt work for me, but i found another solution. I stopped almost all apps from autostart. except email and messangers. that immediately solved the issue and the phone boots much faster as well, nice sideeffect
You need to go into battery usage and then click on the individual app, then app launch.
I hope that helps

I just noticed this on my mate 20x on 9.1 on vibrate mode. Did your solution permanently resolve this issue or do you have to do it multiple times or after restarts?

Notifications Issue

Is anyone having issues with their notifications not coming through, or coming in super late, or having the same notifications coming up over and over? I'm expecting all three problems, it seems to be happening with every app for me except for calls and text. I factory reset the phone but that didn't fix the issue. If I restart the phone, then all my notifications that haven't physically gone into the app to check start pouring in. No idea what could be causing the issue and it's really starting to piss me off. I have already sent my phone in for repair cause my LTE data stopped working for no reason. I don't think both issues are related as I do have LTE data after they replaced some part.
Would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks.

I had notification delays with gmail app, fixed it by turning off battery optimization for this specific app.

Some people may have battery saver on and this may cause late notifications. Also check in settings "auto sync", under accounts. I did have some late notifications issue with Gmail app and do know battery optimization usually is the cause, but it went away in couple of days after I bought the phone.
Thank you for the suggestions. I ended up turning on high performance mode. Let's see if that helps.

How'd this work out for you? This phone is horrible for notifications for me. It constantly doesn't send them until I actually pick up my phone, then suddenly I'll get 5-10 notifications at once. I've turned off EVERY bit of power saving that I can find. I only run in high performance mode 24/7 with all adaptive battery, power optimization, auto app sleep, etc turned completely off. I've also tried disabling all power saving and sleep in the specific app pages as well. I need to be more observant, but I think this is mostly with push notifications (ex, my 2FA app for work) rather than apps with timers to check for updates occasionally. I also have an issue with my wifi disconnecting while the screen is off sometimes which is highly annoying since my home presence detection is based on my phone being on the wifi, though last time it started doing that a reboot fixed it.
Unfortunately, a search proves that this is a widespread issue. At this point I've pretty much given up on this phone and am looking to replace it as soon as I find a suitable alternative. I'm just curious if it's a Samsung issue or a Pie issue that will occur on other phones as well.

Seems to be a general issue with android. Mine have gotten better recently. In addition to turning off battery optimization for any apps I want notifications for, i have done the following:
1. Wiped cache (under settings/app/storage), then rebooted into recovery mode and wiped the cache partition.
2. Gone into the setting and made sure apps I want notifications for are allowed to run in the background (settings/apps/select app for notifications/battery).
3. Allowed to run in background when on mobile networks (settings/apps/select app/mobile data/Allow Background Data Usage.
4. Gone into messages/settings/more settings/push message/changed toggle from "Prompt" to "Always".
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I'll give some of those a try. I also got a VZW update with the May security patch among other things right after I posted that, so we'll see if that helps at all also.

It's gotten better for me. I enabled high performance mode but I had to keep going in and checking it a couple days after still even though it was enabled. Been a couple weeks now and the notifications I was missing before all seems to be coming in fine now. Time will tell though I guess lol
Are you also having trouble with apps updating? That was another problem I was having where I'd see apps needing to update, I'd start "update all" one app would download and then get stuck at 99% and it would just stay like that for about 40mins and prevent the other apps from updating. Then finally when it would finish the next one would do the same. It would literally take hours upon hours for 12 apps to update when it should only take a couple mins. That issue seems to be fixed for me now too.

BUG | Can't answer incoming calls

Hi folks,
I've the weird bug that sometimes I can't answer an incoming call. The accept button is not reacting if I'm trying to press. I don't think this has something to do with the touch, since I can see that the green button is getting greyed out as soon as I press on it. The only workaround seems to be a restart.
Did any of you had the same issue? What would be the best solution for that? For the record: I'll factory reset my device soon, but maybe this is a software bug or sth.
Thanks!
Update: Did a factory reset. Before I did a backup with HiSuite and restored the data (would not recommend since it doesn't restored all the apps) but the issue still occurred a few calls later. I hope this will be fixed with the next update.
Similar issue
Hello did this problem still occur? I have a similar issue where I recieve an incoming call with the ringtone but it doesn't appear fully in my screen like a phone calls does. Instead it appears when you slide down to check notifications in your phone and it disappears and reappears while the call is coming through. I also cannot accept the call as it doesn't seem to work, I have restarted my phone 3 times since and nothing changed. Also this morning while I was in the phone to one person, for 2 seconds it disconnected and stated calling another contact. I did think about factory resetting but I'm not sure if I should do or not. Never had a problem with my handset up until now.

exactly the same problem occured to my P20 lite today. The more: at my outgoing calls I can get a connection, but when I put the phone on my ear the screen goes dark and lit periodically as if I touched it (in fact by face but it didn't do it this way in the past, the phone "recognized" the touch by cheek). It is similar to on/off switching of a notification tab when call is incoming. I was recommended to make a factory reset by a support guy at O2.

Hello!
Had the same issue with friends Huawei P20 Lite with the incoming call showing only on notification bar, flickering and reapearing all the time. Found something that could help you out, worked for my friend so maybe you can try too. Go to Settings-Apps-Apps(again)-3 dots on right upper corner-Show System Processes From here find 3 apps (Phone, Phone Services and Phone/Messaging Storage). Open each up, press - Force Stop, then press Storage and Clear both (Cache and Data). Should be it. Then try to call your phone from different number to check if it helped you.
My p20 lite started with this yesterday too. Unable to answer calls or hang up. Flashing screen. I had to do a full back up using HiSuite and then restore to factory settings. I've used HiSuite to restore my phone but I can't get the apps to work properly. I wonder if there has been an update that has screwed everything up.
try this
