I need to find a way to copy files for Dropbox or Google Drive to my phone. Samsung doesn't allow this in 3rd party file managers like ES File Explorer.
Can anyone please suggest a workaround or app that would make this happen?
Rant: I can't believe Samsung took this away. I feel more and more like iPhone users the more I use this phone. Rant over.

it's not samsung that took it away it's 4.4 kitkat that disabled it and as far as i know there is no workaround without root
I'm unroot ed and use root browser. It works great for me. Give it a try man.

there are workarounds yes, but third party apps such as dropbox or google drive will not save to the external sdcard only to internal memory, esfile explorer works great to copy files to and from the external sdcard.

I am not sure what the other two apps are but I copied pasted this from the middle of a thread... and since its always being asked figured I would make it easy to find!!!
Anyother Bloatware thats removable without messing up the system can be posted here and I will edit this beginning post to include it
oh and if you know what those two are please let me know and I will add it in
You can remove the Cricket apps using Uninstaller for Root.

You can also remove the NuAnce voice control but I recommend backing the bloat on the SD card.

I meant whats the file names for the bloat apps...
I dont like uninstaler for root...way to easy to hose a phone as there's no confirmation... you click something on accident its gone.. which is going to lead to a ton of uninstaler/bricked phone threads
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
If you dont like Uninstaller for Root have fun deleting the bloat with something else. I only recommend it because it is alot easier to find MyBackup than it is to find something like coconut_cricket_prod_a2.0_v1.31_aligned.apk not only that but it lets you backup apks to sd card if you hold the app with a long tap
If you want to be brave you can find the apps in /data/FLEX/app/

It's a matter of preference. Both do the job. One is not better than the other. Anyone using either should know the risks.

Is it really that great? Can't you perform some of the same functions in Root Explorer or any other root file mgmt type apps? Just curious. I may take advantage of it being free.

If you don't have this app get it. One of my favorites. Period.
P.s. You should add the app name to thread title.

yeah I was wondering the same =P
It is not a file manage. It is a well made folder/app organizer. Allows custom icons and skins for folders and apps.

How often do you guys use an app like APK Extractor? Often?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Never heard of it. What does it do?
If it's for sharing apps, theres always play store, you just send a link, paid apps check for play license anyway, so it's no use.
Not very regularly.Only when I need it I use it. But it is really a great app.
Close to daily. Then bluetooth it to my phone with ES File.
Sent from my Motorola XPRT
Is there a way to build the functionality of it into a ROM? Basically streamline the process of copying an app that you could then share. As an example; I use APK extractor to get an apk then send it to my phone or vice versa.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Don't use it personally as I can use ES to browse to the file and share it that way, but I could see it being useful.
I share apps if they are unsupported on a device because more than likely they work anyway.
*Sent from Nexus S*
I use es explorer in built app manager to make a backup of the app (which only copy the apk to a backup folder) then put it in a zip and send it over Bluetooth (the zip part is because some roms can't send or receive apk files on Bluetooth) the unzip it, install and profit

I don't like ES.
So don't jump ship because lots use it.
FX Filexplorer (NextGenApp) I think its called is BRILLIANT!!!
Also ROM Toolbox Pro is amazing. File browser, ad blocking, app manager (backup, restore, share, freeze, etc), cpu control, scripting, you name it, it's got it.

I haven't used root explorer in ages so it might have these included now.
I have file shares on my network and find es better to browse them say plex.
It also can give you direct folder access to drive, Dropbox, and box.net
I also have a private music server and es let's me ftp into and copy files over on the fly
There's probably a lot of other great apps that can do this I just never tried cause es always worked

I have tried ES before in my s3 and couldn't figure out how to access my SD card.
Also I know if you stick mp3 files on Google Drive, you can't download them. Is that possible through ES?

My HD is starting to get a bit too full for comfort. Does anyone know of a free utility or way to find out what the largest files and folders are and delete them? I'm looking for something similair to ES File Managers SD Card Analyst. I thought Explorer might work, but it doesn't sort folders by size, only files. Many thanks in advance.

It seems like it might work. If I could figure out how to use it for what I wanted. At this point it just seems to be a slower Windows Explorer.

Do a Google search for treesize free. It takes a while to calculate the size of the folders, but everything will. There's no quick way to do it.

Thank you guys. I'm trying Teesside first. If that doesn't work as I would like, I'll give WinDirStat a try. Thanks for the help.

So in short I have a couple of revealing pics of my girlfriend and a movie of her stripping, LOL... On my old phone I was able to make a folder, place a file in there called .no media and it would hide everything...
The .nomedia works for the pictures now but the one video still appears. How can I hide this as well?

Rename the extension of the video to something that isn't a video. e.g. .mpg to .bak
use root explorer to open when you want to watch -> open with certain app.
Yea no problem, I'll go ahead and send them right to you... Will the movie still work if I rename it to a .back file?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app

Apps use extensions to identify what files they should open, they do not mean that they can only open those files. So yes, just rename, open it with, and then pick your favorite video app.
I would like to know also. on the g3, i was able to lock the pictures/videos with a password. Im sure there are many apps that can do this, but which is the best?
Such a hassle. Renaming it didn't work I'm not sure why. I just deleted it. I see my girlfriend without clothes on enough anyways
