[HW MOD] Proprietary LG G FLEX USB 3.0 connector - LG G Flex

Discussion forum for the new proprietary USB 3.0 connector (with additional hidden pins inside the standard micro USB 2.0 port) on some of our LG G Flex's.
Yes, many of us have this brilliantly designed, very unique, 11 pin micro USB connector on the LG Flex (and LG G2). Take a look inside of the connector on your own phone, do you see extra gold pins set back further inside? This connector is NOT the hideous dual-head connector that we have seen on the note 3, LG's is much more compact and discrete. On the surface it looks just like a regular micro USB 2.0 port, and yet it is 100% backward compatible with micro USB 2.0 connectors, which is why it has gone unnoticed!
This same discussion is also going on in the LG G2 foums, follow here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2757820
What we need from you:
Does your phone have the new connector?
Have you tried to hardwire the interface to see if it is functional?
Can anyone find the mate for this new micro USB 3.0 connector?
I plan to update this page to reflect the discovered info from the G2 forum as well, stay tuned!
----------------------------------------------
Below is a hand drawing of this new micro USB 3.0 connector, compared to the standard micro USB 2.0 connector. I have plans to update the drawing in time, since I later discovered that there is only one notch in the new design, as opposed to the drawing showing two notches passing through the new connector.

First and Second photo:
This might be the supplier of the correct part, although they do not show a mate to the connector on alibaba, I have contacted and received a reply, still working out details and getting past language communications barrier.
Third photo:
Showing the 11-pin micro USB 3.0 connector on the Flex

Follow this company for the connector! They are releasing a 4k Slimport video-out adapter. This will likely use the new LG 3.0 connector, and notice right on the website that they show a demo of the LG G flex (which also has the 11-pin 3.0 connector) paired with a 4k tv!

We are almost there, LG is going to have a big win with SlimPort, maybe that is why they are waiting to announce the new USB port.

What I want to do is find a nice hub that's really small and I can power from my Mili Power Crystal, then I can power the hub from the battery which should provide easily enough power to spin up my WD Passport HDD.
It'd be both mobile, and functional. I just havn't found a nice, small, externally powered hub yet.
If I need large portable storage I'd go with this or something like this.

i have not tried i yet but the adapter also has an micro usb port
you should be able to charge it while you have your usb HD conected.
but one problem with this adapter is that its blocking the headphone jacket.

Not a good idea, when in host mode, the device outputs power on those pins as opposed to accepting power, at best, it won't work, at worst you could do damage.

lol ok thanks for that
i will not try it
Damn, that adapter looks awesome!
Can you confirm it that it has a microSD slot so you can simply put a 32/64GB card in AND also connect say a mouse or keyboard or something to work?
Here is an quivelant device:
Samsung S2 & S3 Multi-functional 4 in 1 Connection Kit : USB /SD Card/Micro SD/Micro USB Inputs
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S2-Multi-functional-Connection-Kit/dp/B006MJZOMW
It seems that only one port at a time can be used. Quote from a user review "Only 1 port works at a time, so you cant have the SD, microSD, and a USB device in at the same time, only 1 shows up on the SIII"
Another user attached a powered USB hub to enable multi concurrent device connections. Quote "Then I was playing around and plugged a small 4 port powered hub, into the full USB port and hooked a keyboard mouse combination endgame controller on my 5.3 Note."

Sir before you do anything else. Look up Samsung MHL Micro usb 11 pin.
Have been looking for a true 11 cable of any type for some time now. Seems only thing on the market are converters to 5 pin. Thoes will be useless to your needs unless you want to solder.
Yeah , they dont mention the pin ...must be 5 pin ...I am looking for a 11 pin . haven't found one yet .

Here you go! It's not cheap though. usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-mhl-ext-xxg.html 6" $18.00, 12" 18.50, 6' $19.50
Ordered mine today 6' variant. It's back ordered to Sept. 13 I'll update this post when I receive and test the cable.

Did you get the cable and did it work? Still looking everywhere for a MHL 11pin extension cable. How long did it take for shipping too?

No the cable did not work. I would guess it was because of the cables length and something about the mhl frequency. The seller had an error in his first first batch and delayed mine for a month.

KiDiGi OMNI LC-UMB Rugged Case Compatible Galaxy S6 Charging Dock

Because of my issues I'm having with wireless charging pads and docks, I'm considering this universal dock to replace the one I've been using.

The best part of it is that it is a true universal dock, with the Micro USB connector being able to pivot forward and backward, as well as the unique ability to raise and lower the connector by turning a dial on the back of the dock:
My current universal dock just can't be modified enough to fit my S6 Edge with a very thin case on it, but this looks like it will fit just about anything. They also offer it with a reverse connector for those phones with the USB connector facing the opposite direction (Google, HTC, Windows, OnePlus).
They can be found for purchase on sites around the world, I don't work for the company, I'm not posting any links directly to product pages. Their own website incorrectly lists the LC-UMB as a fixed dock compared to this adjustable one, so there may be some issues with posting a link anywhere anyways.
Looks great, what are your thoughts?
Is this Dock compatible with fast charging?
I have a few Myrin Charging cradles which has been compatible with all my Android phones and tablets but it uses it's own propriety USB cables which does not support fast charging. Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330827203249
it looks okay

I'll let you know soon! I have my Fast Charging adapter in my charging valet right now ready to go for when this arrives, and hopefully it will "pass through" the charger. In the past, my Seidio Innodock Jr would allow the previous king of USB adapters, the OEM Samsung 2.1A that came with the S5, to charge the device at 1900mAh as read from the Galaxy Charging Current app, so that's about as good of a "pass through" charger as one would get. But only time will tell, I've received a message from the place I ordered it that it has shipped and I should receive it sometime this week.
Just received the dock and can CONFIRM that Fast Charging does work on it when connected to the correct adapter. Fast Charging shows up on the pull down notification bar. This dock is solid, very nice looking, and should work great with future devices as well, no complaints so far!

[Review] CHOETECH 55W 6 Port USB Charging Station

Full disclosure, I was provided this product at a discount cost for a fair and unbiased review. With a Nexus 5x and 6p and a slew of microUSB devices still around the house there is often not enough chargers in the right place. Choetech's 55W 6-Port USB Charging Station took care of this, and now serves as our main hub with a plug for everything. It has 2 USB C ports, both capable of delivering a full 5v/3a simultaneously, which is something Google's dual port USB C charger cannot do. It also has 4 USB A ports, rated at 5v/2.4a each. For those good at math that means you can have any combination of 4 devices plugged in and charging at full speed. Yes, anything beyond that and the charging speeds will begin to dip, but in all likelihood the USB A/microUSB devices will not be pulling the full 12W of power (most non-smartphone/tablets will pull 5v/1-1.5a) which means that you may be able to charge more than 4 at a time full speed. Even still, to have 4 phones or tablets getting full speed charging is quite impressive from such a small device.
The build quality is very good on this product. It is mostly coated in a nice coat of soft touch paint, and it was smaller than I expected. The inclusion of a USB C cable is a nice touch as well, and the fact that it has a removable stand gives it more placement options. The only downside to this is that it does not offer Quick Charge to any of the USB A ports, but as I don't personally own any QC devices anymore this isn't a big deal. Overall this is a very good device that will find a permanent home as our main charging hub.
TL;DR: This is exactly the product I was looking for, but didn't know I needed and I would pay full price for it if I had to.

Has anybody found a *tiny* USB-C OTG adapter?

With my Note 4, I could keep a tiny OTG adapter (pictured in the link below) in my wallet to give access to USB devices...
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB19g5f...TG-Adapter-Converter-into-Flash-Drive-For.jpg
I can't seem to find a similar device for use with the Note 8.
Has anybody found anything like this?
Cheers,
Steve.
Perhaps not as tiny but the Note 8 comes with an OTG adapter used for transferring data from an older phone to a new one.

Yeah, I know - I was really wondering why there aren't any OTG adapters in the nano flat style. That's what I'm really after.
THIS is the smallest I've seen.
Well, there is another but the listing just seems a little dodgy - Clicky
I bought a usb 2.0 to C OTG adapter which did not work at all, and a 3.1 A to C which does so that may need to be a consideration beyond just the physical size.

I would have gone with the second one if the picture had actually been of a USB-C interface, rather than Micro USB.
If it can't fit in my wallet, then attaching it to my key-ring (with minimal size/bulk) is a reasonable alternative.
I keep both of these in my wallet. Type C to micro USB and a micro USB OTG adaptor.
Got them from Gearbest and/or Banggood.

It's nice to know that works - I ordered exactly the same from Gearbest a week ago.
