[Q] xperia z1 annoying software keys!!! - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
I just wondered can you possibly hide xperia z1 soft key in games without any alternative apps!!
just like the lg g2's hide front touch buttons?? it just simply hide your soft keys and when you want it to appear you just need to swipe up..!!!!
it's in the system, I saw GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys ★ root but it has a LOT of options and that kind of stuff, I just need my soft keys to hide while playing games, or anything like that...!!!

Not all Games for Z1 Support Immersive Mode. The only way which you have is to install XposedFramework and Immersive Mode Module. There is no way to do it without Root and Alternative App or Module.

Of all honesty I find keeping the soft keys makes things more productive. If you want to go back on a game, you don't have to swipe up all the time to go back. It's especially less productive for a workspace. If you really want it though, just install the xposed module he said to download.

"Immersive" mode is really disappointing on these stock Kitkat 4.4 ROMs. On the Xperia SPs in our family, running JB 4.2, it is possible to remove the soft keys AND gain back the screen space that they take up, as the dock is moved down to the bottom of the screen where the soft keys used to be. But on the Z1's stock 4.4 ROM even when the soft keys are removed the screen space is still wasted because the the dock stays in the same place. I assume this is something to do the with google's 4.4 base files as the CM11 we have installed on a tablet and a phone has a much better implementation of full screen. Such a shame.

Sure, designing games to work on Android devices of so many different resolutions will always be complex for game devs but I wasn't specifically referring to how immersive mode affects games. I was trying to point out that with successive versions, Google is pushing Android development, in a number of ways, down paths that actually remove stuff that functions really well. "Expanded Desktop", as it was called in JB 4.2, worked far more logically (i.e. the screen space was "recovered" when soft keys were removed) but with "Immersive Mode", as it is called in KK 4.4, seems to be far more stoopid and just leaves a blank space at the bottom of the screen when soft keys are removed. Mainly I am referring to homescreens but also inside apps.

I'm using gravitybox to hide the softkeys forever and the LMT launcher to use the softkeys without wasting space. That's just like PIE, but all you need is root. You should give it a try. That's how it looks like.

Wow, thanks. That looks great but you are going to have to be more specific as to how I gain back the screen space. I have enabled expanded desktop in gravity box but it has about 7 options, immersive, semi-immersive, immersive status bar, immersive navigation bar etc. Tried the "hide navigation bar" option but it doesn't gain back any screen space, like immersive mode, it just removes the navigation bar with no other effect.
It would save us time, battery and about 5 reboots, if you could give us a clue as to which option to choose.

Remove the navigation bar then and use LMT instead of using the navbar.

Get xposed then GravityBox (GB) module
In GB go to "display tweaks" then enable "Expanded desktop mode"
Go back to GB main menu then go to "Navigation keys actions" and set one of the soft keys to enable expanded desktop when you double tap or press and hold it.
For me i set recent key to expanded desktop when I press and hold it.
yup owns Z1 and stuff. Also if I've helped you don't forget to hit THANKS - actions speak louder that words.

Thanks, I know about LMT launcher, I love LMT launcher. I have been using it on every phone I have owned since 2011. I added it to both my mums and dads phone as well. I have tried the first option in GravityBox to remove the navigation bar ("hide navigation bar") in the display options for expanded desktop but it just leaves a blank space at the bottom of the screen. Thanks for the heads up on GravityBox, when I get some time and a fully charged battery, I will see if I can make my homescreen look like your screenshot.

That's the only issue with this. You can't do anything about the stock home screen unless you mod it. I got used to it. At last you get everything else on full screen
Everything's fine on other launchers, but you can't use Sony widgets

Nice one, you've got it. I never thought of that. It is the Z1 launcher that is not allowing to gain back the space will in expanded desktop mode.
Tried the modded advanced xperia z launcher but it just force closes constantly so am using Nova launcher for the moment. But as you pointed out I lose all the Sony apps. Know of any other modded/advanced sony launchers I can try that would give me the extra screen space and not FC?

I asked one developer of the Sony Home app here at xda, but still nothing

Just removed that gap if you're using 0dpi navbar. Grab it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53518190

[Android 3.0+, ROOT] TabletBar Hider - fullscreen in Honeycomb without system bar!

TabletBar Hider
Want to use your honeycomb tablet in *true* fullscreen, without that pesky system bar in the way? Now you can! (REQUIRES ROOT!)
This app allows you to hide the system bar in landscape mode, where it gets in the way the most. Then, if you need to access it to leave the app, just rotate your tablet to portrait and the bar appears. When you're done, rotate it back to landscape and the bar disappears again. You can go back to the app and end that behavior at any time.
There is currently an issue with apps that prevent rotation - you may get stuck in them! But worst case, you can always reboot and everything goes back to normal. I will work on a fix for that if people like the app!
I am new to Android app development so please let me know if there are any issues! I have created a free demo version that you can run to verify that the app will properly hide and restore the system bar on your tablet. I have tested this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but not others yet! So please make sure to try the demo first.
Note that the demo is only for verifying that the app can kill and restore the system bar. It does not feature the automatic rotation service that the full version contains.

Well thought! tested the demo and working well on arabic rom p7510jpkg5. Though expected demo to be a little more useful beyond just hiding and restoring the bottom bar. Couldn't revert to home screen after applying the tweak. The full version could have been free.
well done.
It's useful...thanks
Works great on my Xoom but some time in future development it would be nice to have the option of a transparent status bar too.
Bought it in hopes that you'll be further developing it. Further development on this that could really turn heads would be access to the full apps list with the ability to check mark which ones you want the taskbar hider to work with (and more importantly, which ones you don't).
Great idea. Looking forward to where this might go.
Please consider making it work with multitouch gestures.
I have my tablet set to always stay in Landscape mode (unless an app forces me into portrait mode). So the current way of hiding and restoring the status bar is a PITA.
What you could (should) do is this.
Two finger swipe down off of the screen = Hide status bar.
Two finger swipe up onto the screen = Restore status bar.
Does that make sense?
It's a great start!

this would be really nice!
It would be great if it would work with wizz or have like a wiz type bar where i can click bottom middle during any app and bring up home and back and multi task and then even better like wizz i can add my own!
edit:
on adw ex I have swipe down as notifications. with this thing enabled. I swipe down and my notifications dont pop up really wished that I could swipe down for my notifications with the bar off
O well, guess its good for specific apps although I would really like to see it as a more accessible thing like wizzbar

Yes, I know its a simple app and it could be free, but this is kind of an experiment for me to see if I can make money writing apps. It also will provide the encouragement I need to keep developing it. And yeah, the demo is just to make sure people don't get stuck buying the paid app and have it not work. Its not really intended to be useful.

Actually I was originally going to hook into the volume buttons, and have one hide it and one restore it, but I found that background services don't have access to the volume buttons. Orientation was less ideal, but It was something I could hook into from the background. I'm not sure if background services can see the gestures, but I will look into it! One thing I know I can do is look at the accelerometer instead of the orientation. That way even if you're locked, you can still rotate to show the bar. Of course.. then its sideways, and that's weird. But thanks for the words of encouragement as well!

Ooh, yeah the app kills the process that contains the notifications, so that is one area where it won't work. Also, I said this above but I'm not sure if I can see gestures from a background process. But I will look into it for sure! That would definitely be better.
I also realized that if I implement the suggestion above about selecting which apps to disable my app on, I could have it also disabled on the home screen. That would be nice.
-Taylor
So, I just realized that the Market app doesn't allow rotation, and it can appear that you're stuck. I will definitely have to add a way to filter which apps this is enabled for.
For the meantime, you're not actually stuck in Market. Just use the menu on the top right and go to "Contact us" and it will open the browser.
Silly, for sure. I'll try to add the fix soon. Probably not till the weekend though.

Awesome Work!
I have Wavelauncher installed and it's a good workaround. If I'm in an app that won't rotate I just swipe for Wavelaunch. It can show recent apps and user defined apps. If the app you want isn't listed, just pick one that does portrait to get the system bar back. If this app can come up there must be a way for you to do a swipe gesture to bring the bar back,
Anyway, thanks for this app! Love watching movies without the bar at the bottom!

I actually found virtual button bar in the market, works like a dream. Lovin the fullscreen now!

A nice feature would be:
Have the system bar timeout and hide itself after a set time amount of inactivity. Say... if you do not touch anything that has to do with the system bar for a whole minute, it will automatically hide itself. Swiping up could bring it back up or something like that. Would be extremely useful. Kinda like how Windows has the auto hide taskbar feature to give more screen space.
Honestly, I think auto hiding the system bar should be something Google should cook up and bring natively to the Honeycomb tablets. It makes sense to do that if you think about it. I know that the icons and such will dim down to white dots after a few seconds while using certain parts of the system apps, but something like auto hiding the entire system bar altogether will be far superior.
I still like the idea of checking off the apps this is allowed to work in on a list. I imagine that's a lot of work.
Perhaps in the mean time, you could implement a hidden button that could toggle the taskbar by tapping in the extreme upper right or left corner. That (I imagine) should be a lot simpler to do for the time being.
I wouldn't hesitate to spend $2.00-2.50 on the finished app.
I hope you could get it to work with the international 3G Xoom. MZ601
Hey guys,
Man, I don't get what the deal is with forums *not* e-mailing me even though I have notifications enabled.
But yeah, I have been brainstorming ways to make this work better. The simplest idea, and what I will try to enable this weekend, is shaking the tablet to toggle the bar.
Hooking into rotation was the simplest thing and I just wanted to get off the ground and see if people liked it. Clearly you guys do (thanks!) so I gotta make this app easier to use.
I looked up how to do swiping, and apparently background apps are not supposed to have access to touch events, for security (imagine if an app secretly waited till your banking app was running and then watched locations pressed on the screen when you typed your password). So people seem to think apps that run in the background and read swipes are using some kind of unsupported security holes, and my initial search only found people not willing to talk about it. Still, I haven't spent much time on it yet, busy week!
But I will look at it this weekend and see what I can do to improve it. I also gotta shoot a youtube videos as I have what feels like a high rate of returns - I think it would be really helpful if people saw how it worked before downloading.
And I finally got a review, yay! Of course if you have any opinions on the app I'd love a review!

Does it not? Is your tablet rooted? This app cannot work without root, unfortunately.
Let me rephrase it. According to the market, your app is not compatible with my MZ601. When i do a search through the market it doesn't come up in the list. Its strange though since I was able to download your tester and it worked. I really would like to have this on my Xoom. And yes' I am rooted and running the Hammerhead ROM.
Have you checked your spam folder? A lot of times emails get marked as spam specially ibes coming from forums.

Are you being serious?
So how do you plan to navigate around your phone, they are nav keys for your phone, they are there because there are no hardware ones, without them you phone is pretty much useless to use.
You can buy apps of playstore which hide the keys I have used GMD auto hide soft keys there is a free one to try the paid version has quite a few more settings, there are ROM's that have smaller keys
root, install xposed module and then set navigation bar to 0
Then you can use gravity box with pie controls
Lol, of course not that way. I meant that i wanted to hide the bar in some kind of way. Do you think they will make it less visible in their future updates. Especially when Iæm watching a movie its quite annoying. If they are not going to fix it, they shouldn't say that the screen is 5". It takes a lot of the user experience away. In addition the Z1's screen is way smaller than the G2, if the bar cannot be invisible of some sort.
Do you think this will be fixed in the future updates?
You can remove nav bar like Greg just said and install app from app store...

Like someone just said using xposed installer with gravity box you can reduce the size of the navbar, but you will need root.
There is also an app called fullscreen in the play store that allows you to get rid of it and have icons in the corners of your screen instead.

Just installed 4.3 and root, but cant get rid of the sony nav bar using my usual method (fullscreen toggle app).
is this a 4.3 related issue? full screen toggle requested root permissions when i launched it, but when i select disable nav bar and reboot, the sony nav bar is still present? Anyone any ideas?
I much prefer button saviour for nav buttons, so i maximise screen real estate and swipe to access nav buttons

Press back button to comeback to settings menu to find AirView.
There are a lot of hidden options there, not all of them are working.
I have my Information preview enabled on all possible AirView settings but still it doesn't recognise my finger, only the pen.
Same here, perhaps the screen is different and Samsung did not bother to port this feature. It iis clear they try to remove all the unnecessary gimmicks from note 4

Pretty sure if those features are there, doesn't matter if hidden, it is possible to make it work. Guess we'll have to wait for 5.0

False
Uniquebarb above said the b4 is rooted.
Ive tried several times and all result in failure.
This is not possible on non rooted devices.
Lol, I cannot believe there are people who still want these gimmicky features that plagued the Galaxy S4.

But Nova Launcher can be installed on non-rooted phones. The only thing that may require root is to put a quick toggle in the notification dropdown. Right?
If it doesn't work for you it may have something to do with your firmware, these are stock Samsung features, I doubt they'd require root to work.

I may have misunderstood the issue but I think u can just turn on air wake up gesture just by going into accessibility and than choose dexterity and interaction. You will find the air menu. Just turn it on

You are correct I added root AFTER these steps yes notification toggles one of the reasons I added root for other reasons as well but you can use Nova Apex any third party launcher that you can add shortcuts-->activities - - >settings-->air gestures u must drag to the home screen to open - - >open air gestures turn on whatever you'd like repeat steps for smart scroll I rebooted just because and everything works. Yes I am stock rooted some custom roms include this already some of my circles are blank see my network connector and that other on. Some people use Sqlite editor to add toggles I choose Galaxy Tools

Oh Right, I forgot about that feature I had them in my note 3, I never used them except at the beginning cuz they worked on trial and error basis and wasnt very helpful for me. I guess since the hardware for note 4 has upgraded these gestures might be more accurate.
anyway goodluck.
You are correct. I did it & it seems to work ok..............

Just picked up my New Note 4. Am I going to have to Run Nova Launcher as my Primary Launcher to have AIr View & Air Gesture tools (without Root)???
I love Next 3D & that is the Launcher I primarily use. I also Love the Air View, Air Gesture, & Quick Glance. I want them features but I don't want Nova. Any Advise??? I saw that the Guy up there said he was ROOTED. I thought there wasnt anyway to ROOT the VZW Note 4? If there is but it will trip Knox, Im Ok with that & can someone point me in that direction. Thanks! Jason

I am not rooted and I can confirm these instructions work.

Stuck on "You're using full screen mode", swiping up does nothing

Just got an S8. When I go full screen, I get this overlay. I can't get rid of it. Nothing wrong with my touchscreen, swiping up works everywhere else, just not in full screen mode.

You're using full screen mode. The home, back and recents buttons are hidden to minimize visual distractions and to prevent you from leaving the app accidentally.
However you're holding your phone the buttons will always be located next to the charging port. When your phone is rotated counterclockwise, swipe left from the edge of the screen as shown by the arrow.
This is the note 8 section, you say you are using a S8, but, it seems that the full screen message you are getting is related to the app you are using, not the device itself

Sorry, just posted it there at S8.
Thanks for your help. The full screen issue actually occurs wherever and whenever I go full screen. It's quite frustrating because I basically can't watch anything without this annoying overlay. I only found one other person who apparently fixed it, and his solution didn't work for me. I wiped the cache, restarted multiple times, toggled off then on full screen apps. To no avail.
Ok, maybe some app you use that has the inmersive function is keeping it even when not in use? Again, the message you are getting does not look like a system one
That's the tool tip you get when you choose to autohide through navbar in Oreo. But swiping up on the arrow is supposed to take you to the next tip in the little mini tutorial. If that's not working, then something is booked. Maybe a factory reset.

I reset it from the settings and also the "wipe cache/data" option. Didn't fix it, unfortunately. I also went to settings and disabled all apps (including system's) that can appear on top of others, and can change settings. When I turned on "Show touches", I can see that the touch works in that region. And I also did that touch screen test and I could fill in green all the spots there too. It's so frustrating, I can't watch anything or play a game without this stupid overlay.
I've been just thinking of waiting for Pie to come, maybe this thing will go away. But I don't know how I can seek help for this.

Are you using a home screen launcher app other than Samsung's own?

Nope, just plain standard mode TouchWiz. What actually ended up happening is I called Samsung. Apparently they can remote control with a mouse, so they simply swiped from their side and, boom, the message went away. So it looks like there's something on my side preventing swipes from the charging port. It's strange because I still sometimes get responses when I touch on the bottom edge; I can actually press on the navigation bar buttons and they work fine, but swiping doesn't work from that area. So now, when I'm watching a video, I'm forced to swipe the status bar down to show the navigation bar, instead of from the charging port. Also, when I go to the Notes app and begin drawing, I can see the line tracing until it reaches the bottom edge, where it just stops even when there is more space. I know that there is a crack on the bottom left. Maybe I need to replace the screen or, possibly, the digitizer.
Maybe this is a first time you are using fullscreen mode with app have function hide navbar (not using full touch gestures in stock rom).
Solution
Just disable funtion hide navbar in your third app
When you are open app full screen like youfube, this warning will appear and you just press button Got It. It will show anymore.
Then, reactive hide navbar.
Hi, I have the same problem. Any solution ?
I had this problem and fixed it by opening a YouTube video full screen. The YouTube app does allow you get rid of the message while most other apps I've tried won't.
Finally solved it by swiping from the arrow side and hit the word OK
Hive got +1 nord 2003 phone. İve got cubasis with a missing right side buttons in that. So got to the menu found screen optiin for the front camera. İts got options because the camera has a place on the screen . So that menu follows about the screen should act how for the front camera if disturbs you. Then choose the app and select dont hide its solved
