Windows will not recognize driver for KF [SOLVED] - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought this KF off eBay. It was sold as defective because it displays an error with the setup wizard. I figured no problem, I can get past that and install CM. I made a fastboot cable which does work. I enter the fastboot command in the cmd window. However, Win7 x64 will not recognize the driver for the KF. Where do I point it to load the driver? I've already installed the adb drivers from Amazon's site, plus the KF utility drivers.
Edit: If anyone else has this problem, get the hardware ID from the device properties. Mine was 0007 instead of 0006 and that's why Windows wouldn't recognize the driver.

ADB problem [CM5]

Heya~ Ive recently upgraded to CM5, since then manually & Automatically updating the drivers to use fastboot have failed on Vista Home Premium (32bit)
I've also tested it on Win7 64BIT, in win7 it does appear on device manager as "HTC Bootloader", under ADB Interfaces. But does not appear when I do "fastboot devices" therefor it endlessly stays at <Waiting for Device> when trying to flash a file, It wasnt like this on Vista before upgrading from hardSPL to dangerSPL. Under windows vista it continuasly picks the device up as "Android 1.0" and cannot find drivers on the internet, and the drivers from the SDK arent working.
Is there a command to flash the splash1/2 via terminal or recovery prompt...because My computers dont want to cooperate.

[Q] Unable to get Fastboot to work, Win 7 x64

I have a TMO Dell Streak 7
I have rooted my device just fine, using the Composite ADB Drivers.
I have USB Debugging > ON
Windows 7, x64
I put the device in Fastboot mode
> Connected via USB
> Installed Android Bootloader Drivers from android_winusb.inf file
> Fastboot shows up under Android Phone in Device Manager
Yet, I am unable to see the device through Fastboot devices in CMD
-- ADB Devices does show my device connected, when booted normally and connected via Composite ADB Interface drivers.
Can someone please help me? I'd love to update the image with the tweaked image posted on this forum.
Thank you
A driver isnt installex. I know it sounds crazy. It took me 2 days to figure out fastboot. Also do you have the latest fastboot installed? When you plugged in the streak in fastboot mode did it prompt to install a driver?

Where do I get the latest Fastboot copy from? I just googled Fastboot and downloaded it from one of the sources that showed up.
When I plug the Streak7 to the computer while Streak7 is in Fastboot mode, Windows7 x64 automatically tries to find the driver and then fails. Then I open up Device Manager, right click on the USB device that's flagged and install the Bootloader Driver from the INF file (through Have Disk method). At this point, Fastboot does show up under Android Phone at the top of Device Manager. But no luck.
Very frustrating. I appreciate your reply.
go Into sdk and download the latest platform tools. You are using sdk correct? I really dont know what I did to get it too work but I do know it was a pain. Good luck. Let us know if you get it to work.

also not sure if you created a path for the sdk tools? Here is an awesome guide on how to setup adb properly. Follow it to a t and it should work. Might I also suggest startover fresh with everything. Hope this helps

I have found that I need to reboot my computer before each time I use fastboot on win 7 64, otherwise I just get a bunch of errors, even when I have no other adb issues.
Sometime when I have the time I will get fastboot working on my imac, I have to jump through too many hoops everytime I need fastboot on my windows machine.
that may because you didnt create a path for adb.

[Q] One not detected properly in fastboot mode

Hi there,
I`ve got the following Problem:
My One is not detected properly in fastboot mode, adb works like a charm (all cmds working)
In fastboot mode windows says that the device cannot be started (code 10) and cmd cannot find the device and it`s also not charging in fastboot...
I`m using Windows 8 and I know that there are problems with driver signatures, so I disabled the checks through advanced boot, uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them (the strange thing is, it worked like a charm with my HOX)
After that still the same issues... Then I uninnstalled the HTC drivers and tried the drivers from Google SDK and after that the drivers from PDAnet but nothing helped...
Then I read that there are Problems with USB3.0 and fastboot but I only got USB3.0. So I tried different USB ports and reconnected many times (about 30 times) and maybe the phone says "fastboot USB" but in cmd it`s still not detected...
As I said before with my HOX it worked like a charm... (also Win8 and USB3.0)
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!
togx
Try disabling Fastboot in the Power Settings.
I tried it again with fastboot disabled but it still doesn`t work... :/

hey envoy_467,
I found a solution for this issue:
It seems that microsoft´s own driver for the Intel USB3.0-Host breaks the support for several devices. You can install the Intel drivers for Win7 on Win8 (search google: Windows 8 and Intel USB3.0 host controller there should be a link to plugable. I´m not able to post links cause I don´t have enough posts...) but it only works with the Intel host.
Hope it will help you too!

usb device not recognized
I'm having a similar problem using windows 8, but I tried both my usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports but results in same problem. I have a t-mobile HTC One S (JB 4.1.1). Everytime I try to do the fastboot to get my token id my pc tells me my usb device is not recognized. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Try THIS
Sorry to bump this thread, but it's better than creating a new one.
Anyway, I have the same issue as the others here: fastboot won't work at all.
Btw, I've tried all possible solutions but installing the intel driver isn't possible due to a limitation on Windows + Intel 8 Series.
Windows 8, Intel 4th generation processor (8 Series/220) on a Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI.
USB eXtensible Host Controller driver by Microsoft can't be modified to work with the Intel 8 Series driver. When trying to install it it says that my PC doesn't have the requirements to install the program (driver can be found here -- 8 Series ONLY!!) probably because I'm on Windows 8 (no, setting the app to run with Win7 compatibility mode doesn't work either).
Using Naked Driver 0.72..
Has anyone tried with a virtual machine? Maybe I could install Ubuntu on a VM to test it when I get the time.
Any other ideas?
VM doesn't work.. Since Windows won't recognize the phone while on fastboot that means that the VM Linux won't find the devide either.
LiveUSB won't install the android SDK either.. I'm stuck..
FIXED, kinda.. Workaround on Linux.
More info:
Just did it..
But not on Windows..
I've created a LiveUSB from Ubuntu 12.04 using the "Universal USB Installer" from: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/
When creating the LiveUSB I've created with 4gb (4096mb) of free space on a 16gb flash drive just in case, but you can make it work with a 4gb flash drive.
Then I installed the Android SDK.
Then I was able to use fastboot to change the CID to 11111111.. Working great.. Now let's download the developer ruu..
Tutorial used to install the SDK: http://askubuntu.com/questions/318246/complete-installation-guide-for-android-sdk-on-ubuntu
To run all commands faster, just type "sudo su" before starting. After that type "apt-get -f install" to clean everything.
Remember: To install anything the tutorial asks you have to use the command "apt-get install name-of-package", where the name is the item the tutorial says.
Go up to Step 4.
Download and Unzip/extract the AndroidSDK to the desktop (just the SDK, you don't need the full bundle).
Go to the unzipped folder, go to the Tools folder, double click "android", run in terminal, install the SDK and the TOOLS.
When finished, open a terminal window, navigate to your unzipped folder, than navigate to platform-tools and use the command "./adb" and "./fastboot" to work your magic..
Edit: Still not able to install the RUU..
At least now I have the phone ready.. Just have to find a new PC to install the RUU..

Kindle not found in adb & stuck

I realize there are dozens of similar threads but none so far has helped. I'll keep looking but in the mean time I thought I would try asking for advice.
I screwed up somehow attempting to root my Kindle HD 7". It was stuck in a loop returning to the "restore factory" screen w/ orange triangle every time. I bought a factory cable and the kindle is now in Fasboot mode.
However, every set of instructions I can find to take the next step of restoring the original firmware requires adb and/or fastboot to recognize the kindle. I cannot figure out how to get that to happen. Both fail to recognize it. I modified my adb_usb.ini file to add the line 0x1949 and I modified
sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf file to have the required hardware ids for the kindle (I tried the "stock" ids as well as the ids currently listed for the tablet in device manager). I added the sdk paths to my environmental variables. adb & fastboot commands work but neither finds the kindle.
Windows Vista is recognizing the kindle HD as Other Devices > Tate-PVT-08 but fails to load any drivers when it is first found (I get an error).
Any ideas?
Edit/update: I found a thread explaining how to force Windows to change the drivers. I forced it to change to the Android Sooner Composite ADB Driver and it is now listed as an ADB Interface device. still not recognized in adb though.
Another thing is that I am unable to update the drivers to use the adb kindle drivers. Windows simply reports that it "could not find driver software for your device".
Try the drivers in my SIG, they might do what yours already did though and not show up, but they should work if you update the driver to them. I am not a fan of vista, but I can think of several reason why u could be having issues offhand, like uac or driver signature enforcement, I believe driver signature enforcement was on vista, not positive though. Anyways try out my drivers and if that doesn't work maybe the command prompt isn't running with admin privis.

Your drivers were recognized and installed by Vista! Windows now sees it as an Android Phone > Android ADB Interface. Still no luck getting adb to find the kindle though. I think next I'm going to try deleting/uninstalling adb & the sdk and starting again. It isn't spelled out anywhere but I half suspect the paths are wrong somehow.
I can update to Windows 7 if there is any chance that would help.
Thanks for your help!

Your device is listed as a Tate device correct? That is not going to work with adb because that means it is in fastboot. You can't use adb commands with fastboot. Try running "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and see if it reports anything back.

Yes, if I uninstall the device and let Windows Vista find it, it is listed as a Tate device. My kindle is indeed in fastboot (I have a factory cable). If I manually force it to switch drivers I can have windows list it as a ADB interface device.
Ahh, I tried fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product and I get a response from the kindle!
So...I guess on to the next step! One of these 40 tabs I have open probably has something on flashing the rom.
Thanks all!

I know this is an old thread, but it seems to be the one most relevant to my problem.
I've got pretty much the same issue, but its because i was trying to install chainfire on my rooted kindle fire hd 7 (tate). Installation was taking longer than expected, actually thought my kindle had frozen so did a hard reset....big mistake as now it doesn't load past the kindle fire logo screen.
I bought a factory cable and the kindle is now in Fasboot mode.

Done the same, but when in fastboot, nothing.

This is pretty much where i'm at now, except on a windows 8 laptop, tried uninstalling everything related to my kindle, all adb, fastboot and sdk etc from my laptop before reinstalling and trying to update drivers but still not being recognised, did all the same things as above post, as been trying to sort this off and on for a while.

I've tried to install the drivers from your sig but keep getting the message "the hash for this file is not present in the specified catalog file, the file is likely corrupt or been the victim of tampering" so i'm at a bit of a stand still at the minute.

Any command i try use through fastboot just gives the <waiting for device> message with no response from my kindle. If either of you (or anyone else who reads this) can help it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Got it recognised by windows finally, I opened "device manager", clicked "update driver software", "browse my computer for driver software" then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" where i found the right driver to enable fastboot to work and windows to recognise my tablet. Now to fix the damn thing.
Having same issue where my kindle isn't found in fastboot for some reason. When I type
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
I get back Tate-PVT-08, but when i do fastboot devices I get nothing. I have Andoid ADB drivers installed and a factory cable. What is the problem?
Edit: Turns out i had to paste this in before everything -i 0x1949.
I'm glad this is a current topic again. I also need help. I've been running my rooted Kindle Fire HD 3d Gen going on two years now. I was using the firerooter to get it updated to 4.5.5 today and I'm pretty sure I bricked it--again. But this time I think I bricked it up real good.
I was doing this to hopefully get a recently updated game working again. But when it got hung up I freaked out for a second and made a mistake... I went ahead with a factory reset but then I realized that this would delete my game progress and I hadn't made a game backup before the update came on today so I was pretty much screwed in several ways.
Right, so when I was in the middle of the factory reset I was like... "****! I don't want to lose all my game progress!" and I immediately powered it down. And I immediately punched myself in the face after I turned it on and it did the lovely "kindle_fire" grey-scale initial load screen loop over and over. Based on what I've read, I'm pretty sure I've corrupted the bootloader or possibly deleted some boot partition.
I'm about sick of Amazon's bull****. They don't manager this part of their business very well at all. /RAGE
But before I throw this garbage in the dump where it belongs... I'm tempted to try to get this thing working.
I have a fastboot cable and some time. I can get to the fastboot info such as "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and it returns "product: Soho-PVT-Prod-07" . But, I can't get anything out of the adb commands to recognize the device. I've updated the .ini files from the android SDK.
Is there any boot partition I can load to this thing? Some way to hack into this? thx for any help

Can't use fastboot

To clarify, my problem is that on my windows 11 laptop my phone is not recognized in fastboot. When I try to run any commands i get "<waiting for device>" and in device manager it is listed as "Android" with a yellow triangle near it because windows says it is an unknown device. I even installed all the drivers i could but still no luck. It works on my ubuntu laptop so I don't know why it wouldn't work on my windows laptop.
Ah yes, welcome to Windows Driver Hell. You see, while you think your drivers are installed, Windows has a different opinion
Try finding the directory of the driver and install it manually in device manager. If this works there is a chance you'll even have to do it every goddamn time. Has happended before.
If you're using a device specific driver you can try Universal Drivers instead. And vice versa if you're on universal drivers now.
Sometimes I have luck with a Nexus driver.
Thanks for your help, it finally worked with the qualcomm driver I found in the msm tool post
