Hey yall, I just got to israel and I had purchased an N1 banking on the fact that it was carrier unlocked... I just popped in the new israeli SIM card and every 5 seconds an error message pops up saying com.android.phone has stopped, this doesn't happen in airplane mode so I don't know what to do. Back in the states I had popped in an ATT sim and it worked fine.
it is unlocked but only to certain carriers and certain radio frequencies. american ATT and Tmobile I know work, cant tell you much about Israel though. What carrier are you trying to get it to work on and maybe we can see if the radios match up.
Yup, it is unlocked. There is something else going on wrong there. Try reseating the SIM card? Maybe you got a bad SIM card?
It's celcomm israel, could it be a CM 6 error?

hmm, the Nexus should definitly be able to pick up those 2G bands atleast. Call the cell carrier and see if it is on their side, i heard somewhere that some carriers block other cells unless you give them the IMEI to unlock service, or something like that.
Well, I just popped in my bro's Orange SIM and it works fine... But mine is cellcom so that may be the issue.. it is also a USIM card not regullar sim, could that be it?
it's definitely not a frequency thing, GSM is 900/1800 which the N1 supports and UMTS is 850/2100 which your phone supports
in terms of why the sim card won't work, try going to a cellcom store, one time i got a bad sim from them so who knows
Well, I found the right APN settings, but when I type them in and hit save it doesn't add itself to the list, I typed them in without the SIM card in to avoid the force closes, but when I put the sim back in, I still have the force close issues

isnt a USIM completely different technology? i thought that is what CDMA carriers in the states use, or the nextel technology uses. i dont think that is a gsm network...

no that's CSIM, USIM is just a SIM for UMTS (3G) networks
Force closes aren't connected to anything being locked, they're OS error.
USIM or no USIM doesn't matter. Nexus works 100%, with both Cellcom and Orange. In fact I've installed FRF91 on one with Cellcom SIM, and it works fine.
Reinstall stock or close-to-stock FRF91 and check again, if it fails - exchange the SIM.
You won't see the APNs in the list unless you have the SIM inserted, and if you've added APNs without SIM - they're most probably worthless (unless you've entered MCC and MNC, which are taken from the registered network when you have the SIM installed). APNs show in the list only when their MCC and MNC match those of the carrier. When you use MarketEnabler or MarketAccess, for example, the APNs disappear from the list until you revert back to normal.

Okay before I go any farther, some definitions are in order.
UICC = Universal Integrated Circuit Card
SIM = Subscriber Identity Module
USIM = Universal Subscriber Identity Module
RUIM = Removable User Identity Module
CSIM = CDMA Subscriber Identify Module
The UICC is the physical strata or card where the DATA is stored. SIM, USIM, R-UIM and CSIM are applications or modules flashed onto the card.
The SIM application (which is used in GSM networks) contains information about the users account and other relevant information that the handset will use to communicate with the mobile network.
The USIM application (which is an update to the SIM application and is used with UMTS [3G] networks) again, stores user account DATA and other relevant info required by the handset to operate on a mobile network.
The R-UIM was originally developed as an add-on to the SIM application to allow CDMA networks users to have the same functionality as a GSM user where by the user could change his/her handsets ad hoc. With the added benefit that a CDMA user could remove their R-UIM and insert it into an unlocked GSM phone and utilize like they would their own phone, thus allowing for seamless billing across foreign (roaming) networks.
The CSIM is an update to the R-UIM where by the USIM application is added to UICC to allow for seamless roaming across different types of mobile networks.

Hello,
I have the Droid 3 with Verizon, unlocked, with verizon vodafone sim activated. I am currently in Canada, and am wondering why it will not connect to GSM/HSDPA towers.
If I go into the wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> Operator selection the phone will show me Rogers 2G, Rogers 3G, Bell, and Telus networks.
I also get this error for all three in the drop down menu, the name just changes:
No service
Selected network (CAN Rogers wireless inc. 3g) unavailable.
I have all the APN's entered for all three of those carriers, and can select them with an application named APN Manager, however none of those APN's show up in my wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> access point names. Both the vodafone APN's are unselected though.
I am looking to get on this GSM/HSDPA network, as when I am out in the country there is only 1x dial up internet on CDMA, and HSDPA available in the country.
If anyone can help me out, let me know!

Forgot to mention: I tried a Rogers and a Telus sim card and they both got calling service.
Not sure if Verizon has roaming agreement with any of the Canadian GSM networks. You can roam using CDMA here without any problem. I believe Telus is backing up Verizon here when it comes to CDMA.
If you want to use GSM you can put a SIM from any of the operators here (except AWS ones) and you will be fine since you have unlocked phone. Cheaper to use too, of course if using local SIM is an option for you. If you will be using local SIM you will need to define APNs or you won't get data connection. Head over Google for the settings for each of the operators here (Canada)

Thanks Leobg. I believe you are right that there is no roaming agreement for GSM, which makes sense. Verizon lady told me otherwise
This phone is going back though, as I was looking for some HSPA while in the country.
I was using Droid3 and Droid4 with Mexican SIMS, IUSACEL and TELCEL without problem. Now Im at Canada and Rogers SIM doesnt work on both phnes. I guess they are locked, can you describe me how to unlock where i do purchase unlocking codes?

If you are on a contract with Verizon, you can ask them for unlock code,
Insert a sim card which it ain't accepting, enter the unlock code and its done.
Don't forget --- Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> GSM/UMTS
But I believe once unlocked, Verizon doesn't work on it.
It sounds like the SIM. Or try switching to CDMA. I think the Canadian carriers still have CDMA on their towers (used to a few years ago) and maybe that's the roaming the lady means.

I have been thinking about traveling to Japan this coming year; I have looked at Verizon's International plan, and it seems like they are very pricey.
I have heard that the VS980 has GSM support, with no LTE, which is fine. I have looked into the h20 network, as they have exceptional prices for their international plan.
I have googled it and have gotten mixed answers, so I came here. I have a h20 sim card, and it pulls the APNs, but does not get any service. Is it that I am using a custom rom?

I'm on the stock verizon ROM. I have a Piranha mobile sim card. I am testing the setup in the US to verify it works. It connects to the T-mobile/Piranha voice and sms network, but data is not working.
Their setup instructions call for setting the apn to openroamer.com, but no mention on the mnc or the mcc values. If I just set the apn to openroamer.com I'm able to save and select it, but as soon as I change the mnc or mcc values to t-mobile the apn disappears after I save. Do I need to set the mnc and mcc values to something specific? I tried to track down exactly what they do, with no luck.
I see mention in another thread that Verizon locks the phones to be unable to connect to other US domestic networks. They also mention that once I'm overseas I'll be fine. I'm skeptical.
I was thinking of going to the t-mobile store to see if I could borrow a sim card to confirm it's a firmware issue. I would rather not root at this point. Any other courses of action?

It turns out to be a activation error for me, after I correctly activated the sim, it worked! (silly me!)
For your problem, I looked on your carriers website/ help websites and there are no values except the APN.
You might need a data plan active. I would try using other carriers, because for me the h20 sim worked with data.
Verizon has no control over what network you go on either, FCC has a couple laws that prevent from Verizon doing that except exclude the hardware needed to connect to other networks.

I popped my Aio Wireless (AT&T) SIM from my Nexus 4 into my G2 and after a little APN tweaking I had HSPA+ working with no issues. It is my understanding if you have AT&T Band 4 LTE (limited markets) and the correct service providor, it will even connect 4G/LTE on AT&T networks. I swapped my Verizon SIM back in and removed the APN's and all was well on Verizon again. I am stock (KitKat) and rooted with only a few few Xposed modules installed, no custom ROM.
It sounds like, from reading the posts above, the Verizon LG-G2 IS a World Phone and should function straight on from stock on a UK provider like Three just by purchasing a sim and plugging it in then configuring the APN settings !
The problem is that when my Susan went just this morning to a Three store in London, the guy there told her that her Verizon LG-G2 was LOCKED to Verizon network only, and that she would have to do something like obtain an unlock code because the phone would not work on any other provider until she did that.
Verizon's International folks told us earlier that the phone would work fine, given GSM frequency issue restrictions, overseas and there was no need for any UnLock proceedure or code.
Does she just need to find a competent tech at a different Three store ?
Or is she going to be unable to play Ingress the whole two weeks she is over there in England and Scotland ?
Update...both Three and Vodaphone folks in London have now told her that the Verizon LG-G2 is carrier locked and cannot be used without Verizon unlocking it on any other network. So, Verizon was wrong and she is limited to WiFi only for the next two weeks ?

It is very odd. We tried it on a T-Mobile sim over here before she left, I am pretty sure, and it just worked. Still, over in London Three & Vodaphone say it is locked and useless on their networks and their sims don't work.
Maybe it is subsidy-locked ?
Maybe they just didn't set the APN and data settings right at the stores ?

I have a sprint note 8 and ive tried to follow the guides to flash unlocked firmware and keep getting sha256 error. I put my Verizon SIM card in and it works but it is always roaming and Verizon said I don't have a phone active on my account. I don't know if there is a way to fix it and I'm super frustrated trying to flash unlocked firmware trying to fix it any help would be appreciated.
If the phone has a clean IMEI it will work on T-Mobile, Metro PCS, AT&T, Verizon Prepaid (PagePlus) or any other GSM carrier in the US and worldwide, Phone will work on Roaming State , Make sure you add your Carrier APN for the Data settings.
Sounds like you are stuck in roaming state nothing you can do about it.. I bought the unlocked model cause I figure it's best to bout be carrier locked

Surely roaming state is when user roams onto a different network other than their own. Example, T Mobile customer travels to Spain and roams onto Mobistar Spanish cell network using his or her existing T Mobile sim card regardless of what the device is.
Perhaps that's how it works between the two USA cdma carriers? - the way you mentioned it.

So fp r short you are using sprints towers on Verizon's network is what I believe read below
roaming is a term used to describe the ability of phones to connect to the network of a different carrier, abroad or at home in order to offer users the same features they use while on their “home” network – making and receiving calls and text messages and surfing the web. Roaming is possible thanks to the international agreements carriers have with other carriers, in order to offer their wireless services in other regions of a country or of the world.

I have just acquired a new (never used) T-Mobile Revvlry Plus XT1965-T, and it seems to be network locked. (Note: I was able to get an OEM unlock code from Motorola, haven't tried it yet, but right now I am only asking about the network lock issue.)
My goal is to install LineageOS 18.1, and use this phone with other mobile service providers in Canada.
I want to understand how to deal with the network lock, and get past it -- I have some questions...
1. If I simply follow the official instructions for installing LineageOS, will this result in a network unlocked phone?
2. If just installing LineageOS won't remove the network lock, why is that? How is the network lock implemented on this phone?
3. Is there any way to clear the network lock, without going through T-Mobile?
4. If I must go through T-Mobile and use their unlock app, I assume that I had better do this before I do anything else, and once the phone is network unlocked using T-Mobile's app, then the phone will remain network unlocked after installing LineageOS, is this correct?
5. I get the impression that there are actually two different phones with the same model number XT1965-T, being the T-Mobile version and the Motorola version, is that right? What are the main differences?
Any other comments, insights, or links are also appreciated. Please keep in mind that while I am highly technical, I am not an expert on Android or smartphones.

1. No, network lock is related to the carrier. If it's a TMO Revvlry+/Revvlry Plus, then it's locked to T-Mobile. This means it can't be used with another carrier essentially. Network lock again just means if a TMO sim is installed (and it's locked to TMO) it will work. If another carrier sim is installed and it's network locked, the sim won't function.
2. If the phone came from TMO, they would lock it to their system.
3. Removing the network lock allows other carriers to be used. There are pay to use services that will network unlock the device within 24 hours. Manual methods exist, but will require more in-depth knowledge. Otherwise, TMO is the one to network unlock it but could take 30 days and may require service with them.
4. Once unlocked it should remain unlocked, regardless of stock or custom ROM.
5. The TMO Revvlry+ (Revvlry Plus) and Moto G7 Plus are the same devices hardware wise. The main difference is the boot animation and logo branding. The Moto G7 Plus is also carrier unlocked.

I bought several of these phones on eBay, they were advertised as network unlocked Moto G7 Plus phones, but the seller instead shipped me network locked T-Mobile Revvly+ phones.
My first step was to test a SIM chip from a local mobile provider, and the phones show a message saying they are SIM locked.
The phones are clearly new and unused. The seller claims they are open-box returns.
I called T-Mobile, and T-Mobile says these phones are registered to active accounts, and they can only be unlocked if the account holder requests it. T-Mobile reps also say they are unable to identify the account holder, and offer no solution. The phones are not blacklisted or reported stolen. If I had to guess: most likely, the phones were purchased, activated, and returned to the store, but the T-Mobile account registration was not cleared in their database.
It seems that these phones use an unlock app, rather than an unlock code, and from what I've read, it may not be possible for any third-party unlocking service to unlock these particular phones.
Getting back to my questions in my original post:
- How is the network lock implemented on this phone? (I mean this question from a technical perspective)
- Is there any way to clear the network lock, without going through T-Mobile?
The network lock must be a setting somewhere in the firmware... I've heard people talk about flashing the baseband, but not being a phone expert, I don't know much about that, or if it might apply here...
So again, I am asking: is there some way to network unlock these phones, and make them usable with another service provider? Can I somehow just reflash whatever area in the phone holds the network lock setting with stock code that doesn't have the network lock setting enabled?

If they are registered and active, they may have to wait out the time period from T-Mobile to be Network SIM unlocked, depending on when they were originally purchased by the original owner.
If they were returned to the store, how did the eBay seller obtain them?
It seems that these phones use an unlock app, rather than an unlock code, and from what I've read, it may not be possible for any third-party unlocking service to unlock these particular phones.

If an unlock app is needed, this may be built into the phones firmware that only T-Mobile can use. It may still require a code to be passed to the unlock app.

It's implemented by T-Mobile. T-Mobile is going to be your best shot. You may have to make multiple calls to get through to someone where you can explain the situation and see if they will network unlock the phone.

Baseband typically indicates the frequencies the phone can use to communicate with different networks. If you take a nandroid of the phone, you can always try to flash a new baseband and test. If it doesn't work, restore back.
So again, I am asking: is there some way to network unlock these phones, and make them usable with another service provider? Can I somehow just reflash whatever area in the phone holds the network lock setting with stock code that doesn't have the network lock setting enabled?

You can try to flash the T-Mobile Revvlry+ into a Moto G7 Plus: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/revvlry-to-moto-g7-plus-conversion-guide.4136355/ That would get rid of the T-Mobile software. It's not clear if that would remove the network SIM lock, but if you take a nandroid backup, you can always revert back.
EDIT: I was doing some additional research, and flashing the modems/baseband or converting the TMO Revvlry+ to Moto G7 Plus won't affect the network SIM lock. The app is in the TMO software and you'll have to use that app with the code either TMO provides or an unlock service gives to network SIM unlock the device.

As mentioned, the phones are clearly brand new and never used.
I would also like to know how the seller obtained them, unfortunately the seller is non-cooperative.
T-Mobile is also curious about how the seller obtained them.

When I go to the menu: "Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network", all further options are grayed out.
As such, I am not able to reach the option: "Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Network Unlock > Permanent Unlock" as shown at the link you provided.

Any further suggestions/advice much appreciated, I would really like to be able to make use of these phones.

The app is provided via TMobile. This is not provided via software/firmware except by TMO.
Your best bet at this point is to try a pay to unlock service that will provide instructions on unlocking the SIM, if TMO is unwilling to do it.
(Modems change the baseband used by different providers so changing/updating it via firmware isn't going to unlock the SIM/Network. If you get the SIM/Network unlocked and THEN have an issue with a network carrier, flashing the correct modem for that provider would allow the SIM/Network to communicate.)

Do have service with TMO? If not, you might try getting a SIM/Network card from them and inserting it to see if the in-phone options appear so you can unlock it. You might also try escalating the issue with TMO if you are only getting to first line technical support personnel.
The phone is obviously locked to TMO as it's a TMO phone. It's different than the Moto G7 Plus which is already unlocked for all carriers. If you can't get the phone Network/SIM unlocked, maybe return it to the eBay seller and look for the Moto G7 Plus which will give you less headaches.
