Hello,
First, i install a cwm for galaxy s advance here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987313 and i did everything according to what the developer instruct us to do, like pressing vol up+ power button + home button for stock recovery and apply update from sd card and find the update.zip(which is the cwm). While installing it stops and says that:
E:failed to verify the whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
install_package = (2)
i'm not sure what's problem: is it my phone, or the cwm file itself. My galaxy s advance android version is 2.3.6(gingerbread).
Is there someone who can help me?
Regards,

OMG ... You did not read carefully you buddy. That you install the CWM for the stock ROM JB (4.1.2) or [Recovery] CWM 6.0.2.8 [JB Compatible]. :crying: Not for OS Gingerbread. If you want to do you have to do the firmware update first to stock ROM Jelly Bean (4.1.2) via Odin.

No, you can not flash CWM from GB. Because CWM can only be flashed with JB. So you need to update the system prior to JB.
Or read how to guide here how to do a system update from GB to JB.

Hm .. Well.
first:
Why do I have to recommend you to install CWM to go through the stock ROM JB (4.1.2)?!. Coz SPECIAL S ADVANCE DEVICE that using OS GB till now still haven't found a thread is in this forum, and in other forums outside of this forum. And this is in accordance with the suggestions from those users advanced level, up from the creator of the application. If you still contains hard, want to install CWM in GB, are welcome, but I would not recommend it, of course, do at your own risk.
second:
If you look at the friends that you can install CWM, confirmed the developer has given his support to the device in order to install CWM via OS GB. I hope it's understandable.
For more details information, please consult the the advanced level users such as:

Simply, we do not have CWM made for GB, we have TWRP. We have recovery embedded in same partition as kernel, so if we want permanent CWM we MUST flash kernel with CWM. - Is it more clear now?
Some phones has separate partition for recovery, so they can install it that way. And our phone is not compatible with ROM manager, Mobile Odin and all similar stuff.
Do not compare other phones options, because it is differed.
Most important thing is - what do you want to do? If you asked that in first place, we would cut to the chase and save you a lot time.
I guess you have to guide him to do the installation Stock ROM JB, Senior.

Maybe he do not want Stock JB ROM.
BTW to save time:
Download JB firmware from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com, DOWNLOAD IT FOR YOUR PHONE MODEL - IF YOU HAVE I9070 THEN I9070, IF YOU HAVE I9070P THEN I9070P FIRMWARE - OTHERWISE YOU WILL HARDBRICK YOUR PHONE.
When you downloaded it unpack it if it is zipped, if it is in tar.md5 then you can use it without unpacking.
Guide for using Odin (with Odin link) is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985398 zip of it is password protected, you do have password on that page.
After that do factory reset if you get in a bootloop.
For CWM, download CoCore with CWM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140597
Unzip it, transfer kernel.bin.md5 to phone, install Universal kernel flasher and some root explorer like ES file explorer. Install kernel.bin.md5 from Universal kernel flasher reboot, and you have CWM on JB.
That is if you want JB and CWM on it. For GB - we do not have permanent CWM, only TWRP.

Friends, It seems that some users have successfully run ClockworkMod Recovery, but I myself have had no joy. The past two days I scoured this forum for fixes. I'll admit this is my first attempt to flash a custom ROM, and no little about Android, but as a legacy COBOL/DB2 programmer, I thought I was up to the challenge. Could you please review my procedure and advise.

PROBLEM:
Using ROM Manager to install ClockworkMod Recovery, ROM MGR indicates current
recovery is ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 but DOESN'T DOWNLOAD FASTY II ROM or do anything except reboot into Samsung Recovery 3e or the stock at&t ROM. (note: originally I wanted to install Cognition 4.5.3, but decided on FASTY II in the download list for my inaugural installation.)
PLATFORM:

Set option Settings/Applications/Development/USB Debugging
Rooted phone
App software intsalled: SuperUser v3.0.7(41) bin v3.0.3
App software installed: Titanium Backup - returned SU auth allowed
Ran backups - normal eoj
App software installed: ROM Manager premium - returned SU auth allowed
Ran ROM Manager ClockworkMod Recovery - normal eoj returned CWM installed and displayed BOTH Current and Latest Recovery as ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2
Ran ROM Manager Download - no exceptions, but result was undetermined.
Here, after perusing the XDA-Dev forum, I determined the following fix was in order to allow unsigned program execution:
App software installed: Root Explorer v2.17.2
Copy modified '3e' Recovery file to \System\bin
Rebooted and flashed CWM again via Rom Manager - same as before: no exceptions, but no variances.
Discovered one post advising to:
Remove external SD card and reboot per forum thread and Reran CWM Recovery, but still no variance or exception.
THIS IS THE CURRENT STATE.
I didn't continue with DesignGears post:
"Also you cannot just replace the recovery file... you have to replace the images
in sbin or in the zImage its self, otherwise you get errors and cannot do anything." because I don't understand the terminology. Could someone please elaborate on this specification?
So, I'd really appreciate a second set of eyes here before I run through this whole routine again. I haven't read every thread here, but if someone could direct me to the answers, I'd be grateful. Thanks for your help.

Click my signature link below. There u will find a link to a Guide that will give u ur answers.
I went with the ODIN installation and it worked to a tee.
A note for Noobs: Before you start check the specs for your ROM to see if it's based on Android 2.2 (froyo) or 2.3 (gingerbread) to determine which kernel to flash. The chefs use abbreviations (i.e. cognition is based on KB1) that you can look up the meaning for in this post:
IF HAVEN'T ALREADY, READ THIS FIRST
It does not matter which you use.
This is a transitory kernel and the entire point of flashing it to get cwm is to FLASH A CUSTOM ROM, which will flash a compatible kernel with it.
So, there is no need to boot into the os after the initial kernel flash, just boot into recovery after, which will now be cwm and flash whatever.
Unless you're going from froyo to gingerbread, then yo will need to flash the correct bootloaders with Odin/heimdall
3e recovery problem..need help on file location...
Hi,
I have been looking at information on putting the 3e recovery .zip file on my phone. I watched a video, this really should be simple BUT, things are never simple for me!
I followed instructions UNTIL I came to
Copy modified '3e' Recovery file to \System\bin
I have a recovery with permissions rwxr-xr-x 404.77k in the ROOT
I have another recovery.rc permissions rw-r -- r -- 1.99k in the ROOT
When I go to the system/bin (via Root Explorer) there is NO recovery in there.
Can I/or should I copy over the recovery (404.77k) in ROOT?
or should I put the 3e recovery file in the \System\bin?
Could this be because I did NOT root with superoneclick and used the Fugu Root Method and it put the recovery file in a different directory?
ConfusedThanks for any help.

gramme66,
If u r still running stock i897uckk4, then just get the .tar version of this kk4 based kernel [KERNEL][KK4][12/10/11] Corn Kernel v6.03 w/ custom CwM5, Ext4, working nandroid and put it in the PDA slot of Odin3 v 1.83 or similar and connect ur phone in download mode to ur pc and hit start after Odin shows recognition of ur phone. It only takes Odin about 8 seconds to install, then ur phone will reboot. Afterwards u can use the button combo (hold volume+ and volume - and power button at same time until u see the att splash screen. Then release and u should be in CWM Recovery).
Here is an Odin (extract it from the .zip once u have it on ur pc. Then right click it and run as administrator, click the PDA tab, navigate on ur pc to the .tar Corn Kernel, and etc.)... View attachment 858759

what was the original reason you wanted cwm? to flash a rom? cause...you have the that you need to do that now.
power down...both volume buttons and power til you see the at&t screen then let go, that will boot into cwm.
from there, plug your phone into pc, go to mounts and storage, and mount usb storage, the on your pc tranfer rom to your internel sdcard...

Got an issue. After following the steps on page 1 of this thread, I then download ROM Manager, installed Clockwork Recovery (but didn't get the Samsung Captivate option), then I rebooted into Revovery, and my screen got stuck. All it showed was "CwM recovery systems corps" and a gray bar at the bottom of the screen. So, I pulled the battery, rebooted, and the Clockwork Recovery mode came up just fine. I think I did something wrong. Can you help?

You are absolutely right, not very nice, absolutely right. I realized that NOWHERE to be found were the words ROM Manager on the first page. It's just that I've always automatically used ROM Manager to go into Clockwork Recovery. Anyway, I unstalled it, and the method now works flawlessly.
yep. i'm a ****. i have learned to live with it over the years, yet i dont expect anyone else to learn to live with it in one afternoon.

It doesn't work with this firmware always the same problem
I think there is a problem with the internal memory, have you seen the first photo?
formatting data it gave me this:
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
seems that it can't access to the memory
earlier you wrote that you could only find .tar and .dll file in the zip downloaded from sammobile.com, how were you able to flash that?
I read through the other threads.. found three more methods to try to get rid of this problem..
First one
using odin just flash the pit file first.. click on repartition but don't click on auto reboot... after its a success... flash rest of the three files I mentioned earlier (you didn't get those three files from the firmware you downloaded from sammobile.com, I don't know why, so maybe this won't work for you)
Second
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-rom-darkys-resurrection-edition-9-2.895/
use the above link to download Darky resurrection rom 9.2 .. its a froyo rom I know.. but first lets get your phone working then we can upgrade it to GB... This may work as I think it converts partitions to ext4 system (not sure) so that rfs system error that you were getting shouldn't cause any problems..
Third
Darky Resurrection 10.2
This also uses lagfix that is converting partition to ext4 but as mentioned in the link, it doesn't convert /system in ext4...
Also, go through the link below

maybe something in here could help

First one
using odin just flash the pit file first.. click on repartition but don't click on auto reboot... after its a success... flash rest of the three files I mentioned earlier (you didn't get those three files from the firmware you downloaded from sammobile.com, I don't know why, so maybe this won't work for you)

a link will be posted here in sometime where you'll be able to get all the three files along with the pit file for the stock rom.. That is the last thing as per me that can rectify your problem.. once you get all the files.. flash... if that doesn't work then I'll suggest download the stock rom for your region from sammobile and flash it even if its just one tar file before taking it to the service centre

What u just did was absurd. NOBODY flashes a custom rom on stock recovery! Also, NOBODY flashes CWM by changing the file name to update.zip!
Here's what you should do next:

It's just another form of download mode. It's the download mode when there isn't any rom installed on your phone I think. What you should do is to go to that screen, plug in your USB cable, and flash stock rom via odin.
Try following the guide in my sig.

dude i have one samsung galaxy y gt-s5360 and samsung galaxy 5 gt-i5500. i have flashed those two a hundred times using odin and never got any problem! den why i am getting stuck in galaxy mini only? even the procedure is all the same if flashing via odin in any of these samsung android phones!
Since you have experience in flashing phones you should've know that stock recovery is useless for custom roms... try getting USB jig, it might help... you can make your own very cheap, tietgan posted guide about it and I know that guide works, bcause I made one on my own and tested it

Flashing via odin only, doesn't mean u know how to flash custom roms. Anyways, u should've flashed cwm via odin and then using cwm for custom rom. So last resort is usb jig (as said by yackovsky) which should work most of the time. Else its service centre with the excuse u updated OS and the phone does not work now. Gud luck. Hope u get the mini back from the dead.

Rename ur ops file to TASS_v1.0.ops (for galaxy mini). This should work. Mbib download problem occurs only due to wrong name of ops file.
Also, note that if ur ops file name is wrong, You'll not see ur device model number on odin's title bar.
Hope this helps!!

Hi there,
This is my first Android phone, so I'm a bit lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have done some research, but I'd like to confirm that this is the way to do it. My phone is not rooted.
Firmware 2.3.6
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000BUJVI-CL1076478 [email protected] #2
GINGERBREAD.BUJVI
This is the steps I think I must follow:
1) Install CF-Root with Odin 1.83 (that's the version under which the I9000 is listed as compatible) - which CF-Root version should I use? Since I have BUJVI, do I need a JVI version? I found and downloaded CF-Root-XW_DBT_JVI-v3.7-CWM3RFS - will it work?
2) Install CWM 2.5.1.2 (this is the correct version for I9000 according to the official CWM website)
3) Install CM10.2
Is this correct? Is there anything else I should know?
Thanks!

1) Hope you had flashed the correct CF ROOT JVI would be for JVI ROM
2) You should include screen shot or more details as to what kind of bootloop you have, if it says
E:failed to mount /sdcard (files exists),
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard.
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 (invalid Argument)
than flash the attached file Edit: removed
3) to solve bootloop as above flash attached file as PDA using Odin3 1.83
4) But the problem seems to be you have BUJVI and you flashed XWJVI, DBT means its meant for germany
Galaxy S GT-I9000 EUR I9000XWJVI Android 2.3.3
Galaxy S GT-I9000 TCL I9000BUJVI Android 2.3.6
Galaxy S GT-I9000 DBT I9000XWJVI Android 2.3.3
so now you need to flash the original BUJVI kernel or flash that original ROM to solve it or flash a semaphore kernel to solve it or follow this and change to JVU rom and upgrade to ICS or Jelly Bean

Hi there,
Thank you for your answer! The phone shows only the Samsung Galaxy logo for a few seconds, then goes black and the logo shows up again, ad infinitum. I can get to download mode. My goal is to install CM10.2, so I should follow that tutorial and install JVU rom, right? However, I'm still not sure what file to download, they all have different version numbers and I don't know what they mean. I found these two JVUs, which should I use?
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
CF-Root-XW_TMN_JVU-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip (OLD !! Not the 2012 version !!) ---> This has my carrier on the file name (TMN), but I have no idea what it means to not be the 2012 version.
I also found the following original ROM, but it obviously doesn't have CWM.
I9000XWJW9_I9000TMNJV4_TMN.zip
Thank you for the help!

the bootloop you have is due to your ROM being 2.3.6 and you flashed a kernel was meant for 2.3.3
Basically, IF you are flashing the JVU, I had already attached the correct CF root file for it in that thread ( so no need for you to worry about it), Now if you are worried about the Modem which is what TMN means ( Portugal) It can be swapped after the upgrade if your reception is poor or fails.
look here for a guide on the ROMS meant for Portugal (look for region TMN), if you want one that must match with CF root kernel
But on the other-hand look here for all the stock Modems that you can flash at any time or simply serch for the BUJVI modem you have been using in google and here for ICS & Jelly Bean Modems that will work better with ICS and JellyBean ROM's
Frankly its not an issue, unless your phone is locked by contract with Portugal vodophone

Mate, you make huge chaos there. Xsenman has written you all the time step by step exactly what to do and you were improvising. Nobody knows now anymore which files did you flash and how did you set Odin.
Check my new thread for the whole proceeding: unbricking, upgrade or downgrade to CM10.2, root and all else. It contains valid download links for all files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444308
For upgrading to CM10.2 it seems to work anyway better to take off from Froyo and SpeedMod kernel, as many people upgrading from Gingerbread have either bootloops or buggy CM10.2.

What do you mean? I have not flashed anything that xsenman didn't suggest. I know exactly which steps I took:
Install all files from the JVU package (I9000XXJVU CFROOT) via Odin 1.83 following the tutorial on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434225. It worked.
Flash CM9.1 via CWM from this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592131 - got stuck at boot without CWM recovery, so I could not reflash CM9.1.
Flash Semaphore as suggested by Xsenman - still stuck so I tried again - still stuck.

ok , no worries, you can access CWM recovery mode by combo keys, so just flash the CM 10.2 or the CM 9.1 again
or you can take @tetakpatak advise and try it from froyo as the CM 10.2 is what you intent to have finally and it should work .

OK: if all the files were correct and you didn't check the repartition in Odin, you could find out with ADB why doesn't your i9000 reboot into OS.
But if you aren't familiar with ADB, rather save your time and just go towards my guide. That procedure already unbricked many i9000s.

I downloaded the cwm for my model (samsung galaxy note gt n7000) and flashed it when the mobile is in download mode using heimdall suite with the following command
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --no-reboot
I don't know whether the no-reboot has caused such error. But when I have gone through the readme.txt for heimdall suite help, it says that the no reboot only prevents it from automatically getting it rebooted but should work fine when we use the power button.

By flashing a new rom, u basically rewrites existing program and commands of your device, so if not due to wrong flash procedures or bad download, there's no way your phone won't boot.

Okay, but I have one more doubt about how to flash. I am thinking of flashing it with CM 10.2 and hence downloaded the zip. Now can I copy paste the zip file on to my external sd card, put it back to my mobile and flash it or is it better to use adb commands to transfer the file and flash. I just want to know whether the difference in these methods can cause any problem?

Thats incorrect...You cannot flash the file you got from CWM site on N7000. Now do not flash using CWM.. Flash a stock rom using Odin or download Philz kernel tar file and flash it usiing odin...
I meant which firmware... if it was JB, after flashing Philz XXLTA or XXLSZ kernel try to boot the phone...

yea I was having JB. So, now since that cwm which I have installed is wrong, now I can only install roms through odin? Can you tell me the versions of odin and cm that are compatible for n7000.

First get the phone booting... Install Philz XXLTA kernel TAR file using odin and check if the phone boots.

I have tried installing the above philz cwm 6 kernel using odin. But the installation failed. I am getting the following message after 2 minutes.

how did you install?
I got that the error is due to samsung kies which is trying to interfere with odin. I unchecked "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected" option from tools -> preferences in kies and tried. It worked and I got the phone booted normally back to JB now.
