[Q] Unable to play games (Real Racing 3) unless recently rebooted - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to play Real Racing 3, an admittedly 3D intensive game, on my Xperia Z1. But if the phone has been in standby for a few hours, the game loads incredibly slowly and the races are unplayable due to lag. Often the phone will lock up entirely and need its reset button pressed to restore life.
I know the Xperia can handle the game as it works fine straight after a reboot. But surely it cant be necessary to do this every time I have a break!
I am quite a tweaker and have installed a custom rom, rooted and unlocked the bootloader. I feel this is to do with CPU/GPU throttling probably from the "Performance Control" app but before I completely reset the phone I wonder if someone else has diagnosed and fixed the issue.
Specs:
Xperia Z1: C6903
Android: KitKat 4.4.2
Rom: RomAur v7.1
Kernel: 3.4.0 DooMKernel #16
Performance Control: 2.1.19
Real Racing 3: 2.3.0 [H692]

Flash the advanced stock kernel then give it a whirl. I've got no problems here running any game i'm on monx with the adv st kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632808

Thanks for the reply and I did give the new kernel a go but it didn't seem to sort it.
I then wiped the device and put on a clean iHackers V4.1 rom with kernel and that seems to have sorted it.
Cheers.

[Q] GNote problem... is this common?

i straight away rooted my Gnote after bought it from the store. so im not sure about the performance b4 root. I can see few problems after rooting e.g. below
1) battery drain very fast
2) RAM utilization very high even though i saw no weird apps running in background (in setting-running application ) @ 450 above over 797Mb
3) sometime the phone became heated
4) if the bat was at 10% and below, the soft touch button became un-functional. need to restart to gain back the soft touch button
below is my ROM info
baseband: n700XXLA4
Kernel Vers: 2.6.35.14- ver.4.2
[email protected] -k50IN
Build no: Gingerbread.XXLA6
Appreciate any of the experts here to give some solution of my problems
Thanks in advance!
No Sir It's Common at all,
You should surely change the rom you are using, and Why are you still on GingerBread 2.3.6 ? You Should switch to ICS for better everything, but do it safely, Here is my Guide :

Good Luck.

Same thing happened to me. It is common to heat up, it says so in the manual. As far as going to ics you should wait a little bit until things settle down and the roms become more stable. So far the smoothest custom ics rom is rocket rom v3
Stick with Gingerbread

just a heads up, Rocket rom v3 has a unsafe kernel. READ the ops instructions or you will likely end up with a brick
ooo thanks for the replies. so i think let me wait for some better ICS then. but is there any solution for GB for the time being?

[Q] LG 4X HD serious lag problems

My LG 4X HD was running 4.1.2 JB and using Optimus UI. Using it daily, I experienced lags in occasions such as: entering app drawer, presing the home button while running some apps, unlocking the phone etc. So I turned off animations, device was suffering lag less often, but still it annoyed me. I decidet to install CM 10.1 hoping that lags will dissapear, but nothing changed dramitacally. Phone runs smoother now, but it's still laggy(Animations turned off even now). I have installed cca. 10 apps on the device, and it shouldn't be a big problem for device with quad core and 1GB of RAM. Any ideas what could it be?
I had same problem with lag all around on 4.1. I had best experience in v10f, that is android 4.0.
my suggestion would be flashing original KDZ first and after doing so wipe it clean before attempting to flash custom roms. 4X has 4 cores and 1 GB ram should be able to handle multitasking well. Help this helps.

it's embarassing how lg doesn't support this phone that with the jb update is full of lags. I've installed cyanogenmod with yodak kernel. Now my mobile phone is a Ferrari
I for myself think that stock ROM (V20B) + iodak kernel v06 is the best combination possible for a good balance of performance and battery life.

Stock 4.1 vs Stock 4.3

im on .207 and im thinking go back to 4.1 .254
which is better?
i have a long time on 4.3 since .201 and i dont remember 4.1 perfomanence.
thanks
Do it!
I've used every stock 4.3 rom. Was very excited when it launched.207 is the best 4.3 rom,but for me after a while it starts to get slow, launcher redraws and everything and i decide to go back to .254. It was a GREAT decision, performance and ram management is far better than on 4.3,phone is much more snappier, and i like the interface design better than on 4.3.The only thing to me that's better on 4.3 it's x loud. Its louder than on 4.1 but not by a much.
I have 4.3 207 and its ultra slow when i open wifi, fb and messenger are ultra slow , and lags and phone hangs alot , rrally neef help, the phone is ltle smooth offline

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-sony-original-pure-stock-rom-12-1-1-t2859279, or for a more complete rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/development/rom-trueancestor-sp-lite-edition-v3-t2921869 with Minimizeer pack and the rom will be very fluid.

Do a nandroid backup, try slimkat and see
If last slimkat avoid access to sdcard, try slimkat 8.8.
If there is any problem, you can restore your nandroid backup...
So for no problem, you can save nandroid backup on pc
Stock 4.3
From my experience I can say the following...
In regards to 4.1.2 (stock):
+ Virtually bug free.
+ Smooth performance (good free RAM).
+ Exceptional battery life.
- Poor Wi-Fi range (only bug I found).
- Okay camera.
In regards to 4.3 (stock):
+ Great camera.
+ Smooth performance.
+ Receives media app updates (not sure about 4.1.2).
- Poor RAM managment.
- Uninstalling app graphic glitch/lag (can be fixed with replacement packageinstaller.apk)
So I personally would stick to 4.3 (I fixed the package installer) and am a light user so RAM doesn't bug me too much, the Wi-Fi issue on 4.1.2 was the only issue but killed it for me, otherwise 4.1.2 would've been perfect.

Yeah, that ROM is very popular and for a good reason-yet to try it though, I will wait till I am bored to death with stock ROM. Relating to the op, I don't like the feeling of being on an older android version when a newer version is available, hence another reason I'm on 4.3.
I also see you'll be selling your SP (sig), may I ask why?
After countless flashes I've decided there is no better firmware/rom available than the Stock 4.1.2 (.254) for this phone.
I don't care which android version it runs as long as it runs smooth and fast.

You have many installed apps? And it has little memory or memory ram? If this is the problem, will have to root q, and if you have a class 10 card, move apps to the card, if it is a basic, just move the light apps that do not require a large perfomace I in here my xperia sp android 4.3, I have no problems of slowness.
I have helped and I deculpe by bad english
Cr*p Software
As you mentioned it is slow for it's specs, the hardware is still strong by today's standards and can easily run Jelly Bean, the problem is the software and what Sony have done with it. I also have slow performance on JB 4.3, I have removed much bloatware and installed greenify but still have poor performance (can barely multitask, opening 2 tabs in chrome will close Walkman whilst playing music ). The reason is mainly the kernel, the min-free (RAM) values are poorly tweaked hence we have low RAM and performance. Compared to 4.1.2 JB, 4.3 JB is a lot more resource heavier due to the added high end graphics support.
Hi there,
As you've mentioned above, I think there may be some software installed that are slowing down your phone. If you use the stock rom, you can try backing-up your SMS, contacts and apps(always remember to backup), then factory reset the phone('wipe') in settings-backup and restore.
Also you can unlock and root the phone for a better performance, but be cautious, for unlocking void warranties.
I don't have apps installed...but ok,Sony's stock ROM is ****...why CyanogenMod ROMs have many problems too??
You can try flash a ftf file with flashtool. It totally rewrite the system on your phone.
Unlock bl and try cm11.
1. Flash stock .207 with flash tool
2. Root it
3. install custom recovery cwm and then try some custom roms for locked bootloaders from android developement section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/development
4.3 custom roms highly recommended for battery life

Yeah Sony's stock ROM for our phone is bad. CM11 (locked bootloader) is a million times better, no crazy battery drain, 400mb+ free RAM (will all my apps), very smooth. Its easy to install as well (no need to unlock your bootloader). Check this out.
Follow matsas's instructions as above but instead install CM11.

Our camera is not so good, so it doesn't take good photos or videos.
Can you detail more, what you mean by bad performance when seeing video? Lag ?
Thanks for your answer,
Yes, very often when i want to take a picture have to wait 30 s or a min. untill it's ready, and sometime it stop working and i need to restart app, when watch a video i alway have lags etc...
it's really frustrating.
I use clean master to also check memory usage and i always see that the minumum used memory is 85% or 90%, is there a way to free up some?

Strange. Camera should take a pic in max 5 seconds. Don't use clean master or any other app which "free ram", also don't install antiviruses (are not really useful) or apps which "save battery". These apps consume more battery and consume ram.
1) AOSP by JTeam. Has good battery backup, but also performance. It is based on 4.4.4 kitkat. It is pure android like Nexus one. If you need customisation options use Xposed Modules. If you want to install this rom, install this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54147880&postcount=961 because it is latest.
2) Sami OS v1.2 + cocore kernel v8.2 = same like aosp. SamiOS is based on jb 4.1.2.
3) Stock JB Debloated + cocore kernel v8.2 (i recommend UBLPK firmware).
Note that Cocore 8.2 doesn't have overclock / undervolting, but is most stable in my opinion. You can flash newer version if you need overclock.
I'm using AOSP by JTeam since 1month, i installed many apps and it still running smooth. But you also need to care of every rom.
Sami OS v1.2 ... Very good rom and it will always be my favorite 4.1.2 rom.
Some tips:
1) Use Greenify app. You find it in google play. It let you frezee apps which you are not using and them stay closed until you open them again.
2) Use SDMaid app, is in google play too. It can free some memory (not ram) of your phone.
3) Wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery if rom become laggy.
Thanks a lot!
it's really helpfull.
