I don't think it's as simple as that, not with a locked bootloader. Dexter has ported the one x Rom but it is far from perfect

honestly the guide is crappy and miss all the hardware dependent information and what needs to be modified to match current hardware and ANY framework change to support different functions.
OneX port was quite fine, but since telephony was rubbish and HTC made their own framework to support their own driver leaving out any support for other chipset, it is very hard to fix that one. except for that, i found the port quite stable except useless since phonecalls with GSM did not work

this is not related to a OneX port, it is just an app followed by a custom kernel to tweak performance, we got no kernel changes available (yet)
AW: Could this work to port a ROM from HTC One X ?
thats a pitty :/
but thanks for your answers

Hey Dexter what about your version of CyanogenMod 10 i see that is quite popular on OneX.
I know for the problems of other developer and official O4X version ... but life is going on...

you mean custonexus? or their new 4.2.x based edition? the one i use is currently not continued as i read the topic.
so my corrections are small and since kernel cannot change, we cannot do much.

i know it can work with kholk's release, since i tried the 3.0 paranoid on his, but since extSD is no good, i will wait until we get something stable with custom kernel too.. too many halfbaked roms are no fun.
Hi all,
I've heard of the SiyahKernel for the I9300 which has dual boot functionality.
Does anybody know if this works on the I9305? Or is there a dual boot kernel available which is made for the I9305 in special?
Reason why I want to have dual boot:
I'm a huge Ubuntu fan. And what I've understood from what I've read is that it's CM(10?) based. So I'd like to use that as second rom. (I know, there isn't a version for the I9305 available right now, but I'll give it a try to port it from I9300 to the I9305.)
Thanks in advance.
As far as I was aware there is no dual boot yet for our device
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
If their is then its in Development .
jje
Does it take much time to make a kernel which supports dual boot ?
Does anybody know how to port a kernel from I9300 to the I9305 ? Is it hard work to do that ?
And why does the 1GB extra and LTE support make such a difference for ROMS on the device ?
Thanks in advance.
Its not so much the difference as developers actually wanting to work on the phone . Nobody pays them its their choice what to develop . jje

1. Thats not REALLY hard, however you have to know what to do. Looking and comparing sources is good point to start. Take a look at gokhan or googy commits about dual boot for example.. Personally, I havent been interested in it, but I might look into it, why not
2. Apart from these, we have other radio, and that causes so much trouble with ROM differences..

It's cool that we have radio, but.... why do we need it ? seriously... we all have a mobile network subscription these days
Couldn't we just drop that in the beta/alpha versions, and add it in later then ? ;s

I mean, another radio, like baseband, ril etc. I wasn't talking about normal FM radio (we haven't even got one in i9305).
However, taking only these proper files (like ril + modem) from our ROMs and take them to i9300 ROMs might work, I tried some time ago doing same thing with temasek's cm10.1 and it worked.. Unfortunately I wasn't able to compile fully stable and well working kernel (based on temasek's sources) therefore I do not use it now ;p

But no need to be sad coz ... MIUI has included this phone in its list and Ported ROM is available for this device...

Hey friends,
For those of you who have been waiting, here is the good news.
I am so glad to present the latest (not exactly, but not old either) MIUI V5 3.8.2 for our SHV-E120S S2 HD device.
Whats working:
Seriously speaking I have not done a explicit testing on this build, but have briefly gone through almost all the things and found those to be working. :good:
Whats not working:
There is no keyboard installed by default. You need to skip all the settings in the beginning and then you can install a JB keyboard and then setup your phone.
Problems:
I found the Camera app not fully functional. If you want to simply click pictures then its working great. But I found a few problems while video recording. The speed at which the camera takes photos is pretty quick and for the video is pretty laggy.
NOTE:
1. I am not the creator of this ROM, I have simply ported it to our device.
2. Make sure you have taken the necessary backup of your existing ROM before flashing this one.
Flashing Process:
1. Copy the downloaded file to your sd card where you can access it easily.
2. Boot into recovery and take a backup of your existing system (in case any thing goes wrong)
3. Cleaning up
3a. Wipe data/factory reset
3b. Wipe cache partition
3c. Go to Advanced option and wip dalvik cache
4. Choose install zip and point it to the location where you copied the downloaded miui zip. It will take around 2 mins.
5. Repeat steps 3a, 3b and 3c.
6. Reboot your device.
While starting for the first time it may take some time and any subsequent restarts will be much faster.
WARNING:
And I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong with your device. Please flash this at your own risk.
Although I flashed the same and had no problems at all. I have experienced a good battery backup with this ROM.
Those who flash this ROM, please share your experience with others. And it would be great if someone could put up a video of the flashing process and the performance of the phone once you have flashed the ROM.
Without any further delay here is the download link for the same:
Build 01: 2013_08_20
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BycWzcfvhoryUEd4Nnk1SXZQS28/edit?usp=sharing
Build 02: Coming Soon...
But I would need people to test it once.... coz I don't have enough time to test it.
Also if anyone would like to see the screenshots, you can find those here:
http://www.mediafire.com/folder/za31zscots5b5/MIUI_V5_ROM
Happy Downloading, and please hit the Thanks button if you like my work. I just hope if works for you all
Lastly I would like to thank
MIUI team, MIUIAndroid team, osm0sis and Tinus81 (the link you gave did the trick ) for helping me out.
Thank you.

NO!!
I don't exactly know how these devices (E120S, E120L & E120K) are different from each other...but please don't do any such thing...
You could brick your device (just guessing)....
Search a ROM for your device and i am sure you will find one....I would be very happy to port this rom for other models like yours....but i don't have that device to test the same....
Thanks
Hi shrewdy I just bought a brand new SHV-E120S from ebay it should arrive tomrorrow so I am just downloading your rom ready.
I have been reading contradicting specs for this phone can you confirm what bands it actually supports ?
From what I can tell I can get gsm and 3g here in the uk but possibly lte because some sites say it supports 3 lte bands and some say just 850mhz
Would you say best option is to flash stock ics then cwm then this rom ?

Hey Buddy,
you can find more information about the phone at this link http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_hd_lte-4198.php
The stock roms are not good enough for this phone....actually speaking none of the ROMs are absolutely perfect for this phone...coz there are not many developers who know about this device.
The phone itself is quite a capable device but its a sad thing that no one supports the phone directly...so people like us have no choice but to port different roms which i must say are not so perfect...
Anyways there are a handful of ROMs available for this device...you can try each one and see which suits you....I really need the camera working absolutely fine and so i use iR2 ROM (Version 3)...
Hope you find answers to your questions.
Thanks.

Yes shame there is not much of a following on this phone it looks good and was ahead of its time !
It would also be good if someone had the time to put in a thread all the different roms, download links what versions etc on main page here............as there are not many I guess it won't take long !
Yes I saw the specs on GSMARENNA but some say they are wrong regarding the bands that are on the SHV-E120S..........anwyay mine has arrived so its time to unbox and flash !
Do you have a dwonload link for the rom you recommend ? Does everything work ? From reading it appears that FOXROM is about as bear perfect as you can get ? but its ICS.

Alright,
You can find the link for the ROM i was speaking about in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44691364&postcount=1941
You can refer to this document for a list of ROMs available for our device: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AosAjYg4w51XdHkxNlRzWFk4UllTTHFNd1JpLW9TWHc&output=html

Thanks for the links..............I put a modified stock version on last night and it seems to be stable but very battery hungry so I intend on trying the IR32 tonight which I am hoping is much better ! It didn't download in time !
Shrewdy I think the ROM I tried it was one you posted you tried because it was a zip of a MD5 file with your initials in the file name.
Also just to report for anyone in the uk who purchases this phone it appears that becaus the phone only gets 1 out of the 2 3g bands you can only obtain 3g speeds no H at all unless of course its the rom I am using.
I think the build quality of the phone is a lot better than the S3 and looks more expensive !
If I can get the battery lasting a day then I will be happy I am not bothered about the 4g or H speeds really thats what we hav WIFI for

I am sorry buddy but i really dont have any idea... i just ported the original thing to our device....
If the original MIUI has support for Spanish language then this will have it too..
I searched around and found these links which might be useful...
This one teaches you how to create your own language pack/or translate things
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789566
This one gives you a list of language packs you can download for MIUI (but older version)
http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/miui-v5-multi-lang-3-5-31.20664/
Now i am not sure if things work for you if you download the language pack and apply it to this rom...i dont know what will happen...
Hope something works for you...
Thanks.

Shrewdy, I recently buy one of this one (E120S) and I've been looking for a better rom that "full of bloatware" official one. I know you're experienced a lot with this device, so my question is simple: is still this ROM the best stable and compatibility version that you have used? I know this is a noob question, but since your original post is in August, maybe you have a better experience with new a ROM.
About the camera, have you solved the lag during video taking?
Thanks for your answers!!!

Bro... this rom (MIUI 3.8.2) is not the most stable version... My rom is based on the MIUI's Development version which is probably never stable.
If you want a stable rom (which i dont think there is...) it is SVN ROM 1.2... this is the fastest, smoothest and most stable rom i have used until now on my shv-e120s.
Try that rom i am sure you will like it.

Edit: this all relates to the i957 and P7320 variants, and not the P7300/P7310
The p5att device (i957) was removed from the msm8660 kernel when CM10.1 was created. I've been trying to get some simple things like the display working using some source from CM10 without much success :-\ So I'm thinking if there isn't the next version of JB working, KitKat is looking unlikely for the time being, unless we can get some more devs to help.

Most of the issues seem to be around the display driver and the Qualcomm msm8660 implementation in jb4.2. that combined with nothing else which seems to use the same display panel means no graphics or even worse an MSM core dump. I'm not sure how to debug those either... I did manage to get log output from the kmesg but it didn't help me much, others may have better luck. Half the fun is getting it to compile in the first place...
Well, we all hope that someone will make a port of CM11

this is not a easy question for random guys like me with almost zero knowledge about developing, although on the other hand a developer could simply explain how its done by f.e. making a thread about porting roms specifically to our i9305 in noobs language (if possible) but i doubt that this will happen, as it is very much time consuming and a lot of thinking and typing work. personally i think a thread like this would bring some life into our i9305s threads, dont you think so..?
to get you already started with some learning and discovering for yourself, read further..
the best method for porting roms is IMO building from source, but this is not as easy as it sounds..
first you will need to set up a build environment. I assume youre using Windows OS, now if you got a 64 bit system this is exactly what you need.. fortunately for you and others there is a custom branch of the Ubuntu OS thanks to @sylentprofet to use with Oracles VB/VM (Virtual Box/Machine) already preconfigured for building or porting roms (both require building/developing experience though) all you need to do is download the source and commit, fork, cherry-pick etc. if you decide to step into the android development world, you will learn more step by step however having some basic knowledge like terminal commands and git commands would be useful.
Also you need to get familiar with github and how it is used, check out here
I recommend lots of research though before actually taking any actions!! all these things will make you feel :silly: at times, but do not give up! for there were is a will, theres a way
good luck :good:

your welcome bro :good:
i really have no idea about how linaro is used in combination with kernel, you really have to google that one or get in contact with a dev. willing to help you out i think the kernel is automatically installed with your build when youre initializing/syncing repos and with commands in terminal its executed to build it. you can of course compile own kernel with modifications but as i said it needs lots of research, wish i could help you..
try for now some basics with the guide for gaining more experience and who knows what you will be capable of in next 2/3 months or less
