I have requirement where I need to have a phone without a Camera.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, of which I plan to remove camera.
I have got the service manuals with me, and they suggest that Camera module is connected on a connector and can be removed.
But what I would will the phone function normally without camera module?
or will it malfunction or fail to boot??

Are you kidding me ?
You are likely to mess up if you try to do that. If you don't want camera, don't use it or remove the camera app. But don't try to remove anything on your own !

My workplace requires phone without camera, or camera removed.
I dont think removing Phone Camera is concern,
I am not sure if there are any checks in the Firmware which checks presence of Camera Module.
Also what will Firmware if it does not find camera module connected at all.

First of all Wrong Section mate. Secondly, why not cover the camera lens from inside your Galaxy Ace's backcover. Also delete the camera app.

I broke my screen last week , it fell and was damaged, and the camera stopped working too. I fixed the screen, but the camera is still offline, tried to change the rom, but no changes., i am getting the "Error, camera not available". When i click on camera icon, it shows a black screen after some delay and then right away an error message pops up with "Error! Camera not available". When i load this from any application, such as snapchat or instagram, it crashes the application. Has anyone dealt with such issue before? Give me some hope, what could be wrong.
The camera was not working even before i replaced the screen. (The screen repair was good, i made sure nothing was touched that should'nt be touched.
The phone's proximity sensor seems to be a bit off too, the phone also vibrates ( like it received a text message) randomly.
Unrelated issue: the screen i install has a round ring that appears if i press the screen to hard at a certain spot. it's not too annoying but it is there.

Well i didnt opet Z1 before, so i dont know if you can only replace flat cable (if that is problem) or you must replace whole camera module.
Best bet is to give to service center, probably they will put new module on it, and its best in my opinion.

Most likely put a new module in there as the modules are machine made are probably solid.
Status Update
So i opened the phone again, and seems like i was able to fix the screen issue.
Issue of camera remains. I removed the camera from the socket, and disconnected its wire from the motherboard. When i accessed camera without wire connected, it straigth away went to "ERROR. Camera not available. Earlier, when wire was connected, it took about 5 seconds and then outputted the Error. Flash/ Front camera are still not accessible or usable even when front camera was plugged out.
Weird vibrations are felt randomly, i am still trying to pinpoint what causes them, but they have decreased significantly.
My question now is, will replacing the camera fix the camera issue? Or is there a deeper wire/motherboard issue here? What would be your next step to investigate it further. Also, can this be not a broken screen issue but a camera issue covered in warrantly?
Additional info: i have tried reinstalling ROM, flashed T-mobile's original ftf file, cleared camera cache, files etc. used 3rd party apps but no success.
#####SOLVED: SCREEN HAS WEIRD FLOATIES WHEN WE TOUCH AREA NEAR THEM
This is caused because of dust between the digitizer and the back of the phone. To fix this, simply open the phone up and remove any dust particles between the digitizer and the phone. Screen will work perfectly after that.

Update: so bluetooth call recieving does not work, people call me, and if i pick it up, voice does not work over bluetooth anymore. music skips randomly too. My question was that will camera module replacement fix this? or is this a deeper issue, such as cable that connects the camera module? what will i need to replace .
I don't think that anybody here could answer your questions. You should take your phone tot a service center.

SOLVED it.
Fixed it! The issue was that the back camera module was malfunctioning. Because of that, phone chip that controls camera (also controls vibrations) was not functioning properly. I bought a used camera module from ebay, plugged it in and phone works perfectly now
Feel free to pm me if anyone else has questions about this, or need help dismantling phone. Xperia Z1s I AM BACK!!!
Hello! what i need to do if i have problem with camera? only change to another phone? maybe its software problem? can i change camera module from galaxy s6 to note 4 ?
Honestly, get a replacement. I went through 4 of them to finally get one that doesn't have the issue. As for the swapping the camera module with an S6 one, there's a guy doing that very thing right now. I don't remember what thread I saw it under but he has reported that auto focus does not work at all and has to be manually done. So you'll just be in the same boat plus you would have to mod the camera housing and solder a new ribbon connector as it's not long enough.

Didnt focusing, need to wait 30 seconds
Have you tried just hitting it? you can flick the hell out of the camera area to try and get the rollers unjammed if that's the issue. Here is what's inside there if you're curious whats causing the issues. That or your electromagnetic stage might not be working properly. Yeah I can't get S6 optics to focus yet, I'm going to manipulate an S6 ribbon cable and run it in a test setup just to see if my tinkering is what's messing up auto focus or if the module just will not work in the note 4 at all without software tweaks.

Maybe it's an omnivision sensor... it's not guaranteed that this sensor is sony IMX258
The serial number is from a Sony sensor.
And? is anybody manage to do it?
I still have the IMX258 with me! Anyone wants to buy , PM me.
It did not work for me.
I replaced the sensor:
A0 0-FILM WH273 (Kernel Menu: Version Back Camera: ofilm_s5k3I8)
with this one
OHP0240 A0 0-FILM WG493 (Kernel Menu: Version Back Camera: Not support)

Sadly no difference after reflash. Took the fastboot file from here. http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Any other ideas ?
I wish someone would reply. A $10 sony sensor is a worthwhile upgrade to this phone.
Maybe double check that the connector is seated properly. Maybe you need to install the correct driver manually. Regardless, this needs to get more attention!
Did you try using a custom ROM such as LineageOS?
Yes, installed the following:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...other-development/rom-lineageos-14-0-t3566095
Also installed the firmware.
Does anyone know how the ROM detects the different hardware settings of the phone?
I think xiaomi uses at least three different camera sensor types.
Sounds like a great idea to replace the sensor. I hope some smart XDA members figure out how to load the camera drivers after swapping sensors.
I changed camera sensor.
I succeeded in converting from Samsung to Sony.
@junyajunya
can you post us where you bought the sensor and what is writen on it?
Anything you had to do, so that the sensor could be used?
in aliexpress I bought 32824022365

Hello, my Mi A2 seems to have a strange effect when focusing on the primary lens. I would just like to know if this is normal or not. It seems when on the low light lens the focus is even across the image but the primary lens it seems to wash from one side to the other.
Here is a video to illustrate.
Does anybody else's do this? Thanks!
I've been having the same issue for a while now! It's very annoying and I have no idea how to fix it! I've been using the low light lens and just taking pictures with that. I cannot tell if it is a hardware or software issue either. I'm going to install a custom rom soon, just haven't had time to do it, so hopefully that fixes the issue!
i think it's a software issue, because after capture everything is OK

I still have issues after capture. If I'm capturing text the top half is unreadable in portrait because it's so blurry, and when I tap to focus on the top it doesn't help.
Same issues here
I have exactly the same issue... It seems like the extremes of the picture are better and the sides really blurry. For text is really bad, and also for pictures when you want the focus not being in the center. As you mention, touching the focus does not help.
I have no solution for now, thinking on sending it back...
Doubed HW issue
I'm sorry to say I feel it like a HW issue as I am facing the same issue with GCam in my MI A2.
i too have the same problame even after capture...
It's fixed on my phone now, unfortunately I had to get a new camera module. The issue is likely caused by a misaligned lens element, so the only option is to swap the camera module or warranty the phone. Mine works great now. Shouldn't have had to fix it but I guess these things happen I guess.

I didn't think the front camera had anything to do with face unlock, it's the Soli module that does face unlock.

Clear system cache on boot menu.
Do a hard reboot (not reset!)

It seems the problem is physical... hopefully.
Closely inspect the ribbon cables and contacts of the front cam for damage or misalignment.
Use magnification as needed.
Make sure any ground points to this module were not overlooked. A longer screw perhaps?
The chassis is aluminum so that is a potential grounding point for mounted components like the front cam.
You did disconnect the battery first, right?
I looked at the tear down vid... I feel your pain.

Or does the cam module need to be flashed?
Or both?
