I have a Nook HD+ that had CM11 installed on it, but recently, the boot time on it went from just under a minute to five minutes (with a 50/50 fail rate). After a failed reboot, I forced it off and turned it back on, only to discover later on that the stock firmware installed it'self back on. Can this happen? What could have caused this?
If you still had stock recovery installed on internal memory the Nook has a boot failure repair mechanism where if it fails to complete a boot 8 times in a row it initiates a self repair where it reinstalls the factory ROM to itself. If you had CWM or TWRP installed to internal memory replacing stock recovery, it will still try to repair itself after an 8 failed boot but will not complete the repair without stock recovery.

Welp, good thing I have a backup. Too bad it's not too recent...
Was there a section on installing CWM in your thread? I don't quite remember seeing it.

If you are talking about the dummies thread, yes, the instructions say to download and install 3 files. One of them is CWM for internal memory. (Edit: But now after looking back at what you installed it was CM11 and my dummies thread does not cover CM11. You must have followed some other guide)

I think I followed one of your guides, but in place of 10.2, I used a CM11 build I found on the Cyanogenmod wiki.

Wish I stayed with 4.2.2
This was allegedly a STABLE version as those are the only ones Im pdating to per my CM update settings.
I do not use nightlies.
Unfortunately I lost connection to GOOGLE PLAY STORE on both of my Nook hd+ tablets...same night I ran the update to 4.3 from 4.2
Im getting the constant *No connection..Retry* error.
Watched many *fix-it* videos on YouTube.....none of the tricks worked.
cleared, data, cache, force stopped, rebooted, unistalled, reinstalled......nothing.
unistalled again 4.4.21 and even istalled the latest 4.4.22 Gogle play store......still the same error.
very frustrated since this was allegedly a STABLE version.
Now I cannot access the Play Store with both of our tablets.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated !

That did the trick.....
I remember the need for new gaps when 4.3 came out a while ago.
I thought it needed to be done only then by those that wanted to upgrade early.
I (wrongly) presumed that the new gapps would be included with new 'stable' versions CM ROMs.
(Especially since no warning or instructions for new gapps popped up during 4.3 installation).
Now I know that gapps is something that always needs to be installed separately.
Thank you for your reply leapinlar !!

There is no need to look for newer version of Gapps. Just follow the guide below

The guide you linked attempts to look for solutions to the issue, which may not solve the issue.
The best/only way is to update gapps if you upgrade your Android version.
You can download all gapps from here: http://goo.im/gapps (they are current changing servers which host the files, so you may run into problems if you try right now; later on should be perfect).
All the best.

all i did was do an upgrade. then loaded the appropriate gapps.zip. idk how to delete the cache from the store itself. also whenever i try to use anything google related, it basically cause the gapps process to force close.
Go to settings apps all you will find all the Google apps listed there. If that doesn't work do a factory reset and try again,

To get back to a functional HD/HD+, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD. Use that to flash a plain stock zip from item 6 followed by a factory reset with CWM. That should take you back to stock and you should be able to start over.

I am trying to install CM10.1 hybrid mod on my NOOK HD+ 32GB. I want to boot from both the stock rom and CM10.1. The instructions in the following link are followed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300132
However, it wasn't a successful mod after I installed CM10.1 ROM and google app. In the boot menu, CM10.1 option is gray and if I boot to BN stock rom, the CM logo shows up. The CM logo stays forever without boot into the CM ROM. I cannot access any ROM.
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to revert back to the original NOOK HD+ ROM without the CM bootloader? I appreciate your help.

You are right. The rom is from the CM site - download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=ovation instead of that thread.
I assumed (seems a wrong assumption) that CM10.1 ROMs are the same and I tend to use an official one. Now, I can install the CM ROM from that thread using the same instructions, but I want to restore the stock NOOK HD+ ROM first. The stock one works well for me.

And you will probably have to start over with your hybrid SD (reburn and reboot) to get the hybrid files set up properly on internal.

Thanks, that stocked ROM works. Now I am trying to do hybrid or pure SD installation. One question regarding the installation in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300132 is that if I take the SD card out, could NOOK HD+ boots straight into the stocked ROM without the step of cyanoboot menu? I.e., nothing is installed into the system partition of the internal memory. It seems like this, but I don't want make a wrong assumption.

For the old "pure" for CM10.1, yes that is normal. That is why bokbokan and I developed the hybrid to prevent that. His new "pure" for CM10.2 does not do that. It has to do with the number of partitions on the SD.

I want to upgrade to 11 releases but not able to do it. initially it was due to the CWM. now i have the latest cwm installed.
I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602796
but everytime after installing all the thre zips( recovery,Cm11,pa gapps ) when i reboot it is simply stuck at cyanoboot universal bootloader logo.only option i have is put the micro sd in and reboot and restore the back up again.
Can anyone help me on this. i dis the install after factory reset so it's clean.
one thing i do noticed is the CM11 got installed within 2-3 seconds. is this supposed to be so quick.
I already tried the full process twice but no luck. :crying:

I have CyanogenMod Version 10.1.3-ovation on my Nook Hd+ and I tried to update by going to CyanogenMod updates in the settings menu. It is set for stable only and I downloaded cm-10.2.1 and when I click the Apply update button, it says.......
"You are about to upgrade to cm-10.2.1-ovation.zip.
If you press Update, the device will restart itself in recovery mode to install the update.
Note: This feature requires a compatible Recovery or updates will need to be installed manually."
I click update and the device reboots but does not update. I want to know what do I need to do to update. Please let me know!
Do you have CWM installed internally? That is what it meant by having a compatible recovery. You also need to update the gapps to the 20130813 version. Your best solution is to go to the Dummies guide linked in my signature and follow that for installing CM10.2. But skip the step about factory resetting if you want to keep you installed apps.

Thanks for replying. I installed this about a year ago and I actually had to Google CWM to see what that was and I am not sure if I have that installed internally. I know I did something with an microSD card when I installed and there is no card in now. I'm still new at this as I haven't done anything to this tablet in about a year. I will check out the Dummies guide a little later but I want to know if I have to redownload the CM10.2 as well linked in the dummies since it was downloaded to the tablet when I tried to update, or do I just strictly follow the directions on the Dummies?

It is probably best to redownload the files per the guide. The only step to skip is to not factory reset per the guide. That way your installed apps still will be there.

Thanks a lot for the help. I will do this as soon as I find my microSD! One more question for future reference, so how do I update from the device in the future just by downloading an update straight from my Nook? Sorry, that's what I tried to do in the first place and I thought that cyanogenmod would update everything when I checked in the settings and there was an update to download. Once again, I appreciate your help greatly and thanks!
Well, first of all there will be no more updates to CM10.2, only CM11. Secondly, updates to CM11 will not work from CM10.2 using the update procedure because it requires entirely different CWM and files. Once you have manually updated once to CM11, you can use the update procedure to update to a newer nightly or version of CM11. The key that was missing for you and caused the update failure was you missed a step in your original install and did not install CWM to internal memory. That is required for the update procedure to work.

I've ran into an issue with my Nook HD+ that is a bit strange. The short version is I can boot into CWM 6.0.4.6 (EMMC), but the Nook otherwise bootloops, crashing on the CM11 boot animation.
Here is the long version:
-Ran the latest CM11 nightlies, issues arose shortly after installing xposed/xmultiwindow, it ran for a while before I hit bootloops/booting into a crashed system ui. Can't confirm correlation, since it ran for a month before issue. Running a mid October nightly.
-Flashing CM11 gave a Status 7 error, invalid symlinks.
-CM10.2, Slimbean/kat, TWRP all flashed successfully but never actually wrote (yes, all ovation/HD+ specific).
-Wont boot from SD
-Factory Reset crashes CWM
-Formatted /system and /data successfully, but i ran a backup as a test and everything still appears to be there (apks, etc.)
-Flashed stock 2.2 and recovery, halted on the "Ovation" assert, when i removed the assert the install just aborted.
-8 interrupted boot cycles didn't solve it.
That is where I'm at now. The only 2 other roads I've seen is I have an EMMC brick and it's hopeless (but I never enabled TRIM/was mindful of which nightly i flashed), or /bootdata went bad on me. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed? Let me know if there is any more information i can provide.
Thanks for all this community does, I've been a lurker since the glory Nook Color days.
Sounds like a brick to me. With CM11 it can brick as it tries to run trim automatically on some devices.

NOOOOO. Thank you for the response, I figured, I just didn't want to believe it.
Just two follow up questions:
•If the EMMC is bricked, is there still hope for an SD boot?
•Futile as it may be, I noticed you were able to create /bootdata recoveries. Do you mind sharing how to go about that?

If it won't format, attempting to fix bootdata will not help.
And yes, both verygreen and succulent have made SD versions of CM that run with bricked emmc. I don't know where to find succulent's since he does not post on xda, but you can find verygreen's by searching for 'noemmc'.
