I've got a Sprint HTC One (M8) running BadSeed's stock rooted 1.54.651.8...
I have 2 issues with the keyboard:
1. For apps that want numeric input, the keypad has no decimal-point, just 0-9, back and enter.
I ran into this using the fuelly app, which is just a front-end for the website m.fuelly.com.
Maybe they're marking the field as wanting the wrong numeric type - I'm not sure, but it worked with my Evo 4g LTE.
2. So I installed an alternate keyboard app (smart keyboard), but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the input method anymore.
Long-press in an input field doesn't do it, and neither is there a keyboard icon in the statusbar while doing input as some have suggested.
Does anybody else have these problems, and if so, know any solutions?
Ah - found a workaround to #1...
Accidentally stumbled across the fact that when a keyboard is up, you can swipe the whole thing left or right to get alternate layouts. (Who knew?)
Still don't know how to switch to a 3rd-party keyboard though, but for now I no longer need to.

Guys,
I have no idea how to do this myself, or if its possible, however I am wondering if any of you might know how to develop a way to change the way that we presently use for changing the input type on our devices. At the moment i have to touch a really small area, and just wondering if we can make it bigger or different?
For example, at the moment, if i want to go from keyboard input or block recognizer input (for example) to keypad input, i have to touch the little "up" arrow next to the input pad symbol using the stylus really as its such a small contact area. Is there anyway this can be made bigger so that i can touch it with my thumb whilst on the fly and change input styles?? I hate having to get my stylus out to change input mode when i'm on the fly!
Would appreciate some little tweak to make this a one handed operation! Thanks.

Hello, it's my first post, I would like just to say hello.
I've searched forum but I haven't found solution to my problem. As said in the title, I cant change text input method. Whatever I choose, the option comes back to full qwerty mode. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I take some additional steps to get it working?
Regards, fck.
Input methods...
How are you trying to change the input methods? I may be missing the obvious, or you may be, so we'll start at the top.
Open up any app where you can access the SIP's (soft input panels)... try Word or Notes. Tap the keyboard icon at the bottom centre of the screen, now tap the tiny arrow to the right of the icon and choose an option here.
Let me know what this does
Ah! Thank you very much! It does work. I was changing it in settings/input/then chosen keyboard. However, it still doesn't work for me to change input method from settings tab. Why? The same problem occurred on stock t-mobile rom and so as on custom one..
So I've been using swype recently and some things really bug me and have no idea how to fix it. Every time I want to type something and the swype keyboard comes up, it always has the selector arrow present. So if i want to type anything that starts in the upper left right where W is, I have to wait like 3 seconds for the arrow to disappear otherwise, accidentally hit the arrow.
PS. can someone also tell me how to DELETE words. "Soooooo" is in the dictionary for some reason -_-
Not sure to what selection arrow you are referring, but if you go into Swype settings (long press the Swype key) there is an option to manage three user dictionary.

when you first hit a text box, the swype keyboard comes up. there is a selector slider arrow in the text field, light blue right where the "W" key is on the captivate portrait mode.
i know of the user dictionary, however, is there a way to delete the built swype words..

I dont think there is a way to delete from the prebuilt dictionary unless you modified the root file somehow.
Heres a little bit on swype though. I love it. I have used it for almost 2 years now as my only keyboard because Im sold on texting and typing with one hand. Heres the bad part. Swype tries to be an application that can go on almost any Android phone. This attempt to be universal really makes for an application that doesnt perform to its peak on any one phone. To elaborate, swype always has background processes running. Why? Why does a keyboard need that? Second, it does have bugs. More than once it just stopped letting me input text and I was forced to uninstall and reinstall the beta application.
So pick your poison here. You can deal with an app that isnt going to ever be what it could be, or pick a keyboard made for your phone or just one made better. (I stuck with swype.)
Pretty sure the stock keyboard runs in the background too. And when it locks up on you, just switch to the stock keyboard and it will have frozen too. Then switch back

Swype pet peeves
It turned out to a bloatware with Swype connect spying on you.
I'm using stock Samsung KB on ICS, it has my 2 languages. Not ideal for everyone. There is also Android KB which has all the langs.
I recently upgraded my wife's droid4 to JB and now whenever she uses the hardware keyboard, it starts putting in a row of predictions on the bottom and hitting any of the numerical keys, puts in the prediction instead of actually inserting a number. I tried changing the various keyboard settings but can't seem to find the one that controls this.
help
Hey all,
My new m8 (AT&T, 4.4.2, rooted) is having some issues. After a restart, I went to type a text and got no keyboard popup or notification to select input. I assumed my Swype trial had expired, went and uninstalled the trial and tried to install the full version. On the second screen, it tells you to select the Swype + Dragon keyboard, but when I select it, nothing changes; it just goes back to the Swype app telling me to select the keyboard. I'm not even getting the stock Android keyboard anymore, and I can't bring up the input selection through anything other than the Swype app. (On a similar but potentially random side note, it also won't let me change my auto-rotate setting. If I enable it, it immediately disables itself when I change screens.) I downloaded SwiftKey and it gets stuck on the same screen, but when I select it, the keyboard will pop up in texts (it just has a notification that I need to finish installation.)
Just trying to avoid a fresh install...
EDIT: if I select the stock keyboard, I can also get that working (the notification to change input also comes back), so it's now just Swype.

May i suggest you to try Swiftkey instead of Swype? Swiftkey is a great keyboard, it does also have the "swype" feature and recently, full version of Swiftkey became free compared to Swype which cost around 5$ and it was also recently updated to support emoji.
Btw you have posted in the M7 forum, forum for the M8 is here
