have you tried other file manager?
already try cyanogen file manager, file expert hd, not working.. what file manager can i use? any suggestion?
Are those files on your external SD card? Since KitKat, only system apps have full read/write access to the external storage.
Either use the provided File Commander, or root and modify the SD card permissions with an app like this, then any file manager will work again.

Or use File Commander if it's preinstalled in your rom. It's a system app, therefore has full read and write permissions for external storage.

You have to find where the bootanimation.zip is already on your phone. I would suggest using Root Explorer or ES with root permissions. The reason I say to search for it is because mine was in a place where I hadnt seen mentioned before.
Anyway, once you have found bootanimation.zip you just replace it with the new one. You put the android_audio.mp3 in the same folder as the bootanimation.zip.
how do i install this original HTC BOOT ANMIATION and SOUND?

No you have to go to the folder system/customize/ and open the file CID default.xml in an editor. Find the line :
<BootAnimation animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip"/>
in the file and change it to
<BootAnimation audio="/data/local/android_audio.mp3" animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip"/>
this will fix the problem
Thank you so much for sharing .. :cyclops:

Here's another thread, with an in-depth tutorial on setting file permissions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857648. Hope that helps someone.

It might well do but it will cost you €3.50 for the privilege, which might be ok if you were going to use it a lot but for a couple of files, No. Unfortunatly the free version is very basic and has not options to change permissions. Is there any way to do this from a pc, could you change the permissions of the file before you copy it to the phone or does it have to be done while residing on the phone or sdcard by an app installed on the phone.

You have to change the permission when the file is in the phone. Luckily, you can use an app called Total Commander. Its completely free and lets you do everything Root Explorer does and more. You can download it from the Google Play. You can also download various plugins associated with it for more features. Here is the link,

Hi! Just like my apk thread, I pulled them from the stock Nexus 4.4.2 rom. Just navigate to system/media and use a root explorer to delete and replace! Now don't get curious and delete the entire system folder, ok? I'm not responsible if you do that.

Hello, I use an stock and not rooted firmware (.133) from Vodafone Germany. yesterday I try to copy pictures, Videos to the SD Card with the build in tool from sony. But I became an error message
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and the copying stopped. Only folder was created.
Then I move all files they exists on SD card to the internal storage and format the SD Card with the option under the settings. now I can't copy the files back to the SD card with any file Explorer.
Has the build in format and copy files to SD card option stopped working since Android 4.4.4 and I must root for this?
Anyone with the same problem?
Sorry for my English :-/

You have to use a system app to write to sd card on KitKat
To get round this you can use the file commander app that comes with the ROM or
Root and apply the sd card fix found in the general section or use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=en (Requires root)

I did this with my old xperia Z easily WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader. But with Z1 it's a different story. After the root (easyroot method) I realized that SDfix doesn't work because the system folder is mounted READ ONLY. Now I stucked, even if my Z1 is rooted, sytsem folder is not writable, so totally useles. Trials to mount the system folder r/w manually failed too. Can you tell me how to root properly the Z1 (kitkat 4.4.4) WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader (I don't want to loose the warranty)?
I did not say to unlock the bootloader I said to root, that's different.
I suggest that if your system is not mountable as read/write then you do not have full root.
To root fully follow the link in my signature.

you were right, I've redone the whole root process again, and finally I have full root, SDFix works.
Very important: I had to turn off firewall and virus checking before the procedure (copmany laptop is not ideal for rooting ).

SD Card Write Fix
Just edit etc/permissions/platform.xml (using root explorer) as shown below...and reboot...
add line:
<group gid="media_rw" />
Now all apps will be able to write to external SD Card... This is a temporary manual fix until we have a working custom recovery)

It's a very simple fix but can't really be done without root. It's not the n4 it's kitkat itself on all phones as far as I'm aware
Root and then unroot
I've been reading that rooting the Note 4 has a negative effect on several built-in apps like SoftCard (a.k.a., ISIS). If I root the Note 4, make this change, and then un-root the Note 4, will this fix stick?
TIA,
Rich

If you manage to unroot the Note 4 without flashing the stock rom again then... Yes, it should stick...
In other words... You have to unroot the device and keep the rom in the current "modified" state... Because, remember that if you reflash stock rom in order to unroot... Then you are overwriting the system file that you already modified...
Got it. Thank you!
This worked great on my shiny new rooted note 4. Thank you.
