Hello,
So I am new to android and this whole rooting business.
My brother bought his HTC one from HK so it uses the HK variant files, and he recently gave me his phone. I wanted to update to 4.2.2 but it keeps failing.
My friend told me to unroot the phone, recover into stock and then update it but I have absolutely no idea how to do it.
The software number of this phone is 1.29.708.4, so I was wondering if someone could provide me steps on how to resolve this issues - and possibly where I can find this file.

Define ''keep failing'' ? What does it do exactly?

Assuming you know how to use adb and fastboot (if not the case, there is many guides on that here), post the output of ''fastboot getvar all'' except the IMEI and SERIALNO. Please also post a screenshot/pic of the bootloader screen.

[Q] Help with OTA Updates
Hi Everyone,
I recently reset my HTC One to back stock 4.1.2 using an RUU so that I could get OTA updates, but I can't get any updates. Whenever I search for updates I am told the phone is up to date and that there are no updates available, but it is on 4.1.2 so I can't update to 4.2.2, 4.3 or 4.4.2.
I'd be really grateful if you could help me sort this out. Thanks in advance for any help/assistance you give.
Here's some information which might help:

I'm sorry in advance, I can't help (I'm searching for some answers to my own questions) but what I came here to say is that you should edit your post and remove your IMEI number and even your serial# as well. These are specific to your device only and can be considered sensitive.

Check the updates thread in General. I don't think UK is released yet.
The problem is you have downgraded too far. You need to aflash the 1.28.401.7 RUU. What you have at the moment is the pre-release software installed, so no updates.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Correct. Please flash this RUU http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-exe/
Thanks so much

you need to unlock bootloader, and install a custom ROM,
get a new unlock token from HTCdev, and unlock bootloader. you won't be able to do anything with S-On and a relocked bootloader
PS: unless you can find a RUU.EXE for modelid: PN0711000 & cidnum: HTC__J15 which is 3.xx or higher

nope that ruu wont work as that's not your next update, don't worry about version main missing, that's normal, which recovery do you have installed ?
you need to push this to your phone http://www.htc1guru.com/2013/10/guru-reset-3-62-401-1-stock-rom/
then flash inside TWRP recovery, the same way you would with a custom rom, select wipe data, install stock radio and install stock recovery during the aroma installer, once done, reboot your phone.
If you want s-off, now is the time to do it, before updates, use rumrunner to gain s-off, if you don't want s-off then just accept any OTA's.

your s-off you can basically flash any RUU you want with a little editing of the android_info.txt
the decrypted RUU Zip's here can all be edited to match your phone. http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-zip-downloads/
your software is already at 5.x so be careful going too far back words

Here is another route; you can use this TWRP nandroid 4.20.980.1 backup and the stock firmware in the same post to get back to stock. Since you are returning it you probably don't have to update it to the latest version if you don't want to. But if you do, here is the OTA to your version 5.11.980.9.

You could but here is the 6.09.401.5 TWRP nandroid and the stock firmware. Flash the nandroid first, then flash the firmware. You will be completely stock, I would remove "Tampered" and set your bootloader back to "Locked" prior to running the firmware. You can use the Guru Bootloader Reset Tool to accomplish both items in TWRP.

Thanks heaps for that, I've already removed tampered but haven't locked the bootloader yet so I'll get onto that now but I'm in some way hoping I can upgrade to an m8 refurbished instead of a refurbished m7 when I take it back to avoid having purple camera or another mic issue but worth a shot asking even if I did have to pay a small fee to upgrade but thanks again

here's the only file's I could locate for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244106&page=95
Instructions for returning to stock are here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
Hi,
so, i've been kind of screwing my m7 up lately and managed to get to an older system update (sorry, must have been 4.2.2 but i'm not sure) by using GuruReset. Now, i just stayed with it, until today, i had this weird need to update my phone. So i did the Official update by Vodafone giving me Sense 5.5, everything installed, but now im in a bootloop.
This is what my recovery mode says.
Tampered
Unlocked
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.57.0000
RADIO-4A.17.3250.14
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
I could easily flash gurureset again right now and go back to said old firmware, but is there any way of going to lollipop right now?
What may be important is that my M7 is Vodafone Germany.
