Download the entire SBF for your carrier/version here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
Unzip it. You will need to have the android SDK and "mfastboot" binary. Place recovery.img in the same folder as mfastboot, then:
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now you should have stock recovery back.
Good Luck

I gave you the exact instructions in POST # 2:
"Download the entire SBF for your carrier/version here:

You will extract the zip file (the one I linked for ASIA RETAIL), but you only need the one file: recovery.img

Moto sure made havok with our recoveries, they could have made them with all the same md5 but they are unique. I bet any one would function but not for the reason we need to use each original one for.

See... I had unlocked bootloader n installed twrp...I wanted to return back to stock recovery so I Googled it n got a link for stock recovery. But when I flashed it n tried to boot into recovery.. It did not happen... can u suggest what should I do??

here to find your match firmware and download it http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
unzip it, and you can find a file named "recovery.img", and copy it to your sdk folder. if you don't have this tool. you can from this website and install it: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html . copy the "recovery.img" to "D:\adt\sdk\platform-tools" folder.
after that, connect your phone, and reboot to fastboot, open ":\adt\sdk\platform-tools" in your pc, hold "shift" and click right key of mouse, then shoose "open command window here". then input "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", and you can get your recovery back to your stock recovery.
after that, you can follow this: http://androidfannetwork.com/2014/02/05/get-the-t-mobile-moto-x-android-4-4-2-kitkat-ota-here-now/
hope you can get what you want, and apologize for my poor english, hope you can understand my answer.

Thank you very much. Did as you describe (just before reading it, i found out you can't flash an img file through twrp, so googled and found had to do it from PC via the fastboot command ... did that, but when i now try to reboot into recovery i get the green droid and a red exclamation mark ... Haven't found out how to solve that. Right after initiating the command, the first output is "variable not supported!", but the phone did flash. I did try a second time, but get the same result. So i now can't get into a recovery and can't flash Android 4.2.2. Any suggestions ?

Found it: while seeing the droid and red exclamation, i can press "Volume Down and Power" and get a menu, am flashing the 4.2.2. while i type this. Thanks!
Mine is press the up and power button. Do you success to flash 4.2.2? I heard that it can't flash down to the previouse system, may cause some trouble?

if you are not 100% sure you want 4.4.2 i would not flash it because you can not flash back to 4.4.

Stock 1053 4.4.4 rom

I am asking if anyone has a flashable zip of the 4.4.4 rom, I cant seem to update or sideload it even with a stock recovery, factory resets, dont work and fastboot flashing doesnt work either,
So if anyone has a flashable zip I can use with the twrp that would be greatly appreciated
Why not flash the img files manually?
I haven't seen the SBF of 4.4.4 for the XT1053 posted anywhere yet. Not even on Moto's site for the Developer Edition recovery images.

[Q] Installing OTA lollipop after unlocking bootloader?

Hi, I have a Moto G 2nd Gen XT1064 running 4.4.4 KK (21.11.23). I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP. I'm really confused about how I go about getting the 5.0.2 OTA update my phone says is available. I tried downloading it 3 times and after I clicked to install it the phone powers off and then puts me in a bootloop while still on KK. I wonder why that is? So then I install the backup I made in TWRP and it gets me out of the bootloop.
Anyway, is it still possible to use the phones built-in OTA update service somehow or do I need to flash an OTA update using recovery? I read through maybe a dozen threads here but I couldn't figure it out(and I always thought I was a tech savvy guy ) If anybody can help me in any way I'd be extremely grateful!
TWRP is the problem, not the unlocked bootloader. You need to use stock recovery to install an OTA, not a custom recovery
Download your firmware version, extract the recovery.img and install using fastboot

The same way you flashed TWRP.
Extract the .zip and put the recovery.img wherever you need it to do this:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thank you so much ThisIsJason, I flashed the recovery.img for my firmware I downloaded off motofirmware.com then I let my phone download the OTA and when I clicked to install this time it worked. Thank you so much cuz I was really frustrated and I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what I needed to do so your suggestion is very much appreciated.
Tharmor, this is what I did:
I checked my phone to see what firmware I had, look in the settings menu, then in "about phone" and I think it'll list your firmware there. Then go to the website ThisIsJason mentioned, and download your phones firmware (mine was 21.85.23 for the XT1064 model). Then what I did was I unzipped the recovery.img file into my fastboot folder, then I put my phone in recovery mode and plugged in the usb cable and started the fastboot program. Then I copy and pasted
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
into the program, hit Enter and it flashed the recovery.img to my phone. Then I unplugged the usb and booted the phone back up normally, I went into settings menu, then "about phone" and then I think at the top of the next menu clicked an option about software updates. So I let the phone download the update and then clicked to install it and viola, it worked a charm.

Thanks, but I think that I already looked through the zip file and I don't see a recovery.img file included in it. I'm only looking at the zip files because I can't use the kdz files. Am I looking for the wrong thing? In the end, I want a stock recovery image installed.
I'm sorry, I misunderstood. So you are looking to flash the recovery partition only back to stock, and not the rest of the partitions?
