Hi, I have a Moto G 2nd Gen XT1064 running 4.4.4 KK (21.11.23). I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP. I'm really confused about how I go about getting the 5.0.2 OTA update my phone says is available. I tried downloading it 3 times and after I clicked to install it the phone powers off and then puts me in a bootloop while still on KK. I wonder why that is? So then I install the backup I made in TWRP and it gets me out of the bootloop.
Anyway, is it still possible to use the phones built-in OTA update service somehow or do I need to flash an OTA update using recovery? I read through maybe a dozen threads here but I couldn't figure it out(and I always thought I was a tech savvy guy ) If anybody can help me in any way I'd be extremely grateful!
TWRP is the problem, not the unlocked bootloader. You need to use stock recovery to install an OTA, not a custom recovery
Download your firmware version, extract the recovery.img and install using fastboot

The same way you flashed TWRP.
Extract the .zip and put the recovery.img wherever you need it to do this:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thank you so much ThisIsJason, I flashed the recovery.img for my firmware I downloaded off motofirmware.com then I let my phone download the OTA and when I clicked to install this time it worked. Thank you so much cuz I was really frustrated and I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what I needed to do so your suggestion is very much appreciated.
Tharmor, this is what I did:
I checked my phone to see what firmware I had, look in the settings menu, then in "about phone" and I think it'll list your firmware there. Then go to the website ThisIsJason mentioned, and download your phones firmware (mine was 21.85.23 for the XT1064 model). Then what I did was I unzipped the recovery.img file into my fastboot folder, then I put my phone in recovery mode and plugged in the usb cable and started the fastboot program. Then I copy and pasted
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
into the program, hit Enter and it flashed the recovery.img to my phone. Then I unplugged the usb and booted the phone back up normally, I went into settings menu, then "about phone" and then I think at the top of the next menu clicked an option about software updates. So I let the phone download the update and then clicked to install it and viola, it worked a charm.

Hey guys, I just got the 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 update notification on my XT1058 (Movistar, Chile). The thing is, I have TWRP so I know I can't take it right now. The device is not rooted nor it has xposed installed. My question is, how do I safely go back to stock recovery? Thanks in advance
Extract the recovery.img from your carriers 4.4.3 sbf and flash just the recovery image via fastboot. Commands should look like this.

There's only 4.4.2 available on the sbf list to download. Is it ok or should I take another step?

No I haven't, as I can't download it via mobile network. I downloaded the 4.4.2 stock firmware, took the recovery file from the zip and did fastboot recovery recovery.img. After booting and realizing I couldn't turn on the wifi (slides immediately to off) I did a factory reset but it didn't solve it

Unsuccesful, sadly. Will try to restore a previous backup made with twrp
OTA 4.4
Do you have to go back to stock recovery if you're using TWRP recovery? Or is there a way to apply the update while using TWRP? I downloaded the update, told it to install and it rebooted to TWRP. The only zip I found was the old update under cache. Is there a way to do this or where do I find the newly downloaded file to install?
When I couldn't find the file I just rebooted. After booting up the phone attempted to reboot and install about 3 or 4 times before saying unsuccessful and operating normally.

Yup, although safestrap recovery (for locked bootloaders) is based on TWRP, it isn't the same. So at least he will be able to root again afterwards. Being unlocked doesn't affect the ability to take an OTA though. I've seen some people confused about that and tell people that they need to re-lock before taking an OTA. This is NOT the case. Stock recovery is required though.
Don't want to confuse anybody though. Just ignore the above. All that really matters is you must have stock recovery and no significant modifications to /system (no Xposed, etc.).
I'm on 4.4.2 for Sprint, i got the update to install 4.4.4, after reading this thread and the guide to flash OTA i see I have to return to stock recovery. My question is in the guide it says '' if you have at any point of time flashed any 4.4.2 firmware along with the boot loader 30.B3 or 30.B4
DO NOT FLASH THE OTA, YOU WILL HAVE A HARD BRICKED MOTO''...... my bootloader says 30.B4 , so should i take the OTA?

Hmm I'm thinking that what you read might have been for another variant....I'm not familiar with the bootloader version.
Regardless, if you are concerned, you are completely safe to flash the ENTIRE stock 4.4.2 SBF, then you can SAFELY take the 4.4.4 OTA with no risk. And if you take the OTA immediately after flashing the entire SBF, you'll already have stock recovery and you can just flash TWRP and re-root AFTER you are on 4.4.4.
:good:
(The above instructions ONLY apply to the Sprint variant. Not any of the variants that received 4.4.3.)

System.img is too big for the standard Fastboot.exe included in the Android SDK/PlatformTools. You must use the Moto tweaked fastboot (aka mfastboot) -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/X-STUFF/mfastboot-442.zip
I was on Android 5.0 lollipop when something glitched and my phone wouldn't get out of bootloader mode, so i flash stock android. When it then finished and went back to 4.4.4 i tried flashed the factory images again to lock the bootloader, but it wouldn't let me because it kept saying "downgrading" or something along those lines. Now my phones sysetem version is 21.11.17.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.Us which is the one of 5.0 when im clearly on 4.4.4. I am currently rooted with a custom recovery, any ideas on how i could possibly get back to android L?

the A method doesn't work, ive tired it before. It doesn't let me relock the bootloader because it thinks im downgraded the system. I think ill try the B method. In order to instal the custom rom would i have to use a custom recovery? how would i go about doing it (P.S. XT1064 rooted with TWRP)

currently I BELIEVE if you have flashed MOTOBOOT.img (bootloader) from a 5.0 version you can not go back to a 4.4.4 version, but you can still run a 4.4.4 rom on a 5.0 bootloader. a locked / unlocked bootloader should not stop OTA updates. Having the wrong recovery will stop OTA installing. and mismatched bootloader / recoveries MAY cause problems.
to flash titan prime rom use TWRP (make backup 1st) place zipped tp-rom on sdcard and gapps.zip and following instruction in the rom thread
So, A method (blur versions) will always fail if you have TWRP installed, you need stock recovery that matches your rom on phone now , the 1st from moto firmware should work via mfastboot method.

Again, this is stock Razr I EU OTA from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2
This should be very handy for the ones who still haven't received the OTA so you can flash it manually.
Please note that the GPT gets flashed, so a downgrade to 4.1.2 can be tricky after taking this update.

The stock recovery can be extracted from a RSD-Lite package. Than reboot in fastboot and use the command "fastboot flash recovery <recovery>". Now u will have the stock recovery instead of CWM.
Do know that going from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 with the OTA update requires no modification to the system partition, except from adding files. Modifying files or deleting files from the system partition will make the update fail. So if u only have root installed through recovery then there is a hugh change everything works. But if u deleted some bloatdware, then it most likely will fail.

Can I apply this OTA update over a standard 4.1.2?. I am using 4.1.2 from Personal Argentina , recovery is stock, but only I have root. I know that is not update to 4.4.2 of my versiĆ³n so I should go to retail BR or EU but if I flash via RSD I will lost all my settings.
So if I update using this OTA (or BR OTA) to go to 4.4.2 from other 4.1.2, can be a problem?

If you are in fastboot mode, the recovery's should flash just fine If u have an unlocked bootloader. Should not be more than 5-10 seconds to finish. If something goes wrong it will say it on screen and even in the terminal on your PC.

If you are in fastboot mode, the recovery's should flash just fine If u have an unlocked bootloader. Should not be more than 5-10 seconds to finish. If something goes wrong it will say it on screen and even in the terminal on your PC.

Hello all,
I've rooted my P8Lite L21 using the custom recovery method, flashed the supersu.zip, then restored the original recovery.
Yesterday I had an OTA and now phone reboot once during system boot, and at the second time it hangs during boot.
What can I do to recover this? I have stock recovery, and when I try to VOLDOWN+POWER it never goes to fastboot. (last time I had to use adb reboot-bootloader but now I can't reach system\adb..)
Can you help?
Thanks, cheers,
pHk

Hello,
You can boot to fastboot with this method:
Connect phone with PC then power off
Now push two buttons VOLDOWN+POWER+MicroUSB now you can install any stock ROM with fastboot commands and suitable *.img(boot.img, cust.img, system.img)
P.S
What OTA(number) arrive to you?

I'll try flashing TWRP from here and then i don't know which rom to use.. I'd like CM12 but i'm not sure its supported.
Can you suggest any stable ROM ?
Thanks

It's Portuguese\Europe, Single SIM.
I'm downloading "Huawei P8 Lite ALE-L21 V100R001C432B171 (Europe)". Is this flashable from fastboot? Yes, i'm unlocked. Does it need the hiSuite or fastboot.exe will suffice?
Thanks Sokkoban, you're being of great help and I'm thanking all your posts

Yes, I know this is single SIM. But, why do you say that I need to downgrade to B052 and then OTA? Can't i flash the B170 directly?
The other question i had is, how to flash this. Hisuite or fastboot.exe?
Thanks

Because after downgrade you can install any firmware via OTA! (ROM B052 is from the box!)
I write guide how to unbrick ALE-L21 use google translator, download ROM and run file FLASH-ALL.bat http://huaweip8lite.blogspot.bg/2016/01/tutorialhow-to-unbrick-huawei-p8-lite.html

If you don't see any problem, I will try to flash B170 directly, since my bootloader is already unlocked. What do you think?
About the link you sent, the site appears in English, but then it changes to russian? I cannot get it back to EN.
Thanks

OK
Try this. Use Huawei update extractor in forum xda have link to it. Open the UPDATE.APP and extract the following files: Recovery.img, Boot.img, Cust.img, System.img
Then use fastboot commands to flash B171 ROM
I wish you success!

Hi there,
I have a similar problem: bootloop!
I'm comming from B170 and installed 7 HD 1.2 ROM and got some errors, I thougt it would be an good to go the long way to B008 or better B010. After so searching I found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64483642&postcount=43
- did not step 1 an under-pressed flashing recovery in step 2 and 3, thought I could yet use TWRP.
Obviously, that was the mistake.
At step 4 I recognized that I have to do step 1 to go on.
that worked an I copied the update.zip to internal card, initialised the update.
Not sure it got to 100% but think so.
Result bootloop, can't get to recovery, only fastboot
Tried to flash every thing: B052, B170, and 136a, even the boot.img and recovery.img of B010 and B008
no errors but still bootloop.
PLEASE HELP!!
is there a full version of B080 somewhere to flash by fastboot? or any options to flash the update.zip of B080 again?
All other proposals are welcome!

First 7 HD 1.2 ROM work only over the B010!!!
Second in this archive have the instructions to install Beta B008 why you not did everything described in the instructions?
Third when install stock firmware RECOVERY must be original not TWRP!!!
Now you must install stok recovery, make hard reset then install B052
After that you can install every stock firmware for your region! or follow the instruction to install B008=>B010=>7 HD 1.2 ROM
Regards

fastboot
Hm, this is very strange!
What device do you have? and which region use?
adb reboot recovery --- says: error: device '(null)' not found
if I try with serialnumber
adb -s W3D7XXXXXXXX reboot recovery ---- says error: device 'W3D7XXXXXXXX' not found
but ---- fastboot devices ----says at the same time: W3D7XXXXXXXX

So B170 worked in the first place
