[Q] TF701T is not charging via dock - Asus Transformer TF701

Hello!
I have a strange issue with my new tablet. Dock is not charging my tablet even the tablet's battery is under 70%. For example, right now I have 57% of the tablet's battery (Not charging) ant 98% of the battery of the dock. The power led on the tablet is orange, but on the battery section of the settings it's said it's not charging.
If I plug a charger on, the tablet's battery starts charging (orange led and screen indication), the dock's battery is green.
The version of the firmware is V10.26.1.28.
Is it a software of a hardware issue? Do I need to bring it to a service?
Thank you.

Have you tried undocking re-docking?
sounds software related. I didn`t notice that on mine waiting for it to come back from it`s 5th trip to asus (who knows they might replace it...).
If a full reboot and undock redock does not resolve the issue i would suggest sending it away. you could also try factory reset of course.
btw i know you say it`s new (but how new) did you have this tab before that version of firmware?? if so was it happening then?

Thanks for the reply!
Sure I have tried undocking re-docking many times, but nothing changed. I've also tried to reboot and factory reset with no use.
I did a firmware update to V10.26.1.28 at the first boot of the tablet, so I don't know if the issue was present at the previous version of the firmware. If I should check it, I don't know how to roll back.

Quite a few docks with a 2013 build date had that charging problem. Check the manufacturing date of the dock on it's box. If it is 11/2013 or earlier, I would send it back for replacement. People did get 2014 docks. Don't settle for less.

[SOLVED] Phone Stops Charging Randomly. Solution?

I noticed this as of yesterday. My Nexus One is plugged in to the wall charger right now, but it randomly stops charging. The light at the top disappears and the phone shows that it is not charging. Give it a few seconds, and it starts charging again. Sometimes it will charge for 30 minutes without a problem, other times it starts and stops every few minutes. I've tried messing with the cable, but it doesn't affect whether or not it charges. I plan on switching batteries with my brother to see if that has a change. I'll also try a different cable soon. I've already rebooted the device, no change. If you go to the battery usage chart, it shows huge gaps in the green charging area..
Rooted, running geo411m stock rom, Android 2.3.3, stock kernel, stock HBOOT.
Any ideas? I hope the charging circuitry isn't failing. Took like 5 hours to charge, now the phone is at 95% battery.
I would try to wipe the battery stats from recovery see if that makes any difference then maybe try full wipe 1 to 5 times and maybe a clean install or even just change ROMs and check if it's the same.
alright I'll give those a try. I just don't know what could have caused it to happen. been on this rom for months, no change in setup. just randomly started. seems like a software issue to me (hopefully not hardware). even right now as I'm using it, it's plugged in but not charging.. 81%, no charge light.

Your charger or cable are most likely the culprit. When the charger doesn't provide enough current - the phone stops charging, and sometimes chargers fail.

It was the charger! My brother has an official HTC one he bought off eBay (looks like this), whereas I have the one that came with the N1. His charged my phone fine. My charger was still screwing up with his phone. I'm just going to buy the HTC one now. Thanks for you suggestion!

Call HTC, even if you're out of warranty. They have been exceptional in providing replacements for broken accessories. I had somehow cracked the lens in the battery door, and when I called to ask where I can buy a new back cover they simply asked for my address and told me I could expect one the next day. Worst thing that could happen is they say "no".
I was searching an answer but found myself. The issue is something happen to system because of unstable voltage then keeps turning off charging.
I've added agni control kernel and activated ignore unstable charging power and voila!
I know this is an old thread but can you tell me - if you can remember (!) - how did you acticate "ignore unstable charging power"? I have the AGNI kernel for my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 but no idea where the settings are! I've heard of an app but where it is I don't know.

Xperia T won't charge when switched off

I have Xperia T on official 7.0.A.3.195 firmware.
It is not rooted and boot loader is locked.
Problem is the phone won't charge when it is switched off and I guess that is not good because none of my previous Sony/Ericsson phones behaved like that.
I have read somewhere that this behavior is specific for some versions of CWM, but obviously that is not the issue with my phone.
Also I have found that problem could be related with chargemod file in phone/system/bin, which should be changed, so if someone can send me that file I can try to solve it that way.
Anyone else with xperia T experiencing this issue?
Any other idea how it can be solved (I have already tried factory reset)?
Thanks.

If you have not tampered with the phone I would be unhappy with it and take it back to the shop for a replacement.
Or you could repair in pccompanion.
Mine wouldn't charge properly when it was on and I just got it tonight and then when it was off charging was on and off like it was getting unplugged and plugged in again I pressed the power button and now I think it's charging but it didn't turn on I hadn't brotherd to press the power button again just yet

Charging on and off loop happened to me as well at first, then I unplugged and plugged the charger again, but nothing was happening.
After I switched the phone on it started to charge. Now it charges normally when phone is on, but still noting when phone is switched off.
I have also tried firmware repair in PCC and it didn't help, so I think I will return it to the shop and ask for replacement.

I had exactly the same problem. I got mine on 3rd Oct, and after about 7 days of use, I discharged the battery to 0% and it automatically turned off. Since then it refused to charge when power off, and as I have 0% battery, it cannot be turned on, making the phone totally unusable!
I finally managed to get it work again, here's the steps if you also find your phone dead.
When 0% battery and auto power off, if you press the power button, the LED light should flash quickly a few times and off.
Now press and hold the power button and when LED is still flashing, plug in the charger (use wall charger not USB on PC). You should remain holding the power button, otherwise the LED will turn off and no charging again.
After about 5 min, it will be charged to a minimum amount required to boot and the screen will be turned on. Now press the volume up key while still holding power button to reset the phone.
I saved my phone just like this, but even now it still cannot charge when power off. Searched this forum and some say it can be fixed by changing the chargemon file? It would be much appreciated if someone can share it.
Thread moved. Please ensure you post in the correct sections in future as all questions belong here in Q&A.
Thanks

Just to inform you that in the end I have sent my phone to the service center and thay had to open it, remove battery and connect it again.
After that it was possible to charge the phone when switched off. I got it back now and it still works OK. Hopefully it will stay like that.
Shame on you SONY

I bought my XPERIA TX today, I have the same problem.the most issue is when your phone is off then it will not charge at all and LED charging will not work.
You have to switch on the phone and then it starts charging.
This is a big fault of SONY and now I understood why SONY is loosing reputation in mobile market.
I have the latest firmware of 7.0.A.3.220
Like 2 weeks ago my xperia t wouldnt charge too. Fix it then like they said here with a hard reset, volume up and reset. But yesterday i had the problem back. The charger was like on and off cause my notification was busy saying "unplug from socket to save energy". I unplugged the charger from my phone and like 3 seconds later it was BOOM, with a nice flash and my charger died taking out a fuse too. Luckely i just took out the charger, dont wanna know what could have happened if my phone was still on the charger when it short-circuited.
So if you have the same problems.. watch out!

How to open the TL?
I have been looking for a way to open my TL can have you any clue as how to so that? I need to remover the battery like you said to get the phone to start charging again.
Get It Replaced!
If your phone is doing this either call Sony +1-877-7XPERIA (1-877-797-3742) and explain what is going on. You're going to need the info from the pull-out tab found in the SIM/SD bay. It will take a few weeks and some Shipping money. OR your provider will probably replace it for free if you can get it to fail infront of them. (PROTIP: Let it die while using it and do not plug it in for a while)
Your phone will very likely get worse until it fails completely. My experience is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43383759#post43383759
Your phone SHOULD charge like every-other phone. If it is acting funny get it replaced ASAP
I keep coming back to these threads whenever my Experia T is acting up again. I finally bit the bullet and went the hardware way as described in other posts in this thread and also in a comment on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWox7kCygRE
"In the end I fixed this problem by removing the back cover (one screw in where the SIM card goes) and detaching the battery supply from the phone. After a minute or two I reattached the battery supply (its a little yellow tab beside where you plug in the charger) and put the cover back on, plugged into charger and it started charging as normal."
It's surprisingly simple, to be honest.
Did you manage to modify the chargecom file to enable charging while in sleep?
Cheers

[Q] charged, empty, charged, at nausem: can't run on battery anymore

My GT-N7000 yesterday developed this issue:
When I boot it (no USB cable to power it), the battery shows empty (grep battery icon, with a charging circle).
A second or so later, it switches to show a half-full battery, with charging dots below. and it vibrates for about a second.
Again, another second ro so later it goes back to showing an empty battery and the cycle continues.
If I attach a UCB charging cable, it boots fine, shows the battery as 100%
If I remove the charging cable, it loses power. When switched on again, this all starts over.
I saw this on ICS (4.0.4, stock, German) and there i also had the battery icon in normal more switching between
charging and blinking to not charging. I found a recommendation that upgrading might help, so I
did apply the JB update I had downloaded a few days ago, but this does happen
under JB too (OTA German 4.0.4, then flashed with Phil's-stock plus cwn6)
Is there anything can can be done? Is this a hardware issue or something that some form of total reset might cure?
As it is, I cannot use the phone w/o having it externally powered through my powerbank or car charger.
This happens with two batteries, so it's not the battery that is broken
I really think this one is battery problem as I have experienced the same thing..
are the batteries you tested New?
just my 2 cents.

No, I've had both a fow a while.
I may buy a third just to test but I fear I may have to get a replacement phone soon , sniff
Though I would suggest that you get a new set of batteries...they solved the problem for me.
While you are at it, please search the forum for another solution that worked for me- "cleaning the micro-usb slot"...its an easy process but needs to be done a little carefully.
either of the two would definitely work for you...speaking from experience!

Bro..i had the same problem..this morning, when the phone showed 100% in charged mode..as soon as i unplugged the charger..the charging %age goes down to 15% immedietly.. i went and bought a new charging port(only that usb charging port = very small),removed the old usb port and soldered the new usb port to the note..This works like charm..but this probably void the warranty ..so,if u want..its upto u..i wont recommend it but it works like charm for me

Keyboard dock acting up

Hey, this morning I had the weirdest problem with my dock, despite rarely getting any disconnects as bad as other people have.
I am running the latest firmware from December on the tablet and the dock, but I suddenly got a message from ASUS Update Service that a MobileDock firmware update is available. I decided to go ahead and click OK but it simply did nothing. It gave me an error after some loading time and the dock kept on working but the message doesn't disappear.
Also, despite charging my dock last night it is now at 6% on its indicator and it doesn't appear to be moving. Is it FUBAR? Should I just go to a service shop working with ASUS with my warranty? (I'm from Eastern Europe so no retailer shipping back, lol)
After a full discharge and charge of the dock the problem still persists. After plugging it in it went green light pretty fast but showed that it was only charged up to 70%. On the next day after barely any use, the dock showed 30% and after letting it discharge some more it still gets stuck at 6%. Also, it appears to be charging the tablet with less power.
I'm kinda ceratin that it is a software issue. Is it possible to somehow "reset" the dock's software? Reset the tablet? I really don't want to wipe it full, because I CBA to restore everything on it, but if I give it to the shop it will take a full month or 2 before they decide to give it back. Any idea on how I might go about "resetting" a dock?
Edit: Just to clarify, I stopped getting the update message from Asus to update the MobileDock firmware. I though that might be the culprit (attempted and failed "update") but the dock was at 6% even before attempting the update...
FINAL EDIT: I fixed it by doing a factory reset. God knows what went wrong with the battery sensor software. ASUS should seriously do something about their software.

Sorry for the thread necro and the constant self-communication but the dock is doing the same thing again. No amount of coldbooting while docked is helping. Any help besides the good ol' wipe data? I can do it, of course, but it's getting kind of old. Isn't there a software fix to "reset" the dock's firmware or something?

I don't know what to suggest..... Maybe use the Asus backup program so it is not too hard to restore your app data. Sounds like it needs another factory reset but I have no idea why it is happening.....

Same problem here; RMA'd it, they sent it back doing the EXACT SAME THING, won't even charge on the charger disconnected from the tablet; factory data reset won't fix it.
RMA'ing it again, this time at their expense for shipping; and it's being "investgated for unrepairable"

Hi there,
Same problem here as Hitmancho and Zaelin: Cannot charge the TF701 through the dock and dock appears to be draining the tablet. In the beginning it worked fine - after doing a full wipe and installing CROMi-X 6.1- but then suddenly it started this erratic behavior. However I think it is a hardware problem since I actually hear the keyboard clicking when the charger is on AND the tablet is in its slot. Next to that the keyboard gets exceptionally hot just next to the slot connector which connects the keyboard and the tablet.
Does any of you experience the same problem ? And - if possible - how did you fix it ?

Does the tablet charge when the power is plugged into the docked tablet (i.e. power in the dock slot)? I didn't quite understand what you meant by not being able to charge the tablet through the dock.
My dock heats up when in use (or charging) as well, but on the bottom. It's mildly hot if that description works
But if the clicking is loud when you've plugged both dock and tablet in the power then you might have a serious issue. I assume you aren't touching anything while it is clicking. If so, you should contact ASUS support. Clicking out of nowhere sounds scary...

Hi Hitmancho,
No the tablet is not charged any longer when connected to the keyboard. And when I connect the charger to the keyboard nothing happens, i.e. the tablet is still normally drained (or at a slightly higher rate) and the keyboard stays at 6% even though it is fully charged. However if you are in a silent environment you can hear a distinctive clicking at the spot where the keyboard connector for the tablet is located.
And just before this problem occured last week the keyboard was exceptionally hot at that same spot.
I am not afraid though that I will be electocuted or that the keyboard will explode - I am an electrical engineer by training - but I took - of course - the precaution not to connect the charger to the keyboard anymore. I now charge the tablet directly which is a nuisance but has to be done every 2 hours or so.
What I think is the problem is that the charger circuit in the keyboard is faulty and generates a short circuit every second or so and that this is causing the heating and causing the tablet to think it is dealing with a wrong version of keyboard software and wants to update it.

If it is still under warranty, send it in. Asus fixed mine - well at leat the loose hinge and charging/firmware update problem. Still disconnects from the dock SD when moving the screen, but I can live with that...
JOTX10, I meant to ask if the clicking is there WITHOUT any physical contact with the tablet
But yeah, I doubt it's going to be able to explode or anything drastic like that. As berndblb said - if you are under warranty give it back for repair/replacement. Sounds damaged to me.

Hi Berndblb,
I RMA-ed the keyboard - I am still under warranty - and hopefully my assessment that it is just the keyboard is correct since I just RMA-ed the keyboard not the tablet since then I would be in big trouble without it. Did you send in the keyboard+tablet or just the keyboard as well ?

OnePlus 3T stuck on 50% battery

Hi
I have a OnePlus 3T stuck on 50% battery it doesn't go up or down, I tried letting the battery drain and then restarting, but it still displays 50% even after factory reset.
Is this a problem that can be resolved? I am not sure what else to try, I tried battery re-calibration apps and charging the phone a few times etc. but it did not work.
Hope you can help.
Thanks
Infinite Battery life? COOL!
Or did you mean the Indicator is stuck on 50% even when the Battery itself runs out and dies? If that, i can see it being an issue. We should start with the basics. What ROM? Bootloader state? Recovery? Kernel? Firmware? Mods? Length of time since last clean install. etc.
A Factory Reset seems like a good first step for now.
Haha, yes the indicator is stuck on 50%.
If I let it run out then recharge fully as they say to do to recalibrate, then even doing this overnight, it is still (apparently) charging in the morning - so I turn it on and it is still the same thing stuck on 50% and not recalibrated (if calibration is indeed the problem).
I moved to Lineage OS 15.1 (OFFICIAL) using latest TWRP recovery. Bootloader is unlocked.
It is now back on stock (latest build downloaded from oneplus) after full wipe of data/cache/dalvik, with stock recovery (bootloader still unlocked). The problem remains.
So as you can see a factory reset did not work I am afraid.

When it's been on charge long enough that it should have fully charged, it's still showing 50%, right? If you use it long enough to discharge completely, are you getting half the Battery life? (This is the difference between the indicator being faulty and the Battery being faulty).
If the indicator is correct and the Battery is refusing to charge beyond 50%, that's your Battery about to die. Send it to Oneplus for a replacement.
Thanks, yes if I leave it on overnight or otherwise more than enough for a full charge, it shows 50%. It is difficult for me to say if it lasts a full charge as I only just purchased the phone, so I have nothing to compare to.
However, the indicator does not slowly increase to 50%. I can fully discharge the phone until it turns off, and whilst doing so the indicator stays at 50%. I then go to charge the phone whilst turned off, and it doesn't matter how long I charge it for, almost always I turn it on and it is stuck at 50% (very rarely it looks like it's working, it starts lower and the level even seems to increase a few percentage points, going to say 15%, then it stops and I wait a while until it is clear it is not going to change, and eventually restart the phone, turn it back on and it's the same old deal, stuck at 50% no matter what).
I am not sure if this is very helpful, it's difficult to describe, I guess the bottom line is, no matter how long or little I charge it, almost always I turn it on and it is stuck at 50%, which made me think it was some sort of indicator problem, but I am not sure. I guess I should try and send it back as there's clearly a problem and I have tried reasonable steps to resolve.
Probably battery is fried
Damn, that's a shame, if that's the case I guess I should send it back then (although I can see the seller disputing it, I've barely used the device and it doesn't seem to be resolvable so I don't have a choice really).
I suppose I will rebuy OnePlus 3T unless there is an alternative, wasn't happy with recording quality which is a shame as I like to record guitar/singing, but everything else seemed great - I guess a new Xiaomi is another option as no trouble with battery, but I hear recording quality not so good.

I'm sure the seller was perfectly aware of this defect when they sold it. If the phone is in good condition otherwise, and if you got a good deal on it, you might consider getting Oneplus to service it. It's a gamble but it's still a great phone and a new Battery would give you at least two more good years with it. I'm sure we'll still be getting custom ROM support that long too.
Any other 3T you buy used now could face a similar issue any time soon and then you'd be in the same boat.
If it still has a warranty, then it's easily solved through official service.
If not, then if u bought it from a private seller, than good luck with convincing him about the problem

You need to have it serviced. I had that issue shortly after I purchased my 3T. I had tried all sorts of apps to see if it was charging and they all said it was, just not dash charging. Everything showed 50%, every app, any ROM, recovery, everything. Also, if I remember right, the battery wasn't exactly charging while plugged up, it just wasn't drawing juice from the battery. I know they replaced the motherboard but I can't tell you how much that would cost as it was under warranty.
if you are on OOS try *#808* check battery charging .if you get -40C its a problem with the motherboard

You mean *#808#

I had this issue just recently. See if the message "battery temperature is too low" appears when you try to charge when the phone is off. If yes you either have a broke battery or motherboard.
I had to get a replacement motherboard and battery to get my issue fixed.

For oxy? On custom roms used holy kernel
There are 3 possible solutions for this issue.
1: replace battery.
2: change the ROM for one that changes the Kernel for a version without this temperature protection.
3: fix or replace the main board.
To fix the main board you need to check 2 things on it.
On the left side of the battery connector (under a double sided glue tape foam), there are some SMD. The lowest two are related with this problem. I fix my board resoldering the one on the right (nearest to the connector). Be aware that the SMD is small and when are desoldered, it gets sticked on the double sided glue tape foam. I took a picture of it, but i don't know how to insert here.
If someone is reading this thread today and wants to know the solution,
This problem occurs when battery wire is connected loosely to motherboard or that connector has gone bad.
It has nothing to do with ROMs, kernel etc non-sense.
It's true, had the same problem after switching the battery of my OnePlus3T.
After reopening the device and reattaching the cable by CAREFULLY using more pressure and using a bit duct tape to fixate everything, it worked just fine.
Charging now works as it's supposed to and I'm again able to see the actual charge level.
Thanks lockhrt999!
