Hi,
I am in serious problem with my xperia Z. One of my friend took the device for use. After his returning i have found that the wifi is not working and when i enter a sim card the device could not detect the sim card network (a red cross in the network bar) but its camera, audio, video is working as usually. After checking the settings i found that there is no IMEI number, its hust Blank! i contacted with the xperia customer care they said i would have to change my motherboard, which will cost nearly the phone's price!
Is there anyway i can put IMEI number in the device? I have the IMEI number in the box.

You can try with flashing new ROM via Flashtool, just find .ftf file that works for you (check your model and build number).

Ask your friend what he did with the phone...
Besides that do what was mentioned earlier: flash a stock .ftf file and see if it changes

Changing the motherboard he is idio*:silly:
Just flash FTF with flashtool
Dont forget to backup your data before you do!
The IMEI is stored in the TA partition. If that has somehow been corrupted, then the only fix is to replace the motherboard. Flashing an FTF will not help in that case.
Similar case here. Lots of solutions tried, but the motherboard ended up being replaced.

It's very very unlikely that you'll brick your phone with Flashtool. I've never seen anyone say it's happened.
It uses the same method as the official Sony tools to flash firmware to your device, so it's safe.

Could any of you please help me with which flashtool i need to to install?
1. i have tried following the procedure mentioned in sonymobile/developer site. i have installed this flshtool given there. when i connected my device it said "Locked bootloader".
2. then i have unlocked the bootloader following sonymobile\unlockbootloader. then i connected the device again
3. now it says "No available services matched the connected device".
did i installed wrong flashtool? what should i do now?
You need the unofficial Flashtool.
www.flashtool.net
By unlocking your bootloader without making a backup of your TA partition, you invalidated your warranty and lost the unique DRM keys from your device forever. You should have asked here before doing that.

hi,
I bought a X8 by mail delivery from the internet and got a bricked phone (so it seems)!
Symptom is phone doesn't connect to GSM network, and although i can scan for networks i can't connect to them. Tried several networks, same result. Everything else seems to work fine.
I'm completely newbie to Android phones, and only bought this one to try to avoid to stay behind, but this was a lousy way to start. I've been browsing through the forum, but there's too much info which only makes it more confusing to me.
I tried connecting the phone to S1tool and msm7227setool but i can't find the SEMC flash drivers, and although i browsed through the forum stickies for them i didn't find them.
So, my questions are:
1- Can someone provide a link to the drivers?
2- Is the following link the best way to solve my problem?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304258&highlight=no+network
3- I also want to debrand the phone, from the 360 apps i assume the phone is from vodafone. Can you recommend a fast ROM with full features support? And a good noob proof flash tutorial..
4- Will any of the above operations remove my SP unlock?
Sorry if most (or all) of this questions are a repetition of past threads, but starting with a phone this way, i honestly feel like a donkey looking at a palace! (Portuguese proverb, not sure you'll understand)
Thanks, Regards!

sp unlock? You mean "SIM unlocked"?
No, you won't lose the unlocked SIM by simply flashing back to Stock through PC Companion (in case PCC tells you that there's no update available you need to resort to the Flashtool method).
As for the drivers ... best method would be to install PC Companion. However, if you don't want that crapware on your system I can upload you the drivers (out of PCC) in a ZIP - then you have to point Windows manually to the directory so it can find the appropriate driver (EDIT: shouldn't be much of a trouble if you're familiar with installing drivers by pointing Windows to the directory or the INF file).
The only situation where you might lose your SIM unlock is at unlocking the boot loader to enable installation of custom kernels, but before you head into that you better check the manufacturing date of your phone (sticker below the battery) and then look through this forum to work out if it's a candidate for hard bricking or not.

Errr... no. A "unsuccessful" boot loader unlock would turn your device into a hard brick (no lights, no vibration, no screen). As you're able to boot up into Android the bootloader and kernel seems to be intact.
IF the previous owner (in case you bought it used) tinkered around with boot loader unlocking ...
Use the s1tool to verify if the boot loader is locked or not. If it's unlocked simply follow the tutorial in the Development section to relock the boot loader or try the trick deedii posted about first (she had the same problem that GSM radio went dead after unlocking the boot loader).

I hit Repair in PCC and it re-flashed the phone. Now, instead of no network, the phone doesn't recognize ANY SIM card!!
I checked boot loader with S1tool, and the phone is locked (i see R).
I'm starting to think maybe it's a hardware problem and not from ROM.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, the "R" means the boot loader is locked.
As for the mSD card ... here's where we enter "trouble reloaded":
- What card? Class? Size? Brand?
- Does the card hold any important data? If not try to reformat the card (FAT32!!!). If Android refuses to format the mSD simply use a card reader and re-format the mSD in Windows.
EDIT: Also, just to make sure everything's vanilla: could you please take a look into Settings -> About phone to confirm you're running the genuine SE baseband/kernel and not some custom kernel?
EDIT 2: Errrrrrrrr.... never mind ... I somehow misread "SIM card" as "SD card". My fault!

Yes, that's definitely the genuine baseband and kernel.
However, no matter how hard I think it through I don't see a good reason why it won't accept ANY SIM card, as a SIM unlock (or carrier/operator unlock if you want to put it that way) is as good as permanent unless you play around with unlocking the bootloader and either do something wrong or face the problem that it suddenly reverts back to the original SIM lock (in case it got unlocked and didn't ship unlocked by default).
The only problem I know about is ... if you live in a region where you would actually need a E15a baseband but happen to have the E15i baseband (you know, has to do with the frequencies that get used to transmit between your phone and the tower) flashed - or the other way around - you won't be able to connect to the GSM/3G network - but even then the phone won't reject the SIM card but simply fail to find any network.
In that case the problem resolve would be as easy as swapping out the baseband through flashing by Flashtool.
Good morning,
This keeps getting more and more confusing... thank god you've been such a valuable help BJ!
Dunno if it's "don't accept SIM" as much as don't recognize them.. I usually remove PIN codes from all my SIM's but today i've popped a new one to see if anything different happened.. The phone asked me for pin and validated it, but after this it doesn't recognize it anymore, i get a SIM with a red "!" on top of it in the upper right corner of the screen (same icon you get without SIM in phone).
As for all the other cards, it doesn't appear such icon, the phone starts normally and then asks for language and after asks to "insert SIM and restart phone"..
I don't think baseband is the problem, i think it's definitely related to SIM card reading.
NOTE: Before seemed irrelevant but now seems important to say, before, when i scanned for networks and tried to connect to one (same from SIM), phone gave me a message saying something like "your SIM card doesn't allow connecting to this network".
The problem seems to be definitely SIM card reader, the big doubt is if it's HW or SW.
My best guess is SW, because he can read PIN's but then just locks.. Where is the SIM card reader "driver"? baseband, kernel, ROM? should i try to update all those?
Thanks again!
hello again,
i found this in SETool forum which seems to be exactly my problem.
E15i - (x8) it doesn't read sim card and hangs during unlocking
I've had a problem with XPERIA X8 (E15i) for a long time now and I can't fix it.
I was trying to unlock it. I updated Android to v. 2.1. I have credits, I turn on debugg mode, I installed drivers. I push 1,2,5 and press Unlock/Repair.
Unfortunately it didn't finish, the program froze and switched off (on Vista). It took 5 credits. After turning it back on it wouldn't log to the network, even though it saw the network. But it shows that the phone is unlocked. By Setool I installed the version form after the update. After that it stopped detecting the sim card.
In hosting I read that I should repeat the unlock. I reinstalled the drivers, downloaded setool's previous version (v1.1106), but the program hangs every time in the same place and it doesn't go to the end (see screen below). With v1.1107 there's the same problem. I tried on Vista and XP – no difference. I installed setool on my other computer, where there are no boxes, drivers or antiviruses and still I couldn't succeed.
Does anyone have some expirience with the x8?
Thx in advance for help.

Hello again,
I've been trying to run msm7227 setool2 and semc, but seem to be getting nowhere.. enters debugging mode and nothing else. What am i doing wrong?
Also, i've read in the following thread that sometimes boot is unlocked and S1tool says it's locked, but i can't find SEUS to download anywhere in the forum..

HEEELLP!!!
Thanks.
Hi, madz ...
To pull it together:
- The "SIM reader" is a software that comes as a part of Android in the form of a system app (inside /system/app). You can't exchange the related parts as they are specific to the Android version, in case your thoughts are running into this direction.
- The problem with "SEtool" is more like this ...
Let us assume the phone was originally SIM locked (bound to only allow SIMs of a specific operator/carrier) and then got SIM unlocked. The original SIM lock will jump back into place once the the boot loader got unlocked.
My observation is that this problem should actually go away once the boot loader got re-locked again. That being said I also read various threads where the SIM lock didn't vanish and the phone had to be unlocked anew.
On another note, it also depends on how the phone got unlocked ... there's a difference if it got SIM unlocked through SEtool or through Omious (<-- I hope it's spelled right)
The one fact that remains: simply querying the boot loader status ("R" vs "r") does not make the SIM lock to fire.
- SEUS ... well ...
I found Update Service (SEUS) 2.11.10.7 in the depths of my hard drive. Going to slap it on MultiUpload for you in a minute - though I can't guarantee that it still works; all I know is that SEUS got discontinued (or something along that line). Wait for the edit of the download!
EDIT: MultiUpload swallowed the file --> Download link

Shouldn't you connect the phone in flash mode instead of USB-Debugging mode?
Flash Mode means:
- Pull the USB cable out of your computer but leave it attached to the phone
- Turn the phone OFF
- Start the software
- Press the Back button and connect the USB cable to the computer
KEEP THE BACK BUTTON PRESSED UNTIL THE PHONE IS RECOGNIZED!
(Note: Windows may want to install the "SEMC Flash Device" driver)
Hi BJ,
The phone is not locked! it accepts pin from all networks, but after this, simply doesn't read the cards anymore. I only talked about this because the thread i found in SETOOL forum explains in detail what's happening to me.
I dunno if what happens to people who have no network or sim locked due to bad boot loader unlock is the same or not. It would be nice to know, but in my thread no one except you steps up.
If unlocked, i believe it's SETool and not Omnius because i only see threads with this issue in SETool support (dozens of complains) and found nothing in Omnius.
I still believe that maybe there's a solution other than unlocking it again, but due to inexperience i fail to see it.
about msm7227: i'm sorry, i meant flash mode, and it detects the phone, sometimes.. but always hangs in 2nd line (can't remember what said, but i'll try it again in a while and post here).
Where exactly is the phone unlocked? ROM, kernel, baseband? Do you think re-flashing it could solve the problem?
Thanks again friend!
Regards.

My X8 came SIM unlocked by default. Since it's old enough, and therefore safe for boot loader unlocking, I gave it a try (even been as daring as to unlock while having GDX v021 flashed).
Connected and checked with s1tool that it's suited for unlocking: Pass
Unlocked the boot loader: Pass
Booted up (SIM does not have PIN1 set)...
Connecting to the GSM Network: Pass
Connecting to the APN for 3G Internet access: Pass
Reboot (to make sure it didn't brick): Pass
Re-locked boot loader: Pass
Checked with s1tool that boot loader is locked: Pass
Device still able to connect to GSM/3G: Pass
I didn't try to flash a custom kernel but just stayed with the stock kernel. During the whole testing scenario - from unlocking to re-locking - I didn't have any problems with GSM/3G network connectivity or troubles reading the SIM.
Like I wrote above the PIN1 check was disabled because sometimes GingerDX shows the "Network unlock" screen after inputting the PIN ... that's more-or-less a bug workaround.

If you refer to "how is the SIM lock lifted" then I think the best persons to answer this question are the guys who cracked the boot loader. I don't know enough about how the low-level init of the phone really works ... the boot loader guys aren't very chatty about telling us how the low-level boot of the X8 works.
Since, in my case, the SIM unlock prevails when flashing a custom ROM on top of the stock kernel (keep in mind I never flashed a custom kernel, so I never altered the "baseband" partition) the unlock can't reside in the ROM partitions.
But ... as the problem only arises when tinkering around with the boot loader but didn't affect my phone during boot loader unlock / re-lock ... and this is now purely guessing ...
The boot loader unlock only replaces the boot loader binary with a altered one. So if the thing that tells the phone that it's SIM unlocked resides in the part of the NAND where the boot loader / kernel / baseband is located it can only be a digital certificate or some sort of a binary that gets loaded through "Stage 1" init (during which the boot loader and kernel gets loaded and all the security checking stuff happens). It can't be in the higher init routines where the initialized kernel is boot strapping the ROM as that would disable the SIM unlock when flashing a custom ROM.
If blagus or the kernel devs have some ideas it would be great to read a few lines from a source knowing about the low-level init routines (to actually understand how the X8 comes to life once the power button is pressed).
On another thought ... the msm7227 CPU also must have some kind of firmware (think of it similar to a BIOS like a PC has) to init itself and the hardware ... maybe the SIM unlock is somewhere in there?
EDIT: On a third thought ... it would seem almost logical that the SIM unlock stuff is stored somewhere in the "security" related part of the NAND (somewhere deep down at the low-level init). If the phone came locked and got unlocked at some point the original SIM lock will most likely spring back into place at boot loader unlocking - so the SIM locked/unlocked thingy has to be somewhere in the low-level boot init; otherwise it wouldn't disable a "soft unlock" once the boot loader got unlocked and replaced past the cracked one which bypasses a whole lot of the security checks so unsigned boot binaries (kernel) can be loaded and executed.
Hi everyone,
I rooted my note and was using Jon ROM V3 for the last 3 months. Never had any malicious apps and my phone was working as usual.
Yesterday I took my phone and see that it is stuck at Samsung logo (an hour ago it was working fine). Tried reset and re-flashed ROM but no luck.
Later through download mode i flashed Official Indian Firmware(I live in India). Now I by passed the logo screen and the phone shows full signal bars but not able to connect to carrier network.
(tried all basic work out like removing battery/sim and re-inserting to phone and boot up)
I pressed power key and it did not show the power menu , it directly switched off mobile.
I rooted again with Philz kernel and flashed JON ROM. Still i see that my phone is not able to connect to any network. Also I observe that even here on this ROM when i press power key it directly turns off.
This is weird. I thought my IMEI was wiped off but im lucky to see that its still there.
I need your help. Im without my phone for the last 2 days now.
-
Jonathan
Note - I find that my IMEI number has been changed (to some generic IMEI 004999010640000) after i flashed the official firmware !!!! that's why it is not connecting to any network.
Someone please help me.
How did you flash the official firmware?
was it a tar file or a zip? I mean did you use odin?

It was a tar file The official Indian firmware I got from sammobile
either a glitch or you selected by accident clear efs.
anyways without efs backup hard to recover emei.
Do you get the simcard enter pinscreen on boot? If you dont then its not imei, if you do then you need someone like cvxcvx, search to fix it. That or Samsung

No I do not enter pin for simcard. I see my imei has been changed to 004999010640000. I tired fixing one problem and got onto another.
I guess there is no way other than sending my device to Samsung !
Anyways I appreciate your help. Thanks

You have a so called "developer IMEI". If you didn't safe your EFS then there is no real chance to restore it yourself.
There is a member (cxlcxl) who has hardware and can restore the original IMEI remotely.
But you still can use your device. Try to change the Sim Pin in the settings: you can use the same Pin for old and new (this is easier for me because sometimes I forget the new number).
After this the network connection should come back.
My workaround in my Pristine Custom Rom: one different jar-file that doesn't have the checks on startup from my old XXLSC dump. With this it works completely normal: Sim and Pin are always recognized from startup. I'm using this for many months now.

Aha , yes not joking.
I searched high and low for solution of my problem but i couldnt find the right solution to my problem that's why I'm starting this thread.
Phone- Xperia Sp C5302
Stock Kernel
Rooted
Philz Touch recovery installed
Nandroid backup made using TWRP
Tried to unlock bootloader- Problem starts from here........
Initially phone rebooted normally but couldn't detect sim and signal.
Then phone started rebooting after few minutes . Stay on for a while then reboot again till battery died.
Now battery not charging, phone showing no life, no led, no vol up+power, vol- power , vol up+vol down+power work
Tried everything I know plz help and plz explain slowly and calmly.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
EDIT:
Used wall charger 2amp for charging left overnight no red led or anything as described in other posts
Connected to laptop left for about 4 hours no nothing.
Tried to connect in fast boot not detected.
Any more ideas guys at least give some pointer for what to do or is my Sp is actually dead ? And I can't restore my backup? Plz guys help
EDIT: Pressed the small button at the back and the phone came back to life YESSSSS........
Now the phone isn't showing imei no. or sim or network. But when restarted it imei and network came back magically. So I thought the problem is solved to confirm it I switched phone off again then switched on then imei and network gone again and also baseband isn't showing too (I'm sorry if it is the same thing I'm a newb to this stuff)
Then again I restarted the phone number it came again. I don't know what to do in this situation. I just wanted to unlock bootloader and install xenon hd rom in my Xperia Sp.

Try flashing stock ftf with Flashtool.
If the problem gets solved, then start with the new ROM.

Use the method answered by the previous post. But I will add into that
You can use the flashtool to flashing everything stock but please dont flash System and Kernel. If you flashed a custom recovery and want it to stay untick Fotakernel as well.
This should fix your problem without having to deal with the stock ROM.
But if problem persists then I would suggest a complete stock ROM flash.
Huge chance that the process of unlocking your bootloader is faulty. Are you sure that it went without errors? Anyway you might also wanto to try to relock and then unlock the bootloader again
@Zenith I left the phone idle for sometime now it's OK ish . I've made a nandroid backup but can u tell me plz which folder contains imei and other important stuff so I can make a backup of it too.
BTW I think my bootloader is not correctly unlocked coz pc companion is detecting my phone bravia engine is there gracenote is working. But in service menu under configuration I found: Bootloader unlocked: Yes.
Previously it was Bootloader unlock: Yes. So is it unlocked or not if not then how to unlock?
I've followed sony's official unlocking method.

You don't need to backup imei. It will stay the same no matter what ROM you use.
and You can use Titanium Backup to backup all your important apps and data. But do not backup/restore system apps.
and in the service menu;
"Bootloader Unlock allowed - Yes" means that your Bootloader is Locked, and you can unlock it.
"Bootloader Unlocked - Yes" means that your Bootloader is unlocked.
Bravia engine shouldn't work if your BL is unlocked, so something must have gone wrong in the process.
Follow what's said in post #4.
@Zenith Thank you for your wonderful suggestion i will do as u say. bt one big noob ques- Do i have to dload a ftf file to flash to stock cant i use my backup or someyhing from it to restore?
@TechnoSparks yeah i think you are right about my bootloader bt isnt there something to check if BL is unlocked correctly. Btw when i requested to unlock BL in fastboot nothing really happened apart from
<Bootloader > Unlock phone requested
OKAY [15.725s]
finished. total time: 15.725
Then restared approx every 10 min or so till battry went flat and phone being dead untill i reseted it via pin

Yes, you have to download the ftf file.
Use this one.
and don't use the latest version of Flashtool, use the "0.9.18.5" version.
@Zenith Thanks bro bt my model is C5302 will it be compatible?
And i just dloded 0.9.18.6 version. its not latest 0.9.19.0 ver is latest.
So do i have to dload again? (connection limited bandwith n slow speed)
@Zenith Sorry bro for bugging you again n again bt u r the only person who showed some intrest in this post and helping me.

You should flash ftf specified for C5302 then.
Download the C5302 variant that you prefer from here.
And try flashing with the Flashtool you have. If it doesn't work properly, then uninstall it, and install the 0.9.18.5 version.
Some members including me faced some problems on the next 2 versions of flashtool. So yeah..

Even you can flash C5303 ftf on C5302. I personally use Singapore variant .207. It has got least bugs and it is fast and much bloatware free.
P.S. Dont flash .201 it has got a lot of bugs.
Hi folks,
I've upgraded/replaced the original TMobile firmware (14.5.B.0.247) on my Xperia Z1s (c6916) by c6906 Customized US (14.6.A.0.368). Everything works fine except few things like:
1) screen rotation - when i try to rotate the screen into the landscape mode - it turn the screen in opposite direction/backwards. Looks like the sensor readings get reversed? It was working fine before the upgrade, hence it looks like a software issue. Any ideas how to fix it?
2) device memory is twice less but it is kind of expected because original Z1 has only 16 Gb of storage onboard. Is there any way to fix that?
Thanks.

ok, here is a "solution":
The C6906 "/etc/sensor_def_qcomdev.conf" must be replaced by C6916 version. The same applies to CyanogenMod 12.1. C6916 have different settings for few things.
I downloaded TMO firmware, extracted system.sin and replaced the file on my phone running CyanogenMod 12.1 - after reboot rotation works perfectly but it will get broken as soon as i upgrade the firmware
how did nobody catch that this dude managed to flash a different firmware on a phone that is supposedly NOT unlockable? Shefys, you need to explain exactly what you did. In another thread you said you unlocked your Z1s c6916 on developer.sony.com and i tried it, but there was no Z1s option. Followed the steps anyways by selecting Xperia Z1 but the unlock command failed citing not allowed.

hi, i wasn't aware that you cannot unlock z1s booloader. I just went to the developer site, registered, submitted my imei (as a Z1) and got a link/key to unlock it.... maybe my imei was lucky. Sorry, folks. Right now I'm running CM12 on my Z1s. Can provide photos if you want to
Before unlocking the bootloader, i was running C6906 official firmware on my phone because it was newer.

Yes please post pics. I tried unlocking my z1s as a z1 just like that but it didn't work. The fastboot command to process the unlock returned a "not allowed" error.
If you can get to the service screen, there is a section where it says "unlockable: no". (Or yes). Can you post a picture of that?
How did you get on the 6906 firmware?
How to unlock with flashtool

after you take the link and after that you take the unlock code just have to unlock with flashtool:
1.) create a folder in the flashtool folder with your device code ... mine is : D:\Android\Flashtool\custom\mydevices\CB5A1WPPTA
2.) inside the folder, create a file called ulcode.txt , in the file just copy the unlock code
3.) open flashtool (be sure that your phone have enable usb debug and connected) and press BLU (bootloader Unlock)
4.) after that a window will appear with your code and the phone id, you select unlock and now you have the xz1s unlocked...
BE AWARE: in my case, the camera doesnt focus after unlocked and video just doesnt work...
for the rom, i think you could take it using xperifirm and installing with flashtool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbAfxL-oGjk
I'll have to try this and report back. I understand that unlocking the bootloader causes issues with the camera, but does the issue get resolved by flashing a ROM? Or does it stay broken?

Hello
I'm not an expert about Asus Phones (I've got my own ZenFone Go just since 2 days), but i'm not sure then NVRAM.bin cause networks problems. This could be something like Baseband or Firmware. Have you searched if Asus released full firmware for your phone? (and also try to flash it from recovery, or your PC) This could generally solve some problems.

Hello tambok,
Unfortunately AFAIK, NVRAM partition holds the data for all the radios(like the uniqu IMEI number for telephony radios, other stuff for Wifi and Bluetooth etc.), and it's unique for every device, so if you didn't back it up, sorry - your device has turned into a very expensive brick.
Should you manage to get it through repairs, warranty(who am I kidding, your warranty is void because of flashing it) or non-warranty, back up the NVRAM next time you format your device.
@tambok_15 bro you should be able to find your wifi, bluetooth, imei, etc code for you device on the box of that phone the day you purchased it. It should be written on one of the sides. (Screenshot below)(i erased mine)
After you find the device-specific code on the box, you can then flash it into your nvram via SN Write tool (just google it) just make sure to have the correct drivers as well. You can also find a tutorial on how to use sn write tool on the forum hovatek.
I am not 100% sure this will fix the phone entirely but it's worth a shot. Good luck.
Edit: If your problem is related to baseband i don't know about it maybe you can find a solution on google . . .
