hi folks,
I found my xt1058 will automatically power up when plugged to my laptop. but when plugged to the charger, it will not. Is that normal?
Yes it is. Others have asked the same question and got the same answer.
I see the same on my X. When off and plugged into wall charger, it stays off. When off and I plug it into PC's USB port it turns on.

No. that is not something I've looked into as I rarely plug my phone into the PC.
With usb 2.0 having a max output of 550mA @ 5V, *IF* the X can charge this way, it would be really really slow. So the only time I connect my X to my PC is when I'm using mfastboot, or adding new music onto my phone.
I use 1A and 1.5A wall chargers for power.

I plugged in my phone to charge it this morning and all of a sudden when i connected it to my wall charger it went into USB Debugging mode? This is a first for me and it kinda scared me a bit. I then unplugged and plugged it back in and it went into charging mode. Can anyone explain this? Has this happened to others?
I believe if the charge current is low, such as 500ma, the phone assumes it is connected to a computer. Doesn't mean anything other than a slow charge.

thanks for the reply.
im sure it was just a fluke. ive always charged it in this wall outlet. i replugged it and it works fine
has this ever happened to anyone else?
This happened again. Can someone help me out here?
Happens to me all the time. As the poster above mentioned, shouldn't be anything to worry about.
You can turn off usb debugging if it bothers you or use a different usb cord as some have a tendency to do this because they reduce current flow too much

That happens to me when i try to use the iPhone charger.. I'll try to jailbreak it..
Download "Spare Parts" from Market. In the Battery Info section, you'll se if the phone detects your charger as USB (PC, below 500mA) or a Wall charger (700mA)

So if it detects my wall outlet to be below 500mA then the power going to that wall outlet is low?

Let me test.. But my iPhone charger is 1000mA!! And my phone detects it as DC, acording to Spare Parts (USB), and if i switch to the original charger, it turns into AC..
If the phone controls how many mA/Volts can receive, and the charger is detected as DC, it will be charging at the same speed as if you use the PC USB, no matters if you uses a 200000mA charger...
BTW, sorry about my english

The charger has wiring that shorts the data lines - this tells the phone it is a wall charger and not a usb port - the usb port carries data, so the lines are not shorted. This controls the amperage - If it shows AC - the phone detects the shorted data lines and the phone draws about 700mA. If the phone does not detect the shorted data wires, the phone only draws about 500mA. In all cases the voltage is 5V DC.
I have a 2A car charger. With a regular cable (non-shorted data lines) the phone thinks it is on a USB port. I short the data lines and the phone says AC charging.

I am using the regular charger that came with the phone. Does this mean the charger is faulty?
I get this all the time. Probably because I'm using the little white USB to wall converter from my old iPhone. I still get a good charge, though I've noticed it charges about 2x faster if I turn it off and use the black charger from Samsung. That way I get about 20% an hour, otherwise about 10% an hour.

If you are using the charger and cable that came with the phone, and the phone settings page says you are charging via USB and not AC - then either the charger or phone is faulty.
is there a way to just use the usb cable like when I plug the gt into my computer to get it to charge?

Try to turn off your tab then plug to your computer usb
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk 2
Even though the icon looks like it thinks the tab isn't charging, it does actually charge anyways. Leave it plugged in overnight with the screen off, and you'll see. My Nook Color does the same thing. It's just that charging with normal 500ma USB is slower than the 2A regular charger so they want to discourage you from charging that way.
So my cousin gave me his HP TouchPad to fix because it didnt boot up, he had gotten it from someone and it worked for a while as he stated but than it died and now it woulndt turn on. It's a 16bg i believe and i have searched the forums so i did try a few tricks. When i hold the power button it gives me the low battery and right after it, the white connect to power logo. It shuts off afterwards. When i connected to the computer straight away, it gives the low battery and says to charge reliably use the original cables and so fort, then it shuts off. Anyone can help me with this please?
Thank You
did you try to charge it with the original charger?
Bad charging cables are known to cause this problem.
Well I have the USB cable it came with but not the wall charger. Tried cables from my galaxy s 4g, blackberry and few other cables that fit it. Nothing. Tried apple wall charger and Samsung wall charger still nothing. U know where I can buy the originals for it?

You need that hp charger or one that puts outt the same juice 5.3v=2.0A it wont charge on the computers usb port.
It will charge with a 1 amp charger(iPhone;htc wall usb) albeit slowly.
Definately test another cable, find the highest rated USB charger you can, ????, profit!
Well thanks for the replies. I just got home from work and it was connected to the usb port all day, now i took my iphone chargers end and connected it into the power strip and connected the usb. Any idea where i can find the originals or ones that work for this touchpad. When ever power connects to it, low battery comes up showing little bit left with red and it says connect originals if u want the most reliable charging..

Hello guys! this is my first android phone, so far I'm really happy but, It only charges via USB plugged to a laptop or pc, when I try to charge it the normal way, plugged to the wall, it tries to charge but then it shows nothing on the battery icon, like if it were dead or something. I have to charge it via pc or latopt always, and I would like if you can give me a help here, maybe is something I'm doing wrong.
Thanks in advance!

Did you try with a different wall charger? Perhaps yours isn't good. I can't really see why else it wouldn't work.

So are you saying that when you plug into the wall charger it doesn't charge at all or it just doesn't show any animations indicating that its charging?
If you go to settings>battery while its plugged into the wall charger does it show its charging in there? If it does then you are fine. I have two wall chargers at home and for whatever reason it never shows that the phone is charging short of going into battery settings but they do charge my phone.

When I plug the captivate to the wall charger, it starts the animation like if wre charging, but 2 mins later it just stops... I tried what you did and no, it's not charging... I tried with 4 different chargers already but no luck. When I plug it to the usb it charges normally, only wall charger is not working... Since it charges normally via USB, I thought maybe was an OS issue, really dont know...
Thanks for your concern! :good:
I noticed the USB charger doesn't plug all the way in the moto x but it still charges fine. Is this normal?

There should be just enough sticking out for you to get a dime or maybe a paperclip in between the phone & plug. About 1/16". Yes, this is completely normal
