Hey everybody.. Curious if anyone has used both the M8 and the S5..guy wants to trade his M8 for my S5, but just curious about anyone else's experience.
My main concerns:
Camera (is the One really that much inferior) I take a lot of pics
Speed/Fluidity (fastest and smoothest Galaxy for me yet, but TW still hits a few lag snags time to time)
Rootability (this bootloader will be locked for how long?)
Overall I love the S5 a lot, just thinking the M8 may give a better user experience? I'll miss the waterproof stuff but I baby my phones anyway, so...
Thanks for your input!

For you, it comes down to Camera vs. Root, and you say you take a lot of pictures.
If living without root is not killing you, I say keep the S5.
You just said you love the phone a lot. Besides think, why is the other guy willing to give up his M8 for your S5?

I did the switch, could not live without root. Currently having the M8 on my 13 day of use. To be honest the M8 camera is not as bad as you'd think. Focus is super fast ans shutter speed is on par with the S5 (if not faster). In low light conditions the M8 is much better than the S5, sound quality while recording video is also a lot better than the S5, I can record inside a club and not having any distortion on the sound. Now the M8 have some issues with the camera lens been made of poor materials/coating and get scratch easily if you not take care of it and it will impact the picture quality. Sense is much smoother than TW, there is no Lag in Sense at all. One thing you might not like (I still don't) is the onscreen buttons.
So in short to answer your questions
1 - No, the camera is just fine, just don't try to zoom to much, but quality wise is on par with the S5 (aside of some over exposure issues than are fixed by flashing a modified camera apk already in the M8 forum)
2- Sense is way faster than TW hands down, (and no lag)
3- The bootloader will be lock forever, only hope is to find a vulnerability to achieve root and then you will only be able to flash TW Roms (just like the Note 3)
4- if you can get use to the onscreen buttons, is a much better experience.
Awesome points. Thanks so much. I may take the plunge! I notice quite a bit of lag in my S5 (again best it ever been, but lag still) and toying with the M8 at Best Buy I noticed none at all. I couldn't slow it down even while intentionally taxing it. Thanks again

I had an M7, worst phone I ever had. Loved it at first, but had nothing but problems. And the camera was crap. Looked good on the phone, but any amount of zoom/cropping on a computer really shows is limitations. That is, if the pictures didn't come out pink, like all 7 devices that I ended up using.
HTC is out of their mind for staying with 4mp, and i will never buy another HTC product again after the m7 fiasco. I will probably end up buying the next nexus device anywsy(if there is a good gear 2 alternative, one of the main reasons I bought the S5).

I have both (wife has s5, i have m8). Camera quality isn't bad at all. That's the ONLY advantage the s5 has in my humble opinion. M8 better in every other regard

G3. Or g2. Ive had each note 3 s4 s5 and m8..i love all. But sold them and kept g2. Next up. G3. I cant be with a company that releases a better product every couple months or so. Id go broke. But i am happy with lg. They have grown. Truly never had m7 and s5 i more or less had replaced screen for client but had it a week. I like the display. But the prime will be out soon. So this is my point. This way 6 months gives me time to buy g3 and prime s5 or whatever its called. Maybe even iphone six. Just to have and tear apart.

I was really set on the One, but started reading about all the issues people were having with the screens and gaps and speaker noise. I started reading up on the S4 and thought maybe a change would be nice, since I've been with HTC since the Hero days. I would like to hear some personal experiences and feedback. I got some hands on with the One and it was smooth as can be, but haven't had a chance to play with the s4 yet. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am a hardcore perfectionist and had VERY high expectations for the One.
I will tell you that i have an almost-noticeable-with-the-bare-eye cluster of about 4 stuck pixels (at 450+ dpi you really have to look hard to see it), a 1mm gap in the middle of my zero-gap-construction device, and a home button that isn't as sensitive as it should be (which I know will be getting fixed in the next OTA).
Even being a hardcore perfectionist and demanding a LOT from this phone, I LOVE IT AND WOULD NOT TRADE IT FOR ANY OTHER PHONE. It is without a doubt the most amazing piece of technology I've ever owned.
If you've been with HTC for awhile, now is not the time to bail out. This is the best phone they've made by a mile. Sense 5 is sick and the look and build quality is iPhone level. If you've held a GSIII, you know how the GSIV is going to feel. Not in same league imo.

I'm also trying to decide between the s4 and one. I listen to music a lot so the one def wins on that respect.
The one thing holding me back from getting the HTC one is that the aluminum back I'm guessing will be much more susceptible to scratches. I like to run my phones caseless, so just wondering if any current one owners could comment on how their phone is holding up so far? I went to sprint and the display model already had a chip on the back so had me worried.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Honestly, its all about personal preference. The One and the GS4 really are two totally different devices, the one really is a more polished device in my opinion. As I sit here and type this I have an HTC One and a GS4 sitting right next to me and after using the One for over a week then switching to the GS4 there is a big difference in performance. Now the truth is that out of the box the GS4 basically has more features than any other phone on the market but at the expense of performance. To me the One simply does everything faster, whether opening and closing apps, switching between apps, accessing the camera....etc..... the one simply does it with virtually no lag where as the GS4 stutters ever so slightly. I have gone as far as turning off every feature I could and even though that did help, its still no where near as responsive as the one and because of that I will stick with the One. Sorry but touchwiz for whatever reason is a bloated mess of a UI filled with features that are impractical which also hinders the performance of the device. I really wanted a 5" device and even with the plastic build it still a pleasant device to look at and hold but the performance simply falls short. Also, I know I can root the device but in the age of quad core devices with at least 2 gigs of ram, rooting shouldn't be the only way to increase performance.

I wouldn't say "top notch", but saying they are better than any other pack-in headphone would still be a disservice to these.

I love my One. I was set on getting the S4 at first when the argument seemed to be aluminum vs plastic, because the S4 seemed more powerful, but the One really is more than just an amazing looking device. I love the camera, I don't understand why people feel they need to zoom in on pictures, because if they don't, 4 MP is actually perfectly fine since it's a higher resolution than 1080. Pictures with the One are amazing no matter what the situation, which is very rare with cell phone cameras, I found myself being excited about having a cell phone camera for the first time since my very first flip phone. I tell people comparing the One and the S4's cameras is comparing quality to size, and I always prefer quality. Besides that the screen is amazing, but you probly won't be able to tell too much difference with the pixel density since they're both so dense. The speakers are also amazing, I've thought sound was coming from my computer speakers a few times that was actually coming from the phone. The call quality is great too, I can hear people much clearer that I used to have problems talking with on my evo 3d. It doesn't come with much bloatware and I haven't had any bit of lag yet, even with lots of apps running at once and playing graphics intensive games. I have also been very impressed with the battery life, I've used it constantly since I bought it and have not had it go under 10% before the end of the day, so I can actually play games on my phone now without worrying about the next time I need to plug it in.
My only gripe with the phone is the capacitive buttons, they only work when you press on the white part, so it's much less surface area than I'm used to, but it's not such a big deal, just a small annoyance to get used to. Sense isn't an annoyance on this phone, and any annoyances like blinkfeed or no quick settings in the notification pulldown can be easily solved.
They're both great phones, but when I did my own comparison of the two, I thought the S4s new features were more software gimmicks than improvements to me. The One has software gimmicks like Zoes and blinkfeed, but it has quite a few hardware improvements that were powerful enough to impress me.
Reading Anandtech's review of topped me over! They also have part 1 of the S4 review.

Hey all.
I have to s4 and love it. Loads! But I'm thinking about going for the z1.
Camera is good from what I've heard. But is it really that good?
Is it good for fast moving motion? Kids jumping on trampoline and stuff life that.
My s4 is just fantastic on sport pictures. Doesn't blur at all. Also battery life?
Also is the phone any good?
Sorry for all the questions I just want a change and I like this camera I hear on the z1.
How does the phone feel?
Thanks

I love my z1. The camera in great in daylight, but not so great at night unless you use the manual nighttime settings. Is it worth the upgrade is up to you. I never thought the s4 took bad photos. Myself, I'd say no if you are just looking for a better camera. S4 is a great phone. I just think the z1 is a slightly better one. It's my opinion though and I'm entitled to it.
Hmm... Well it's waterproof as well. Which is a big thing for me. I'm always scared to pull my phone out in rain. I love in Wales in the UK We get enough rain lol.

I've purchased a Galaxy S4 for my father and sister and personally own a Note 2. And let me tell you this - the Z1 feels remarkably better than the S4, or any Samsung phone for that matter.
The S4 is great 'n all with very solid hardware, but the Touchwiz UI is what is starting to really bother me. I played with my Z1 for a full day before I was forced to return it (LTE issues with the specific model I purchased) and simply loved it. I love the near vanilla Android experience with Sony's little UI on top. It wasn't as intuitive as Touchwiz, but it was so fluid in what it did that I simply did not care that it didn't have the same things that the S4 has. The only thing I'd say you'd have to consider if the size of the actual phone. While it may have the same amount of screen real estate, it is much larger than the S4. In fact, it's nearly the same size and weight of my Note 2.
So if you don't mind the larger phone (in comparison to the S4), then go for it. The camera and the waterproofing is just an added bonus. The experience of the phone is so great that is simply trumps every other aspect. Everything is just so smooth and fluid that I'm having very little second thoughts about my future purchase. The Note 3 was released today and I love it (I work at Best Buy so I've got unlimited access to it really) but I simply cannot ignore the greatness of the Z1.

I just gave my S4 to the Mrs after buying the Z1. It's faster, camera is awesome. The timeshift burst is fun and makes for great "auto-awesome" pics on g+.
I've also put it in the sink a few times and use it in the shower.

I like my GF's M8 better than my S5 in only a few areas - speaker and build quality.
The M8 sounds far better than my S5, it's not even a close comparison.
Th M8 has the HTC "feel", it just is nice to hold. I don 't mind the plastic S5 as I've had plastic phones for 4 years but the M8 has a solid/dense feel that my S5 does not have.
I actually like the M8 camera better just because my S5 takes 3-5 seconds to open the camera app and sometimes gives me a hard time waking the phone if left open. This might not be all S5s as I haven't seen other users saying this. The M8 runs smoothly and the camera is quick. I can't say the M8 has an inferior cam in real life, it might be technically less advanced but in everyday usage I do not see a problem with her pics. I do not take a lot of pics, but for cell pics I am happy with both phones; if you need truly high quality pics for some reason you're not likely to use a phone cam anyway.
Neither device is markedly superior, but they are different. Maybe ask for a 1 week trial, if you don't like it trade back?
Nice points! That's one of my main concerns. I just don't want to go from taking pics (my kids, repair issues for rental units at work, etc, nothing real pro here) with the s5 and then same pics with M8 and see some type of "ugh" difference in quality. I experience the same 2-3 sec lag in launching the camera as well by the way.

I will spare you all the usual review crap. I got mine from Tmo on the 19th. I came from a g3. At first I didn't like the size but now that I've adjusted it's fine. I find myself using landscape a lot and I like that. I've been averaging around 4 to 5 hours sot depending on my day, location, and type of usage. I have to say that LP at first was just kind of cool. I thought "hmmm, a few cosmetic changes but still the same old android (not a bad thing)." But after using LP for almost a week all the differences really stand out. I love LP. The difference is in the little details. I love custom roms, kernels etc but honestly this thing is GOOD right out of the box. I've never heard boomsound but I really love the n6 speakers. Build quality is SOLID. I think the blue color is different but not my taste, plus it loves to hold onto finger prints. I bought a spigen slim hard case for ten bucks, problem solved. I've forgotten what FCs, stutters, lag, reboots, and general frustration were like. This phone and LP is a game changer in my book. Do yourself a favor and get one. Spend some time with it. You have nothing to lose. If you don't like it, trade it or sell it easily. Only phone I've had that I didn't regret buying in any way and I've only had it less than a week. I usually get a new phone every 4 to 6 months, but I can see myself keeping this for a long time.
Do you like to root and use custom roms? I think that is the biggest question to ask first, and if the answer is yes then there's no contest, go nexus. If you use it stock, it becomes a little harder. I've never had a sony so I can't say anything about it, other than being IP rated would be nice (waterproof is something I think all phones should be in 2015).
I can say there's a 200 plus page rant about whether to get the note 4 or nexus 6, it was a good idea for a thread but devolved into childish bickering. I have the nexus and so far I love everything about it. I have only had it 1 day so I can't say anything about the battery life, from what I've read the M8 has great battery so I don't know if you'll see much difference. I know the N6 is way better than the N5 so far.
And the front speakers are great, again never had an HTC boomsound but compared with the N5, the note 4 and the S3 the N6 sounds much better. Again, IMO front speakers are something I think all 2015 phones should have.
The front stereo speakers may not be quite HTC Boomsound, but it'll be less of a drop-off than any other phone on the market.
When it comes to sound quality, if you have to leave the M8, the N6 would be the natural second choice.
If you're losing service in buildings a lot, though, it's no question. Grab the N6 and enjoy Band 12.
Sorry for the misspell

I used be all into rooting and custom Roms but with work having smartphone apps that are a pain to register I don't really do it anymore besides lollipop negates the need for rooting except ad blocking

Did any of you switch from the HTC One_M8. If so is this phone worth the switch?

You have to see for yourself. I think the m8 sucked. It lasted me 3 hours till I took it back. Best thing I can tell you is go to Best buy and try it on hands on.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
I loved the M8. Wish I still had one actually. Just depends if you like the smaller phone or the larger one. If you like the thought of the larger screen the Note 4 is a great phone.

I felt compelled to respond to your question...
The first thing I did was, put myself in your shoes.. And I ask myself:
"Did any of you switch from the Note 4? and is ____________ phone worth the switch?
Maybe without realizing it.. There is something about the M8 that you do not like.. you are certainly not 100% satisfied with it..
Or you would not even be considering another device.
It's certainly fast enough.. IMO.. Still has the smoothest, lag-free interface going.. beautiful screen, 32 GB's of storage.. etc.
It's a Flagship Phone..
But it's not a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
This is the Biggest Baddest most Feature-Rich Phone on the Planet..and it has the Fastest Hardware on the Planet..( Try the CM 12 Alpha ROM to see the Note 4's 2,700 MHz perform without the burden of Touchwiz ) So "Yes" it's definitely worth the switch.. it does it all.. from Productivity to Gaming.. Drawing or simply reading on what's been described as the "Best Screen Ever Put On A Smartphone"
Check this UTube out as well if you want to see some of what the Note 4 can do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-kaOjfAZyQ
No I'm actually quite happy with the m8 and how it functions. If htc made a phone that size (not the one max) but one with features like the note then I would get it.

I switched from the m8 to the note 4.
The M8 was a solid phone and i absolutely enjoyed it. But when i saw that note 4 screen and camera in action.
I had to get it.
