Someone Please Help Because Moto Support is a Joke - Moto X Q&A

Okay guys so here's the story. I bought an Unlocked 32 gb (T-Mobile) Moto X from Motomaker. I was told multiple times that you could unlock the bootloader. And that the phone is the same as the T-Mobile model. When I tried to unlock it I got the device is not eligible for bootloader unlock message. Can anyone tell me I'm stupid and the Unlocked Moto X cannot be bootloader unlocked? What is the deal here??
Here's a good joke (the guy refused to believe that bootloader unlock and SIM unlock were different):

Yes I sound a little rude if you just look at this but this is about the 4th time I was having this exact same back and forth with this rep (third rep I tried)

Just go to Motorola website and follow the steps to get your bootloader unlocked. Sometimes you need to wait a few weeks or so to be eligible for unlock

I did follow the steps but when I input my get_unlock_data, the moto website tells me that it isnt eligible. Really hoping that I just need to wait a few weeks or so for it to be eligible. But isnt it just checking my device id aka that it is in fact a xt1053? Why should that take a week. Thank you for you reply though this gives me hope.
If it matters (I don't think it should) I took the ota to 4.4.3 right after I took it out of the box.

@Mont is correct. Just keep trying. The moto unlock site can be 'glitchy' at times.
Just FYI. The only time I needed help with the X, I called Moto support rather than chatting. I don't know if this is typical -- but I quickly got an ENGLISH-SPEAKING representative who was fairly knowledgeable. If you do have to contact them again, you might consider calling instead of chatting.
Good Luck

You having taken the OTA does not matter. If your phone IS an XT1053, it is 100% eligible for unlock. Just make absolutely sure you copied/pasted the unlock data correctly, and assembled it into a single string of characters as instructed.
You might try again once a day. It WILL go through eventually. If we didn't already have several reports of people having this same exact issue (and having to re-try again and again), I might suspect that there is a problem.....but given the reports, I would advise to just keep trying.

I'm SO jealous! The OP has one of those new MAGICAL phones that can load the operating system without a bootloader!!!! How exciting! I bet it has a neural-interface and can read brainwaves too...

The instructions for cutting and pasting the code generated in the cmd window on the motorola website kept leading to the same not eligible message for me too and deleting the spaces didn't help. What I did was to cut and paste the code from the cmd screen into wordpad first, then make it one long string, then cut and paste that into the motorola website and it then worked.

I did the chat today because to ask them about a discount coupon that I had when trying to order the 64gb just to have they guy tell me that there's no such thing as a 64gb moto x

you have to be careful how you put in the code from the adb command. that's what happened to me. try and format it accordingly like the example given. ex. copy and paste to wordpad and remove any indents or (boot loader) . good luck.

Cant unlock bootloader c6903 EE UK Z1 Anyway around it?

Having had my fair share of issues with this phone, i've now found out that when i try to unlock the phones bootloader that I can't do it.
Went to the unlock bootloader page and tried it even though the phone said NO to unlock and it failed.
Does anyone know of a way around this?
Seriously had enough of this phone now, really annoying me, doesn't seem to be a lot of people with this issue either.
Bootloader Unlocking Allowed: NO
You can't unlock bootloader. Is impossible and no confirmation if even will be in some "unofficial" way.

I feel your frustration as I cannot unlock my c6906 either. To bad carriers opted to have this done. I didn't have the funds to straight out buy from Sony so I went the upgrade route from my carrier and paid $99 instead of the full $700 cdn.
Damn it! I'm on the same boat then.

Im with EE too and have the same issue. Im not fussed anymore, im selling the phone and will be getting the note 3. This phones the first phone ive had, in a while, that I havent flashed roms/kernels with. Shame on Sony/EE for messing it up.

I've had my t-mobile/ee phones from phones4u and carphone warehouse. If you go through them, rarely are bootloaders/sims etc locked.
Just a hint for the future
That's why i never a phone from Provider
1. Bootloader 5h1t
2. not really somehow cheaper, as my home city is Hong Kong, can buy cheaper phone then provider easilly, especially for parallel version
3. ok, i know most of u are not from HK, buy it from Amazon or Ebay, ask the seller if the BL is unlockable.

I understand what you mean and I will never be doing that again, the reason i went with EE was because the insurance is way better than anywhere else, i'm a long standing Orange customer and their customer services for me have been top notch, I get 40% off my line (retail discount)
Could have went to CPW but didn't as they didn't have the deal i wanted, plus the insurance.
Will never make this mistake again but it is an absolute first for me, all my phones have always been from orange / tmobile / vodafone, never had an issue with the bootloader being locked down like that, damn them for it.
Will be going with O2 and probably the HTC m8 when it surfaces.
Won't putting different firmware on it solve this? Or is it put on the handset a different way?

Unfortunately you tried to give an answer without knowing.
I am losing my will to live here currently.
I apologise, but if you stick around a few days and read some threads you will see it was justified. It has been an Xperia issue for over 2 years. So there is LOTS of info about this if you just google it.
I will delete it anyway..

Keep trying, its a journey
One I have enjoyed, but I needed a few kicks in my arse to get on the right track,
You need to read, learn and try for yourself.... That way we all gain from the experience, instead of just handing out "updates" this is about modding and doing it yourself.
I do hope you understand..

I do get that- and I am reading around a lot...but I've only just got up on XDA and haven't really done a lot re:bootloaders before and it was close to xmas And with work I just haven't had the time. Next time just point me in the right direction and say "No, it doesn't work liek that - read this" or "look up this" instead haha. Either way, if you celebrate xmas have a good one, if not have a good day..
Hope someone finds out soon in regards to this.

sim unlock for SM-G800F

hi, i got a device from germany and when i enter my sim it asks for an unlock code.
i know changing firmware won't help
and i tried the *#197328640# trick that doesn't do anything.
any way around this or do i have to pay some unlock site to get me a code? if so, could you recommend a trust worthy one?
Nah. Go in recovery mode and reset your user data there. Your phone will turn in factory mode without codes, data and stuff
hey, thanks for the try, it didn't work

PS:About the video I found around internet a post and 99% of the people tryied say that doent work,is a very old post so I supose that ,if works is only for very olso handy
The "official" routine to unlock your phone is to call the provider for which the phone is locked and pay them MUCH money to get the unlock code.
A friend of mine was on vacation, lost his phone (an old one, so no hard cry) and he bought another phone from a local provider just to realize when he was back home, that it was simlocked...
I googled a lot then to find any free solution, tried flashing a custom rom etc. but nothing worked. I have found some offerers on the internet where you can buy those unlock codes (way cheaper than those from the providers). It takes a few days until you get the code. When I did it, it took about 2 days until I got the code and it worked flawless. The page that I used was this one. And it is at least an official "google trusted store". I just looked it up and unlocking the s5mini with a simlock from a european country (meaning the lock is from a european provider) would cost you 17,99€.
Let me clarify that I dont say there isnt another option. I just dont know any. My friends phone was a Huawei and I didnt search for unlocking samsung phones and also dont know whether some new technology/hacks or else came up in the meantime that will do the trick without paying for it.
I only used that service once and everything worked perfect so I wanted to suggest it, but whatever you will do is up to your risk
*edit*:
what I forgot:
You could try to flash another firmware. Unfortunately I didnt find any firmwares for my friend's huawei or couldnt install them. You find plenty of official samsung firmwares and it would at least be worth a try before you have to pay something! Not sure if those lock is stored on any of the partitions that are flashed with the firmware...

Not sure you can to be honest. Then again, there's plenty of people around here that should be able to correct me if I'm mistaken.
But isn't this kind of the point with Google's Device Protection? To make a stolen phone unable to be used without the correct log in credentials. Sure, this is a bought phone, but still, if it's easy to bypass the feature itself is kind of worthless when it's actually needed.
Here's some more info about it: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...evice-protection-feature-and-how-do-i-use-it/
So.. not sure how you'd proceed from here. It'll be interesting to see if you're able to bybass it though! Hope you get it working mate.

There is no way to bypass it other than putting the correct password in.
1) previous owner gives their google password
2) previous owner resets their google password, wait 72 hours then.enter it
3) Mail the phone back to previous owner and they enter password
None of the above?
4) mail it back and get a refund.

If its that easy to bypass this on lost or stolen device then this protection is crap seriously.

I can assure you, this security is not easily bypassed. Note that the OP never responded to the query about how. The security on the N6 is no joke. Just ask the lot of people who had to RMA because of these features.

On your device, for which, you have the password. Try it on a nexus that you don't have a password for. No factory reset will get you past the security if it has been set up properly.
Well, I do this.. Enter my normal gmail. Then factory reset just to make sure my storage is the correct size. Then it doesn't ask again.. Why is that?

Settings - Backup & Reset.
You will see the reset options and maybe a name of the backup account.
You need to know the account name and password.
When the N6 is reset. It will ask to sign in with a Google Account that was*previously*synced on this device.
This is the anti-theft stuff of Google.
but it wont revert to stock ROM, only delete the user data

you have to flash a factory image while using fastboot, while in your bootloader. its that simple. if you dont know how, then read/research before you do it. if you still cant figure it out, you dont deserve a nexus.

sorry, i didnt want to sound harsh, really. but you probably can use a root toolkit as well, if you dont feel like learning anything about your device.

That was still an insulting and baseless statement. Maybe he just wants a pure Android experience. Saying that if he doesn't understand hacking his phone or want to, then he doesn't deserve a Nexus, is exactly the terrible and snobbish attitude you'd expect from a devout iPhone user.
Don't you find it a bit ironic that you ask HIM why he wants to start an argument, when he's following up on a statement you started that was clearly meant to be derogatory? [emoji19]

It doesn't matter if it was a minute or 100 hours after the fact, two of the comments made were out of line. I was intimidated and afraid I would do something wrong the first time I tried to flash a ROM and I'm really glad I didn't get the responses that taita did or I'd probably never came back.

For me it's only a metaphor.
The point is use fastboot . The utility of Google to manage and flash our Nexus.

Preorder status

So just to get the ball rolling, I've pre-ordered 2 of these. On T-Mobiles BOGO offer. I'm hoping they ship early and arrive early. Usually I see a thread like this in every new forum for people purchasing to talk about arrivals and shipping.

I tried to get the same deal, but they refused as I didn't have the proper plan (BS). I still pre-ordered and my estimated ship date still says 11th-14th.
I've pre-ordered at best buy through at&t. Estimated delivery is the 10th. I was going to get the unlocked variant from Motorola but it was removed from their website before I could get one. Fingers crossed for an unlocked bootloader.

I did the same. BB was originally cheaper than AT&T, but has now raised its price to match AT&T.
I'm not sure why AT&T users get the shaft. Sprint is $24.66 for 24 months, and T-mobile gets a buy one get one free. If I wasn't grandfathered in to a dirt cheap plan I would have switched a long time ago.

This was Samsung's doing. Not T-Mobiles. It's been discussed before.
It really dosent matter who is doing it the problem is they are now locking down all US models

It really does matter though. While Samsung maybe locking down all US models. Its important to know if Motorola or the other manufacturers have followed suit. Since we've seen nothing like that yet. It makes it safe to assume that since TMobile doesn't care to lock it, and motorola hasn't cared either, that it will infact be unlocked. I believe your either speaking from ignorance, or your just angry at the mobile industry moving towards increased security.
When talking about last year's Z force, Verizon prefers to lock all bootloaders. And that device was exclusive to Verizon last year. I can't speak on the international version.
This is good info for anyone watching this thread for reasons to...or not to preorder.
Well last years model is locked down thats why i say what i say

HTC 10 is bootloader unlocked, but tmobile didnt carry it for very long at all. (Source, I own it, also easily checked here on XDA)
And as far as I know, the only phone they are selling right now that is bootloader unlocked is the LG V20. (LOS Install Guide, User Links other guides)

I think you've taken my post the wrong way. Ignorant simply means that you don't know. It wasn't intended as any sort of 'bash' or hurtful communication, and my statement of you being angry was to express that you appear to have a pessimistic view is all. None of it was meant as any sort of insult. Also, again, last year's US model was only on Verizon. Verizon is known for locking bootloaders. They did it with the note 5 when it was unlocked on Sprint and T-Mobile. At&t locks them as well.
For anyone looking at this thread wondering about purchasing or keeping their preorder. If you are in at&t or Verizon, I would expect to see the bootloader locked
.
Were are you getting info that international version was able to be unlocked i see nothing when i look on XDA there is no root roms or anything for last years model if you can find proof of it that would be great but like i said in XDA there is nothing so XDA is were im getting my info

Plenty more guides and what not. I'm sure there wouldn't be guides if it wasn't possible.
I don't see a z force of any kind with official dev support from Motorola. I should be able to pick my phone up from best buy Thursday or tomorrow if I'm lucky. Unless I'm absolutely blown away by it I think I'll be returning it as it seems development for this device is highly unlikely.
Even though it looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, the Galaxy s8 active seems to be a much better phone if you're looking for a shatter resistant, durable phone. 4000mah battery, headphone jack and ip68...for about the same price it's kind of a no brainer. I've personally never owned a Galaxy device but they seem to be xda friendly.
I'm between that or holding out to see what Sony brings to the table. I've always had a soft spot for them and I'm typing this on a Z3 compact...with a shattered glass back.
