hello everyone. .
my dad has been using an iphone 4 32gb right from it's month of launch till date and finally he is getting a new phone.actually he is getting the phone of his choice for free as a gift and i wanted to know whether you guys think it's wiser to get the iPhone 4s 64gb since it's much more expensive at around 4100 Qatar riyals($1125) compared to the note 16gb which sells for 3000 Qatar riyals($823)at virgin and vodaphone stores..he has been using ios for over 2years now and he can still sell the 4s if he doesn't like it and get a better phone later..plus iPhone's don't come defective straight out of the box like the note..if i could trust Samsung's quality then i would never even consider the iphone!!! i really don't want dad to be in the same dilemma that i am currently in!!!
me and my mom both have note 16gb...mom purchased hers from india for 31000 rupees($600) at the month of launch and she also got a nokia touchscreen phone worth 4500 rupees($90) for free from the eBay promotion that was going on at the time.btw this is a brand new in sealed box phone and the cheap price is because Samsung prices its phones reasonably in India right from lauch and my dad purchased mine from doha at virgin mobile store for 3000 Qatar riyal ($823) and sent it over to me in India.. btw he got the money back for it though since it was also a gift from some company
my moms phone is manufactured in Korea and it does not have any problems except for the banding and clipping..on the other hand my phone is manufactured in Vietnam and right from opening the box i noticed many problems with
1)there is a very faint pink spot in the middle of the screen only visible in low brightness with a grey or white background..after i noticed it once it drives me mad while browsing or reading e-books
2)while using the S-pen it registers the touch when bringing it close to the screen..i don't have to touch the screen.when it's brought close even at 3cm it registers the touch.. the weird thing is that it occurs only when using the phone in specific positions like while lying on the bed or using the phone inverted
3)the battery life on my device sucks!!!! my mom gets over 1day of light usage on her device..but she makes around 4-5 hours of voice calls!! i always use my device heavily but 4-5 hours of backup its unacceptable!!!!
when i took the device to a local service center in India they said that i would have to pay money to get it fixed since its out of country purchase!!! WTF IT'S A FRIGGIN' $800 DEVICE AND ITS DEFECTIVE ON ARRIVAL AND SAMSUNG REFUSES TO PROVIDE SUPPORT!!!!
anyway I'm suffering for trusting Samsung and purchasing its device and I'm paying the price for putting my trust and money on a company with no quality control who sells defective devices
i was using an iPhone 4 32gb myself and i got it around the time of launch along with my dads phone and to be frank i haven't faced a single hardware problem till date and now i regret selling it off when i got the news that i was getting a note
i don't want my dad to be in the same situation that i am currently in and i think he should go for the 4s 64gb
what do you guys think???

But Iphone 4s too has problems.....A friend of mine is waiting for a replacement for the 4th time for his iphone 4s.Its just 1 week old.Its not at all holding the charge. It charges for almost 12 hours to reach 100% and drains to swith off state in just 20 mins....Its unbelievable but its true. All the four mobiles had the same problem. So be careful if you are going to 4s
"the iphone doesnt come defective out of the box" ask my wife on her 4th ip4s lol. You and your ******* family need iphones. Theres a reason my technically challenge relatives have iphones and blackberries.

After you've bought iPhone you can still have chance to buy other phone. After buying SGN you won't even think about any other devices
Galaxy note anyday

why do you even bother asking such a question in a galaxy note forum, people posting here are definitely 'note' biased if not fan boys. ... (including me )
maybe you have already decided to get a note and you simple seek validation....
Did you actually type all that from a Note? (your signature says so~)
Then show that to your dad on a desktop or a laptop, then he himself would buy a Note.

i would ask him to get a note in a heartbeat if i am certain that he would get a device without any problems.. i just think with Samsung it is like a lottery.!!! if you are lucky you might end up with a device without issues otherwise you are screwed!! !!
i personally haven't faced any issues with my iPhone 4 and i used to have an HTC HD2(got wrecked inside a washing machine along with my track pants) and a Nokia N8 which didn't have any problems either...I've dropped my n8 a dozen times!! !! it used to be insured and i normally used it as a rough use phone but still it never had any problems other than slight dents even after i put it through so much

Definitely the Note.
- "old peoples" have "bad" eyesight and 5,3" will help much compared to 3,5".
- Note with S-Pen do a huge different.
- Both u and u mom already having the Notes and why not u dad too?
- See what u dad usually do with a cellphone and get the one that suits his needs.
Loan u Note to u dad, let him use it for few days and see what he got to say. Then get the one he is most satisfied with.
Best thing .. steal your dads phone and give him urs for 2 days, then give him back his iPhone..
You will see him immediatly asking for a Note as th gift
Note for sure.
So iphone too has problems. Alteast note has bigger screen and most important thing, its android
Android = from the people to the people by the people for the people.
ios = From apple to people.

lol that was hilarious...now let me be frank with you guys the whole reason i started this thread is because i personally am in love with the noteand i just wanted confirmation from people who have purchased it recently to tell me that the new production units are free from any sort of defects so that my dad can get 1..i can forgive Samsung once and i might just have been unlucky to get a one of a kind defective device which sneaked past quality control but even after soo many posts and more than 200 views not even 1 person has told me that Samsung now ships defect free units which makes me skeptical

I cant understand how people use 3.5" screens still !
HTC one X could also be a choice if Note is not at home ....
Used to own IP4 and IP4s and sold them even when jailbroke there not much you can do to it. Only gay theming and little tweaks other than that if you buy one Apple owns you they are so cheap to do hardware upgrades which they should have done after Iphone4. Note is way better than any iphone releases I will even pick S2 than iphone4 or 4s. Only reason I kept my iphone before is because of my free apps but the way I see it now Market is improving and seeing more apps and games available for download.

now now. my dad runs a few mobile phone shops in malaysia and i have used almost any mobile phone that was available in malaysia. to say that samsung is like a lottery doesnt sound right. honestly, buying every phone is like a lottery. we had customers who bought their phones for less than a week and come back with problems after problems after problems and you just cant help but feel sorry for them. when iphone 4s was first launched, my dad sold 2 straight to one of his friend. 2 weeks later, both screens werent working at all. some complained that the battery life was worse than 3gs some had no problems.
saying N8 is a tough phone hmm. i have dropped my iphone 3gs many times and no problem with mine either. one of the lucky customers accidentally dump his phone while holding in his hands onto his car and the whole screen was gone.
so far, i havent heard of any note with problems from customers. my dad is using note since the first batch and i just got mine yesterday. so far so good with no problem for mine and his. maybe yours was just one of the lucky ones? my dad is samsungs priority dealer so we get to have all the samsung mobile phones first hand and that means we sell the first batch too.
IMO, get what you think is best for him. let him try yours and see if he likes android or iOS. What we think is good may not be good for him. consider this, will he be able to port from iOS to android? does he just want a simple phone to just make calls and text just like the way he used to? or he wants something more.
i would go for note anyday too.
stability and usability: iphone 4s
functionality: note

I did a little digging around the forum(mainly because I'm bored and jobless till college starts again in July)and I found out that many people have faced similar issues with the s-pen and the display!!!
I've even noticed a huge thread about display issues with the note!! !
So its not just me who is facing problems with this device!!
BTW Nokia n8 was the MOST DURABLE SMARTPHONE that I have EVER used!!!
It has fallen from heights ranging from 3-5ft many times, plummeted down stairs and still lived to tell the tale another day

Hi all, this is my first thread.
I would like to share my recent discovery with you. Three days ago I bought Samsung Galaxy Note I (one) and I love it. However, I immediately noticed a large circle in the middle and a small one in the lower right section of the screen. It can only be clearly seen when there is a grey background (I noticed it when starting Market for the first time). I immediately installed a couple of screen test applications and realized that all the colours are fine, there are no dead pixels, just these kind of "imprinted" circles that I cannot erase. I did search the Google and this forum and realised that some users have the same issue with the SII (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1087236&page=4), although at the different places of the screen.
Today I found out the cause of the circles. By looking at the advertisement sticker that I peeled off the Note, I realised that the Samsung original sticker is the cause of the deterioration of the screen at these places!
Look at the two attached pictures and see for yourselves. Just to be clear, they are not dust or grease or something like that, the circles are "inside" the screen. And it is obvious that the patterns are the same as coloured adds on the sticker.
How can that be possible? Can it be that the phone spent a lot of time under the marketing glass at the store and that some kind of chemical reaction occurred under exposure to light?

Wow!!!!
The only thing that comes to my mind is that your particular Note was some sort of display unit behind a counter or glass shelf.
Let me explain... Since our super-mega-screens are AMOLED (meaning organic) based, they tend to deteriorate every time we use them, specially blue colors are the quickest to deteriorate when we use the device.
However, UV light (normal sun light and even fluorescent tubes like the ones in offices and stores) when shined directly to our screens tend to degrade the quality of the display even quicker!
I bet your Note spent way too much time under UV light while the sticker was on the screen, thus creating a ghost image or shadow over it.
Unfortunately, there's no way to fix this.
If I where you, I would return this Note ASAP to the store and explain your findings...
Cheers!

Definitely take it back and show them the very obvious proof that this has occured since before you even set eyes on the device !

Hi all,
My nightmare continues... After bouncing a couple of times between service store and the seller's store I finally got my brand new Note. Not. I got a new one, but it turned out to be a demo model from another store, and guess what, it also has the same circles and shadows imprinted in the screen. The dealer said that this one has also been in display for almost half a year and to me no wonder it has the same screen issues. So, no luck here.
But the thing gets even more complicated because they do not have another Galaxy Note anywhere, in any store, so they cannot replace it (they returned them all and are starting to advertise Note II, which is a lot more expensive at my carrier's tariff). So I am stuck. I tried to get the DOA form and hopefully will get it through the day and go to the authorised importer here in Croatia and hopefully get a new one or at least have my screen repaired. However, I am not happy to see my new phone going to repair shop, I know that I must get a fresh new one if I return it in a weeks time.
More strangely, the store said that if they return the phone to the authorised dealer they will need to give me the new one and since they don't have it they are willing to cancel my two year contract? And that is the only thing they will do. And I do not want that, all I want is a perfectly working Note.
I will try to go to the importer myself with all the papers and will post back the results. Of course, I do not need to mention that I am very disappointed with the customer service....
I wouldnt have left the store with out either a Brand spanking new Note (Not display model) or without a contract termination.
I know you dont want to cancel, But your paying for a service which isnt being delivered !
Cancel that motherfu*ker and take out a new one with a better provider, Your current one sounds awful !
Tell your new provider that your old provider are offering you XXXXX handset for XX amount per month and if they can beat it, you will join them !
It worked for me I got my mummy the Nokia Lumia for £20 a month (free phone too) as opposed to her old provider wanting £35 per month.
These people dont give a $hit about you, They just want your money, So dont think the promises they make instore will keep because they wont!
Its time to play hard ball if you want a decent outcome!
PS: What sort of provider sells Ex Display models as 'Brand New' ones ? Over here in the UK we call these people 'Rogue Traders' !
Keep us informed :good:
You shouldn't let them do that to you

Well if they give you note2 for price of 1 its not to bad. Its majorly bad they gave you 2 faulty units.
Like above posters, cancel or claim working unit alternative.
Whats the namr of the store? So people can avoid it
Did you get a discount for using a demo product?
Also, always test screen in store. That way you can often exchange on the same visit.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
That is completely unacceptable! They can not sell it as New by any chance! As soon as the product leaves the box it becomes B stock!
B stock usually pays off and you can save a lot of money, but not with smartphones, unless aesthetic if the only flaw, which is rare...
I have a 7 string guitar I bought in B stock, it is completely fine, except for a dent on the finish on the back and the electronics were a bit messy so I got a HUGE discount!
Latter that month bought new pickups and redid all the electronics, taken from an older guitar I barely used, and got myself a limited edition Cort X-7 for 185 euros (something like 200dll)! (which is just plain ridiculous) xD
Be on the look for B stock items guys! You can make really great deals!
Hope you get your problem fixed! Good luck!

I hope you will file a consumer complaint against the store.

It's not the age, it's the mentality. Some 10 yr olds are ready for something like that. As technology grows, so do we. Heck, I had a Casio watch when I was young, it was the new hotness at the time. The Gear is no different. If the kid is able to have a compatible phone, he's able to have the Gear.

I see your point but, all I am saying is that just cause you can does not mean you should. Again, in this economy unless you have plenty of expendable cash, I would not recommended.
It's all about parenting and since it's someone else's child, they should make the decision and not be asking in this forum if they should or not.
Either way, good luck.

That's a case of having either a smartwatch that works with your phone to bring notifications or having a normal watch that tells the time and does an alarm and a stopwatch.
If you want a watch just for telling time, it'd be a better idea buying a standard watch, ith batteries that can last for a good few years.
If you want the smart functions though, go for the Gear.
But seeing as this is the Gear vs a standard watch, its not really a comparison...

Since you asked... for a 16 year old... I'd highly recommend the Casio Pathfinder Series ... besides looking over the top cool they last forever, provide a lot of functionality don't have to worry about breaking... Just a lot of style plus stuff like temperature, altimeter, satellite time setting, compass and solar charging... no plug in required.
Ha, u can tell I'm a big time g shock Pathfinder fan... And it doesn't need an attached smartphone.
The Gear is top notch quality (yes I actually owned one before returning it) and if you do get one you'd like it. Can't go wrong either way.
I returned my GEAR simply because I didn't think it was rugged enough for me. I love smart watches but was looking for something similar to my previous Motoactv watch which could do mp3s, gps, running, biking, and was great for golfing and even synced with my old s3.
Hopefully the next version of GEAR will be more rugged.
If I were sixteen I'd worry about damaging the Super sweet GEAR... Thus I'd recommend a rugged Pathfinder.

I agree, I have a tough solar G-shock and I love that thing. It's my end of the world watch. But if you can afford it, I think the Gear is pretty great.
Well, I'm also sixteen and I never take my Gear off (wear it to school, at home, etc). I highly recommend it to those who seek interest in it, however, I'm a programmer and find more uses for it than just telling time. If you want it and will find it useful, get it!

Do you think the gear was worth it? I was really looking forward to getting it with my Note 3, pebble and SW2 is just stooping too low for my standards, but i read something about an ohmate smartwatch or something? Is it better or are you still keeping your galaxy gear?
Ofcourse it was. Have a read of the threads here

The watch looks ugly! As a long term swype user I'm more interested by the software that nuance is putting on it
I had my doubts at first... although it really has become second nature to own a gear.
My rom aside, its a great handy tool.. it's more a luxury then a necessity, although a very nice one.
Having the ability to simply flick my wrist when a notification comes in to make a quick decision to ignore it or not doesn't sound like much, although if you receive as many as I do daily its a god sent. I have even found myself using the phone call features alot more then I originally thought..
I made my rom for further customization on the gear, mainly the use of custom widgets as clock faces.. if your into that kind of stuff there's a whole new world of possibility's. In saying that tho the stock/watchstyler faces are great, although they only kept me entertained for so long.
Overall, can you live without the gear.. sure you can.. could the gear be better ? sure it can.. Although for Samsungs first attempt for such a form factor I couldn't ask for much more without being greedy.. I'm really grateful my girl had bought me it, no regrets so far.
I will defiantly purchase the predecessor.
Let me try to provide you some insight here given that I have traveled the path you are now on. I too own a Note 3 an I purchased the Gear when it first came out. I kept it for 14 days and was so disgusted with its shortcomings that I parted with it once I learned that the Omata Smartwatch and Neptune Pine were coming out. However, I abandoned the Pine holdout after realizing how large the piece was and that it would be simply too large to wear on my risk. I walked away from the Omata after reading all of the posts from people who were complaining about the shoddy build and their failure to come up with a Companion application to allow the watch to act as a companion to the phone. Meaning your stuck with a sim card stand alone phone/watch that has a 1 and 1/2 inch screen as your dedicated phone. Go figure.
So, a friend of mine told me that I should go back to the Galaxy Gear but to customize it out by means of the XDA Developer Forum. I repurchased the Gear and then began teaching myself how to root and customize following the guidance provided by the forum members here. And trust me it was the best move I ever made!! First of all the build quality of the Gear is great. Samsung spared no expense in putting forth a superior piece of hardware. It was the software where the watch fell short. Well the guys here at XDA have over fixed that problem to the point that they have developed the watch to where it is a full-fledged mini-computer on your wrist. It is to the point that I find myself throughout the day relying on my Gear watch for notifications and emails more than my Note 3.
I most definitely wanted to purchase one of the other upcoming brand watches coming out. But I will tell you it is going to take some serious invention for another watch to top the heightened state that the XDA forum members have gotten the Gear watch too. They have really developed this thing to the point that all of the other smart watches, even those that are still in development and about to be released (Pine, Omata) are going to be playing catchup.
I am not saying all of this as a fan boy because I own the Gear. Like I said I actually got rid of my first one with the intent on buying something else. At this point I don't think there is anything out there that will come close. But don't get it twisted, that is not because of Samsung and their doing, because they rushed a product to market. This item is untouchable because of the hard work that the members of this forum have put in.
Try this. A lot of people who are not hip to XDA an the work they have put in to developing the software give up on the Gear and get rid of it like I did. Go out and purchase you a second hand Gear and then come on tho forum and customize the heck out of it and you will be leagues ahead of the other smart watches that will be playing catchup.
Sorry for the long post I truly wanted to address your question
If you have the money, then sure, it's a very nice aesthetically pleasing watch that does everything a full android microscopic-tablet will do.
I got mine for $140 and I wouldn't spend more than $150 for this. It's great, and it makes me feel like I'm always connected to my phone. So when at work and my phone is in the drawer, I don't have to periodically keep checking for updates which is super neat -- and easier for me than getting caught by my superiors.
I can only say, to each his own. Whether it's worth it to you can only be determined by one person... You!
In terms of aesthetics, some think it's ugly (santaclauswitz, for example lol)... Others think it looks great! (Myself and pretty much every person I run into who says "Ooohhhh! Is that that Samsung thingy?? Looks pretty cool! Show me what it can do!"
Some think it's an overpriced gizmo that can't do much. Others have found it to be worth every penny, and in the right hands (and with the right attitude) it's capabilities are only as limited as your imagination!
I for one am very pleased with this watch. I wasn't too sure at first. I hadn't worn a watch in a number of years and it felt weird having something strapped to my wrist. I was also I little disappointed by the lack of functionality coming out of the box, but thanks to fOmey, my watch is becoming more and more functional with each passing day. I've also gotten to accept the fact that I'm wearing a watch. I was always taking it off, adjusting the strap, fidgeting with it. But it feels very comfortable and natural on my wrist now.
In short... Do I think it's worth it?? Yes!! Am I happy with my investment?? You betcha!! Will I keep it?? Hmm... When the next generation is released its going to be pretty hard to not snap it up lol... But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it
Devices:
- Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900W8 on X-Note 7.0 (ML2) with Compulsion Kernel 6.0
- Galaxy Gear on null_18 (ML1)
Since we're not allowed to use our phones on my job, a rooted Gear comes in handy when I want to go on the internet.
Thanks guys! Definitely getting a Gear tomorrow with my $50 dollars discount at Rogers! What colour should i get? I have a black Note 3
I just returned mine.. Best buy. An hour ago before the Xmas deadline.
I might rebuy it if I can see it for $100 in clearance rack, but really want the gear 2, there will be more tech in a little package with gear2, and should be much lighter.
I'll wait the 3 months.
Must say... that I enjoyed it and like having the gear. Had fun in last two weeks. I got a lot of complements too.
I really expected a few more things from it for the $299 price tag.
More battery life
Gps
More memory
Better camera
Google integration.. Search
Maybe front camera or heart monitor?
Let's see what the spring will bring.

If the Gear 2 comes out at spring i might wait, but i doubt it. The Galaxy Gear is still pretty new, and i also doubt that they'll price it lower than the Pebble, maybe $200 clearance, maybe... but definitely not $100.
Not worth the current price tag. Maybe 150 at the most. Caught a deal on Craigslist for a note 3 and galaxy gear for $250. Gave the note 3 to my girl and I'm currently playing with the watch. Glad I don't pay full price. I would've probably returned it. Not enough features for the price.

I love mine and am happy I paid $299. Cheaper would have been great too, but as a repeat Early Adopter, I am used to this. Gear 2 has been announced by Samsung for about an April release, check these forums for more information on this. I think it is a good looking watch and also get asked often about it with a sense of awe and wonder from the asker, when I show them the watch faces, apps, and sideloaded movie and music player options. I use the notifications daily the same as many have stated, to keep up quickly with my incoming emails, messages and calendar reminders. Phone does work great too for me.
If you can wait for the Gear 2, then sure you should, but many of us will be right there in line with you to get it when it does come out.
I can't help but laugh wildly at the placement of the camera on the Omate. The only thing it'd be able to take a picture of is the top of my arm...

Plus with the Omata Smartwatch, your gonna get wrist hair in your pictures lol
compared to any released, or soon to be released smartwatches - galaxy gear owns them all. even the newest pebble that cost 250 usd is a joke..
i hated gear when i got it, and i also returned it due to terrible software side, but custom rom allowed me to customize it the way i like it. can't go back to any other smartwatch right now.

Today I got the Wild orange GG and looks wicked! Currently sideloading Nova Launcher and other apps onto my gear, it's like a cute mini tab for my wrist

Hi all...I'm looking to get a smart watch. I have been reading up a lot but still have more to go. This is the way I see it so far.
Original gear...can root and run a custom ROM.
Gear 2/neo. Can root but not much else at moment. I do like this one and the original. I like the fact you can reply to text and answer calls. Not sure how much support this will get.
Android wear. Seems to me to take full advantage you need to use Google now and I don't. I find it really drains my battery.
I'm still reading up on android vs tizen.
Am I looking at these the correct way? So far I prefer gear/gear 2 over android wear. Anyone have any input or correct anything I may have said that is wrong?

My thoughts are. You can buy a gear for $99 which i did it has a camera and i can answer phone calls with it.. what do i use it for? Well firstly as a watch second to see my calendar, step counter, i use as a phone dialer for me its quicker to find a contract and dial then pickup the phone rather than pickup phone unlock dial etc. I can't see myself talking into my watch just seems odd. As for Google wear more apps / better apps but twice the cost and not sure i can read exchange email on it.

I tend to agree with phil999, I have owned the original Gear since it rolled out. Answering calls on my watch has come in handy on a weekly basis. I don't usually initiate calls, but I am constantly grabbing a call when my phone is stuck in my pocket or sitting on my desk in another room. I use voice activation to both initiate and reply to text. Full exchange email viewing is great at work. For $99 you can not go wrong.
I was excited by the Android Wear watches as they were announce and info started leaking. Now that they are out and have initial reviews I am holding off on picking one up. I like the always on (this is a must in my opinion for a smart watch and sorely missing from the Gear), plus the way it integrates with Google Now. I myself don't use Google Now anymore as I did not get much value out of it, I know others do. There will certainly be a lot of Apps that start becoming AW capable, so I think in the next several months the list of apps will quickly outpace the relative meager list of apps we have for the Gear.
I dont know why Samsung did not just take the Gear 2 or Neo and turn it into the Live. I think the hardware (Camera/IR/Speaker) would have been a big hit for the AW platform. The way Sammy is pumping out smart watches it may be advisable to wait for the Live 2 as it will address feedback they receive on the Live 1.
So my advice is get something. $99 for a Gear 1 is a great way to experience your first smart watch. If you use and like Google Now, then grab a Gear Live. It does that slickly on your wrist and there is surely a ton of apps that will soon be compatible with it.

This is exactly what I did. I got a Gear 1 on SlickDeals (Refurb) for $99 and it just arrived yesterday. I will be honest though, it was HELL trying to get Tizen to connect to my Note 2 running Nebula but I finally got it running today. I really like Tizen even though it has less apps than Android. But be honest with yourself, how many apps are you going to use on a 2 inch screen? With Tizen you can check ALL your notifications as well as answer calls...plus take a quick picture...I can't tell you how many times something was happening & I wanted a pic of it but by the time I got my phone out it was too late.
I think $300 is too much for a smartwatch. I know some drop more than that on a regular watch, but considering you can get a high end phone on contract for less than that (or a Google phone for just over that) I think they are over priced.
First, decide what you plan on using the watch for. I bought mine on a whim when I saw the deal on SlickDeals. But I can see where it will come in handy now that I have it.

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to answer and give me your opinions. I greatly appreciate it. After reading I think your all right. I'm gonna look into the gear. I don't really use Google now at all. Tried for a few days. Didn't care for it and drained my battery. The main things i would like to do is receive notifications, reply to text, i guess with svoice, and i think answering calls would come in handy. I see the gear can also be rooted if I wanted to which I guess is a plus. I'm assuming most are running with stock TW? That will be the toughest thing..running TW. Been running custom ROMs forever. But sounds like it will be worth it.

If you want notifications you're going to have to update to Tizen. Stock, the Gear only let's you read notifications from the stock Samsung apps. So if you use Gmail or Handsent it will only let you know you have a message but you can't read it on the Gear. Tizen lets you choose what apps will notify you & you can read the notification on the watch...

I ran the Null Roms for a long time. Still miss the ability to run any launcher and customize everything, but I gave Tizen a shot about a month ago. I am happy with Tizen, functional, smooth, longer battery life, and it does what I need. With Null I could use the watch as a small full android device. I have come to realize that I want my watch to be an extension of android for notifications and convenience.
To be honest I have been wearing a Qualcomm Toq, I picked up on ebay for $100 for the past 3 weeks. I can voice respond to text, but with no speaker I cant answer calls on the watch. I can select answer call, but it answers on the phone (this does give me time to stand up and dig it out of my pocket). The always on and 4-5 day battery life plus wireless charging help to offset the one missing feature.
When one of the manufacturers puts a low power color display (Mirasol) on a Gear 1 / Gear 2 type hardware platform it will be the type of smart watch I am looking for.

I have been reading about Null and it does sound very cool. But after reading your response I think your right. I just want the watch the be an extension. The only draw back i guess is your kind of stuck with certain Samsung phones. I was reading a thread about getting it to work with other devices but seemed to be hit and miss. Im gonna go check out the watches again. If I was able to get the watch to work with a custom ROM and still have the features I need it would be a huge plus. Maybe I'll grab one and try it out.
