[KERNEL][CM][KK] Guru - Nexus S Android Development

Announcement: On 10 June 2015 I discontinued the project as my Nexus S is broken and I don't own it anymore
Take the latest CyanogenMod boot files ("device" and "kernel"), add cherry picked mods and build it following the CM guidelines. This is Guru.
This is NOT: A bloated kernel with dozens of randomly picked mods and then compiled with an exotic toolchain.
CyanogenMod-only
Based on CM 11 M10

Yes, there are no changes to I/O schedulers etc. it's the same as the stock CM 11 M7 kernel.

I can use it on 4.4.3 nightly ?

There have been some minor changes to the kernel since CM 11.0 M7 has been released (see June commits: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_kernel_samsung_crespo/commits/cm-11.0) and I just tested the compiled build on CM 11.0 M7, however I think it should work fine. Before you try to flash it on a 4.4.3 nightly, do a full backup from CWM.

Yes, MTP support and the "bigmem" patch are the main reasons for which I started this project. I could use kernels like Devil or Marmite (for Nexus S), but they are discontinued projects and they are not in sync with the latest CyanogenMod commits. I just wanted a clean and updated CM kernel with the features I missed.

It does not boot on MIUI_Polymorph's MIUI v5 (Which I assume is Sammy Based with a CM10 Base Rom)
It functions fully on CM 10.1 except mounting (mentioned in op)
I did not test anything else.

Curent versions of _miui.polimorph_ are CM10 (4.1.x) based. This kernel is for CM10.1 (4.2.x). That might be one reason for not booting.
@psndna: By the way, is there any possibility to also make this compatible with CM10?
Re: [KERNEL][4.2.x]PSN>> AGNi pureKERNEL (siyah-based) TESTING STAGE
cm 4.2.2 looks good with this kernel but boot sucessful with sammy 4.1.2 rom?

thanks for the kernel.. works great as im able to overclock and use previous siyah's kernel settings again.. just worth noting, there seems to be an issue with the backlight buttons as they stay enabled even when disabling the option in advanced menu..
(CM10.1 4.2.2)
Re: [KERNEL][4.2.x]PSN>> AGNi pureKERNEL (siyah-based) TESTING STAGE
Polimorph, the kernel is described to be based on Siyah sources and only improved for latest CM10.1 meaning it is multiboot.
Siyah supports Sammy 4.1.1-4.1.2 and CM10/10.1

Awesome work, thanks!
I've always said that a Multi-Boot kernel (even if its only for CM roms) is very important.
BTW, have any benchmarks about the new Mali drivers? What's the big difference?
Thanks PSN!

Re: [KERNEL][4.2.x]PSN>> AGNi pureKERNEL (siyah-based) TESTING STAGE
I'm yet to test on Sammy 4.2.1 ....
I'm in process of applying changes to siyah initramfs structure in code where it applies rom-type specific initramfs...
Info: as this kernel has new Mali drivers... It will work only in ROMs using kernels with new Mali drivers. Old Mali roms will not work.

You must know about android build(?)
First you can use this toolchain by adding cfx's 4.8 toolchain to manifests/deafult.xml
Second sync the rom again and settings up build system as 4.8
and then just build it (if you have any problems, then you must fix it :laugh

Why WiFi doesn't work in "N" mode.?
I mean that there is only 54Mb instead of 150Mb for a WiFi Connection, and doesn't want to connect to an AP which is set to N mode only.
Why.?
is it the "Kernel Thing".? (Current : TESCO 2.9++)
or ROM.? (I'm on CyanVivo 10.1 #06.26)

my full path in .bashrc is "export CROSS_COMPILE=~/android/kernel/toolchains/arm-gnueabi-linaro-4.8.2-2013.07/bin/arm-gnueabi-"
I used it for a month ,kernel which I built could be used in old version of CyanVivo but my new built kernel can't be used with latest version of CyanVivo .
I think it isn't the cause of this issue.
this Kernel does not support FSTRIM (Lagfix) Anyway to add that support here?

my full path in .bashrc is "export CROSS_COMPILE=~/android/kernel/toolchains/arm-gnueabi-linaro-4.8.2-2013.07/bin/arm-gnueabi-"
I used it for a month ,kernel which I built could be used in old version of CyanVivo but my new built kernel can't be used with latest version of CyanVivo .
I think it isn't the cause of this issue.

Why do you need that :-\
Its a ROM problem, you have to mount your system with root permissions and everything

My device detail:
Rom svhd v1.7.5
Kernel: redux 0.8 / kangaroo v 17
S- off
Radio: 3831.18.00.11_M
I tried to flash it from fastboot also... Still it stuck on boot animation.
Sorry! I forget... It's an AOSP kernel... Thanks AndyYan for remembering...

Title says "AOSP only". And SVHD is not. Kangaroo is the kernel to stay.
Don't tell me that after you hang out on XDA so much, you still mistake Sense for AOSP...

May someone try this kernel https://www.dropbox.com/s/w1lh50qc515xuqc/SZmodKernel_20130807.zip , it's fully compatible with TESCO 2.9++ .
I used TESCO 2.9++ as base and change memory allocate from SLUB to SLQB ,set BSD process accounting.
Compacache compress method from GZ to LZO .
I want feedback for this, better or not , or nothing different .

Hi ! First, I would like to say a big THANKS for this new ROM ! That seems great !
Nevertheless, I have a few questions to the DEV before testing it :
- Is this ROM built from latest LX sources ? I mean, is it based on mikeioannina 20140718 build or does it include the newer changes made by him ?
- Did you modify the kernel made by Vynikal ? Because the last updated version (from yesterday) has 423MB for userspace, and video recording preview seems to be working fine with it.
A little one for the testers :
- Does the flash sync issue fixed here like in Spirit build ?
Thanks again.
Cheers.

Yes the current latest build is based on mikes sources of 20140718
I didn't modify vynikals sources
Video Preview and flash sync are known atm.
Although I have holidays soon so I'll build up an update on latest sources acc to which most things should be fixed
