Heya all quick question, will the root process for the AT&T S5 work for the S5 Active as well? I just picked it up yesterday, so hoping that it's a yes.
The people in the thread say yes

My questions is, are the ROM's the same? if not I might stay clear and just put a better case on it

They are different models, so the roms probably won't be the same. There isn't the ability to use a custom recovery yet, so you can't flash a Rom anyway.

@Hashcode could do a SafeStrap for s5's and s5 Actives soon.
If we put up a bounty for it, he is more than capable of doing it.
He might even do it without that.
We can all just take care of him like Geohot is getting taken care of.
Geohot came out with a root for S5, it worked on my ATT S5 Active. From download to reboot and verify....40 seconds max.

Nope....Just could not sign in to google to retrieve my contacts etc....I have all of them back now. I had to clear app data on all google apps/frameworks......iPhone. LOL Havent had one of those since the 3GS. You couldn't pay me to go back to apple.
I know how to work Android, believe me my phone is tricked out!!! Just had an issue with google after rooting. All good now.

Nope. When they check up, it's usually just the IMEI. They ask what you're using (KB1, JH7...) but they assume most don't even know what that means or where to find that info.
I recently have called them from my phone and they didn't mention anything about it not being stock. When I look at my account online from my computer it still shows the captivate.

I'd be careful with Cyanogen though. When I flashed Cyanogen, I received an e-mail from Google saying "Welcome to Nexus S!". I didn't check, but I wouldn't be surprised as AT&T started listing my number online as a Nexus S or some other random Android phone that isn't the Captivate.
In fact, that same question occurred to me today, because I'm running Cyanogen on my HTC Inspire and I need to dial in so they can set up my Voicemail (for some reason, whenever I switch phones my voicemail gets screwed up).

Are you sure you got it on cyanogen, and not on supercurios port? Because the cm rom has correct model numbers, where as supercurios port is a direct rip from the Nexus S.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
The email you receive is not from at&t and is just because the rom uses nexus s market foot print.
Sent from my Captivate using XDA Premium App
The answer is almost certainly no. There is a capability using device management tools to report back ROM details but right now the care reps don't have any access to it or any procedures that use it. They don't even have access to your IMEI so don't worry about custom ROMs unless you are physically returning the device.

What's more, based on my experiences with the Customer Service reps, most of them wouldn't care. The Front Office might, if you had to send in your phone, but every CS rep I've ever talked to has been mighty laid-back about the "rules."

I realize that. But because of the fact that it uses the Nexus S market footprint, it would also (logically) use the same Nexus S footprint over the AT&T network. Otherwise, what you said makes no sense.

Oh gosh that is so far from wrong it's not funny. "Care reps", otherwise known as technicians who fix your problems have every right to access your IMEI number without your consent. Your phone's IMEI is stored by AT&T as a ref number, and can be accessed from the AT&T database at any given time, even by the technicians.

There is an IMEI record for the device you purchased NOT what you are actually using on the network. There is also a TAC reference collected by OTA whenever the SIM goes into a new device, but the care reps (industry standard term, btw) have no scripts using it as far as I know. For example, AT&T still reports me as having a Bold 9700 on my 1st line when it has actually been a Cappy since August. Bottom line, AT&T generally doesn't give a crap what device you use.

Happened to me....I never used supercurios...only CM7.
Fot the OP I doubt they can tell....even less they don't care. I used the sim from an old Sony dumb phone in my old unlocked Nokia N79...and used an unlimited data plan for $15 and tethered.
So yeah, don't worry.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled. No issues here. Also, I believe it does need data as payment info is stored in the cloud instead of the device itself.

I tried to use wallet on my phone in a store the other day and in the middle of authentication I lost signal and had to start over. How about networks other than Sprint and AT&T?
Does anybody know if this works on T-Mobile or other "blocked" networks?
Currently I am running the version patched by MoDaCo (1.1-R63-v12 See this thread) on my T-Mobile Nexus S. Unfortunately, this revision doesn't implement the new functionality to use cards other than Mastercard.
Does anyone know if the new apk still contains the device and carrier checks? If so then us T-Mobile people will still need a patched version.
yes it does contain the device/carrier checks... though you could always just try... instead of waiting for an answer... you would have known 5 minutes ago...
I just successfully installed it on my rooted T-Mobile Nexus S. Everything seems to be working fine. That Unsupported Device banner at the top is still there though. I haven't gone out to test it at a payment terminal yet.

Anyone know how to get past this?
Installed on my VZN Nexus with the little banner due to I'm rooted and it seems to work just fine. Let me register, etc. I just have not tried it out at a store yet. We don't have to many places that accept it (or I just don't but a few).

Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for this http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s6_is_receiving_a_new_502_ota_in_europe-news-12195.php
The way the us carriers operate, who knows we might not see it. we can only hope samsung is putting pressure on the carriers to push the updates faster and more frequent.
Yea, I'd be surprised if we see this before 5.1.1. Tmobile already showed their hand with the leak for the edge.
Not sure about the US variants but the Canadian ones are identical and has a CSC folder and subfolders for all the Canadian carriers including small provincial ones. The carriers don't even need to touch it cause the bloat is already in those subfolders and gets installed based on the network it connects to!
The only delay would be if the carriers are the ones responsible for hosting the OTA servers!

I might be wrong but I think tmobile decided to skip this update and go right for 5.1.1. If that is the case hopefully we will have a bug free build because they sunk all their time into it. Plus we would see 5.1.1 before any other s6 by probably a month Or more. Personally I hope that is the case, android L is just too buggy on anything under 5.1.1 To make updating worth the time.
I do hope we get an update soon, I'm tired of using the Digitally Imported App in my car, getting out to shop at a grocery store, then getting back into my car only to have the Samsung "Over The Horizon" music start to play because I haven't loaded any other music on my phone. I then have to restart the DI App, and start the radio station again because the App was closed by the phone earlier while I was grocery shopping...
How it's supposed to work is when I get back in my car, the radio station automatically unpauses since the App is still loaded in memory and the phone knows it was last playing music from that App.

If this is not the case, I concur with @marcushesketh1991 in that it might indeed be your carrier network.

No, everything was changed and sometimes apps would update but it became so much of an issue I had to return it. Even WiFi didn't work. I have unlimited so wifi isn't even an issue for me or a viable option for data.
My note 8 will not download system updates over data. Nothing can be done it seems.
