Stock Rom 4.2.2 update to 4.3 = brick - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put stock back on my phone "Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.771.3.zip" which I have done before without any problem.
Stock rom flashed fine, boots up fine and start reinstalling apps etc, OTA firmware starts downloading sense 5.5 etc
Install OTA update and then restart then phone just shows white background with htc logo then bootloops.
Tried going into recovery, restarting, power down, factory reset etc, doesn't work so I do fastboot oem relock to see if it helps.
So basically it's boot looping and now I have no idea how to fix it
EDIT: - I Wiped, reinstalled stock rom and tried again, SAME PROBLEM.

Hey guys I'll try and keep it short and sweet.
So here's what happened.
I installed android revolution HD 71.1 no problems, notice mobile signal is weak 1-2 bars I normally have 4-5 so I searched and someone said maybe firmware is not up to date.
So I wipe the rom and put stock back on there "Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.771.3.zip" which I have done before without any problem.

If you can flash and access custom recovery, adb push or adb sideload a custom rom..

thanks, I'm making progress, I unlocked the bootloader again and am reflashing the stock firmware...

I flashed stock firmware and stock recovery and downloaded and installed the OTA update and it's doing the same thing!! why?
Just bootlooping

Links to stock firmware and stock recovery?
Maybe something is wrong with the phone??
Your best start will be to flash a custom recovery and then flash a custom rom. What is the output of your fastboot getvar all ? (remove IMEI)

He is using this correct ?: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-771-3-zip/
He is having exactly the same problem as someone I was trying to help out who is having exactly the same issue and may join in this thread.
The guru reset puts them on 4.2.2 which works fine then they get a small OTA which installs fine, then a big update to 4.3 which installs, but upon restart for some reason gives a boot loop, doesn't get past the HTC quietly brilliant logo, im at a loss.

Yes... You have 1.57 HBOOT.. you should NOT be using 2.x.771.x files. It does NOT gel well.
You have to stick with custom roms, just use adb push or adb sideload..

Well you could try flashing twrp 2.6.3.3 and then flash that ROM your interested in, but it could make things worse, you have a very strange problem, I would love to know why custom rom's work and the guru-reset file, but the OTA's pretty much kill your phone.

Okay, well I don't know a lot about all this stuff, for example I don't know what HBOOT is, S-OFF/ON etc, I just look for ROMs I'm interested in, optimizing my phone, I just read guides and 99% of the time I don't have a problem.
Do you think my problem would go away if I had HBOOT 1.55? Is it even possible to downgrade?
I'll just flash the ROM I mentioned...but doesn't that mean I won't be able to get OTA updates? (because of the nonstock recovery)
IDFK

Don't know why your HBOOT is 1:57 while your device is not OTA to Sense 6.0. Certainly you can't downgrage HBOOT to 1:55 without S-OFF. You should flash TWRP 2.6.3.3, then adb sileload a custom rom to install

I just wiped and put android revolution hd 71.1 on there and it seems fine now, the other stock rom I mentioned earlier I flashed and I kept getting errors "unfortunately updater has stopped working" every 3 minutes.
I had a go at S-OFF with rumrunner but it didn't work on two ROMs, someone said to try it on linux as it's more reliable, any suggestions for how I can easily S-OFF? thanks :good:

[Q] HTC One unlocked, tampered, S-ON and custom recovery - Can I do OTA

Hi,
I have an HTC One PN07120. It is unlocked, tampered S-ON, has custom recovery installed, and is running AT&T 4.3 JellyBean stock.
In a few days Sense 6.0 OTA update will become available for my device, so I was wondering if I can just normally run the setup and update my system or I have to relock my device or something?

You should be fully stock, including recovery, before taking an OTA, except that you can (and should) stay s-off and unlocked. You may not even get the OTA otherwise.
So I think I have found the stock recovery needed for my device. Now there is a small problem, I have 2 stock recovery files for my device and I do not know wich one to choose because when I typed "fastboot getvar all" I didn't find any information at "version main", just blank space. How should I know wich one to pick?

did you change radio?
hboot 1.55 + MID + CID would indicate you are on 3.xx.502.x version
so i guess: http://d-h.st/D8F or http://d-h.st/6bH would be a suitable recovery, but you need to have your phone's ROM 100% stock

Well, the guy who fixed my phone from a bootloop and bricked state said he has done the s-off, found a suitable stock RUU and installed, then he put S-ON back and unlocked bootloader if I decide to do any mods in the future.

1- If you are 100% stock then Settings -> About should also show your correct version number
2- you rooted the phone, so that may or may not have changed some system files, so OTA may not work
3- once S-Off stay S-Off, my personal opinion
In my humble opinion, three choices really, when it comes to "modding" or not your phone:
A) stay stock and don't mess with it to get OTAs
B) you cannot achieve S-OFF (due to newer hboots, or device problems) -> fine live with an unlocked bootloader, and accept the fact that you cannot install OTAs .... you can however "download and install later" the OTA, then pull it to your phone, and use the signed firmware.zip in it
C) you can achieve S-OFF and want to mod your phone -> then do it, get S-Off and enjoy the freedom (but don't flash things not meant for your phone!! this goes for S-On too)
Of course you're going to say that "but S-Off is dangerous", it's a double edged sword... sometimes you are able save your phone thanks to S-Off, and sometimes you can brick it completely.
But then again, you can easily brick an S-On phone too (especially one that is modded), and much more difficult to save than an S-Off phone.
^^ All that is my personal opinion, and I'm not suggesting you S-Off, but if you want to mod your phone (whether S-On or S-Off), you need to be aware of what may, or may not, go wrong, and have done some reading and research
Good Luck
Well, its not worth it. I wont risk bricking my phone again

That's a tough one... cause even if you manage to pull out the cable, at exactly the right (ie wrong) moment while flashing recovery, it wouldn't affect bootloader... and with a good bootloader (hboot, and some other variables) you should be able to revive your phone.... now mess with hboot, and that's a whole different story!!
As I said, this is my personal opinion, so maybe get some second opinions on the subject... I can only answer on what i've done, seen, experienced, fixed, not fixed, etc.
Maybe someone wiser will add his/her opinion to this

I just can't seem to find a stock Rom. I'm happy with the HTC stock Rom the only reason I rooted was to try some HTC one m8 features that could be installed on a rooted m7 phone. I never managed to even try it. Bit stuck because I don't have win 7 , Linux or a Mac os.
Is there nothing I can do at all other than use custom roms? I apologise if I'm being a bit stupid.

if you want an HTC OTA update: unroot, stock recovery, stock ROM, S-On
you still recieve an OTA update, download it, but you can't flash it to your current ROM. this is happen if you flash a GPE ROM too.
the other custom ROM let you have an OTA update, download it, and flash it. but remember, the OTA is custom ROM updated version from the ROM developer. that's not from HTC

S-ON and root has nooting to do with OTA updates. Only stock recovery and unmodified /system and /data/preload files matters.
@real slim shady @abhishek0704
Even if the OP flash the stock recovery back, there are high chances he will not be able to install the ota update due to /data/preload being wiped when unlocking bootloader. Flashing stock recovery takes like 1 minute to do, so yes it worth a try, bt don't be surprised if the ota install fail.
Sorry for hijacking post but i've got the same problem.
I flashed stock recovery onto my rooted htc one m7 which also had TWRP recovery.
Boots up normally, downloaded the OTA but it fails to install when it reaches middle of the install bar.
What should I do to get back to complete stock rom and be able to install OTA's?
edit: Also when i try to get into stock recovery menu it writes "can not mount SD Card. ( No such file or directory)" and "I:Write host_mode:0 done" but somehow it loads recovery menu but if i choose some option it restarts the phone.

to get over the air update your phone must be stock never unlocked. you can RUU back to stock if theirs a RUU for your phone or you can install stock recovery and the missing files from unlocking the bootloader.
Most times it's much easier to just use TWRP and flash the latest stock rooted rom and not worry about OTA updates
This is where you are now

[Q] My HTC One is bricked!!!! please HELP

Hello everyone. It is my first time on this forum, so please be patient.
On Saturday I received my new HTC One 802d dual sim. Following in the steps of this and other forums I could root it and unlock the bootloader.
Then I wanted to get S-Off for putting on a new ROM but while the Moonshine was running, in one of the many resets, the phone can't start the OS (obviously cmd window showed an error).
From there on I tried a myriad of things but with no success. I could not find the original RUU to flash it either.
I am truly desperate!!!! can anyone help ???
I leave data from my HTC One:

You might want to remove your meid from your first post.
Assuming you have a custom recovery installed, you might try to install Maximus HD for dual sim. I found these instructions in his other thread for the single sim rom. Why don't you think you have a rom installed? Are you stuck in bootloader? You can follow these instructions by alray but you must use a custom recovery for your variant and the Maximus HD rom for your variant.
If you get the rom installed and working, I would try rumrunner S-OFF, since you have a lower hboot. Since you have such a unique phone, I would make nandroid backups to I could recover from issues easier. I hope it helps.

Thank you very much!!!! I'll try to flash Maximus HD, but I have a few questions:
The phone has to be unlocked?
What would be the details to consider the rom to choose?
Thanks!!!!

Thanks!!!!

Yesterday I could finally install the maximushd 1.0 as the 3.0 but in both cases when phone restarted, it made a boot loop again. Might be corrupt the hboot? There is way to fix it? another idea? Thank you

This is a long shot but first I would try to flash the stock firmware 4.22.707.3. You will need to lock your bootloader first. This firmware will wipe your personnal data from the phone.
First, download the firmware file and rename it firmware.zip and place in your adb/fastboot folder.
Second, relock you phone using this command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Third, use the following procedure to flash the stock firmware to your phone:
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After that, type:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU [/I][/B]
NOTE: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
NOTE: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Finally:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
Repeat the same command: IMPORTANT
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
NOTE: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Last Step:
Code:
fastboot reboot

Thanks is enough for helping you out.
Wifi might be a software issue, with the new firmware you got the latest radio for your phone. If you still have the stock rom installed you could try the OTA update? If the rom is stock and the recovery is stock you could rename (to shorten it) and move the OTA to your sdcard. When it is on your sdcard, follow these steps for installing the OTA manually. It may or may not run, but if it fails it will tell you why it failed and maybe we can fix it.

No, there is no stock rom for your phone! So, you can not go back to stock to get the OTA. Make a nandroid backup while in recovery and save it to your computer should something go amiss in the future. Glad to see you are back up and running.
Go to your first post and edit the title with "[Solved]".

What specifically is wrong with wifi?
Are you getting data?
Does SMS/MMS work?
No issues with calls?
Have you tried rebooting the phone?

Yes, I have restarted the phone twice but no Wifi on when I touch the button. Nor have 3G / H + data.
Calls and SMS work fine.
Should I reinstall ROM?

Yes, re-install the ROM and while in recovery wipe cache/dalvik. And check your APN settings against the APN settings for your carrier.

Hi friend, i'm here again.
I had to reflash my phone with help from llabtoofer.com
We were able to fix the Wifi but the phone does not work on 3G network... only on EDGE.
Could be a problem with the Firmware or with the Radio?
I just called the telephone's company and they said that APN configuration was ok. If you want, I can send you a copy.
I'm in Argentina, Latin America.... perhaps the ROM installed is from Europe or perhaps is not compatible with my M7C_DWG.
Can you help me one more time?
Thanks.... I will waiting.

An earlier post stated that you had MaximusHD 3.0 installed. According to the website it doesn't support your phone! However, your software information has just the stock rom not MaximusHD 3.0. I don't thing there is an RUU for your phone so if you can find someone with a nandroid backup that you could use it would help. If you could get the stock firmware and flash it. Sorry, I'm not much help.

[Q] urgent help please

Hi, really need some help as i have no clue whats happening, installed Lollipop update on my htc one tonight, when it went to start up it got stuck at htc one screen, tried rebooting several times with no change, the phone was previously unlocked, rooted and had a custom rom installed, but i did the stock RUU, which relocked the phone and allowed me to do OTA back to Kitkat 4.4.3. I can get into the bootloader which shows *Tampered* (i know that one) but underneath its saying *Unlocked* ? please help

I would say, try again, start again, its possible that the Lollipop update has got a bit corrupt along the way somewhere, maybe the download, thankfully your only soft bricked, you will need to get back to the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and then push that guru reset to your internal SDCard and flash it again, very strange that all of the KK updates worked fine but the LP one bricked you.
Before you do try that, have you tried a factory reset from the bootloader ?
Damn, hang on, the firmware part of the LP update seems to have worked fine, I can see thats all updated, you probably wont beable to use the guru reset again due to HBOOT conflicts.

try the factory reset first, if that doesnt work, as you have the newer firmware on your phone already, I would flash a custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.4.0) and then flash this rom, its basically stock Lollipop with future OTA ability.

This is very strange, im tempted to say try and relock the bootloader first and then try and boot, but im worried that if it still doesnt boot you may not be able to unlock the bootloader again, then you'll be right up the creek without a paddle.

[Q] Unable to go STOCK or flash other ROMs, adb shows device as offline

Hello xda members.
I'm having some trouble with my device, I did search around this past week but still didnt success in fixing it, hope someone can point me in the right direction.
So I was S-ON with 4.3 - 4.4 on ViperOne for a long time, most of the things worked fine but my 3G was a bit slow/disconnected from time to time.
I though giving a shot to a Lollipop version Sky Dragon. I downloaded and installed Sky Dragon and used it fine for some months, but then when I wanted to use Android Studio for a project my device was not recognized. I manually run adb devices and it would not show my device (debuggin on), tried some search on google but without success.
I though moving back to ViperOne / ARHD (I really missed SENSE) would solve my problem, so downloaded the rom and tried to install but it would always stuck in "formatting partition" process.
I manually put my device in fastboot and run getvar all which resulted in BLANK version-main, very strange.
I did some search but had only few similar cases, I tried to go to STOCK by re-lockocking bootloader, flashing stock firmware but the RUU.exe would always stop at 5% and show "fastboot_htc.exe has stopped working", again did some research but could not find a solution.
When I try to flash custom firmware through fastboot flash zip I will always get "(bootloader) Read zipped android_info fail FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)".
I then found a tool to write a version-main into the emmc and after flashing it in TWRP I got a 1.00.000.0 version-main. Tried all of above again with the same results. My device will be recognised as "offline" in adb devices.
Luckily I have some backups (viperone 4.3 and skydragon) that work fine except that I cant update and cant connect via adb.
I have outputted my getvar all, let me know if you need further info for my case.

I though moving back to ViperOne / ARHD (I really missed SENSE) would solve my problem, so downloaded the rom and tried to install but it would always stuck in "formatting partition" process.

What recovery version is installed on the phone?
I manually put my device in fastboot and run getvar all which resulted in BLANK version-main, very strange.

Not really, its a normal issue everyone get when using some twrp versions.
I did some search but had only few similar cases, I tried to go to STOCK by re-lockocking bootloader, flashing stock firmware but the RUU.exe would always stop at 5% and show "fastboot_htc.exe has stopped working", again did some research but could not find a solution.

Make sure to uninstall HTC Sync from your computer. Keep the drivers installed but uninstall HTC Sync. You are not giving any info about what ruu you are trying to flash but afaik, there is none you can use for this phone with s-on.
When I try to flash custom firmware through fastboot flash zip I will always get "(bootloader) Read zipped android_info fail FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)".

You can not flash custom firmware when S-ON...
I then found a tool to write a version-main into the emmc and after flashing it in TWRP I got a 1.00.000.0 version-main. Tried all of above again with the same results. My device will be recognised as "offline" in adb devices.

Having the version-main blank is not an issue preventing your phone to work properly, its only an aesthetic issue. The version-main can be restored by flashed the stock firmware back.

I found from my CID that this might be compatible RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_Rogers_WWE_4.19.631.9_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_351317_signed_2.exe

So should I go S-OFF before? I'm not sure if I can downgrade and S-OFF in the current condition.

And latest HTC drivers? Your phone should be visible from "my computer" when booted in twrp 2.8.5.0 cause twrp now have mtp support.
Code:
I found from my CID that this might be compatible RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_Rogers_WWE_4.19.631.9_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_351317_signed_2.exe
Not with s-on. 4.19.631.9 is a downgrade, you need s-off to downgrade.

You can go s-off using sunshine s-off but it cost 25$ or you can flash other roms by fixing your adb issues.
