I keep getting a system update message but every time I try to update it just fails.
Is there a way I can update?

Can I go back to stock using a Windows 8.1 machine? I just checked the guide in your signature and it says use Windows 7. Or is there a Rom for 4.4.3 I can flash? I cannot find anything using Google.

if you want to go back to stock, better to use a windows 7. linux or macos computer not win 8,1. There is many 4.4.3 roms availabe. look in the android development section of this forum. You could try arhd 71.1

Thanks.
I just can't seem to find a stock Rom. I'm happy with the HTC stock Rom the only reason I rooted was to try some HTC one m8 features that could be installed on a rooted m7 phone. I never managed to even try it. Bit stuck because I don't have win 7 , Linux or a Mac os.
Is there nothing I can do at all other than use custom roms? I apologise if I'm being a bit stupid.

Try arhd 71.1 it's like a stock rom with extra tweaks you can enable or not

I think I am just going to leave it. There's no point using ARHD as it is the same 4.4.2 that I have. I only wanted to do the stock update to 4.4.3.
Is there a way I can hide the system update prompt?

Thanks. I've looked into it and I have Windows 8.1 and the ruu has known issues with 8.1
Dude just download stock recovery and flash it using fastboot mode...then download ota and let it upgrade...and if u have bootloader 1.5x then there will be no problem in flashing stock recovery in fastboot mode with win 8.1..just flash stock recovery not the whole ruu
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
That's exactly what I did.
if you want an HTC OTA update: unroot, stock recovery, stock ROM, S-On
you still recieve an OTA update, download it, but you can't flash it to your current ROM. this is happen if you flash a GPE ROM too.
the other custom ROM let you have an OTA update, download it, and flash it. but remember, the OTA is custom ROM updated version from the ROM developer. that's not from HTC

S-ON and root has nooting to do with OTA updates. Only stock recovery and unmodified /system and /data/preload files matters.
@real slim shady @abhishek0704
Even if the OP flash the stock recovery back, there are high chances he will not be able to install the ota update due to /data/preload being wiped when unlocking bootloader. Flashing stock recovery takes like 1 minute to do, so yes it worth a try, bt don't be surprised if the ota install fail.
Sorry for hijacking post but i've got the same problem.
I flashed stock recovery onto my rooted htc one m7 which also had TWRP recovery.
Boots up normally, downloaded the OTA but it fails to install when it reaches middle of the install bar.
What should I do to get back to complete stock rom and be able to install OTA's?
edit: Also when i try to get into stock recovery menu it writes "can not mount SD Card. ( No such file or directory)" and "I:Write host_mode:0 done" but somehow it loads recovery menu but if i choose some option it restarts the phone.

to get over the air update your phone must be stock never unlocked. you can RUU back to stock if theirs a RUU for your phone or you can install stock recovery and the missing files from unlocking the bootloader.
Most times it's much easier to just use TWRP and flash the latest stock rooted rom and not worry about OTA updates
This is where you are now

I would like to get the htc back to complete stock, no root and etc. Rooted it month ago and still haven't used any root-required apps.

Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new to whole rooting and stuff so excuse me for my probably noob and dumb questions..
I own a HTC One for a year now I believe, and I wanted to give the rooting thing a try.
So I unlocked my One, and installed a custom recovery (TWRP).
I didn't do alot with it, had a stock version af android with sense, no custom roms or anything, only used root acces for the cerberus app.
The other day HTC released a new version af the stock software, I believe 4.19.401.11.
Since I'm not doing anything with the unlocked phone I want to get it back to stock again.
I am on android 4.4 with sense 5.5 now, android version 4.19.401.9, hboot 1.56

I found this guide to get back to stock: http://www.htc1guru.com/guides/return-stock-guide/
There it works with S-off, with rumrunner to get s-off but I read that rumrunner wont work with hboot 1.56, sadly I have 1.56..
In that guide you have to get s-off, downgrade to another hboot (1.44) and use a RUU with android version 1.28 or 1.29 to go to stock again.
But, in another topic I found this:

That is an RUU for exactly my phone I believe.
So now my question: Can I run that RUU, in the way that is written in the htc1guru return to stock guide (via fastboot) and go back to stock again? With a (re)locked bootloader, and receive OTA updates again?
I hope my question and all the information I have given is clear! If not feel free to ask me below!

You are still essentially stock, you will only need to flash the stock recovery from 4.19.401.9 , unfortunately I did a quick google and couldn't fine one. If you have the OTA or ruu you can extract the recovery.img to use. unlocked bootloader and root is fine. Then when the version .11 is released by your carrier you will be able to install.

Hi mb_guy, i have a twrp backup which i can restore, which could allow me to return to stock with superuser root access.
If i flash a stock recovery, will it remove my root access and receive future OTA? (if i am not mistaken, i tried flashing the stock recovery, and relocked the bootloader, but i just can't remove the superuser app :crying: )

I found a guide to extract the rom.zip from a RUU file, but it wont work for me. Can someone extract the rom.zip file for me and upload it here?
Only flashing the recovery file sounds like loads easyer than the entire guide i found by htc1guru.
And what if i want to re-lock the bootloader and get rid of root? Can i do that too?

You don't want rom.zip you want recovery.img it's likely in the firmware folder. You should be able to unroot from twrp. You can re lock the boot loader, but it will say relocked, I would just leave it unlocked.

Ok it's easy
Retry run that ruu exe file goto temp folder in c-Windows- user- app data - local - temp find in some folders you will get it but it's not worth it as it's encrypted so next time you will ask how to decrypt it
So better Google HTC One stock recovery download it flash it
2 if you want unroot mostly super user or rooting apps have methods in their settings try them
3 locking boot loader is last step after recovery flash
Unlocked bootloader not prevent future OTA
So no need for relock bootloader
OTA need stock recovery + unmodified system

You can't get the recovery from the rom.zip as the zip is encrypted.
I downloaded the 4.19.401.9 firmware.zip and extracted the recovery from it.
Here is the recovery : http://sourceforge.net/projects/htcone/files/Recovery/4.19.401.9/recovery.img/download
Now you have two options:
With the RUU that you have
1. relocked the bootloader
2. run the RUU to go back to stock
3. do the OTA
With the recovery only
1. fastboot flash the recovery
2. not necessary to remove the SuperSU (but you will lose root after OTA)
3. or remove root (open the SuperSU app, - settings - scroll down - select Full unroot if you think it's better to remove it before OTA
4. do the OTA
Remove root by flashing stock firmware
Hi guys, i did some searching and found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659

So my question is, if i restore my phone to the rooted stock state > relock the bootloader > flash in the stock firmware, in theory it should return the phone to stock state right? just to confirm if the above thread works for the HTC One
Thanks.

Thank you very much!
When I unlocked, rooted and installed the TWRP recovery I lost the stock flashlight app and calculator app and some others.
With the RUU i will get them back i think, with the other option, flashing recovery it wont return right? And after the OTA?
Is there any risk in running that RUU?

You should have said this earlier. When you lost the some apps that reside in data/preload folder means you don't already have a proper stock, OTA most probably will be a fail attempt.
Flashing the recovery alone cannot guarantee a successful OTA update due to those missing apps.
The best option that you have is run the RUU unless you can find any nandroid backup for the current ROM.
For me, I will choose to run the RUU as that is always the best option when it is the right RUU for your device.
Make a backup to PC all your storage content in case you lose them by running the RUU (but unlikely you will lose them)
With the RUU ... the procedure is :
1- in fastboot mode - relock the bootloader : run command fastboot oem lock
2- in fastboot mode - flash/run/double click the RUU; follow the updater instruction - next, update, bla, bla, bla until it finish

If it is the firmware.zip alone, no .. it won't remove your root app.
When people say stock firmware it is always mean stock ROM.
To remove root, just simply select Full unroot in SuperSU settings. (asumming your rooting app is SuperSU as shown in that thread).
Thanks everyone for their help!
Everything worked fine, I'm back to stock now and just updated the OTA !
I put stock back on my phone "Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.771.3.zip" which I have done before without any problem.
Stock rom flashed fine, boots up fine and start reinstalling apps etc, OTA firmware starts downloading sense 5.5 etc
Install OTA update and then restart then phone just shows white background with htc logo then bootloops.
Tried going into recovery, restarting, power down, factory reset etc, doesn't work so I do fastboot oem relock to see if it helps.
So basically it's boot looping and now I have no idea how to fix it
EDIT: - I Wiped, reinstalled stock rom and tried again, SAME PROBLEM.

If you can flash and access custom recovery, adb push or adb sideload a custom rom..
thanks, I'm making progress, I unlocked the bootloader again and am reflashing the stock firmware...
I flashed stock firmware and stock recovery and downloaded and installed the OTA update and it's doing the same thing!! why?
Just bootlooping

Maybe something is wrong with the phone??
Your best start will be to flash a custom recovery and then flash a custom rom. What is the output of your fastboot getvar all ? (remove IMEI)

He is having exactly the same problem as someone I was trying to help out who is having exactly the same issue and may join in this thread.
The guru reset puts them on 4.2.2 which works fine then they get a small OTA which installs fine, then a big update to 4.3 which installs, but upon restart for some reason gives a boot loop, doesn't get past the HTC quietly brilliant logo, im at a loss.

Sorry I don't understand.
Also couldn't I circumvent this hassle just by installing this ROM?

Yes... You have 1.57 HBOOT.. you should NOT be using 2.x.771.x files. It does NOT gel well.
You have to stick with custom roms, just use adb push or adb sideload..

Well you could try flashing twrp 2.6.3.3 and then flash that ROM your interested in, but it could make things worse, you have a very strange problem, I would love to know why custom rom's work and the guru-reset file, but the OTA's pretty much kill your phone.

Okay, well I don't know a lot about all this stuff, for example I don't know what HBOOT is, S-OFF/ON etc, I just look for ROMs I'm interested in, optimizing my phone, I just read guides and 99% of the time I don't have a problem.
Do you think my problem would go away if I had HBOOT 1.55? Is it even possible to downgrade?
I'll just flash the ROM I mentioned...but doesn't that mean I won't be able to get OTA updates? (because of the nonstock recovery)
IDFK
Don't know why your HBOOT is 1:57 while your device is not OTA to Sense 6.0. Certainly you can't downgrage HBOOT to 1:55 without S-OFF. You should flash TWRP 2.6.3.3, then adb sileload a custom rom to install
I just wiped and put android revolution hd 71.1 on there and it seems fine now, the other stock rom I mentioned earlier I flashed and I kept getting errors "unfortunately updater has stopped working" every 3 minutes.
I had a go at S-OFF with rumrunner but it didn't work on two ROMs, someone said to try it on linux as it's more reliable, any suggestions for how I can easily S-OFF? thanks :good:
Hi everyone,
I've spent the last 6 hours attempting various fixes from forums and I just can't &^%$ing get this.
Here's what I did.
(1) Phone got stuck in a bootloop.
(2) I did a backup in TWRP version 2.6.
(3) Factory reset.
(4) Everything worked again, no bootloop.
(5) Tried to recover from the backup in TWRP, backup failed.
(6) Phone now stuck on the HTC One screen.. won't load a thing.
I really just want things back to normal, as in stock ROM.
Some info about the phone:
S-ON
TWRP ver 2.6
rooted
can access recovery
don't need anything on the phone
I'm looking for a solution to get this phone going again.. any solution. I'd prefer to be on stock ROM. I'd love some help on this. I'm here.
post your fastboot getvar all please

well if you don't need anything on the phone and you previously did a factory reset and the phone stopped boot-looping, why did you restored that faulty backup? just do a factory reset and you'll be good

The factory reset isn't working. It still hangs. I did the initial backup through TWRP. Will Titanium backup be compatible with that backup?
Now the phone is currently locked, no OS.Should I flash another ROM?

You could do with seeing if you can see this number anywhere in the bootloader 4.19.631.9 usually under os- however, radio's match

The OS is set to 1.000.000. I used some **** utility that reset it. I started clicking things... lol
One thing I'm wondering is since this phone is S-ON, will I be able to even flash a ROM? Could that be the reason that the TWRP restore function isn't working? As far as I know... SON would prevent system files from being written.. correct me if I'm wrong
..downloading that file as I write this

looks like your RUU, like I said, its a Rogers RUU and contains the same radio, your version-main just threw me off a bit, leave your bootloader locked / relocked and plug into your computer in bootloader mode, then run the RUU on your computer, follow the instructions, make sure your battery is 50% or more before running.
regarding your other question, you can flash custom roms whilst s-on, you just have to make sure your bootloader is unlocked, s-on is not there to protect system files, its there to protect you from messing with the HBOOT and radio's etc which will brick the phone if done wrong, you cant brick by flashing rom's.

Thanks a lot for that link. I found an RUU file about 7 hours ago, but it was in .zip format, not .exe like the link you provided me. This made it damn easy. I relocked the bootloader, installed, now it's all great. Thanks a lot. Can I thumbs up you, or do anything in return?

I'm guessing a side-load? I really like the install wizard, the RUU method is pretty ingenious. One quick question for you: It's asking me for a system update, OTA, that's not installing after I download it. I unlocked the bootloader through HTC dev using the binary they e-mail you. Would I have to unroot? Any tips on what I could do?
[edit: for some reason, OTA worked] thanks a lot for your help and especially for that magical link. cheers

No, you have to put your phone in fastbootRUU mode and then flash the zip from your computer using fastboot commands.
Glad the OTA worked in the end, but in future when installing OTA's just make sure your bootloader is locked / relocked first.

Hi everyone
I want to do a "Official" Update for my HTC One (M7) that i rooted a while ago...
I allready read this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748547 And i found that the first and most important think is to have a Stock recovery
Unfortenantly i Have a custom recovery (TWRP) and the bootloader is "Unlocked"
What's the most secure and efficient way to be able to update my phone Offcially ?
Thnk's for help
Flash a stock recovery... You'll probably find one in the thread you got your custom one from.
Then just relock bootloader with the command
fastboot oem lock
You can now update with no issues.

if you have unlocked your bootloader and rooted the phone, you'll probably have issue installing the update even if you restore the stock recovery, Like I said in the post you have linked, when you unlock bootloader, /data/preload get wiped. You need this folder and its content back in place to install ota updates. Also, if rooting or anything else you did, modified some /system files, the ota will not install. However, flash you stock recovery back and try the ota, if the ota fails with an image of a red triangle and an exclamation mark inside, then you'll need to restore some files (either /system files or /data/preload files) You have to flash the stock recovery version that match your current version. If you can post the output of fastboot getvar all (minus imei and serialno) we could help you find the recovery you need.
and btw, no need to relock bootloader like said above. Better to leave it unlocked so you'll not have to unlock it again and wipe /data/preload again

relocking bootloader was not required, better to re-unlock it now, or you'll have the same problem with the next ota.
try to reapply the update. when the phone boot in stock recovery and start to flash the ota, press and hold vol+ then power and release both. You'll see some command lines and you'll be able to know which file is causing the ota to abort.
look for something like: unexpected content or no such file or directory)

you can't manually install an OTA if you are S-ON, you need to "download and install" on the phone directly.

hmm, in that case I don't have any ideas.
some users say they had to relock bootloader, though i don't think that's necessary, as the US Dev Edition comes bootloader unlocked by default, and still receives OTAs just fine.
I guess you could try that.

The easy way is to use a RUU to get you phone back to Stock
then download and flash the update.
the more complicated way is to restore stock recovery and the missing files from unlocking the bootloader and then download the update.
Depending on your phones CID / MID some are able to just flash a Guru Reset and choose to install the stock recovery and say no to root and then take the OTA update.
As you already have TWRP why not just install the Stock unrooted 6.xx.xxx.x Rom ? >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-4-4-3-sense-6-6-09-401-5-100-stock-t2854300

okay, that will not work, a GPE recovery, you need one for your phone. the easiest would be to extract it from the OTA

Hello everyone. It is my first time on this forum, so please be patient.
On Saturday I received my new HTC One 802d dual sim. Following in the steps of this and other forums I could root it and unlock the bootloader.
Then I wanted to get S-Off for putting on a new ROM but while the Moonshine was running, in one of the many resets, the phone can't start the OS (obviously cmd window showed an error).
From there on I tried a myriad of things but with no success. I could not find the original RUU to flash it either.

You might want to remove your meid from your first post.
Assuming you have a custom recovery installed, you might try to install Maximus HD for dual sim. I found these instructions in his other thread for the single sim rom. Why don't you think you have a rom installed? Are you stuck in bootloader? You can follow these instructions by alray but you must use a custom recovery for your variant and the Maximus HD rom for your variant.
If you get the rom installed and working, I would try rumrunner S-OFF, since you have a lower hboot. Since you have such a unique phone, I would make nandroid backups to I could recover from issues easier. I hope it helps.

The phone has to be unlocked? Yes, the phone has to be unlocked!
What would be the details to consider the rom to choose? The rom must be for your variant, if you flash a rom that is not designed for your variant you can brick your phone. There are not a lot of choices for your variant!
Thanks!!!!

hello again.
Yesterday I could finally install the maximushd 1.0 as the 3.0 but in both cases when phone restarted, it made a boot loop again. Might be corrupt the hboot? There is way to fix it? another idea? Thank you

This is a long shot but first I would try to flash the stock firmware 4.22.707.3. You will need to lock your bootloader first. This firmware will wipe your personnal data from the phone.
First, download the firmware file and rename it firmware.zip and place in your adb/fastboot folder.
Second, relock you phone using this command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Third, use the following procedure to flash the stock firmware to your phone:
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After that, type:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU [/I][/B]
NOTE: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
NOTE: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Finally:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
Repeat the same command: IMPORTANT
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
NOTE: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Last Step:
Code:
fastboot reboot

Thanks is enough for helping you out.
Wifi might be a software issue, with the new firmware you got the latest radio for your phone. If you still have the stock rom installed you could try the OTA update? If the rom is stock and the recovery is stock you could rename (to shorten it) and move the OTA to your sdcard. When it is on your sdcard, follow these steps for installing the OTA manually. It may or may not run, but if it fails it will tell you why it failed and maybe we can fix it.

No, there is no stock rom for your phone! So, you can not go back to stock to get the OTA. Make a nandroid backup while in recovery and save it to your computer should something go amiss in the future. Glad to see you are back up and running.
Go to your first post and edit the title with "[Solved]".

What specifically is wrong with wifi?
Are you getting data?
Does SMS/MMS work?
No issues with calls?
Have you tried rebooting the phone?

Yes, I have restarted the phone twice but no Wifi on when I touch the button. Nor have 3G / H + data.
Calls and SMS work fine.
Should I reinstall ROM?

Yes, re-install the ROM and while in recovery wipe cache/dalvik. And check your APN settings against the APN settings for your carrier.

Hi friend, i'm here again.
I had to reflash my phone with help from llabtoofer.com
We were able to fix the Wifi but the phone does not work on 3G network... only on EDGE.
Could be a problem with the Firmware or with the Radio?
I just called the telephone's company and they said that APN configuration was ok. If you want, I can send you a copy.
I'm in Argentina, Latin America.... perhaps the ROM installed is from Europe or perhaps is not compatible with my M7C_DWG.
Can you help me one more time?
Thanks.... I will waiting.

An earlier post stated that you had MaximusHD 3.0 installed. According to the website it doesn't support your phone! However, your software information has just the stock rom not MaximusHD 3.0. I don't thing there is an RUU for your phone so if you can find someone with a nandroid backup that you could use it would help. If you could get the stock firmware and flash it. Sorry, I'm not much help.
