Hello guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S. I tried to flash Cyanogenmod 9.1.0 with CWM. It flashes and then I restarted the phone and everythings seems fine. But after the Cyanogenmod 9 bootanimation I am not at the startscreen. There is always a screen that says :
"Encryption unsuccessful
Encryption was interrupted and can´t complete. As a result, the data on your phone is no longer accessible.
To resume using your phone, you must perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you´ll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account.
|Reset Phone|"
But when I tap the button "Reset Phone" it reboots to CWM Recovery and there comes an error :
"CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.2
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /datadata...
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe failed."
I wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache partition and I wiped the dalvik cache manually, and restart the phone. The same error "Encryption unsuccessful"
I reflashed it, I flashed the firmware with Odin3 v1.85 and flash CM9 again...always the same error.
I tried to flash other ROMs, like Resurrection Remix, CM10, CM10.2, CM11 nightly and many other ROMs but I get always the (Status 0) error. I flash always over CWM with my externel SD-card because CWM can´t find my internal memory. Anyone knows these problems ? Or knows a solution for my problems ["Encryption unsuccessful", can´t flash another ROM (Status 0) or maybe the untraceable internal memory] ?
Thanks a lot

Strange. Try to flash kasper_h's kernel (2014 version) for ICS roms as it contains TWRP recovery and there you can try to format /data wth it. In many cases, TWRP was more reliable than CWM for formatting. Hope this will help.
BTW his new ICS Mackay ROM 2014 (that is CM9 based) is also a lot better than CM9, maybe you can try to install it? The kernel I've mentioned is its stock kernel....

Thanks for your proposal !
It was a great idea, but I think something is not normal with my SGS... I tried to install the "Mackay ROM" with the kernel but then I get this error :
"Installing ´/sdcard/cm-Mackay_ROM_4.9.0.zip´...
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
Welcome to Mackay ROM installation
Checking device ID...
Resetting Mackay Setting status

Formatting system partition
E:Error executing updater binary in zip´/sdcard/cm-Mackay_ROM_4.9.0.zip´
Updating partition details...
E:Unable to mount ´/data´
E:Unable to mount ´/system´
FAILED"
I don´t know what to do. Anyone an idea ?
Thanks

Hello,
I flashed MIUI and it was very buggy for me, all apps were crashing and so on. Then i decided to flash Darky 10.1.
Followed the tutorial without any issues, but after this i got no signal. Snooped around the OS and found out it did not see my sdcard. After booting in recovery mode I saw that it could not mount the efs partition.
If i try to mount it via shell i get:
Code:
# mount /dev/block/stl4 /efs
mount: mounting /dev/block/stl4 on /efs failed: Invalid argument
I unfortunetly have no backup of the efs partition.
Did anyone else experience this problem or has a fix for this?
Push. I have that problem too... I was on Darkys ROM for some months without any flashing problems. Now i wanted to change from Darkys ROM 10.1 (Gingerbread 2.3.4) to Galnet MIUI. I had to downgrade to Froyo and then install the CWM zip in CWM. This was NOT succesful. It always says "Installation aborted (Status 7)". Then i tried to install CyanogenMod 7.1. Upgraded to Gingerbread Stock with CWM 3 and when i first flashed it via ODIN the phone first booted in the standart Android CWM display (dont know the name sry). The phone automatically formated cache etc. but then it showed me 2 times "/efs is not mounted". I was able to boot and to open CWM but ALWAYS when i want to install ANY CWM ROM it shows me the message with Status 7 ...
How can i mount /efs again and make CWM ROM Flashing able again?
Thank you.
Coming from a ICS rom, I wanted to go back to stock.
I got the stock rom, and flashed it from odin.
After the flash the phone rebooted, and I got a lot of error messages.
I flashed the latest Clockwork Recovery, and wanted to clear cache.
Upon selecting this option, I get several errors.
It seems that the device is cleanly formatted.. And with formatted I do mean its is completely clean.
No /system, /data, etc exist anymore.
After flashing a gingerbread stock rom, upon boot I get error messages like:
-- Updating filesystems...
E:failed to mount /dbdata (File exists)
E:discard_filesystem_for_rfs:Can't mount /dbdata
...
-- Whiping data...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
What ever I do, or rom I try to flash, it will not come to live again.
Anyone an idea to get the default file structure back, so I can flash a stock rom again?
Never mind.
I got it working again.
Flashed pit 512 & 2.2 original rom, and all was fine again.
My advice try this combination for best results ....TEAMICSSGS RC4.2+Devil kernel 14.2LED,
Hi All
Need your valuable help as am afraid i might have bricked my phone. I am not savvy but can follow directions. I PROPERLY followed these steps on the ninjaromeo website and selected wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. And then selected "APPLY UPDATE FROM SD CARD" and selected the APPROPRIATE zip file of "update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-tass-KANG-signed-21102011". which was listed in the link. However it was not through the CMW recovery mode which i realised after doing it and it also said something like
E: format_volume: rfs for
at failed on dev/stl13 Formatting /cache...
E: format_volume: rfs for
at failed on dev/stl14
Data wipe complete.
The after doing this i installed the ROM "update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-tass-KANG-signed-21102011" and after reboot it shows the normal Samsung GT-S5570 and then shows the letters "ANDROID" to the right of the screen in the middle. This is all that happens.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

You followed the ROM flash tutorial. But you missed the recovery install tutorial. You installed it via stock recovery. It looks like your phone is alive, so find the tutorial in general section by Bunnybugs007 (sorry if I typed the name wrong, I watched that tutorial almost a year ago), and it will work.
now flash a stock firmware through odin in download mode
then flash flash recovery
after that you can flash rom
Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace s5830 which had a problem with the wifi connection. As described on many forums the solution is to root the phone and then enter a code into the phone. It is needed to reload the wifi driver and is explained here:REMOVED.
Needless to say driver loading was unsuccessful after rooting and entering various code combinations. The phone has always been low on space and having recently found how useful link2sd was as well as the possibility to have a custom rom which increases performance I tried this route.
On this page they describe how this could be done on my phone: REMOVED.
I tried following the steps exactly, except that there was never an option to clear dalvic-cache (no advanced settings) on the phones recovery menu. Also, the phone needs the home+start combination to go into recovery, not volume(up)+home+start (which takes one to the quick download I think).
It seemed to go well except that on reboot it didn’t go out of the Samsung logo screen after about 20 minutes. I read that this is too long and thus took out the battery and restarted. This didn’t help and the loop continues.
I thus tried to restore the factory stock rom using odin but every time I set the phone to download mode (volume(down)+home+start) the yellow download text comes up but windows comes up with usb device not recognised. The usb drive worked well before this when I needed to upload the google apps and custom rom file to sdcard as required before upgrading to custom rom. I even tried kies software (also removed kies from tasks when trying odin again so as to not clash).
I also tried various other custom roms to see if this does the trick but every time I go into recovery mode I get the following screen text:
Android system recovery <3e> blablah….
Reboot system now.
Applying update from sdcard
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Test redbend
…….Green icon……
-- Appling Muti-CSC –
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
When I select “wipe data/factory reset” I get:
-- Wiping data…
Formatting /data…
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/stl13
Formatting /cache…
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/stl14
Data wipe complete.
When I select “wipe cache partition” I get:
-- Wiping cache…
Formatting /cache…
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/stl14
Cache wipe complete.
Rebooting goes into the same logo loop screen.
Now I am stuck with a phone which I suppose could be called a tile (not brick, its too small for that :silly. Any help would be much appreciated. I have been at it for more than a day...
moved to qa help section as suggested

Hey - so far I've used odin to add twrp, and I've gotten to installing the zip - when i try install it, it works through the list, unmounts partitions, then says 'Done'. After that it says 'Updating partition details...' before failing with the message 'Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument'. I've tried wiping the cache/dalvik, but that still does the same thing. any fixes/things I should try? Any help would be appreciated as when i reboot, my phone now says - Verification Failed, and the reset option just takes me to twrp recovery and does nothing
