[Q] How to enable data toggle - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Now that we have root, anyone figured how to enable data toggle?
Is there a way to do it without sqllite app ($2.99)?

I have sqlite app but it does not work it gives code 14 error with i try to open settings.db. From what I see others are saying its because of the stock kernel preventing settings.db from being access by sqlite. I am looking into it i'll let you know if I find out something.

Data Togles
There is a way to do it posted in the Sprint forum.
I can confirm that it does work with the ATT variant.
I tried it and it works.

I tried with SQLite Debugger app. I added MobileData and Data to the value.
The values are updated correctly.
After I reboot, I cannot see Mobile data toggle. I have also tried just adding MobileData. That too did not work

Google around for the app and download it for free and install it. Then follow this link. It worked for my AT&T S5.

SQLite Editor works
Thanks. I got 'SQLite Editor' and it worked.
After reboot, I was able to view MobileData in the toggles.
First time when you click the toggle, it brings up the setting page to enable Mobile data.
After that, it behaved as normal toggle.
I had tried below apps - But did not work.
sqlite Database Editor - This never completed loading Application database. Hence did not work
SQLite Debugger - I was able to modify settings.db. When I run the query again after reboot, I could see the modified value.
But toggle was never visible. After installing SQLite Editor, when I ran the query, MobileData was not there.
So I assume, SQLite Debugger never changed settings.db. I had system partition mounted as rw using root explorer.

Please check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732722
It has step-by-step on how to do with sqllite.
Also make sure you have /system mounted read-write before running the steps.
To bring back your phone back to life, please check other threads. Many people had issue S5 stopping at att boot logo. All those were related to enabling Ultra power saving mode.

You remind me of me. You're making it much harder than it is.
If your're getting code 14 error, then you're probably using an older version of sqlite editor, or one of the other sqlites, if I'm not mistaken. And, you're not going to get too many suggestions on where to get apps free from around here.
Now, to bring your phone back, I recommend either using my guide, or the one in the ultra power save thread. But, you only need to flash the AP file in Odin if you don't want to factory reset your phone right away.

I am using the last sqlite editor 2.1.

Remove rogers apps and apn from V20C

I wrote this up to remove all the Rogers software, boot image and APNs
To use this you first need to flash the Rogers V20C firmware and root it, you don’t need to install Clockwork but I would suggest doing this and also performing a backup before running this.
Procedure
Make sure you have the latest LG drivers
Make sure you have USB Debugging turned on
Extract files to a folder
Run the batch file run.bat
Pick what you want to remove
Select 4 from the batch file to exit as this will reboot your phone which is required
After the phone is rebooted go to you APN list and select the “Reset to default”, it could take a few minutes for the reset to complete.
You will notice that the icon for data would will change from 4g to represent the true data connection. If you are unsure about this try a data speed check before running this patch and after.
The batch file is easy to follow so have a read and see what it is doing, you
might find you only want it to do only certain parts.
Any issues just re-flash or restore you backup.
Link to files: http://www.mediafire.com/?o8beibt207og33r
Please note there is an issue with setting your time if you have the "Use network-provided value", this causes a force close if you try to set the time. If you don't have this set then the force close doesn't occur. Quick update on this, it is the section that pushs the VPN, if you don't run this then you won't get this bug. After looking at the logs they are pointing to the Manifest.xml file but as I've never had an issue like this before it will take some time to repair.
Works. Perfect.
Default is the Rogers apn right. Or did your bat file change that? Just wondering. I have att us and never could get consistent data speeds.

, corret. In the batch file the flexprovider.apk, apns-conf.xml and flex.xml files all are replaced.
If you still have bad speeds after replacing these you could manually alter the flex.xml file to provide the carrier etc. there

Let me know how you get on akwhite23, as I just tried a quick test of taking these files from the stock ATT 2.2 rom, I had to manually add my local APN but it got the H+ and I was able to use data.
Maybe another option if your data is unstable??
Anyone know how to remove or change the rogers shutdown animation

You will need to edit Poweroff.apk,or use the tool in this thread
How about if someone were to pull the poweroff.apk from a diff rom and installing it
Sent from my LG-P925g using xda premium
This is a great tool but it would be nice if you gave us options as to what we wanted to delete from this rom.
Confirmed just copying and replacing the Poweroff.apk from another rom works just set permissions reboot and good to go thanks for the advice

The file you run is a batch file, just use a text editor and "rem" the lines you don't wont. I have tried to break the batch file up into logical chunks.
If really needed I can add Press 1 for this, Press 2 for this etc.
Lets see what I people want.
Also
Yes to the Roggers shutdown image is in the Poweroff.apk, if you just replace it with another rom you might not get any logo when shutting down, if that is the case has a look at the script as if will show you where to place the shutdown images.
Thanks for the reply and yes using the options of yes or no or 1 or 2 would be great this way people in my opinion would have and enjoy more control over there phone. Again great script.

Thanks for this package. Ran as stated and works perfectly. Many, many thanks!
Script has been changed to allow users to pick what they would like to remove
*Remove Rogger preloaded applications
*APN to Generic
*Remove Roggers start up and shutdown logo
Enjoy
Great job thanks.

I have noticed that after using this, alot of apps in the market will no longer download due to incompatibility issues that were not there before. Apps such as Rom Toolbox, Advanced Task Killer and many more. I have reflashed and done this process twice to test and confirm. Removing the Rogers apps with this process seems to have caused a break somewhere.

rebel1699, unsure what is happening as I have just tested the applciations in your post and they work fine for me???? This is the procedure I used on my phone to flash
Using LG flash software Flashed V20C
I then flash the V20C
booted up the rom applyed Dan root application
Applied CWM
Next I went into CWM and wiped data / factory & wipe cache Partition
I then booted up the phone and applied by script.
Up to now I hadn't signed in the market place.
A think the problem could be some bad data in your market place, could you try this for me
Under Manage Applications could you
find Market and Force Stop, Clear Data and Clear Cache
find google Services Framework and Force Stop, Clear Data
If this has work you should get a server error if you try to access the Market Place. Reset your phone and the market should come back.
Let me know how this goes
Markyzz
No it isn't a good idea to copy the phone.apk and contacts
Ok I have one problem after I do the match my time changes and then I go to settings and try and change it and it force closes

Enable tethering

The previous post on enabling tethering(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252149) kind of didn't work on ICS but here is a simpler method that will enable tethering! Both USB and WI-FI!
You should be rooted and make sure you have a root explorer(I RECOMMEND "ROOT EXPLORER")
open root explorer
go to system
mount r/w
look for a file called "build.prop". Back it up somewhere!
long touch and select "open in Text Editor"
locate these lines
ro.build.target_country=US
ro.build.target_operator=ATT
and change them to this
ro.build.target_country=EU
ro.build.target_operator=OPEN
save and quit! This just deactivated the authentication part that AT&T blessed us with!
don't forget to click thanks :good: and rate!
NB. if u brick your phone in the process, am not responsible!
I do this and get FC's when trying to go to Configure Hotspot after rebooting. Permissions and ownership correct on the file after editing and everything. Not sure how you got it working, I've tried everything to get tethering back! about to go back to a custom GB rom just for tethering functionality again
Have u tried clearing cache?? Does USB tethering work for u?

[HOW TO] Note3 Playstore/Samsung Apps Spoof

Alright guys, Iv figured out another nice little mod to view both Samsung Apps & Google Playstore as a Note 3 on your mobile device, in my case my Galaxy S4.
You might be wondering why we would even want to do this ? At this stage Note 3's have access to exclusive APK's for example the app "Atooma" for the gear !
Your mobile device MUST be rooted. Also please keep a backup of your original build.prop.
Also I cant confirm this works on every device, although works perfectly fine on my Galaxy S4 i9505.
So lets dive straight into it.
1. Open/pull "/system/build.prop" from your rooted mobile device using a root file browser or adb.
2. Open file in a text editor.
3. Replace the default lines with the following:
Code:
ro.product.model=SM-N9005
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=hltexx
ro.product.device=hlte
ro.product.board=MSM8974
ro.build.description=hltexx-user 4.3 JSS15J N9005XXUBMJ3 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/hltexx/hlte:4.3/JSS15J/N9005XXUBMJ3:user/release-keys
4. Save changes.
5. Set permissions to your modified build.prop if they do not match with other files in the /system directory.
6. Navigate to "Settings -> Application Manager -> All -> Google Playstore" and "Clear data", "Clear cache" & "Force Stop".
7. Restart device.
You will now have access to Note 3 exclusive apps, I recommend downloading the apps you want and reverting the changes you have made to the build.prop.
What I have done is kept a backup of my original build.prop in the system partition and I just swap them around when I need to by renaming & restarting, remembering to clear data & cache of the Playstore !
Remember to hit thanks !

Unconfirmed, I would say only 4.3.. although you never know, just give it a try.
Worse case scenario if anything goes wrong just reflash your rom and it will revert all your changes.

I use root explorer, which includes a text editor.
I would recommend pulling your build.prop to your PC tho, so you can simply copy & paste.

thanks for the intel i will try it again when i get 4.3http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
If this works with earlier versions (pre-4.3) then this would remedy the issue that I and so many others have been having
with the Gear Manager application where it won't sync with the watch because it detects that you are using an "unsupported device".
I might try this out sometime...

Sprint Nexus 6 Wifi Tethering *root* UPDATED WORKING

Has anyone got "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" to work? I am able to toggle portable wifi tethering set it up and connect but will pull no data .
UPDATE
Got it to work after installing Sqlite editor from GPS.
Instructions: Open Sqlite editor navigate to data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db > click on Global > add string Setting.db addition of tether_dun_required value 0
Then open root explorer and open build.prop add net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to bottom

doesn't the build.prop trick do the job as well?
For sprint device i did both with successful results.
For Sprint, I only added tether_dun_required, rebooted and it worked. This was after I factory reset, however. It didn't work before that for an unknown reason.

Hey all. Are you guys using the Nexus 6 from the GPS or from Sprint? I got mine from Sprint, rooted and added lines to setting.db and build.prop factory reset and still can't even toggle Portable Wifi without getting Tethering or Hotspot Error....
My next task is to flash the factory rom direct from dev.google
I am unable to Wi-FI tether even after doing both tether_dun_required and the net.tether.noprovisioning in the build.prop. Bought straight from GPS, so not sure what I am doing wrong :/
EDIT:
It was a typo by me, the actual string is "net.tethering.noprovisioning"... "tethering" not "tether" after fixing this, all works well. I'd advise anyone struggling to just give spelling another check.

Hey all,
So I had to edit the two files in a specific order. Here's what worked for me on a Sprint Nexus 6.
- Root device
- add the additional line for build.prop
- factory reset
- check to see if you can toggle WiFi tether/hotspot from settings [if so continue]
- add line value to settings.db
- soft reboot
Hope it works.

Just to share what worked for me. It wasn't working for me initially on a Sprint N6 either, but I really didn't want to factory reset. I was able to just recreate the steps you did but replacing the factory reset with a soft reboot and now it's working.
Since I had already made the changes unsuccessfully, I did have to delete then re-add the entries since it does seem to matter the order they were done.
**edit: welp, Nevermind. It worked a few times but now I'm back to seeing the error saying I may not be subscribed.
**edit #2: I had the letter t in "true" capitalized. Changed it to lower case, reboot and it's been working for two days!
For those that don't want to edit files (but don't mind spending a couple bucks)... I can confirm that "WiFi Tether Router" app is working as well.
Settings for the N6, as provided by the dev:
Interface wlan0
Method 2
Channel 1
Encryption wpa2-psk
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
Verify those, reboot, then open and enable (Root required for it to reset the radio).
*Edit: clarity
From what I could gather from the thread and personal trial and error, this is what worked for me.
1. Unlock
2. Root
3. Download root explorer and sqlite editor
4. Open sqlite editor
4.a - under the files tab navigate to "data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/global"
4.b - click the + symbol to add a new entry
4.c - In name section put "tether_dun_required" all lower case exactly as it appears here.
4.d - In value section put "0" thats the number zero.
4.e - click save and exit program.
5 Open root explorer
5.a - Under the root tab browse to "/system"
5.b - long press on file "build.prop" choose "open in text editor" choose "yes" to remount as read-write and continue
5.c - add this as a new line to the bottom of the file "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" all lower case exactly as it appears here. Just 1 uppercase letter here can make it not work.
5.d - save and exit
6 Reboot
7 Native tethering should work now.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I missed anything. Typed this up on my Nexus 9 tethered from my Nexus 6. :laugh:

This is what i did and worked for me and i only had to edit build.prop using the phone. I'm sure that it will work for everyone else. I'm also wondering if there is a way to edit/add the line we need for build.prop without having to root? something like "build.prop net.tethering.noprovisioning=True" in adb shell and it will add the line for us? hope someone can answer this for me please.
1. Enable developer mode (Go to Settings -> About phone, and click on the build number until the developer mode is enabled).
2. Enable USB debugging under Settings -> Developer options
3. Connect the device with a USB cable to a computer with the Android SDK platform tools installed
4. Start an adb shell: adb shell
5. In the adb shell, run this command: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
Edit the Build.Prop
6. Then open root explorer and open build.prop add net.tethering.noprovisioning=True to bottom
Thanks for the info. It works using Cricket sim

I'm on a "legacy" unlimited plan on Verizon and this is the process that worked for me. I am in Houston and have no issues on band 4 or 13. Once you do the Build Prop edit you need to save it or it will not take, reboot and all should be good.
I'm also on the unlimited data and the build prop edit worked like a charm.
Same here. Added a line to the build prop, saved and rebooted. Tethered my ps4 just to check whether it worked just now. Works great

I have found that it depends on the tower that you are connected to. Some places tethering works perfectly, others it looks like you are connected but no data will transmit. The worst part is that I am also on a legacy unlimited plan and my work pays for the mobile hotspot option. When I call vzw support they play dumb and say they can't help since I'm not using an official verizon device... If I pop my sim card in my M8 tethering works everywhere.
I have also tried every build prop and database workaround with no luck.
Backup your data with titanium backup or something, then add the line to the build.prop file, do a factory reset, once your booted up do the sqlite edit on the settings database reboot and all should work fine. The key is the factory reset idk what happens but it's the only way I was able to get the tethering to work. Been tethering all day today when previously I could connect to hotspot but no internet access. Hope this helps.

I have edited my build.prop and can not get the tethering to work. 5.1 rooted and bootloader unlocked.
Edited
Rebooted
Checked the line to be sure it was there
Tested
N6 check for subscription
No luck...

Build.prop edit has always worked for me. The only times it didn't work is if there was a typo in the edit. Most time it was keyboard adding a space after one of the periods or something misspelled. I use Root Explorer and open in text editor.
