[Q] How to correctly install SlimKat 4.4.2 - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
So, I want to install this ROM but the tutorial on the topic is confusing
Could anyone please post the right install procedure?
I'm currently on the Rooted, Deodexed and Zipaligned .205 Stock ROM from @dipesh1502. Locked BL, 3&1 Recovery installed.
Thanks! :silly:

1. Wipe data/dalvik/cache via recovery.
2. Flash the Slimkat ROM and GAPPS via recovery.
Reboot.
** You already have the 4.3 (.205) kernel installed. So, no need to flash the kernel via flashtool.
** The ROM has built in recoveries.. Press vol buttons when red LEDs leading to a vibration.
** Keep a full cwm backup of your current setup, just in case. (BTW, Restoring .205 ROM's data into Slimkat didn't work for me)

Rooting and custom rom after downgrading to LB2

Hello,
I have recently downgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.6(using this Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2.rar), kernel version LB2. Now, I am really struggling to understand what should be done next?
How can I root LB2? Do I have to downgrade it again to the lower version using PC odin? If yes, which is the safest one?
My main aim is to install a custom ROM.
EDIT: Ok, so I can see superuser app in my drawer(so it is rooted). I want to install a CWM recovery option so that I can flash kernel and flash custom roms. Sorry for the confusion.
use the three button option to go to custom recovery that must have come with your present rom
( vol up+power+home -- till you see N7000 logo, wait for recovery to appear)
from the options in this recovery flash whichever rom you want.
read the instructions in opening post of the rom you want first.
wipe data, cache, and in advanced -- dalvik and then flash zip file of the rom you must have placed on your sd card from before.

That is the issue. CWM recovery is not there.
what happens when you use three buttons for recovery ? blank screen ?
then download KL3 rom from Dr Ketans sticky thread and its corresponding rooting tools ( zergrush method) and flash that rom.....
or you could also try KJ1 from Dr Ketans signature, thats also pre-rooted, it will give you a recovery,
flash again indownload mode if you face simillar problems.
KL3 is reliable though.

I was not getting options to take backup, restore. Now I have installed CWM recovery using InitialCFRootFlasher method(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784).
I can see CWM now and also many option when I restart the mode in recovery mode.
Now, next step whether to flash a kernel and then flash a custom ROM? If I flash a kernel first, which one is compatible with 2.3.6 firmware?
u dont need to change kernel now on GB
u want to flash ICS custom rom right ?

This is one thing I have to explore now.
Any good custom rom would be good. Pleas suggest.
i just realised you should have posted in QA forum.
No matter which rom you decide to flash you must read the opening post and last couple of pages to get a fair idea.
ICS kernels and stock ics based kernels like CF root, - you cant wipe on them, factory data reset, flash new zip roms, nandroid restore, so be careful
my fav is Kingdroid v 7.4
but you can also flash the most recent release of Touchwiz official - LRQ and learn to root it and then install mobile odin and flash a safe kernel- its newest headline on this forum, worth it. :good: you can flash it with mods from Jeetu's thread in theme section.....
have fun

CWM recovery with stock kernel? - Help

Hi,
I unlocked the bootloader, flashed CWM into it. I backed up everything through CWM recovery.
However somehow the stock rom/kernel/etc don't work with this set-up. I just have "free xperia" logo until the universe will implode.
Therefore I installed cyanogenmod and it works. But I don't have the Xperia pkgs and since I own a lot of stuff from sony..those apps are usefull.
Question 1: Can I use CWM recovery with the stock sony rom?
Question 2: I just downloaded the ftf (700MB file), how can I restore everything? If I fastboot everything inside the package will it also correct the boot problem?
Question 3: Can I install sony pkgs as a 3rd party zip like google-apps?
Thanks for the help!!
Yes, you can use stock kernel with recovery.
But, since you are unlocked, you can install DoomKernel, its based on stock , it has a recovery and root included, and it is compatible with stock roms. Install it via fastboot, then you can flash a stock ftf excluding the kernel so you don't lose custom kernel.

You mean in CWM menus? and install the .ftf?

CWM can't flash ftf, for that you need Flashtool.
CWM can only flash flasheable zips.
If you want to keep stock rom with a working cwm recovery you have choice using advanced stock kernel or doomkernel both have a recovery working normally. If you don't want to overclock/underclock and tweak stuff choose advanced it is the stock kernel with a recovery with nothing more.
Flash ftf and then fastboot the kernel you choose, or vice versa fastboot and then flash ftf and exclude kernel in flashtool.

Hello, I have seen, it is the first time you are installing a rom. So please be careful!
You must read exactly the Instruktions from the OP.
Hello,
2. Reboot to recovery(only TWRP/CWM Touch/PhilZ is supported)
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923
CWR you have used does not work for flashing the rom
Btw, when you are flashing a rom for the first time, and you have less experience with roms you should to consider, if you take another rom. For the rom you choosed is still in Beta status!
Take a stable or nightly rom. Anyway you have at least to install CWR from the above Link.
Good luck!

So can i just install the latest nighly ??? (for me instaling is doing the installation from the recovery is the same as flashing?)
Im in stock rom so can't really understand about the kernel, if I install the nightly or these one, have the kernel included?, or do i have to install the kernel? (and how??? these step is done with flashtool right?)

Yes hou have had the wrong CWM. Herewith you can install (Flash=same) every rom you want (build for LOCKED BOOTLOADER)! Forget it with the kernel. On locked bootloader you cannot install any other kernel. The kernel you need for a rom is included in the rom!
And again: When you flash a new rom - read the instructions from the OP :fingers-crossed:
Cheers.

Bootloop on custom ROMs; stock ROM OK

Hi all!
I flashed my recovery to TWRP and ever since then, I always get stuck in bootloop no matter what custom ROM I try. Flashing back to stock rom via ODIN works.
It's been a while since I've tinkered with custom ROMs so I may be missing something. Any ideas on where to start?

Hi,
Which phone ? i9305 or i9300 ?
Which version of TWRP do you use ?
You should try latest version of TWRP (2.8.7.3).
Or try Philz touch Recovery 6.48.4 or 6.59.
1.Repeat ODIN step to stock rom
2.Root the phone by kingroot (as it's doesn't required pc)
3.After rooting, Download Cwm rom manager
4.Install Cwm by selecting your phone model and etc
5.flash it directly from the apps
6.now you can flash any rom ( please backup your system for your safety)

Recovery

EDIT: SOLVED!!!
Hi guys! I have a question. I have twrp that I installed with the help of advanced stock kernel. But it doesn't look like a permanent recovery. If I install a custom ROM without a recovery, I will lose my recovery. Can you help me install a permanent recovery on my phone. ?
I have tried flashing using flashtool and it only boots into twrp and not android.....
Thanks !

The reason you lose recovery when installing a new ROM is because TWRP is built in Advanced Stock Kernel, and when you flash for example SLiMM ROM it reflashes its kernel.
That means that every time you install a new ROM you will need to reflash the kernel.

Don't worry, Im going to close the thread now . The problem was that i cannot flash the kernel on roms like PA or CM without getting a bootloop, but i managed to find out how to flash a recovery to the recovery partition and then enter it using a key combo, and it works quite well, perfect for my needs!
Thanks anyway!:good:
