hi guys,
I am a longterm flasher with older htcs, but new to htc one. I want to update and full wipe my Insertcoin Rom, i don't want to lose all of my apps and data, therefore i have made an titanmium backup.
Now I have read that htc had changed some things about the way directiories are handled when full wiping, maybe resulting in loosing everything on the phone.
my question:
Do i lose my backup from titanium in /sdcard/ when I do a full wipe?

If you have already unlocked bootloader, and what you are referring to as Full wipe is wiping data/cache and system via recovery (cwm/twrp) then you will not lose data on /data/data where TiBu backup files are located.

small correction if I may, sdcard/internal storage redirects to /data/media/ (on android 4.1.2) or /data/media/0/ (on android 4.2.2+)

i have a question about wiping before installing a new rom. if i take my g1 the way it is currently with all my settings and back it up with switchrom through the console then perform a wipe and install a new rom. will my settings be preserved when i restore the previous backup or will all the settings be wiped regardless?? TY -joe

If you make a backup and it is saved to your sdcard, you can do anything to your rom and your old settings will still be there (when you restore).
does this also apply to: wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe sd ext partition, wipe battery stat,s and wipe rotate settings as well? ty
i just went ahead and tried it. switchrom will restore regardless of anything you wipe.

You can always look at your backup itself to see what it contains.

I am using MIUI 5.31 at the moment.
However it was known to be there'll be some update today after.
Is there any way to back-up and restore on the new version of ROM?
I have backuped all the systems and applications using the back-up menu.
Do I simply get new 5.32 and restore using the backup i created just now?
And to install a new version, from my old version 5.31, do I have to do
format /system
format /cache
format /data
and then install from SD card?
(or do I have to go back to Froyo? hopefully not )
And final question! Everytime I update the ROM, do i have to re-calibrate the battery? (Make battery full and wipe-out the battery status)

for updating existing rom.. do not require back-up and stuff..
u just /format system and cache and install the new Rom using CWM
it does not wipe out anything everything stays same except the rom version

what does format /datadata do exactly? that in comparison with format /data

If you want to do a completely clean install, format cache, system, data and datadata. If you want to keep your apps etc, format system and cache. Hope that clears things up

^^ yeah thats the best way, u dont need to format /data everytime, only when you feel like a clean install.
as for battery calibration, this is not needed for upgrades. usually a battery calibration is required when a full firmware is flashed with ODIN.
And MIUI backup will allow you to restore backups on older / newer versions of MIUI, but as mentioned above, you dont need to backup unless you are going to format /data and /datadata - where apps are stored

yeah, just format cache and dalvik cache if want to maintain your apps!

I flashed my initial custom ROM when I first bought my HTC One. I'm on the 4.4.2 Android Rev. GPe ROM. I want to try a different ROM now that perhaps might be a better fit for me.
However, I'm already all, "set up" with my phone now with pictures, music, apps etc. I don't want to lose all this if I do a factory reset. What should I make sure to backup before wiping and flashing to make sure I don't lose any of my personal media/data?
I have already made a TWRP Backup, a Titanium backup of all user apps, and copied the TWP/Titanium Back folders as well as the DCIM and Music Folders to my local hard drive. Is there anything else I am missing should I want to switch back?

You wont lose any pics/music/videos if u wipe. Your apps will go. But Titanium is there for that. Just make sure THAT YOU DON'T WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE

To confirm that I don't accidentally wipe my internal storage like an idiot, when I select "Wipe" in TWRP, I choose "Factory Reset", (both caches obviously), and "Wipe Data"?

1- You should do a nandroid backup.
2- Yes, wipe: Cache, Dalvik, Data (excluding /data/media aka internal storage) for a clean flash;
for a dirty-flash, you only wipe, cache and dalvik (though most installer scripts take care of that anyways).

I have question about upgrading ViperROM to 6.2.1
I'm currently using ViperROM 2.7.0 with sense 5.0
Android 4.2.2
I use Titinium Pro to backup all my apps and....
my question is....how to upgrade from 2.7 to 6.2.1 the easiest way?
without any data lost?
do i have to use the data backup from ROM or i can just use the titaniumPRO for full backup?

I always copy and paste the contents of the sdcard to a folder for safe keeping on my laptop or usb drive. I wipe, data, cache, dalvik cache, system and user partitions. Reboot recovery, use adb sideload to send the rom.zip over and flash. Setup the phone and copy and paste everything back. The whole process takes min. 25-30 minutes. Works for me /shrugs, just my 2 pennies.
I would follow @DeathAngel66669 advice it is very solid. I also use Titanium Pro to quickly add back my USER APPS only with data. Never restore system apps.

I'm just concerning about my User App data, (whatsapp image, convo history)
so i can just do titanium pro and wipe the phone? cool!
Whatsapp etc backs up it's own data to a folder in your internal storage, when you reinstall it and set it up it will say backup found would you like to restore. Just make sure you don't wipe internal storage.
You could also try and dirty flash as you are on viper one already, just go into advanced wipe and wipe your caches only, do not factory reset and when installing the Rom also select don't wipe data partition.
But again as the others have said, make sure it's backed up first, if a dirty flash doesn't work, you'll be left with no choice but to reflash and wipe along the way.
I'm planning to backup my current ROM using TWRP before switching over to another one. If I selected everything on the TWRP backup screen, how much data will this include? Will I be able to restore it and have everything run exactly the same as it is now? App data? Files? System settings?

It does NOT backup everything. TWRP only backups the operating system. If you flash the wrong file or change the wrong setting, which can / will cause bricks, then TWRP is used to restore the OS to the original state you backed up. Internal storage files are not backed up, nor app data.

Ah I see, so I have to backup files manually, but the app data too? I was under the impression that the so-called NANDroid backups at least includes app data

Yes, it will backup app data. Btw, you really need to select the boot, system, and data partitions. For the other partitions, you can keep separate backups (in case of a bad restore). On that note, your first restore might appear broken; try restarting the phone; it should boot fine the next time around.
