Xperia Z - No sound after OTA? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I updated a friends Sony Xperia Z (C6603) to KitKat via OTA and after the update the sound is no longer working.
Calls can still be made, however no sound is coming out in apps such as YouTube, Spotify and the stock Music player.
Phone has been restarted, volume has been checked, both didn't help.
Version: 10.5.A.0.230
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Try reflashing the firmware

I have the same issue.
I was using custom roms for a long time, but then I decided to go stock after use eXistenZ 7.0 for a few weeks.
But after update my XZ to stock .230, my media sound doesn't work. However, system sound works, like ringtone and alarm.
In phone calls I can listen the caller voice but my voice can't be heard on the other phone.
TOO STRANGE.
A workaround for this issue is downgrade to 4.2.2. Any update above this make this issue reappear.

Try with clean install via Flashtool, it will probably fix that issue. :good:

I tried already.
First I tried to reflash the .230 (4.4), then I did a downgrade to .101 (4.3) and both didn't work.
And then I finally tried the .244 (4.2) and this one solved the problem.
As I said before, any firmware released after this one breaks the audio.

It sounds like software problem. Did you try with clean install, not update to KK? Are you using custom kernel? Try with this (do not uncheck any option when you flashing via Flashtool):

It is a software problem, thats for sure, since works on previous versions
but IDK how to solve it.
I always do a clean install.

[Q] Problem installing latest 4.3 build (10.4.B.0.569)

Hi, I would like to post a request of solution to a problem faced by a number of Xperia Z series devices users out there. For the latest 4.3 build (10.4.B.0.569) from SONY, the OTA update could not be installed despite being able to be downloaded successfully. The file size is 318MB for my ZL. Once completed the download the phone will reboot itself into its recovery and soon after a few seconds it reboots itself and give an undismissable notification of "could not install". As reconfirmed with other users, root does not seem to be the problem. No official comment was given and close to none from XDA. Could anyone please help with poor users affected by this issue?

I'm not sure, but I think it's the CWM or TWRP, perhaps it's the boot.img ... don't know.... To update to newest FW follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565850

Am using stock recovery...….so don't think it is related to the recovery...
u said u did it ota so umm have u tried via pc companion to update ure phone ?
if youre not rooted may i suggest using pc companion or flashing the ftf via sony ericson flasher (sony rom ) required to update the phone
Beside you can also use EMMA, but think this will reset your phone to factory defaults.
For my phone it installed an older build (0.244) and then I was able to get the latest FW by OTA.

[Q] No Audio on Phone Calls

Trying to gather information about the no audio on phone call issue in order to troubleshoot it.
Symptom: You answer an incoming phone call or make an outgoing phone call and the call connects however there is no audio on the phone regardless if using the phone or Bluetooth device. The other party only hears complete silence. Rebooting temporarily clears the issue, but it can occur again at anytime.
My config is ViperOne 7.0.1 and ElementalX 18.0 (Issue also occurred on 17.x) and I have the latest 6.09.401.5 firmware.
I have seen this issue reported in a few ROM threads and for different kernels, so it seems to happen for other ROM/kernel configurations.
If anyone else is having this issue can you please post your:
Firmware version
Rom and version
Kernel
Settings/reasons for why you think it is occurring?
I love my current setup and it performs awesome with super battery life, but this issue is killing me as I have to use my phone for work and I never know if I will be able to properly make or answer a phone call.
Any idea's for a root cause?
Having this very same issue on my stock rom. 4.4.3 / 6.09.401.108 . I personally think it's an issue with HTC's latest updates as I am pure stock.

That is very good info as I was wondering if pure stock had the issue.
Do you remember when the issue first started? Was it just after the first 6.09.401.1 OTA update or did it happen at all back on 5.xx?
Thanks again for the info.
I do not recall having this problem prior to the previous update. This latest update and the last one, both have had this issue.
My setup is ViperOne 7.0.1 and elementalx 18.0.
Fw version is: 6.09.401.5
I don't remember if I altered the radio separately, anyways here's the version I am using : 4T.29.3218.08_10.33F.1718.01L
Experienced this mute call once while on previous kernel version, 17.2, upon reboot all was well again.
Kernel is and was installed with pretty much default options.
Seeing that this issue is very difficult to reproduce, maybe it's not related to the kernel at all but simply some external app (from rom or otherwise)? Well as to it chances are this to be rom related since we're all using this rom?

I have seen it reported on a few other ROM threads and even stock software, so I am pretty sure it is not related to Viper. Might be an app we all installed that causes it, or some other weird setting we all use.
I also experience occasionaly problems with an audio in phone calls, reset helps though.
My config is:
Unlocked, S-on
ViperOne 7.0.1
6.09.401.5
If you upgraded your firmware directly to 6.09.401.5 from 4.x/5.x, try flashing the 6.06.401.1 firmware first and then update it to 6.09.401.5
That seem to help me with this issue.
Sorry, still kind of a newb when it comes to roms. I've had viperone installed for the past year (currently running 7.0.0) but in the past two weeks, all audio during calls has completely quit working. The calls go through, but I can't hear them and they can't hear me.
So.... how can I fix this? haha

it's not ROM related, some users are experiencing it, others are not (pretty much irrelevant of ROM / firmware combination.... though obviously having the ROM inline with firmware is always better), anyway:

Update to the latest Google play services with this version, released yesterday https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms. Or download apk from here http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google.../google-play-services-6-5-99-1642632-038-apk/ Problem is solved for me. Also clear cache and data for Google Play Services and for Google Play Services Framework (Settings -> Apps -> All -> Google Play Services -> clear cache -> Manage space -> Clear all data).
For me all works now with latest services
To solve the gms problem do this:
Go to play store and search for "disable services"
Install it and Browse to Google play services (in system or after self autoupdate in data)
Only disable the checkinservice .
Reboot and till now all Works
thx goes to n0j0e he found it out .
After disabling checkinservice, did you experience lots of wakelocks from checkinservice?

After you disabling checkinservice, google play service always try to run it, that puts your m7 in awake mode all the time even in screen off. Applying the venom fix & re-enable the checkinservice is the best solution for me.

Phone heating up and restarting

My Xperia SP has a problem: when running benchmark software, when updating multiple apps from the store and sometimes when running stock camera app, the screen turns reddish, slowly dims until it turns off, and the phone restarts, getting very hot in the process. From what I see it's not above 43 degrees, but I think that when it locks up the temperature monitor app also freezes so it doesen't exactly record the actual heat.
When the phone cools off, it's good to go, but until then it restarts all over if I try to use it.
I had this problem using Arch Xperia, CM 11, and a few other ROMS. Now I flashed stock 4.3 CE, using Flashtool, and I have the same problem.
The phone was bought second hand, so no warranty.
Can I do anything about it?
I saw this on my phone in the past but only way this happend to me was that:
1. I was on williamskernel (i dont know how it performes to another people but to me its quite unstable)
2. I was on alpha cm12 and that happened to me under load
btw on cm11 and stock for me ist perfectly stable, phone never crashed like that but when i play heavy games like portal then i have 45-55 degrees celsias .
If you have this problem on stock flashed by flashtool from PC i think that it may be a HW problem.
i had this problem in 4.3 .205 stock and other customs roms based on .205 kernel.
Now i am on .207 kernel with archxperia 1.0.5 and i havent experienced something like this.
Also im using undervolt to 1566 to avoid high temperature during gaming.
I think is your ftf , which one are u using?
I downloaded the ftf from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
Yesterday, when I posted my problem, I had 12.1.A.1.205_CE1 - JB 4.3
In the mean time, I decided to try 4.1.2 JB and flashed 12.0.A.2.254_CE .
This one seems to have worked fine in the last couple of hours. I tried to run as many apps as possible to determine it to restart, but it just warmed up a little and kept going. So it seems it's ok.
Also, I had an unlocked bootloader and before I flashed 4.1.2 I locked it back again. If that has anything to do with it.
The problem is that it askes for a system update and if I do it, it will probably take me all the way to 4.3, and maybe the same problems. That notification is so annoying
That sounds like a hardware problem. Is your phone in a case? Maybe it's restricting the airflow to the device.

Yes, it is in a case. But with 4.1.2. it doesen't seem to have problems anymore so I hope it's a software issue.

Will try this today. It should take me to 207, right? The phone OTA update service gives me an upgrade to 205, which I understand is problem-prone.
205 was alright, I think it was 201 that had problems. Still, it's probably best that you go for the latest firmware, which is 207.

[Q] Phone rooted but stuck on bootloop

Hi, I tried searching for this here (I remember reading something about the bootloop problem) but can't seem to find the thread, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have successfully rooted my Z3c using this guide all the way to the very end, however I noticed that the wifi wasn't working. I figured it was simply because I hadn't flashed the 23.1.A.0.690 firmware yet, but once I did, my phone is stuck in a bootloop; the sony logo appears and the phone resets over and over. I'm still able to go into fastboot but my question is, how can I put a stop to the boot loop? should I flash the newest FW (D5803_23.1.A.1.28_Customized_US.ftf), go back to the one the phone was shipped with (D5803_23.1.A.0.726_Customized_US.ftf), or reflash the root exploit one (D5803_23.0.1.A.5.77_US.ftf)>
UPDATE: I flashed D5803_23.0.1.A.5.77_US.ftf and the phone booted up without a hitch and kept rooted.

Bootloops on Android devices can be caused by multiple factors. I suggest Flashing the .93 Kitkat firmware from there Root and if I am not mistaken there are flashable ( .zip) Pre-Rooted Roms which are Lollipop found in the Android Development Section of this Area.
Just make sure to flash the FW corresponding to your Model Number either D5803/833
If you prefer the harder way you can always use Flashtool to flash the Stock 4.4 FTF it came with and upgrade from there.

Yeah, what I did was reflash the .77 FW without wiping system, and then, from there I flashed this 5.02 image, however now I am encountering a different problem: a persisting notification stating that I need to update google play services, even when I'm using the 7.5.73 version for 036. Has any one else encountered this problem? Is there a solution to this?

How to root my Sony Xperia Z3 compact?

Dear XDA-developers,
Today I spend numerous hours in trying to root my xperia z3 compact.
I currently have MM 6.0.1 D5803 installed on it with 23.5.A.0.575 the netherlands T-Mobile version. I have tried the following: Kingroot, iroot, kingoroot etc but it is all not working. I also used adroid sdk and changed the fastboot driver. I am able to fast boot etc.
Could anybody help me out with rooting this device? Love to hear from you guys.
Kay
It is described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343/page149
Basically you must downgrade to kitkat, run the rooting script and install recovery, and then install a prerooted marshmallow rom.
Similar issue in Switzerland

Thank you for you answer. I've actually just tried with this but I get stuck in the welcome screen and then it simply continues to reboots.
I've installed this: D5803_23.0.A.2.93_Generic GLOBAL.ftf

All my previous phone was rooted and now I feel like in prison without a rooted xperia! ahahah

Then you are doing something wrong with flashtool, I used that build yesterday, then used geifroot and dual recovery, before flashing Slim 2.
you need to tick all of the wipe boxes, and none of the exlcude, or it won't work. You can't keep your data flashing to a different firmware.

I think it would be better to emphasize this in the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
I'm downloading the rom, what would you suggest me if I do really care about the battery life? Maybe the lollipop instead of Marsh-mellow because of the presence of Stamina mode in lollipop?
I guess I will just try to find the best...

There are only two good builds for the Z3c at the moment.
The Slim 5 which is lollipop
or the Slim 2 MM. I was sceptical about MM battery life and held back 5.1 for a long time, but now the latest roms is out, the doze function works as well or better than stamina mode. I am getting 4 days between charges now, something I could never do before

Thank you for your answer. Really useful! I've finally managed to room and install that I wanted!
If you have such permission, I would suggest to edit the guide in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
by adding the following:
7. Just select the name of the fw you downloaded and click on "Flash". Note: select both wipes in case you are coming from different android version.
43. Open Flashtool and select the non-pre-rooted fw (this is 23.1.A.0.690), but DESELECT system: in "EXCLUDE" make sure you check the checkbox next to "SYSTEM", flash it.
I will put this comment on the relative guide too!
I don't want to abuse of you kindness but I am currently searching for some CPU+GPU clock and voltage changer. Is there any efficient application that you can suggest me?
